Big Dissappointment
Fine audio component
Very good product for the moneySound quality is very good on this deck. I have cassette tapes that hiss or drag in lesser quality decks, but will play beautifully in this. I am impressed with the quality of cassettes recorded with this deck as well. I record cd's onto cassette for use in the car, so this gets a real workout. All the tapes recorded sound as good as the ones that come pre-recorded.
I am also pleased with the controls on this. Everything is easy to read and operate. No confusing buttons or knobs. Even the back of the deck where you hook up the wires is self explanatory. They are marked so that you never have to open the owners manual.
In overview, this is the best cassette deck I've owned yet. I've owned Teac, Pioneer and Sony, and from now on I will stick with JVC products. I can't say enough about this deck. It is reliable, good sounding, inexpensive, and easy to operate. This is the best value out there.

- Video cable for highest-quality connection to DVD, HDTV, and other devices
- Uses 3 cables to send separate color and luminance signals for sharper picture
- Silver-plated conductors offer maximum signal transfer
- Easy-to-identify color-coded bands make hookup simple
- 24k gold contacts resist corrosion and improve data transfer; measures 4 feet long
Buy one from zShops for: $66.95

Why the high price?I can't really recommend these over a cheaper set unless you have a problem with corrosion in your home (the only reason to have gold plating is to reduce corrosion, it does not provide enough difference in conductivity to matter) or you are going to be running your cables next to a source of a lot of interference, like a computer with a glass window on the side.
Save your money for something else that matters, or do like I did, take it back get a refund, and a new DVD player for the same price!

Moshiach Now!
Best sound quality/durability of any portable I've ownedDrawbacks? There are a few. The battery life is terrible and the lack of AM/FM is something that I wish would be remedied. The absolute worst drawback is the difficulty in placing and extracting the AA batteries. Terrible, especially considering the thought put into the rest of the design.
On the positive side sound quality is excellent for a portable cd player, the anti-skip works well and it gives the user several options such as repeat and shuffle. The Nike's build quality is also of a much higher standard then even most "sports walkman" players.
I highly recommend the Nike ATC300.

HeadacheIf you want to stream mp3's from your PC, this product only works with an old version of MusicMatch Jukebox v7.2 MusicMatch in general is very unstable and I for one cannot get it work at all in Windows XP. It does work though when I log in as Administrator.
If you have a lot of time on your hands to try and get this stereo working properly go ahead and give it a try.
System that talks the talk and walks the walk...Spencer P...
Amazing stereo will change the way you listen to music
- Two 6.50 Dynamic Balance woofer for authentic bass response
- One 1 Trilaminate dome tweeter for definitive clarity among higher frequencies
- A super-wide frequency-response range of 40 Hz to 27,000Hz
- 8 Ohms impedance
- Works with amplifiers and receivers that deliver 10 to 250 watts per channel

Muffled
POLK, best speakers on the market for the moneyBut getting back to the Polk CSi40 - it's a hard driving dual 6.50" woofer plus a 1" liquid cooled silk dome tweeter system that will walk the dog. Get one, you'll like it.
You can buy professional studio speakers with better specs but the costs are in the thousands. I've owned, JBL (James B Lancing), Marantz, Boston Acoustics, Bose, etc, but I always come back to Polk. Trust me, I know what I'm talkin' about.
Fred
Maybe the previous crtic should break in his speaker first!!Sorry about the lesson but i had opinions like the previous critic before an industry vetran showed me the ropes. Now my polks SING. Polk has literally destroyed my other "reference" series speakers, just give them some time.
best,

Sony Quality

- Mega Bass sound system
- New folding, over-the-head headphones
List price: $54.95 (that's NaN% off!)

New walkman is missing a few important featuresThe sound quality is much better than my old one. Tape playback is excellent, almost CD quality. And the anti-rolling mechanism is a godsend - thank you Sony! The mega-bass doesn't seem to add much oomph to the sound though.
There are two features that should've been included with this model - recording and a switch so you could automatically change sides. Because these two features weren't implemented, I gave it 3 stars instead of 4.
Great headset for the price.
good price, good performance
- Water-resistant sports series design
- AM/FM stereo tuner
- Stereo cassette playback
- Metal buckle for secure closure
- Metal tape capability
List price: $69.95 (that's NaN% off!)

good enough for sportsThe sound you get is very good, but as with all portable cassette players you are at the mercy of tape alignment problems. Generally, the more expensive the player the more care is taken to keep the cassette and playback head in proper position. At $50, you can expect some problems in this area and you will find them in the WM-FS111. I've found that accidentally wiggling the PLAY button back and forth will increase and decrease the amount of treble in playback. The change is substantial, enough to make a brand new cassette sound awful. Clearly something is moving around inside the unit and it is most likely the playback head.
The standard mega-bass feature is nice when running outdoors, since bass is the first thing to go in that environment. The unit has a volume limiting feature that seems poorly considered. Basically with the limiter engaged, you have to crank the volume up to maximum to achieve a comfortable listening level. If you then turn off the sound limiting feature, the unit will assail your ears with a full volume roar of sound which may damage your hearing. You're better off being careful and conscious of volume levels yourself and not relying on this feature.
Fun but flimsy
The best ever!
Apparently the drive belts have started slipping on both wells. Usually starts a couple of minutes into a tape and usually clears up right at the end. In between is barely recognizeable as music. Cleaned the heads, retensioned the tapes on other decks - no go. All the tapes that won't play correctly on the JVC play just fine on two other older, cheaper decks.
