The best CD-Player around. This is the one.
One of the most amazing CD players today!People do tell the truth. The headphones hurt my head and ears after 5 minutes of putting them on, and apparently, my VMSS didn't even work. Besides that, the sound quality produced is exceptional.
The durability is quite amazing. Being metal, it can take a large amount of beating and dropping, yet still keep playing, definitely living up to Panasonic's name. The latches [aren't very good] quality, but for the time being, they do work. The Anti-Shock is AMAZING! With my old Panasonic, I could shake it up and down and it would not skip, but extremely vigorous dropping and beating would cause a skip. With the Anti-Shock on, nothing will stop it from continuous play. I could swear you could throw it against a wall and it would probably continue to play smoothly (even though it might not last much longer!).
The buttons are sometimes hard to press in order to be able to actually do what you want it to do, but besides that, the overall playing operations and "button pushing" is exceptional. Only problem is the apparent "EQ" is actually only S-XBS (Super Bass) and the VMSS operation. This is a minus. Other than that, the programming, automatic turn-off and many other playing features are excellent. The volume button and hold buttons on the under side may be very large and awkward, but ad to its durability and overall performance and quality. The rubber covers that fit in the extra holes when not in use are excellent features to keep water and dust out and also increase the durability and quality. They make break off after long use, but are excellent and will stay on for a long time.
I think Panasonic has done the best job it could ever do in creating the most durable and highest quality CD player on the market today. Its design appeals to everyone in shiny silver and awesome blue colors. Its sound quality lives up to Panasonic's audio devices name. The playing operation "works" and "works well". Overall, I think this is one of the best portable CD players on the market today and is probably the most durable player to date. It DEFINITELY lives up to Panasonic's name.

Awesome player, few drawbacksOne day with this player, it suddenly stopped working, I found out that the batteries were screwed so I recharged and discharged them and a week later it started working again, weird... Just a little story I think is important to share...
As for sound quality, it sounds decent, the headphone amplifier isn't all too great, only a 5mW 16ohm output so an amplifier is needed to run high quality/high impedance headphones (high quality means 100$+, not these pathetic 10-30$ headphones you usually see that sounds like my clock alarm). However, you can't expect such a high battery life with a good headphone output, which leads me to another point, this unit has an awesome run time, I almost never need to worry about the batteries, and when they run out, a 2 or so hour recharge will let them run for a while.
A Great Buy!First of all, it looks great- very sleek, light and thin. The controls are well laid out. The sound is very good- especially with the Mega Bass. The headphones are a bit cheap, but those can easily be replaced. The backlit remote is convenient for controlling your discman while running. As for skipping- IT WON'T SKIP. I've shaken it, dropped it on the floor, jogged with it, and it has never skipped. I replaced the rechargeable batteries for a two-week trip with 2 normal AA batteries, and after playing 15+ full CDs on it, the battery was still full. With the rechargeable batteries it will last a few days, then can be charged back up to full within 2 hours, which saves a lot of money on batteries. The CD to MD text transfer is useful for me when I record on to my minidisc player, but most people don't need that feature. The included rubber carry case w/handle is great for use while jogging.
As for the other popular discmans out there-- the DEJ915 has an impractical design, the DEJ611 is OK but does not match up to the DEJ815 in quality.
I am very satisfied with this discman. I recommend spending the extra money on this one instead of buying a cheap one then having to replace it later when it breaks. It looks great, it sounds great, has long battery life and plenty of extras. Overall, it's a solid product and well worth the price.

Excellent, crisp clean soundAdditionally, out of all the systems I looked at, the Sonys have the best overall appearance. The rest are way too gaudy. This unit is simple yet attractive.
Sony MHC-GX45 - A great deal for $200.
Great price for a great system
kick a$$
- 45-second Electronic Skip Protection (ESP)
- 3-stage Dynamic Bass Boost
- 45-hour playing time on rechargeable NiMH batteries (40 hours on AA batteries)
- Includes car adapter kit, headphones and extension cord with remote control
- Backlit LCD display with battery power save mode

Great sound and battery life, but durability needs workWhen I received the player, I was indeed pleased with the sound quality and the playback features. The included headphones had a tinny quality, but I intended to use this through my home stereo quite a bit, and it did well for that. And in any case I had another set of headphones I preferred to use, and it sounded great with those.
The various playback modes (shuffle, repeat, program, scan) leave nothing wanting. The included rechargeable battery lasted at least 18 hours between charges, very impressive. I tried high-capacity AAs once and got probably 40 hours of playback out of them (using the included battery box that doubles the player's battery capacity from 2 AA to 4 AA).
This was the first CD player I've used with anti-skip protection, and that was a pleasant surprise. I never did manage to make a CD skip, in any playback mode. It worked fine through walking, running, cycling, mowing lawns, driving, all of it -- no skips, no pauses of any kind. And it worked with heavily scratched CDs, or CDs that would result in skips on my car stereo CD player or my home player.
The downside? This unit is not very durable. It looks good, feels like it can survive just about anything. But the lid is held in place but two small plastic nubs that, if broken, render the thing useless. Just under one month after I received it, the lid snapped clean off when I was changing CDs.
This is a good unit, but if durability is of any concern at all, think carefully before you choose this player. By all means be extremely careful when you open the device.
5 stars for design and use But 4 stars for durability1. i like to listin to music in the dark and id have to find a light to change stuff on it. The Philips had a backlit lcd that's very bright.
2. My cd player would skip when i put it in my pocket and rode my bike. But the philips Has 45 seconds of esp witch is way more than i needed. Every time i use this thing its never skipped.
3. It did not have a remote control so i would have to reach in my pocket when riding my bike to get it out and change things on it. But with the Philips i just have my handy dandy remote on my pocket that Changes my volume, switches to the next track, stops and plays, and it has a hold button so nothin bumps it and when you put the cd unit on hold the remote can still switch tasks on it.
4. I went through batteries like a dog on a peice of meat. But even with the Philips 45 seconds of esp. the Nikel-Cadium-lithium-Ion batteries hold up for days. And every time i lay my cd player down i just hit stop twice and it charges them up so i got a full tank and you dont even have to take them out. And its got an extra batterie pack so when you go on those long trips it wont run out.
5. Batteries alwase fell out the bottom of it. The philips has inside batterie compartment so that they wont.
6. It got beat up very bad every time i dropped it it made a scratch. And with the philips ALUMINUM lid efvery time i dropped it noting happend to it.
7. It did not play Rewritable cds so when i make mixes i gotta use a new blank CD-r Every time. And the Philips uses cd-rw fluently
8. It Had NO style and did not look good. The philips is a stunning desingn and amazed my freinds.
9. I could barley read the lcd it was so small . But the Philips Has A massive display ON the top so its very easy to read
There was only one downside to this great cd player is that a month after i had it the back left hinge for the door broke off, i was very dissapointed i had the same problom humby27 (see his review on this page) had and this thing became very hard to use and i explained it to amazon to return it and they said thed be glad to return it WITH FREE SHIPPING too. That made it a lil better but i wanted a replacement since i loved this thing so much. and trust my luck there out of stock. I have looked everywhere for this cd player on the internet and can only find it here. I have tried to find an alternative to this cd player and i just cant find it. Besides Sonys top of the line walkman witch is $487 and theres no way im paying that.
Bottom line is that i hope that if you buy this it will stay durable and not break. but this is an awesome cd player and i recccomend it greatly.

Not perfect, but the best I've found
Great Audio Quality and Silent OperationI own several Panasonic CD players, and this is a very refined CD player, with or without its MP3 capabilities. First, it's very quiet in operation, so you won't hear unmusical motor whirring or seeking while you listen intimately to bedtime music :) The audio signal is also relatively noise free, and there is absolutely no hissing noise when the music quiets down. My previous Panasonic SL-CT560 makes a high pitched noise in the headphones whenever the remote backlighting came on, but the with CT700, Panasonic fixed that, too.
Model Family Comparisons
In comparison to the CT700, the CT800 is basically the same unit with metal casing and bundles Ni-MH instead of Ni-Cd reachargeable batteries, offering twice the battery life of CT700. I chose a red CT700 based on the look. Stay away from the budget SL-CT500 and SL-MPxx models, because although they're all Made in Japan like the CT700 (a rarity these days), they apparently use lower quality electronics and have much more noise in the audio.
Comparison with other Brands
A major strengh of Panasonic CD players is their superior mechanical engineering, and you can expect much better compatibility with different CD-R/RW discs and much longer product lifetime than with Sony CD Walkmans. This Panasonic is quality built to last. The only reasons you may choose a Sony might be its second-accurate resume feature, which like cassette Walkmans start at exactly the same point in music from which you left off yesterday, and better sound quality of the top end models. But Sony's all about marketing these days, and sound quality is a mixed bag, as are reliabilty, value (pricing) and design.
worth every centThe only peeves from me are the non-seeking ability and with the remote. It is hard to advance the tracks without turning off the player, operate it and you will see what i mean. The sound quality out of the remote is also not as good as directly out of the drive, but only slightly. Also the remote is not backlit, so it can be frustrating to see where you are at or what you are doing in the car at night. This is only small a small problem though. The remote is very simple to operate and easy to use when only using your sense of touch. All and all, i would take this over any other portable device that i've handled so far. It's light, efficient, and sounds excellent!

I can run and jump and hide and still...Fab compact shape! Great sound for the money. Some extra kooky features I still can't figure out but hey, it looks impressive.
The color is pretty close to black, which for me is dandy, if you want electric prune you'll be sad to be sure.
I highly advise another pair of headphones, those swoop ones, the headphones that come with the player ae fine but if you need to use this for the treadmill etc...become oh so cumbersome.
Great for the money though!
Exelent!
