Sent From The Heavens
When I bought this CD player, I nearly broke down in tears, happy that I FINALLY, got a superb CD player. If you click on my name and see my review history, you'll see that this CD player was the replacement for the CD player I review earlier (note: the one with the near to zero stars). This Player has EVERYTHING you'll want.
Pros-
-Good audio quality: four settings for however you like to hear your music. Try the Live setting. Your ears will explode.
-VIRTUALLY NO SKIPPING: I turning this player to so many angles to see if it'll play consistently, and it played beautifully no matter what angle I put it on. Even in my pocket
-Playing Longevity: the extra battery pack add-on included with this player as well as the rechargeable batteries make playing this player for as long as you feel like. Well, until ya gotta recharge that is.
-Good Button Placement: The buttons aren't all over the place driving you crazy when you have to find one in the dark or while your jogging. The Resume and Random playing settings are located on the side next to the hold button just where you finger would be so you can easily click back and forth to you preferred settings.
-Strong: It may look weak but this player won't break. I've dropped the player many times thinking "Yeah, you finally broke it" but nope, the player holds steady. Uh...I don't recommend you making a habit of dropping it though.

Cons
-NO CD-R/CD-RW playback: Yeah, this was a problem for me since I recently gotten some CD burning utilities. But you have to realize this CD was brought out during the time CD-R/CD-RW playback was only found on high end VCR shaped CD changers and not on portables.
-Headphones: The headphones aren't too good. Too thin and frail for me. That's my personal opinion. I suggest getting headphones that allow you to adjust volume and have a bass boost. A bass boost combined with the player's Live audio setting and you know why this player has so many good reviews.

Please folks, if your tired of clunking around skip filled CD players and just want something steady at a good reasonable cost (I mean look at all it comes with!!) just do yourself a favor and click the buy button. Your ears will thank you.

If your priority is audio quality, this is the one for you
I bought this portable cd player after reading a recommendation by a very trustworthy source, the Headroom headphone people in Bozeman, Montana. They claimed this is the "best-sounding portable" they had heard recently, and considering its low price, I decided to buy one. I was a bit wary, since I had previously bought a different Panasonic model, SL-SW869V, which I found disappointing in terms of sound quality.

This model, however, is a winner. The sound reproduction is terrific, despite the fact that the SL-CT470 has been designed to be battery-conserving. Usually, players that are particularly small, light, and economical in terms of power usage achieve these goals at the expense of amplifier power and quality. Not this time.

Some of the added features are quite good. The EQ setting for bass boost (s-xbs) typically distorts the original sound a bit, but this one is better than most. For listening to bass-heavy music like techno, r&b, or rock, this feature is quite useful. The added two settings for "live" and "train" are a bit puzzling, however. The "live" setting seems simply to overemphasize the treble setting, whereas the "train" setting (designed for listening in noisy settings) seems merely to shift the s-xbs setting a bit--it is NOT a true "noise-reduction system."

There is a "resume" feature which allows you to stop the unit in mid-cd and then return to the track you were listening to previously. Like all Panasonic units, however, this feature takes you back to the start of the track, rather than to the exact point in the track where you left off before. This is one feature for which the Sony cd players are definitely superior.

As with all portable audio units, the small headphones that are provided are pretty bad. Buyers are encouraged to budget some additional money for some better headphones or earphones. The very best available are the Etymotic ER-4P's, which exhibit stunning quality, but are extremely expensive. For people on a budget, the higher-end Sony earbuds or Koss' Porta-pros or Sporta-pros will probably be adequate, or if one doesn't mind the extra bulk, Grado's SR-60 headphones provide great performance at a very reasonable price.

This machine is unusual in that it comes with two rechargeable AAA batteries which are claimed to have an average life of about six hours with the anti-shock mechanism "on" (the AC adapter serves as a recharging unit). In my limited experience so far, this seems like an accurate claim. Users can also attach a small black battery case that holds two AA batteries. With both AAA and AA batteries loaded, the machine can apparently play for up to 30 hours with anti-shock on and 38 hours with it off (this depends on how often you start and stop the unit and how loud you play your music, of course).

The anti-shock feature is about as good as any associated with today's cd portables. This means you can walk or exercise lightly with the machine and it will not skip, at least not too much. You do have to be sure to begin by letting the 40-second memory fill with the machine absolutely still, however. Even so, any kind of rhythmic up-down motion, including an all-out run, will eventually lead to skipping. For truly vigorous exercising, cassette tapes, radios, and MP3 units remain the technologies of choice.

Users should also be aware that this unit is indeed light and is encased in plastic. I really doubt this machine will survive a lot of bumping and dropping. In this regard, there is a certain truth to the old adage, "you get what you pay for."

Overall, I consider this to have been a great purchase. For me, the sound quality a player provides is more important than various bells and whistles that are added on. For people who share my priorities, this cd player is highly recommended.

Absolutely Wonderful!
I had put this cd player to it's test....and the results have proven positively remarkable. Bumpy busrides and fast pace walking has never made it skip with it's 40 sec. anti shock. So it's no wonder, the positive reviews everyone has written. The design is perfectly sleek and compact. It is one cd player, that is pleasing to the eyes as it is to the ears.

LOVE IT
Takes a hard beating (I've dropped it at the gym numerous times) and seems to run forever on the same two batteries. Highly recommended, one of the best ones I've had so far.

Great Value!
A terrific product for automobile use. Sound is excellent and controls are simple. Don't upgrade to a new car stereo with CD player, buy this product instead. Enjoy.

Great value
This stereo has excellent sound quality, especially considering its very low price. It's nice and compact and can fit easily on a bookshelf. Overall, I've been very pleased with it. The only drawback that I can tell is that it is relatively slow to switch from one CD to another.

Excellent System for amazing price
I got this system for just a little over $100 and found it worth more than the price. Though there is no bass control, I hardly find the need to tweak the bass. Infact the bass is amazing for such a small size. The sound quality is excellant. Setup doesn't take more than a minute. I have connected it to my DVD player and I really enjoy the sound.

The Best System Out There
What can I say, this system ROCKS! Hook up is really easy, the picture instructions are great to get your new system up and running. I bought this system because I knew I would utilize every function. From playing CDs, CD-Rs, to CD-RWs, listening to the radio, playing MP3s from my PC, and using it as the auxiliary sound output for my TV and DVD player so I can get that Cinema sound quality. This Micro-system isn't short on power, with 100 watts of power, two 5.25 in. Woofers, and two tweeters, you won't miss a single note. The USB link was very easy to install onto my computer; now everytime I hit the USB link button on the remote, my PC is ready to start playing my collection of MP3s. Also it has 5-CD trays, not 3, like most every other micro-system out there. Oh, and don't you hate when you have to program radio stations yourself? Most people would just say forget it, and never take the time. Well with the Philips system you don't have to worry because it can auto program itself! Just press the program button and it will ask you if you want the system to find all stations that it can pick up. I just love the Virtual Environment Control sound functions. The eight different settings provide sound adjustments to fit the specific category of sound output being played. Such as for Music there is Rock, Jazz, Pop, and Optimal. And the other four: Cinema, Cyber, Hall, and concert. Also, I can't forget the MAX Sound Feature which uses all available benefits of the Virtual Environment Control to provide maximum sound output for any volume setting. The only downside to this system is the exhaust fan in the rear of the main unit. When the system is sitting idle, such as when a CD has finished playing or the system is on Mute, you can clearly hear the fan, which for me reminds me of my computer's fan, but at about half the volume. Still I wish the system came without the exhaust fan, a maybe they could have just made more air vents on the unit. But, besides that I have no other complaints! Pros: Great modern look, excellent sound quality, great functionality, easy to set-up and use, nothing else like it. Con: Exhaust fan can be heard during very low volume.

Look out! Not reliable!
It was fun while it lasted. Bought it last Father's day, and by this Father's day, it was already broken--won't load, freezes, won't play DVD (apparently the lens needs replacing). A local TV repair shop says it will cost more than the player itself with labor involved. Audiovox will charge a flat rate of 93.75 plus the cost of shipping it to them to fix it. So basically a year later I'm having to buy the player all over again. Pretty steep considering it is only one year old, and that I took impeccable care of the player (cleaned often and kept in padded case).

Terrific DVD Player for the money!
I bought this for a planned cross country road trip that did not happen. Now I use it often if not for movies, to listen to music. The picture is great, sharp and clear. The sound is great as well.It is lightweight and it comes with the things you need to either use it in a car or to hook it up to your tv at home. The battery holds the charge well. Things that are important to me in a portable. Do not let the price fool you. Yes it is lower than most other portables but the quality is outstanding. I would and will someday buy another.

Gift for husband
I bought this for my husband's birthday (50 - so I splurged a bit). He absolutely loved it! Our two teenage children were fascinated. My husband's co-worker wanted to see it - and then ordered one for herself. My husband loves to watch dvds that I don't really want to see so the portability of the dvd player is very useful to us. It has a great picture - extremely clear. I highly recommend this player.

Good Buy
After much research, I was convinced that I wanted to buy the Phillips AZ-2000 until I realized it had an analog tuner whereas the JVC had a digital one for a lesser price. I was pleased when I received my set to find that it was very fashionable, with it's cool blue look (better than the picture illustrates). The remote has all the feautures I could desire. My only disappointment is that it doesn't control the volume. The cool thing about the remote is that you don't need a direct line of sight to control the unit, you can point it just about anywhere and it'll still work. The JVC also has the added convenience of a sleep timer and it sounds better than most radios in it's class.

Very good quality for the price.
I was looking for a portable CD/tape player for a gift and at this price, I could afford to be generous. I was concerned about the white/blue/black casing, but when I opened the box, I thought the unit was quite attractive and much better looking than in the picture. I have a JVC boombox and expected this portable would have slow, smooth opening CD and tape doors and not the "pop" opening quality of other portables; I was not disappointed. There isn't much you can do on a portable without an equalizer, but the multiple sound settings (beat/pop/clear/flat) did improve the sound quality. The sound was adequate for a bedroom. The delivery was also excellent: I ordered this JVC boombox on Friday and it was delivered by Tuesday a.m. I would recommend this unit.

ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS, I LOVE IT!!!!
I bought this boombox for my office, which is a cubicle and only partially closed in. The sound is SO CLEAR, that I can get a GREAT sound quality at a low volume, and it doesn't disturb anyone else in the office. The jazz, the classical, the hip-hop and the gospel music all sound fantastic!! I am very pleased with this product, I am going to purchase another one just like it for my home. And the price is even more fantastic!!

really good for a while......
THis player worked great at first. it had double bass boost, programable tracks, shuffle, and repeat. it also won't skip the only down things were the volume i could barely hear it on loud buses and stuff and the earphones. i listened to it everyday but then it happend. it started to play out of only the right side of any headphones i put in it so i had to switch it to mono to hear out of each. now i miss any music that comes out of only left side of the headphones. then it wouldn't open so each time i wanted to switch cds i had to pry it open. also the blue on it gets finger prints pretty easily. that all happend like a year after i got it. i suggest going with sony but if your not going to use it that much go ahead and buy it

This is what you need
This product right here is amazing the sound and the price. The only bad things about it ill come right out and say it. There's no light on it so you can't see the track number or time in night rides in your car. And the buttons are on this shiny piece of glass or something and when you touch the glass (thats every time you touch a button) you smudge it and it gets really annoying. But the good things are sound, headphones are good, and the price is good. And for the price your paying for the style is awesome you can really impress your friends. My first one got stolen :( but im still getting another one of these.

a great little companion
I bought my Philips CD player (AZ-9143) at Target. It is a bit cheaper there. I am very happy with my purchase. It plays CD-Rs, CD-RWs and regular CDs. Most portables won't play CD-Rs and CD-RWs. Sony is one of them. I guess Sony doesn't want to kill MiniDisc by selling CD-R/RW gear. This machine will give you hours of joy!

Awesome
This music system is great! The sound quality is the same as our surroumd sound entertainment center. It is the cheapest yet best stereo for the price. I was looking at a 90 watt stereo. It was $90. It was on display and the sound quality was nowhere close to as good as this stereo.Dont waste your money on any stereo.

love it
I have been looking for a new system that was cheap, the system is great has good sound quailty do not have to wake up to change cd can also listen to my tapes.Bass is great and and sounds great too.

It's great!
I love it! I wake up to my favorite cd's every morning. I hook it up to my TV and listen to movies with perfect sound, the only bad side of it is that you have to hook your TV up to the front of it.

an expensive cd player isn't supposed to break
I purchased this CD player a little more than a year ago hoping that i would never have to buy another. The metal encasement seemed to be both durable and sturdy....in other words I didn't expect it to break. About a week ago I was walking around listening to my music and all of a sudden the music stops. I open the CD player to find that the little thing used to hold the CD onto the player broke off rendering it unable to hold a CD. You would think that the last thing to break would be that. The warrenty was only a year so i called tech support hoping that they would be able to send me a new one; boy was I wrong, they ended up transfering me to a local area repair shop who wanted to charge me a rediculous 100 bucks to fix the simple part. Now I am stuck with a working CD player unable to hold a CD.

good while it lasted
I got this for a birthday gift and took it out walking that night. Using it for exercising and hooking it to my tape deck were its main uses for the 10 months I have had it. I don't jog with it much - I usually jog without it but it works just swell for jogging. (There is no reason to do with the actual discman for why I don't jog with it - it just gets in the way of my focus.) Anyhow, the other day I was walking down the street and it slipped from my hand. I have dropped it onto the pavement many times before and all that came from it were scratches. This time, like usual the headphones (new ones I got from my brother because the other ones are super-uncomfortable and the bass [stinks]) stayed on my head and the jeck came out. So I picked up my discman and hit play. So it says "No Disc." I look on the ground to see if it fell out and it didn't so I open the discman and there is the disc and about 4 pieces from the centre that hold the discman in. It is still under warranty so I'm hoping to get those piece replaced. Otherwise the discman (with my megabass headphones) is 5 stars.

Shockwaves are the best!
I should have reviewed these long ago. I've had the yellow Shockwave casette player and its withstood years of my clumsy workouts and the sound kicks butt! Today I was running with the CD player and tripped on an uneven piece of sidewalk and went flying. Since the player was strapped onto my hand I landed right on it. Sure enough, its scratched up on the surface, but still works fine. It doubles as protective gear!

The only downfall is the headphones included are crap and probably cost less than the packaging. Throw them away and get a decent set and this sounds great! It never skips either! A miracle for runners!

Good While It Lasted
I had this player for about 2.5 years and used it exclusively in my car. I was impressed with the performance and the sound was was very good/better than most portable cd players I have used in my car. However, one day the power kept turning on and off and realized that the DC Jack in the back that connects to the lighter input was busted. Not sure how this happened! However, it still works fine as a stand-alone portable.

I would reccomend this product if you have the bucks to spend and will not use it solely for car use. *sigh* I think I will just spring for an in-dash

Great first portable CD player
I needed a CD player for the many hours I spend studying in the library. I've had this player for over a year and it has served me very well. I have not met with any problems. It was a bit bulky as I had expected.

When the battery power is almost exhausted, the keys for options like extra bass and random play stop working until the battery is replaced.

I tried to use it while working out but it skipped often if I didn't have the antiskip option on (but this option tended to consume a lot more battery power). The sound quality is commendable with options for increasing the bass to your liking.

Overall it's a quality player for daily use. I highly recommend it! It met all my expectations.

I MISS YOU AIWA!
I got this CD player 2 years ago for christmas. I have to say this is a VERY VERY VERY reliable product! I droped it so many times, and it still worked. Once the cover was open and I droped it and broke a hinge but it was no biggie. The EASS was enough for me, the sound was superb and the battery life was very good. My grunt about it is this, sometime in may I left it in my fathers Iszus troopers glove box and left it there for a week. I came back to get it out (my MP3 player was out of batts) and the center ring (where you put the cd on) was bent. I don't know if it was from heat or what but that was my gripe. other than that everything about it is great! I would of gladly bought another one ...

Very good but not perfect
I've owned and used this for several months. I am happy overall but here is a list of things that bother me:

1) The romote control does light up which is good, but stays lit for only 7 seconds after you push a button. It takes MUCH MUCH longer than that for song titles to disply fully. Pushing a button to keep the light illuminted for another 7 seconds doesn't really help cuz it'll stop displaying the title and will display the info for whatever button you pressed instead.

2) The wire from the remote to the player is too short in my opinion (2 feet). It doesn't reach properly from the player inside your backpack or briefcase to your chest area where you'll probably want the remote clipped to. I also will sometimes keep the player under my car seat attached to my car stereo, and there too the wire is just a little too short.

3) The remote knob and buttons suck. They are too small and seem to play games with you. The diplay is too small as well. The entire remote and display should be much bigger! I would prefer to see the entire album title, artist name, and song title at the same time rather than small portions of only one of the above. Also, the display scratches too easily! And there is no pause button on the remote either. All very annoying.

4) The headphones that it came with have a good sound quality but they are a pain to use. One wire for one ear is much shorter than the other. One ear is always being tugged and you can't get comfortable.

5) The player does not always play MP3s in numerical or alphabetical order. If the tunes were converted to MP3 directly from a regular audio CD album, it seems to play in order. However, for people who often organize MP3 songs themselves individually on their home computer, most tracks will not play in order despite how you name them. Some tracks won't play at all! There is a small mention about this in the instruction manual. But really, this problem should not exist at all!

6) YOU CANNOT FORWARD OR REWIND WITHIN AN MP3 TRACK! You can only skip ahead to the next track or back to the previous track when listening to MP3s. This won't bother people too much who listen to 2-minute tracks, but for many people like me who listen to long tracks, this is really annoying!

7) The battery level indicator is not accurate. With my unit, it goes from full to 3/4 rather soon, but it can stay on empty (flashing danger) for another 12 hours.

8) I am sure I can think of more annoying things, but these are the big ones. However, like I said, overall the player itself is very good.

It has an " Achilles Heel", the weak rechargeable battery!
Everything was working great initially.
But two weeks later, the CD player is dead!
I tried it for a long while and finally decided that the rechargeable battery went bad since CD player still works on AC!
Why the battery died so fast? I remembered that we put it on charger for a whole night a few days ago! And this baby is so vulnerable to a very common human habit. Look! lots of people put cellphone on AC charger overnight and that doesn't kill their cellphones.

And the manual does say "battery may go flat if AC adaptor is kept on after battery is finished charging" and the battery is only in warranty for 10 DAYS!
And I searched lots of places even on www.panasonic.com, can't find any replacement of this new and special Ni-Mh type(Why not Ni-Cd?) battery.

It basically useless without its rechargeable battery.
Really disappointed!

Excellent Player
This was bought as a gift and I absolutely love it! The Directions are easy to follow and it's perfect for those people that love to workout. Highly recommended!~
