Toshiba 6019 Review

The great CD Player
Awesome Machine
The best stereo I've ever hadThe MiniDisc is a big advancement in digital audio. It's ultra compact size is made possible by ATRAC (Adaptive TRansform Acoustic Coding). The ATRAC system automatically extracts only the frequencies that are actually audible to the human ear and cuts the frequencies which are inaudible. This compresses the amount of data to be recorded to 1/5 of the normal amount.
Now I know that the Aiwa CSD-MD5--with radio, CD player, and MD player/recorder--is the best stereo I've ever had.

The best CD Player around
An extremely good CD playerThe sound is also very good. The small cylinder remote control is quite fun to use too, with all the features of the player on it. I just couldn't believe how small the player was when I first saw it, but it has performed well beyond my expectations of it. I would recommend this one for anyone. It is quite pricy for some, but for me it was well worth it. The player also has two levels of Mega bass...Having proper hearphone makes a world of difference. The earphones enclosed aren't very good...
SMALL-It's super compact. The player has almost the exact same diameter as an actual CD, and it's super thin. This is far and away the thinnest player that Sony makes, and the rival Panasonic model is roughly the same. It's very light too.
-Rechargeable batteries last. I was using this for my daily commute to and from work in NYC over the summer (about 45 minutes to an hour a day), but only had to recharge every two or three weeks. It seems like they never wear out.
-The thing just doesn't skip. I've shaken the thing furiously while playing a CD to test it and it keeps going. You really have to jar it hard for it to skip (as in hit it against something).
-Eye candy value. The designers at Sony did it again; this thing is about as svelt as they make CD players. Everytime my friends see it I get lots of oohs and ahhs.
The only things I would warn you about are:
-It's so thin that you can't put too much pressure against the top or the case will actually press against the CD and slow the disc down causing it to skip.
-The motor that moves the laser is actually kind of loud, so when you skip tracks or reach the end of the CD you can hear it from pretty far away (dunno if other people find this to be true). Otherwise it runs very silently.
If you have the money to spend, this is a great product. But it does sell at a premium. I bought mine in Japan.., so it's a bit pricier..[other places], but this model isn't easy to find elsewhere.

- AM/FM portable compact disc player
- 30-station preset memory
- CD-R/RW playback
- Skip Free ESPMAX Technology
- 4 playback modes

Very Durable
I can't break it!But then, shopping one day at target I find a pretty cool looking player for a good price that has the radio. I buy it, and I've basically listened to it since I bought it almost 2 years ago.
The sound is very good, although I'd like the volume to be a little louder. It plays all the kinds of CD's I have, so no problems there. The radio is very good, but not perfect. The buttons are pretty easy, although I still haven't figured out the pre-set buttons it doesnt really matter because it saves the station you're on.
One con is the annoying beeping sound it makes when you change a track or pause it. I have gotten used to it, but it never stops being annoying.
And, back to the durability. I've dropped this over and over, even down the stairs and it hasn't broken. My dog even got it once... and it still plays. After some hard falls you sometimes need to play with the insides a little (my way of fixing CD players) and it always works. If you want something that won't break *ever* then this is the player for you!
I admit it does skip sometimes, but this only began to happen recently (over the last few weeks). Maybe the poor thing is running out of juice. It could be my stupid CD burner that has been producing faulty unfinished CDs recently, but I'm not so sure...
Anyway, this is a very good investment especially considering the used ones are like, $40. Trust me, this thing is unbreakable.
A Great CD-PlayerLike most players, it can be hooked up to the car WITHOUT the car-ready version. A wired cassette hooked into where the headphones belong can solve the problem of wiring it to the car. The car-ready version I didn't bother with, so I recommend that you do the same, because from reviews it's not as good. The best part about this one in the car (besides the fact that you can take it out or hook it up in two seconds), is that once it's hooked in, the player can move around almost everywhere in the car. I have an old Nissan Quest, and the player can move to the front side seats, on the floor, in the middle row, and can almost reach to the back, allowing almost anyone in the car to have control when they can get it. You can also continue using the volume control up to a certain extent.
I'm not going to tell you that this machine is this perfect ingenious item. IT DOES SKIP SOMETIMES. However, it has only skipped on me twice or three times at the most, so if you decide to get this machine I hope that you get the same results. When it does fall to the floor, it makes an awful sound, but it remains intact, so don't purposely slam it into the ground.
The "radio off" button serves as a stopper for the radio and the cd, so if you press the button, the cd will stop, and when you press "play" again, it will resume to the exact point from which you left off. What is slightly a nuisance is the fact that if you want to stop the cd completely and start the cd over from the beginning, you need to press the "open" button, which means that you have to wait a couple of seconds before the cd is recognized again. The bass is pretty good, although it is really weird on my Simple Plan cd, although that might be because of the fact that I've had it since Christmas. Those same buttons (the "+" and "-"), are a little bit confusing when applied to the radio when they're used in that way for the first time, but after that they get easier.
The headphones that come with this cd-player are pretty good, although I switched them for the street-style with a friend and I consider them much better.
I enjoy downloading most of my songs as opposed to buying separate cds, so when I got this, I expected it to play my burnt cds as well, and it did, with flying colors.
All in all, I think that this cd-player is one of the best players around. I have recommended this to all my friends, and I even managed to convince my mother about buying this. She is very pleased with this model too. I hope that if you get this, you enjoy this player as much as I have and still do.

Good Value
coolest mp3 player everThis thing is light as air. It has to weigh no more than the AAA battery that powers it, if not less than it. I get like 10 hours or so out of it. It has fantastic sound. I NEVER use the full volume, and it has different equilizer settings. The LCD display is a must for mp3 players in my opinion. You can make voice recordings if you need to, and it plays both mp3 and wma file types.
You need to have Windows 2000 or higher for it to be recognized as a new plug n' play device, since it comes with no installation disks. I love not being reduced to those unstable and zero capacity floppies. You just plug it in, drag and drop, and go.
This is well worth it, not to mention it just looks tight!

Good buy... but read the review- sound: as far as I could tell, the electronics is identical to the previous generation of Panasonic players (eg. SL-360x) in every respect. Identical functions, identical mechanical parts. As a result, the sound quality is similarly good, although the output power is not very high. The anti-shock memory has never failed me so far. The headphones provided with the player are large and cumbersome for jogging, but are a sonic improvement over the previous ones. Nevertheless, classical music lovers should get better ones, because the high frequency response is mediocre.
- batteries: as in previous models, they last a long time. With Duracell batteries, battery life is ~30 hours. Rechargeable batteries can be used, and recharged with the provided adapter without taking them off the player.
- ergonomics: new and improved. The CD won't accidentally start when put into a backpack, since the button are at alevel with the case. The jogger handgrip is comfy, adjustable and the buttons are easy to reach even when jogging. The overall look is also very pleasing.
And now the *bad* remarks:
- paint: the silver plastic of the scaffold is very delicate and scratches easily. The CD player should be kept in a well-padded pocket of your jacket or packpack. Otherwise it will wear very quickly. In this respect, I liked the old black Panasonic better: uglier, but more sturdy too.
- mechanics: the mechanics is *very* delicate. If you regularly listen to music while jogging, your Panasonic will display the message "sorry" more and more often, and won't play the desired track. The problem lies with the mechanical actuators of the optical laser reader, which are damaged by repeated shocks.
My final advice is: if you want a portable CD player for "light" use (e.g., listening while studying on campus), this is an ideal buy. For for heavier use, go for thougher models, like the panasonic SL-SW505J. The price difference is worth the added reliability.
cd player with alot of twist!
I love this gadget !I use it in a belt pouch, so the surface still has it's pristine silver finish (re a complaint from a previous reviewer) and it's simple enough for even a "low-tek" like me to operate. This is a great gizmo ! I've never felt better...20 pounds gone and counting. Thank you Panasonic !

good features & sound
Good sound, good featuresInstead of just presets and bass boost, it has a parametric equalizer. Bass, mid, and treble can each be adjusted up or down three, each in high, mid, or low positions, for a total of 21 possible adjustments in each range. Bass may not boom, but it isn't boomy or muddy, either. The setting is saved as custom. There are also presets (I have used "Heavy" for some rock, but off otherwise).
Although I have used SonicStage software, I don't recommend it (not because I dislike Atrac3, but because I don't like the program). MP3s made by any program, burned to cd by any program, can be used on this player. I have used CDs with LAME MP3s (VBR) burned by MusicMatch and Nero with no problem. Nested directories also weren't a problem. MP3 CDs do take longer to load up when they are first put in (less than 30 seconds for a 700MB CD with 7 directories, 81 tracks, 625MB; less than 15 for commercial audio CD). Titles scroll and you can change the display options.
There are several playback options, including 10 most frequently played (also shuffle), and by group and m3u playlists on MP3 CDs among others.
The one problem with this player is the physical feel. The plastic is very light and thin so it seems a bit flimsy. The hold button on the bottom doesn't have as solid a feel as the ones on my Sony MD player or Clie, but the same as the NE510 so maybe that is just the CD player style. For the price, this isn't unexpected therefore I did not give it 4 stars.
i really like it
I did spend good money on speakers, especially a quality sub.
As another reviewer wrote here, this is my favorite toy.
