Not a good buy
Have this machine. Much to my disappointment it was not able to handle the Dual Layer DVD. Just told me it could not find the disc. Tried with two different DVD's.

Decent DVD player but shortcomings are too much
Bought this DVD player a couple of days ago, nice features, lots of connections in the back incl. optical connection. There are lots of useful buttons on front including a shuttle dial, and you can change pitch. However, first movie stopped about an hour into it and would not continue to play. Had to turn off machine and back on again to get it to play. Did the same on several other DVD's that I know to be good. Unit runs HOT, smell of "hot electronics/plastic" wafts through air as it plays. There is no power button on remote so you have to press the power button on unit each time, very inconvenient. Remote is laid out rather poorly so navigating through menus can be difficult. MP3 recognition is flaky. In short, I highly recommend going either with RCA or a different brand. GE is bottom of the barrel for Thomson Consumer Electronics, and it shows.

Excellent Budget DVD Player.
In my opinion, this is the *best* of the low-budget Chinese Made DVD Players, offering excellent picture and sound for DVD's. Also plays mp3's flawlessly (although no shuffle feature) and even has the bonus of full karaoke features! Finally it has coaxial AND optical output (rare on a low price DVD Player). You can't go wrong with this DVD Player. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Great DVD, not great for CDs
When our 5-disk CD player finally conked out, we replaced it with this slick DVD/CD player. As a DVD player it works just fine, but I doubt most people are looking to shuffle between 5 DVDs. Like us, most people are looking for it to do double duty as the home's primary CD player as well. If so, you might be disappointed. Two big problems:

(1) It is too slow in scanning CDs and responding to commands. If you just want to play a CD, you'll hate waiting around for it to be ready to accept your next instruction.

(2) The random shuffle mode is poorly designed. If you just hit the "random" button, it will play the tracks on one CD in random order and then stop. Huh? If you are able to get it into the random2 setting, it plays the tracks on the first CD randomly and then the tracks on the next CD randomly. Huh Huh? If you're like me, you want the random function to play the tracks on all CDs in the machine randomly. This DVD player can do that, but it's very hard to get the setting correctly because it involves hitting the random button three times. Now that doesn't sound difficult, but it has to register three hits. That means that you have to do it slow enough that the slow machine registers the hits, but fast enough that it doesn't think you're done -- all this without any indication from the machine of how many hits it has registered. Hint: if you turn your TV on in DVD mode, it will actually tell you which random setting you are on. That's convenient -- NOT.

Good overall value with many great features
I researched MANY DVD players, and after much deliberation, I decided to give the Toshiba SD-2715 a try.

I had it connected to my TV and up and running in just a few mintues. The picture and audio quality were great. I had never used a "zoom" mode DVD player before, and this feature was a nice surprise that might come in handy once in a while. You can pause the movie and then zoom in to check the monogram on a shirt button, or just let the movie play while you zoom in and pan around the screen with the navigation arrows. Very cool.

The first negative thing I noticed was how SLOW this player is to identify and load a disc. It literally takes 20 seconds to figure out what kind of disc it's reading and to start playing. I tried VCD's and MP3 CD's created with my CD-RW drive on my computer, and a variety of different DVD's. So far, it has played EVERYTHING I've thrown at it... but again, the load speed is excruciatingly ssslllloooowwwww.

The only other negative is that it won't play MP3 files in random order. Who wants to listen to an MP3 CD with 250 songs on it in the SAME ORDER EVERY TIME? I'm glad it plays MP3's at all, of course, but I don't know how often I'll use this feature when there is no way to randomize the playlist.

Post purchase, I've done some research online... and so far I've only found ONE other DVD player that will actually play MP3's randomly (APEX 1500). I'm sure there are others, but I doubt that they will have all of the other positive features of this player. It's a good buy.

5 discs, plays VCDs, great price, but chokes on Black Hawk
Having great experiences with a Toshiba SD2700 DVD player, I thought the SD2715 would make a great secondary unit. Within a day, it became my primary DVD player, and the 2700 was off to the basement TV.

It has shown massive stuttering on "Black Hawk Down" - hoping it is a bad rental copy. Plays "The Matrix" with no problems - usually a litmus test for cheap decoders in cheap players. Hopefully an isolated event. I'll amend the review with an update.

Plays VCDs recorded on the cheapest media known to man. Allows for Disc Exchange while others are playing - a nice feature when you're looking for that rental DVD while watching another movie. Gives off a nice picture. Tip: turn on the 3D Audio function for pronounced rear channel effects off a 5.1 disc - sounds great.

Great player for the price. It does take 10 seconds to warm up, but it's a nice, reliable player.

Decent system
This Aiwa system (like many of the company's products), has some serious problems with it. My friend picked it up about a year ago, and since then its only been downhill.

The CD changer conked out, the tape deck became a hazard to his tapes.

But its low price ensures that it will still be an attractive option. It does well with most types of music. However there is a bit too much Harmonic Distortion at higher volumes, which is quite noticeable(unless you only listen to heavy metal :)) It might look like a giveaway price at first, but look into it carefully...you may be getting more hassles that you bargained for.

My advice is to go for the Panasonic SC-AK58, which has similar specifications to this stereo, but with better overall quality.

Beats a boombox, maybe
To be honest, I've had better sound from two tin cups on strings. But everything arrives in one box and Amazon will ship it right to your door - and for a 5 channel surround system, the price is right. There are all kinds of DSP (digital signal processing) options you can use to tweak the sound if you're not using a 5-channel input (high end VCR's and DVD players provide this for movie watching); but these options have the habit of cancelling themselves at the drop of a hat. Luckily resetting them is easy.

There are all the bells, whistles, karaoke, equalizer, bass booster, dynamic range/compression utilities you could ask for; there's even a drum machine to add rhythm and a slot-machine like irritating game which is, most unfortunately, the machine's default setting. (You can make it show the clock by pressing 'clock' each time you power off.)

For the price, you get loud, low-end sound, a 3-CD changer, and decent 2-tape and tuner capability. I run my computer sound out through it too, in the mini-disc port, with no problem. I'd buy it again, with no illusions about audiophile-quality sound, just because it annoys my neighbors.

Better than BOSE
Wow, how do I explain the quality of the sound of this complete system? I have a Bose sound system and this is just as great, if not better. I added a subwoofer to my system to give it an even more bass boost. If you have a DVD player, you're in for something great. It is BETTER THAN THE MOVIES! Wait untill you hear the center speaker. It has great features like karaoke, dolby pro logic, and DSP surround sound. This is THE BEST!

Very Good Value, Great for Travel, Good sound
I bought these to use with my ipod, I just couldn't see spending the $100-150 for the high end Altec Lansing and Creativ speaker units, especially given the fact that reviews seem to be love 'em or hate 'em for those models as well.
I quite like these speakers, the sound quality is good and reasonably full with Jazz, Classical or Rock music. True given the rather limited output, these would not be suitable for a display at a convention or a raging party, but they are perfect for a hotel room, (quiet) dorm or office. Yes, there are three wires (2 for the speakers the other from the music source (ipod, mp3)) but the advantage is that you can space the speakers farther apart then with other speakers I've seen. The unit does not come with a power adaptor but has an input for one which can be purchased on the manufacturer's website www.si-5.com. Otherwise it uses 4 AAA batteries.

Can't beat the price and it sounds pretty darn good.
These speakers are well designed, and give a good, but not great sound. Highs are bright and crisp but slightly wobbly, midrange is fine, and bass is present but somewhat weak. Sounds best at moderate volume.

One of the key things for me is portability, and here is where this system shines. The speaker/amp package is great for travel or just toting about town. To start with it is very light. The form is also also thoughtfully designed. The two speakers clip togeather to form a package slightly thicker than a standard CD jewel case. This also protects the papery speaker fabric. The tiny amp is sculpted so that it fits your hand, and the wires are plugged at poth ends and detachable. Be sure to have a clip or rubberband around to keep the wires together after you dissassemble.

I can't belive how inexpensive it is! You won't be sorry if you buy this, but even if by some odd chance you were - it's not much dough out of your pocket.

What a surprise
Just spent the last month checking the internet for portable speakers to take on vacation. I wanted something as small as possible, good sound and a modest price. When I first saw the price of the SI-5, I thought "They can't sound very good for that price but after reading all the reviews on amazon.com and a few other sites I decided to purchase these. If they turned out not so great sounding, I could return them and start my quest all over again. I bought them this past Saturday at BestBuy and hooked them up almost immediately to my Sony MD Walkman. All I can say is "What a surprise." I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for compactness, good sound and an incredibly great price in travel speakers. I only regret not waiting another day because Circuit City here had them on sale for $17.99 and I also had a $5.00 off coupon which would have brought the price down to $12.99. That would have been an even more incredible bargain for what you are getting for the little bit of money being spent.

its not very good
this cd player is kinda good, not as good for jogging, if you even tap on it, it skips, pretty plain, not much, but it gets tht job done if its on a flat table.

If You Want To listen To A CD Alot, This One Isn't For You
I wish I could write a great review for this. But I really can't. The rating I'm giving it is very generous. We'll start with the sound. It's just plain OK, thats it. The headphones are pretty cheap, so they don't help the sounds depreciating quailty besides. The skip protection is good (25-35sec.) The battery life somewhat good about 15-20, mabey not even that.

...the quality just isn't their. I had it for about 4 months(bought in 5/6/00) after I bought it, it was goofing up on me. When it was bumped or not, it would just turn off. This was very, very annoying because your listening to a song and it quits, you turn it on again, and it quits a minute or two later...The bottom line, DO NOT BUY IT...You'll just waste your money...

It does the job
This Discman does the job quite nicely. I got it to replace a Panasonic portable CD player from 1994 and was pleasantly surprised at how much better it is. The battery life is WAY longer. I haven't actually counted, but the 16-hour advertised battery life sounds just about right. I used to use the AC adapter all the time with the Panasonic, but I don't even bother with this Discman. ESP works great to prevent skipping, and it rarely skips under normal conditions even without ESP (my old player skipped constantly, especially in the car). The sound is great. There's two bass settings, megabass and groove. I find groove to be TOO bass-y, but megabass is just right. The only feature I really miss is backlighting on the display when running off AC power. The Panasonic had that, and it made using the player at night in a car a lot easier. Also, when you hit pause, the player beeps regularly and frequently. This is good because you don't accidentally leave it in pause and chew up all your battery life, but it's really irritating when you've paused it to talk to someone and you keep hearing this beeping.

Is it that good
I bought this CD player, but I paid the full price. I thought the unique style and the price was pretty affordable. The anti- skip system is one of the best that I have ever used. The one problem that I can think of is that every time you turn it on you have to turn on the bass every time, which for me it gets pretty tireing doing this. Another thing is when you move the part of the ear plug, that plugs into the cd player its self, distubes the sound and sometimes makes it so you can only hear it in one ear. Over all though it is pretty good and if you have more money to spend try to get the better one, and buy it from Amazon it is a whole lot cheaper.

Isnt 100% non skip but close enough
I ordered this product for the second time being that I gave my first to a relative after using it for over a year. This is a great sports walkman because it in my opinion is one of the better brands as far as not skipping(Sony sportman is the overall best)compared to others ive used(5 different kinds in past 10 years). It is not perfect thought because it does have a tendency to skip once in great while but you gotta be really jumping up and down or running rather rapidly for it to do that. Overall any activity you do while using this walkman is not really interfered with. The sound quality is great and the hand strap is a great size for anyone to adjust to. I would recommend it over all the others even though it costs a bit more its a small price to pay for consistency, great sound, and overall enjoyment with less aggrevation from the constant skipping from other CD walkmans that claim to be Anti-skip.

water, heat, sand no problem
This cd walkman is the best a soldier can buy and have it last in the most extreme weather conditions. I am so impresed I would recommend to anyone looking for a die-hard cd player. As everyone has mentioned, the headphone jack to the headphones is all messed up. It shorts out, but can be corrected by buying a better set. I love the sturdy and rugged feel of the system, it's a little heavier and a lot more durable than most out on the market. So, if you are looking for a reliable system, look no further, this has been soldier tried and tested. Hooah!!! Support your troops and President Bush, and let freedom ring.

i m irritated lately with this product.
i was happy to have this discman. but lately it is giving me some problems. whenever i try to change the title or new song it goes back to the 1st song and i cant play the song i want to but i have to start listening to song from the 1st one.any one to solve my problem.

EXCELLENT! Hours of music using CD-Rs I already burned.
I can use the CDs i burned before I purchased this Player. PHILIPS has a winner here especially at this ... Price. Now I can enjoy my whole Music collect when I am traveling and all on few CDs. Although i have not tried it, this unit will also use CD-RWs which means I can delete and add music as I like to my CDs. And the options are many, shuffle, repeat, all in any combination. You can't go wrong with this one as a New Toy or as a Gift.

That's good
sound quality is incredible this is philips....if i compare price and sound quality the result is perfect.

Worst CD-MP3 player i've seen!!
D-Link should stick to networking products...the moment i put batteries on this mp3 player, i knew something was really wrong with it...sound quality was horrible, battery life was horrible, skipped all the time, even when i pressed any button, it would reset itself all the time...i give it 1 star because i can't give it any less...DO NOT BUY THIS!!!...i returend it the next day and bought a RIO CD-MP3 player...MUCH MUCH BETTER!!!!!

Blah!
Me and this MP3 player never seemed to hit it off. It skips everywhere--even in the car--so the music I'm listening to gets interupted left and right. The battery life is horrific, the sound quality is ok, but man, what's the point if you can't walk around with your portable player if it skips? I wouldn't recommend this if you like to actually move around.

Average MP3-CD Player
I got the D-Link DMP-CD100 CD juss a couple of days ago, and it turned out kind of below average. The great thing about the CD-Player is that it can play CD's consisting of over 100 MP3's and the price is acceptable. On the negative side, the CD-Player skips a lot, and there is no ESP (electronic skip protection) when playing MP3's. Also, when playing regular CD's, the player skips often even with ESP on. My opinion, if you really are broke, and need a MP3-CD player, this one is for you. But if you really want one with good quality, then don't get this at all...

DO NOT BUY PANASONIC!!!
Aside from the annoying load times and the fact that it broke after the first 9 months, this was a pretty good DVD player otherwise.
I got this player as a gift to replace a vintage player from the late 1990's. In contrast it was a pretty bad move, while my old player would load a disc in no time flat, the Panasonic would take about 30-45 seconds to read the disc BEFORE it began playing.
It was something I could live with, but I wouldn;t have to for long. After about 9 months the thing started showing error H07. BLAST. I started to Google and came to realize I was not the only person with this problem.
I contacted Panasonic via Email, they informed me that I would have to ship my player away and would be charger labor to repair the player.
Seeing mixed results on the web, and with a hefty price tag of approx.85-100 for the repair I decided against it, and pulled my old payer out of the closet.
I WILL NEVER BUY PANASONIC ANYTHING ever again.

Panasonic DVD-CP67 and the H07 error code
I bought this player about a year ago. It skipped a few times in the beginning of its life. I recently started authoring DVDs, and when they did not play correctly, I thought it was the media or the rate in which I captured the video through my Dazzle. But this past weekend, it eventually died player and audio CD giving an error code of H07. I googled this error code and found that Panasonic charges $85 for labor to fix.

I'm going to through this unit in the trash and buy a better one for less money.

No buyer's remorse! Great unit, excellent price.
This unit replaced an older Panasonic DVD player, and the brand name influenced my decision to purchase this model. I had also read a good review on a similar model by Panasonic and decided to take the plunge when the price dropped below $150. To summarize, the colors are fantastic, and the unit played all the discs I tried (mp3, VCD, CDR, etc). Also, the remote control does indeed have small buttons, but it really doesn't bother me at all. The only complaint I have is that the model cannot determine the type of disc (i.e., DVD, VCD, etc) in the tray position until it actually plays it. Also, there's no way to tell which DVD is in which position (which may be a common complaint for all multi-disc DVD players). But, when all is said and done, I have no regrets!

Terrible Radio
Wished I had read reviews 1st. Absolutlely terrible radio reception. I also get loud whooshing sound in background of fm stations, and can receive almost no am stations. Remote has never worked. Technical or customer assistance from GE is nonexistent. Only function that works is CD player.

Enjoying my new Spacemaker...
We are out in the country and while, I cannot pick up all the radio stations, it's not necessarily because of the Spacemaker. I can't get some stations with my huge stereo system.

It was easy to install, and perfect for listening to music while you fix dinner. It's not going to be a BOOM BOX that will fill the whole house. Just enough for the kitchen. It looks nice too. All in all, a good buy and it was a wonderful mother's day gift.

A great product!
I received this as a Mother's Day gift, and I am very pleased with the quality of sound it provides and with all the smart features of this product.

The remote control is an awesome convenience - I leave the remote on the kitchen table and use it more than the actual controls on the radio. There is capacity for 10 pre-set stations, which is also a great feature, so you can easily flip to another station when you're in the mood for something new. All the features are included on the remote, so you can turn it on/off, adjust volume, change stations, and switch from AM to FM to CD without getting up.

Also, it was super-easy to install. The instructions were clear, and there was a cardboard template to tape to the bottom of the cabinet with pre-marked holes for drilling. It was installed in 10 minutes.
