Ok, this CD player is great, it's soo cute, and you'll fall in love with it as soon as you put a cd in it. You should buy this CD player if you love listening to music more than anything. I love this CD player, but I wished mine worked better. Mine dosn't work so well because I'm a clumsy teen, and either me or one of my friends are dropping it all the time. But it's still great, I want to buy another one.

Still working great!
Seeing my review was still the only one I figured it was time for a follow-up:
I purchased this player ... and thought it was worth it- now it's way down. From what I know of, it is the only Sony in production that has the feature combination it does with the style the d-j405 has.
And that would include:
-CD Player with CD-RW playback (saves money by allowing you to use rewriteable CD's)
-G-Shock Protection- no skips. period. And unlike ESP Protection, G-Shock enabled SAVES battery life
-AM/FM Tuner with more presets than you can ever use. Good reception as well
-Remote control- great if you're walking or jogging and need to put the unit in your pocket but still need control (can change tracks, volume, radio presets)
-Rechargeable batteries- good life span. charged in-unit (also, battery compartment is inside the player, so batteries don't fall out)
-Street-style headphones are a good compliment to the remote (due to cord length), are as shown on picture above

I've had the unit for about 5 months now and there are no complaints. Sony has once again made a great, stylish unit packed with functionality. IRiver does make a similar model with an mp3 cd player function, but it doesn't have the same shock protection, earbuds that are included are cheap (so i've heard), and battery pack doesn't last that long. Sony makes a sports model like this also but it is more money, and in my opinion doesn't look as good (this one looks pretty stylish) If you're looking for a CD player with an am/fm tuner, this is the one to go with.

Definately worth it
I purchased the D-FJ61 a few years back and wanted to get a new unit. I was pondering between the FJ-401 and this one. The FJ-401 is the same unit, excluding the remote function and rechargeable batteries- but its definately worth the extra money to get those. The player itself is all you would expect from Sony- I had no major issues. TV/Weather Band is a nice feature, but I can't get any Weather Band Stations. There are only 3 direct preset buttons- but they can be set for any band. There's no more FM1/2/3- presets can be scrolled through now, and there's room for more presets then there are stations that I listen to- I could pretty much preset every station there is. The CD player works great- G Shock Protection has a defiante edge over ESP. The rechargeable battereries included have quite a long life as well. If you're looking for a portable CD/Radio Tuner Combo and don't mind putting in the extra buck, this is the one to go with.

definitely worth it
I've had this cd player for 3 years now and it still works fine, you CANNOT get it to skip. This player was worth the few extra bucks because I doubt any other player would of lasted this long with all the use and abuse.

the best cd player i have ever used!
Everything is great on this player. The batteries never run out because the system recharges the batteries, and it still has never skipped on me. It is really worth the price.

    Great Value!
I bought this specific CD player because it was the best value. It weighs only 7.3 ounces and is 1 1/16 inches tall. To start off, it's 48-second ESPMAX anti-shock hasn't skipped yet. I turned it upside down and dropped it on the floor, the CD slipped out of it's pivot and the player kept on playing for a few more seconds. I can't believe Sony can make a better anti-shock system (G-Protection). I also have had it fall off my seat of my car and fall on the floor with anti-shock off and it still didn't skip. I don't even need to use the anti-shock when I ride in my car. This is because it is built to resist skipping. I think you only have to use the ESPMAX for jogging. It has great two-level digital Mega Bass sound. Your settings will be remembered every time you turn it on unlike most players around this price. It also has digital volume for precise sound levels. Since it has digital volume, Sony decided to have a hold switch to lock your settings against any any accidental operations. It also has AVLS to limit your maximum volume. You can connect this player to other stereo equipment with a connecting cord though the headphone jack. You can also connect the CD player to a car cassette deck with a car connecting pack and a car battery cord (not included). While almost all CD players have a low battery indicator that pops up when there is only a few seconds left of batteries, this player has a battery indicator that is always on that shows about how many fourths of the batteries are left. The battery life of this player is 25 hours with ESP off or 24 hours with ESP on. My favorite features on this player are its digital volume, one-of-a-kind battery indicator, and hold switch. I also like the ESPMAX and two-level digital Mega Bass. You will also greatly enjoy them. However there is a setback to this CD player, when you go under certain powerlines, the music stops and is replaced by a fuzzy noise. Don't worry, this rarely happens. You have to turn off the unit then turn it back on to continue listening to your music. Luckily, the resume feature starts playing on the place you left off.

Now about what the buttons do from left to right. To start off, the ESP switch is under the CD lid. Its headphone jack is on the left side of the CD player, the open button is the half-circle shaped button on the left part of the the player, farther right are the volume down and up buttons with the hold switch below them. Between the volume buttons and the display screen is the sound button. The sound button is for the digital MEGA BASS or for the AVLS is you hold it down for a second. Then when you pass over the display screen you get to the menu button. The menu button is for its 5 different play modes, normal, repeat (all tracks), single track, repeat play (single track), and repeat shuffle play. Note that there isn't track programming on this particular unit. Then farther right you see the stop button (also a pause button for the resume feature). Farther right you get to the button that searches backwards, goes to the beginning of the current track or goes to the beginning of previous tracks if you press it repeatedly. Farther right is the play button which also searches forward through the current track or goes to upcoming tracks if pressed repeatedly. And finally on right side of the CD player is the DC IN 4.5 V input. Thanks for reading.

    The BEST Walkman from Sony!
If you are looking for a CD Walkman that will NOT skip, sounds GREAT with the standard headphones, and is very light and slim, then THIS IS IT!! I have purchased many CD Walkmen in the past and I was totally amazed the first time I used this. What struck me immediately was the AMAZING sound from the headphones that came with the package. A lot of folks buy separate headphones for their walkmen, but their is NO need here. As a matter of fact, if my headphones ever go bad, or wear out, I plan on getting the same headphones that came in the package!

There is also a double bass boost with this unit and I got PLENTY of bass with no bass boost at all or just a single bass boost. And the best part is there is NO distortion if you go to double bass. I listened to the typically bassy Pink Floyd my first time out with this unit and I thought I got the bargain of a lifetime with this Walkman...I would have gladly paid more for this. The one thing that I "thought" I was disappointed in is that there is no pause button, but it doesn't matter because if you turn your unit off and on, it will start off where you left off on your CD when you turned it off. Also, no AM/FM radio, but I have no interest in radio on my walkmen. I enjoy my CD's too much.

BUY IT..you will not be disappointed and you can thank me later!

    MD's Will Take Over!
Mini-Discs are going to be the music media choice for the next millenium! They are smaller than CD's and have more editing options available. There is no skipping in a portable Mini-Disc player like CD players. What people don't know is that they've been around since the early 90's, and are just now getting noticed. I recommend converting, I have........Amen! *L*

    mini disk rules
This is the best thing since sliced bread. I am a DJ in a club that has two mini disk players and i would be lost without them I think everyone should at least try a mini disk just once that will be all it will take.

This should be the carousel standard for audio c.d.s...
Other than the vast array of conveniences, features, and superb audio qualities this player offers are also it's unique characteristics of quiet operation. The 5-disc rotating tray is very smooth and quick; you hear no "clunk" noise. You even forget how much time or seconds pass between the changing of discs;sometimes you get the impression that the first song on disc 5 was at the end of the track list on disc 4. Also, the opening and closing of the tray is well damped and very gentle (unlike other machines where the tray opens and closes to the point where you feel your discs are gonna fly out or fall off)! The pitch control is a heaven sent conveninece for consumers and a must for djs. When you pair the SL PD-10 with the Technics 1200 MK turntable series, as I have for parties, whether pro dj or not, the results are astonishing !At under ($) this Technics carousel is almost a steal (unless you want to go with a dvd/cd combo player for a few hundred more bucks)...

SLPD10 and the gift of music
The Technics SL-PD10 cd player (actually, a true Panasonic product) is sort of a brother model to the SL-PD8 (favorably reviewed in the pages of Amazon.com). It consists of a 5 disc cd changer, with remote, that provides very good sound. It also has a pitch control (not available on the SL-PD8) that allows fine tuning of the cd lecture. In my system, it is coupled with the 100 Wpc Technics SA-EX140 amplifier (receiver), connected with Monster Interlink 300 interconnect cable. Ohm speakers and Monster Powerline speaker cable complete my system. The SL-PD10 certainly gives good results, if not excellent. One thing I like, in particular, is the fact that this cd player can play indeed any sort of home-made cd's. With the evolving technology and popularity of the "cd burners", this is a very useful. My previous system (a JVC unit: the UXT3 micro component) was not able to play those non-standard cd's: a frustration I tamed by buying the SL-PD10! In sum, a good investment at the price range. Good listening!

    Another TIVO
I can't say enough about this product. I liken this to the enthusiasm most have with Tivo. I bought it last summer when it first shipped. My first one did have a hard drive problem after a couple of days but Yamaha was incredibly responsive and shipped me a brand new one overnight. I was actually very surprised at how easy it was to "get going"....less than 15 minutes including loading my first CD to the hard drive.
Using it is also so straightforward that my kids were able to use it after only a couple of minutes of coaching...they all have their own playlists now which they just love. I actually moved out of my house for a remodel project and set it up in the temporary housing without incident. Also I've gone through one product firmware upgrade and the addition of one "client" also without incident. I have two "clients" in the house and they kids love the ability to play their playlists at the same time in two different rooms.
A couple of things to note...you really need a TV monitor hooked to the server to effectively navigate the menus to do anything more than "play" or "record" (which most people will likely do anyway). Also be aware of the "recording" and "burning" rules/constraints before buying so your expectations are set appropriately if you like to "burn" playlists to CD's for use on portable devices.

    very nice product
I bought one of the MusicCast systems as soon as it was available (after drooling over it at a couple of trade shows). The first thing I did was upgrade the harddrive to 200GB. Required a trip by my dealer to my house, but it gave me much more capacity. The interface is very intuitive. It's very fast at copying from cd to the internal disk. In the background, it converts from PCM to whatever MP3 compression level you've set for default (I always use 320KB). You can remove the PCM version to save space (I keep it for critical listening stuff, but my wife doesn't care, so her PCM's are deleted immediately :-) I have a couple of the MCX-A10 terminals scattered around the house. I've had them connect through ethernet and wireless and seems to work fine for both. Yamaha just released a software update that allows access to the MusicCast database through a web browser. This makes it very easy to fix titles, artists, etc. (You can plug a keyboard into the MusicCast, but it requires powering down which is too much trouble for me). I have to say that the most annoying thing about the MusicCast is the GraceNote CDDB database. Yamaha's implementation is great. The CDDB database is a mess. Album titles are inconistent, misspelled, etc. That's why having the browser editing is such a big deal to me. The best endorsement I can give is that my wife really likes the MusicCast. She was sceptical, but after seeing how it works and being able to browse her music, she's sold. Highly recommended for anyone who just wants to be able to enjoy their music without having to deal with PC's.

    A High Quality Boom Box
I recived the Aiwa CSDFD81 last year on my birthday, so i was not aware of the price. I thought this was an expensive boombox. I was mistaken. This boombox has a lot of features and has an extremly high quality for the price. First this boombox can play every cd format: cd, cd-r, and cd-rw. Which is very nice if you are into MP3 swaping. You also have the standard repeat and program features but you can also repeat only one song with a touch of a button. If you put the cd into the player before you turn it on and then press the cd power button it will play the cd automaticly. It has a digital tunner built in and allows you to store up to 12 stations (i have yet to use all 12 spots). You can recall these stations with the play button or with the nifty remote that comes with the system by punching in the numbers. The tape player is nice too, it senses when there is no tape in the player so if you accdently pushed one of the buttons unknowingly it will shut off the tape player for you so you don't waste energy. The system has a three mode EQ(rock, Pop, and Jazz) that you can control from the button on the system or on the remote. It has a Digital Bass Boost that can also be controled from both the remote and the system. The only thing that can't be controled from the remote is the Q-sound. Q-sound is a great feature turns on the two other speakers that are smaller thats really all i know about Q-Sound from a technical point of view. i have yet to find a song that sounds better with Q-Sound, the only thing i do with it is kareoky (i think thats how it is spelled!)because it makes the music and backround vocals louder then the singer. This system has a sleep timer also. The speakers work great. There is no distortion at maximum volume even with hard rock music playing on it. I had a gig at my school to dj and this was my first time djing so i had no equipment so i tried to find a power speaker that i could use to connect to my boom box. I could not find one so i decided to make do with the boombox itself. That little thing was more then enough. We had about 20-30 people and the music was still heard clearly by everyone. It was louder then the other boombox (which had bigger speakers) i was using also. This boombox is a great deal. You get so much for so little money. I am still impressed by this thing and i think you will be too.

      Not Bad....
Now when you're looking for a great mini audio system it definitely has to Aiwa! I think Aiwa always live up to it's name in personal electronics but especially on small home audio systems. It sounds great!!! The low thundering bass & the crisp highs. With it's 80 watt of power you can rock a house party with this little baby. Small in design compared to other brands. It's tight compact design that's you store it in small spaces, great for college students like myself with a small dorm. I was also amazed by it's great lcd display. Of course the 3 cd, double cassette works up to the name of Aiwa. A+
