Love them Belgians--HD600s for $177
BEST headphones, if used in a quiet room & w/ good equipmntHowever, be warned that these aren't the kind of toy headphones most people are used to. They need to be driven by somewhat powerful equipment - many portable audio devices aren't up to the task (which will result in low peak volume). They don't provide any substantial noise isolation, and should be used in a quiet room. They can be easily heard by those around you. They won't stand up very well to being tossed around and dropped. And they will only sound as good as what you plug them into.
The HD-600's are designed for one thing: uncompromising reproduction of sound. Therefore, be sure to consider whether they are a good fit for your needs, before spending so much.
Anyhow, I might add that there's no way many apartment dwellers could enjoy such exquisite sound, without them. Oh, and they're also the most comfortable pair of headphones I've ever used.
WOW!!!! THIS THING IS AWESOME!!
- Powerful, high performance audio output in an extremely small format driver
- One of the lightest earphones available anywhere for portable listening

Sounds Good
READ ME!!!! unbiased reviewAfter a bit of testing with the different sleeves, i found that the medium foam sleeves are the best in terms of comfort AND isolation - oh yeah, these go pretty deep into your ear, or else you won't get any bass at all. Before you turn on the music, everything's muffled - you can still hear anything outside, its just more subdued (some report i read said that they provide about 20 decibels of isolation). When you turn on the music, however, you won't notice any outside noise at all, unless its EXTREMELY loud.
Remember - if you want some of the best premium headphones on the market, don't need mega bass, and can take care of your stuff, then get these e2's. You won't be dissapointed. I use these with my iPod daily.
P.S. if you still can't hear quality out of these headphones, either they're defective or you need to encode your music at a higher bitrate - at least 160 for mp3, 128 for aac, and 96 for wma.
Excellent product, blows any earbud away! These earphones are very low profile and unobtrusive to wear. They do not create the fatigue I get while wearing regular headphones for a long period and the sound blows away the numerous earbuds I have tried. I use the flex fit sleeves which are very comfortable. By cinching up the sleeve on the cord, they stay in place with minimal fuss even while exercising.
I strongly recommend these earbuds to anyone who wants immersive, comfortable and excellent sound.

Great Headphones, But Not for Travel
Excellent headphones!
SENNHEISER HD 212 PROPerformance: If you do buy these headphones make sure you give them a good burn in session before you evaluate them. I noticed the headphones sounded better after playing a variety of music for about 10 hours.
Sound: The sound is definitely bass heavy; however the sound produced does not sound muddy, rather the sound produced is crisp and clear.
Portability: The headphones are not all that portable, since they don't fold.
Comfort: The headphones are comfortable, but not so comfortable to be worn hours on end. Note that if you plan on wearing glasses while wearing these or any headphones with ear cups, they may or may not cause some discomfort.
Roundup: The HD 212 PRO is very nice, producing excellent sound quality for headphones under sixty dollars, all without the use of an amplifier. Lastly the bass heavy sound makes it ideal for more upbeat modern music, such as pop, rock or trance.
Note: The information provided is my opinion, based on my own personal knowledge and experience. Therefore I can not guarantee that you will have the same opinion of this product.

A ClassicIt was time to replace them since the cord is finally shorting too much to ignore any longer and my ears are always covered with black stuff and foam from the disintergrating earcups. I asked around and a colleague who is the audio technician on a popular TV show told me without hesitation, these are the ones to buy. It's what he uses on the set and at home. I'm glad Sony still makes 'em. Maybe I should buy another pair for ten years down the road...
My favorite headphonesDo not buy the MDR-600s by mistake. I have never used them, but I have read numerous reviews that state that the MDR-600s are inferior to the MDR-V6s. You can still buy the MDR-V6s, but they are harder to find. I bought mine at millionbuy because Amazon did not have them in stock. For some reason, the MDR-V6 product name at Amazon magically changed to MDR-600, even though it is an entirely different product. I am not sure why this happened.
The audioreview Web site has a great collection of headphone reviews.
Fidelity, efficiency, durability, affordabilityYou can get a more detailed sound out of headphones, but these are remarkably good for the price. Considering the prevalence of these headphones in studio environments, they've become somewhat of a standard. You could get better, but you'd have to spend considerably more money.
These headphones also shine in their efficiency. Essentially a headphone's efficiency relates to how much volume of sound is produced by a given amount of input. This is probably one of the most important specs to concern yourself with in headphones. Many portable audio devices have relatively low-powered outputs that are not able to adequately drive larger headphones. Most can drive these Sonys very well.
Some have complained about these headphones being prone to falling apart. I disagree. While mine have taken a beating, I've also taken them all over the place on my travels and used them heavily for years. From salty and humid tropical beaches to far too many airplane flights, these headphones have accompanied me. If you've worn out these headphones it's probably due to the fact that you've subjected these headphones to far more use than any previous headphone.
Lastly, these headphones are a bargain price. You can't easily find headphones this good under $100.
If you use personal audio devices or enjoy a lot of media while at the computer, do yourself a favor and order these headphones. They will open the detail of the music to you in a way that will pleasantly surprise you. To get anywhere near this quality of sound from desktop loudspeakers would require an investment many times the price of these headphones.

Noise cancelling mic, not speakers! The microphone seems very solid and well constructed, as does the whole headset. The microphone's audio quality on TeamSpeak so far as I've heard from my friends hearing me, leaves nothing to be desired. The microphone has a wide swing range so that you can swing it out of the way completely or position it in ideal relationship to your mouth.
At first when I bought these headphones they hurt my left ear quite a bit after about an hour of wearing them. After poking at the headphones a little bit I noticed that the left earpiece wasn't swivelling like the right earpiece. This was causing the headphone to press my ear back to my head, as the headphones have quite a snug fit. After some very strong "wiggling" on the left earpiece I heard a "snap" and the earpiece began to move freely (like the right.) Annoying that I had to do this, but the headphones no longer hurt my ear and really are quite comfortable (the most comfortable mid-size headphones I've owned.) So I'm happy!
Amazon's labelling of this product is a little misleading. It is not the headset that is noise cancelling, but the microphone. The headset is just a normal binaural headset. However, the noise cancelling microphone will be much appreciated by your TeamSpeak / VOIP friends!
The only gripe I have about this headset is that the inline volume control seems to dim the volume more out of the left ear than the right. This is a *slight* difference and only the most sensitive ears can hear it, but it is definitely there. For me, this makes the inline volume control only really useful for lowering the volume so that I can hear things going on around me. This is nice at work, where I have to talk to cooworkers throughout the day. In my opinion a headset in this price range should really have the impedence on inline volume figured out perfectly, but hey -- you can't have everything, especially not at this price!
That said, the inline mic mute works like a charm ;-)
Overall I am very satisfied with the PC150.
Best headset aroundThe headphones sound very good, the sound is a tad off perfect, but most people won't hear any difference between these and $1000+ studio speakers. The bass is low, deep and energetic, the highs are sharp, crisp and very detectable, the midtones are almost identical to the real sounds.
The noise-cancelling mic is very good, my online buddies in Unreal Tournament 2004 kept saying how well I sounded over voice chat, my voice was like in real life, crystal clear and no ambient noise at all. Great!
Ergonomics are very well done, the headset doesn't bother you, even when playing for a few hours. The long cable is a great idea, it's so refreshing to be able to stand up and grab something three feet away from your seat and not feel your headset cable pull you back like a dog leash. The clip-on volume control/mic mute is also a very smart addition.
These headphones aren't cheap, but well worth the price. This is a great headset for serious gamers, the only (very minor) issue that I can see as negative is the fact the headphones don't cancel noise, so if you turn up the volume above 80% (abnormal level) others can hear the sound coming out of them.
PC150 is the only way to go for serious gamers looking for a high-fidelity headset.
What a deal!

Good sound, but not very comfortableI can't give them a complete thumbs up because they're not very comfortable. Like all headphones that wrap around the back of your head, they rest on your ears. This would be fine if everyone's ears were the same shape, but they're not. After running for an hour with these on, they started to pinch. Also, if you've got the top of your ear pierced, like I do, you have to take out the earring. It's very painful otherwise. If you've got long hair, you have to put it up in order for the headphones to sit correctly on your ears. You also have to make sure that your ponytail doesn't repeatedly hit the back of your head when you exercise. Again, it's an issue of pinching.
To sum it up, if you've got short hair and are only going to be wearing these during periods of light activity like leisurely walking down the street, they're a sturdy, attractively priced option.
Tough and comfortable
Very nice headphones, but there is a downside to them! One thing that I saw other reviewers mention is the comfortability. Personally, I find these extremly comfortable and they don't slide around a bit. But like the other reviewer said, nobody has the exact same ears, so comfort is an entirly personal thing with these.
Probably one of the best things about these headphones is that they fold up into a nice little ball, and when the cord is wrapped around the two little plastic hoops, they store away easily and stay folded until you need them again. But, despite the praise, I only gave these headphones 4 out of 5 for the following two reasons.
1) The high and low sounds are as clear as day, but the middle sounds seem to blur together ever so slighty. Though not enough to be even the slightest of bothers, it's just a little thing that you will notice when you put these on the first time. But after a while you get used to it and it sounds just fine.
2) The wire on my pair seems to be getting damaged. After a year of use, a couple weeks ago I noticed that the sound was dropping all bass. I found the cause for this was that when the wire enters the headphone itself, the cord is slightly loose. Though the problem can be solved by adjusting the wire a littble bit, it is still an annoying little thing about these headphones.
Overall, if you are looking for a pair of headphones, and your budget is about $20, then I would definatly pick these up. But if you happen to have more money available, I'd suggest you search around a bit.

Excellent Small HeadphonesOn the plus side: Excellent range and dynamics, fast, accurate highs, and deep bass. In passages where the bass is very low, I can really feel the bass in the temples, which is surprising given the smallness of these phones. They fold down very small, and come with a nice hard plastic case, which protects them as I carry them to and from work in my soft briefcase. The case is a little smaller than a paperback book. These phones have also allowed me to hear parts of music that I have only been able to hear using my Sennheiser HD-500A (Circumaural, Open back, with a dynamic range of 50-32Khz) headphones.
On the minus side: The cord is relatively short, and several times I have accidentally turned my chair and unplugged the cord from my CD player while working at my desk. The headphones DO need a break-in period, and the bass will become deeper after some hours of playing.
One other important note: although these are not noise cancellation headphones, they do block out a lot of the exterior sound. They block more sound than any other other compact headphones I have listened to, and are closer to a closed back headphone in sound blockage than an open back headphone. They block more outside sound than my Sennheiser HD-500A full size open back phones.
Summation: For $50, you are probably not going to find a better sounding pair of compact headphones. If the cord were longer, I would rate these 5 out of 5.
Perfect headphonesI was a little worried that the small cups would limit sounds or not provide a closed headphone environment, but the PX200s didn't let me down. You do have to remember to wear them low on the ears. Very comfortable--a slight pinch on my big head after a while, but not bad at all. They block enough of the little distracting sounds, and I can turn my music up to levels that would destroy my hearing and my roommate still can't hear a thing.
I am listening through them while I type this. I am not sure if "breaking in" headphones is myth or not; however, the bass seems to sound even better than last week. Before the Sennheisers, I was using $40 sony headphones purchased from a local retailer, and I will never go back, nor let anyone I know get anything but Sennheisers. Try them and you'll be hooked.
a competent pair of phonesFor closed headphones they're pretty good, and I like closed headphones when I'm on the go because others wont bother me and I won't bother them. Otherwise open headphones (like the PX100 for example being a similar model) will generally sound better. Don't expect these to match fancier headphones like the HD580 or better from Sennheiser (or my Grado SR325s) but they are fairly good and if you expect no more than a nice pair of portable headphones with decent sound, they aren't likely to disappoint you.

Best Feature - Lifetime WarrantyWhy I like the PRO's better - 1) Metal Headband - I think the PRO's metal headband gives it a more snug fit. I also think this produces a better sound. You notice that all headphones kind of sound better when you press them against your head? Well this is what the KOSS metal headband does. Gives you that extra volume and bass that many other's have discuss in these reviews. 2) Thicker wire - from what I can tell, the PRO1's wire is a thinner gauge compared to the Pro. Another reason why the PRO's sound is a little better. 3) Better construction - including the metal headband, the headphone brace, and even the stereo plug, the PRO just seems to stronger structurally. I have owned at least one pair of each, and found the PRO1's quality to degrade quicker. After one year of daily use, the volume control became "touchy" and the headphone braces became less effective (they would slip off the headband).
Overall, these are much better than many other headphones on the market, especially given the price and lifetime warranty. I have sent these headphones back twice and only had to pay for shipping once ($6) and they were replaced no questions asked. Both times I received them back in less than 2 weeks (shipped to KOSS headquarters in Wisconson, not Japan), in one case they were replaced with a brand new pair of headphones! So, I would say go with the PRO's over the PRO1's, or even the Sporta-Pro's. But if you are comparing KOSS to some of the other brands out there, remember that the Pro1's have the lifetime warranty. This could the deal-breaker.
Excellent Headphones for the PriceI also really like the volume control on the cord, which makes adjusting the volume easer. I just turn the volume on the Walkman all the way up and use the cord control as my volume. Works like a charm.
These headphones of course are not perfect. They start to hurt my ears after wearing them for several hours, but I suppose that's to be expected. The ear padding isn't the best either. One more note on the bass response, I notice that I doesn't reproduce the really, really deep bass frequencies very well, but they are still somewhat auditable. Keep in mind I don't use any bass boost.
I've noticed that some people complain about these not lasting long, but I've had a pair of the KTX PRO (slightly older model, not KTX PRO 1) for about 2 years or so and they still work fine. I do take good care of them though, but I sometimes shove them in my bag to and from work and they've stood up fairly well. It would be nice if there were a case for them, but I can live without that.
Overall these are an excellent replacement for those cheep stock headphones that come with portable players and you can't go wrong with the price.

Studio Drummer: These are great !!The only negatives I can come up with are that they are heavy and adjustments of the position of the speakers on my ear are limited and cumbersome. Also, they will cause your ears to sweat after a long session and if your ears are sensitive to this you must let them breathe.
However, there must be tradeoffs, and the quality of these phones well outway the negatives. Don't buy them to jog with. They are not meant for that. However; if you want to emerse yourself into the music without outside sound interruptions these are the headphones for you. You can hear things you will never hear through your speaker system with these phones.
Hands down bang for the buck winner!!!As a teenager, these were the headphones to get, but I could not afford them and had to settle for a pair of Pioneer SE205's. What a thrill it is to finally purchase something that I always wanted as a youth!!
I have seen the complaints about the weight and yes they are heavy, but I think that is the trade off for having cans that will block out most of the external noise and sound this good. I'll just have to get used to them. (so will the other guys in the band since I purchased 4 sets)
If you are looking for a great set of studio headphones that won't break the bank, don't hesitate to buy the Pro4AA's.
Koss Pro4aa
I've had em for a day. Running a NAD C540 Cd-player, NAD C370 amplifier, with MIT terminator 2 interconnects. So far so good. The sound is a touch on the bright side, and particularly so with already bright recordings. This I hope will abate with sufficient burn-in time. Already the reproduction of voice and acoustic material is excellent in terms of clarity, and is convincingly natural. Some electronic and rock (police/masive attack) sound a little harsh in addition to the brightness. I'm betting that harshness will disappear soon.
Sound field on these has occassionally been staggering. Listen to Pink Floyd the wall another brick pt 2 about 3 mins 30s in--the kids in the play ground sound like they're about a foot outside your head!
My B&W 2000 speakers have better clarity, detail, and obviously sound staging. . . but I need to crank em to ear bleeding levels for that. . .hence the phones.
