These Cambridge Towers have great power. And they don't have that Frumpy speaker look. They look sheik and sound fabulous. Nice change from my old out-dated speakers. And the sound is terrific. I highly reccomend the CSW towers.

I love my Soundwokrs outdoors. They have crystal clear sound without costing an arm and a leg. If you are looking for speakers for the outdoors, Cambridge make great ones.

these speakers really make me feel like i am in the movie sometimes. my husband loves action movies and turns the volume way, way up, but i can really hear them even when they aren't at deafening levels! even good for music to.

I think Cambridge Towers are excellent speakers overall. Because they radiate from the front and the back, they provide a wide, deep, and slightly diffuse soundstage, relative to the best front-radiating speakers. Overall frequency response sounds quite smooth, and separation of individual instruments is very good. The bass goes fairly deep, but it is not as tight as with some speakers in the $1000 to $2000 price range. I supplement the bass with a Cambridge Soundworks BassCube 12 subwoofer, and the result is very satisfying. I currently drive my Towers with a Jolida 102B tube integrated amplifier. The combination is excellent. I basically forget the equipment and enjoy the music. Although the Jolida is rated at only 20 or so watts per channel, the Towers are efficient enough to play quite loud with the Jolida. Overall, I really like these speakers. They're nice to look at (mine are walnut, not black), relatively inexpensive, and sound really good without calling attention to themselves. I have owned a set of these speakers for awhile now. Their tonal quality is fantastic, and they do a great deal with whatever power they are given. Mine are driven by a TXDV838 Onkyo reciever, and mated with the E-76c center channel and a pair of E706 rear speakers. The set is voice matched for the utmost clarity in Home theater. These fellas can pump out the sound on there own though. Put them in a two channel setup and you can get some pretty good thump going, just not quite the same as a stand alone sub though. All in all these speakers have done everything I expected and more. They are a great buy for mid price home theater or just a kick @ss stereo system.

Performed to expectations with clean crisp sound. It came packaged well and was a great addition to my system.

Thi Cerwin Vega HTS-12 offers excellent performance for the price. I directly compared it to the very highly rated Velodyne models, but decided that the sound difference wasn't worth double the price. The Velodyne does handle the *very* low (sub <25 Hz) frequencies a little better - while the HTS12 does begin to sound just a tad muddy. But, it is just a very little difference... and only the hard core audiophiles out there would really be bothered by it.

Since getting this sub, I've put it throught it through a battery of movie and music tests while trying to get the volume and crossover frequency just right. You need to try and adjust the volume and crossover so that it blends in with the rest of your system, and doesn't overpower it. Expect to spend several hours doing this (in fact, unless you're using some sort of test equipment - and not just doing it by 'sound') you'll likely be tweaking the volume level for weeks!

Here's how powerful this sub is: After giving it a good break-in period, I decided to really try it out... I put in the scene from the matrix where the helicopter flys into the side of the building (lots of great explosions). My wife was outside, on the far side of the house, listening to music on a portable stereo. when I did this. Aftwards, I walked outside and she said to me "Wow... I don't see any clouds... but I just heard a ton of thunder!"

Pros:
-Excellent, deep bass
-Good defined sound (not really 'boomy')
-Auto on/off feature works excellently
-Price
-Looks good

Cons:
-Not quite as clean as the velodyne (but hey - half the price!)
-Like any other 12" sub, this thing is big... if you're trying to hide it - you're in for a chore.

I have been into surround sound for about 6 years now, my aging 5.1 Onkyo 939 Bose AM10 system which is still a great sounding solution. However, I thought I would give a media PC system with a projector a try. I purchased the Gigaworks system to support the sound combined with the Creative Audigy 7.1 card and I was not disappointed. The EX surround really excels in a large room giving clear separation of the surround sound channels. The newer movies like Master and Commander really take advantage of the 7.1 channels to move the sounds around the boat which you feel like you are in. The sound is a bit softer and more realistic than the Onkyo, more like the Yamaha sound that many love. The base is way too much (police would be at the door from neighbors complaining) at the normal setting but is easily set to a comfortable level with the wireless remote. I really enjoy listening to music on the system since the sound level can be set low, yet due to the many speakers around the room it can be easily and clearly heard. Throw in Norah Jones on DVD on the XGA projector and man! it is like you are really there watching the sweat run down her face and hearing every sound as clearly as if you are in the room; does not get better than this; like - save your money, no need to attend any more concerts!!! Even my wife (who is normally anti surround sound) loves the surround system projector combo and has given it her official "best thing you ever did" seal of approval.

Pros: Easy wiring setup (color coded), wireless remote, great sound, low cost compared to standard surround systems, plenty of power, low distortion at high volume settings, heat produced low compared to other systems.
Cons: The volume display shows 5 green led bars that do not give a good indication of the volume level. Wires included a bit short, you will need extensions for most rooms.

I also have the Logitech Z5300 5.1 speakers which are good for my gaming PC, but not really in the same category as the Gigaworks.

I'm a big fan of hearing every detail in what I'm listening, especially, when it comes to first person/network video games and music. I had the Altec Lansing AVS200 before these and they were great. I actually hosted 50+ people party with theses and they did the job. However, I wanted something more then these. So I shopped around a couple of places. I tested the Cyber Acoustics CA-15 and they were just a little bit better. Logitech had too many problems with their speakers. After reading up and getting these speakers for cheap. I saw no turning back. These speakers are made from quality products. You can tell by the frame that holds up the satellites and remote. I have a friend that has the Logitech and they do not look as nice as these. You can hook up both speakers to the walls. Some people noted a draw back with the highs and lows. 1st, if you have a good audio card you can maneuver around this issue. If you are on a budget and want great sounding speakers made well, go with Creative Labs Sound Blaster SBS230 Speakers.
I listened to U2's Achtung Baby and was surprised it picked up every layer of sound, especially the small compressed sounds. Go to different shops and tests all the speakers. Then check price. Chances are in sound they'll come second and in price first. I'll recommend these to anyone. .... --This text refers to an alternate option .
