I wanted a home theater speaker system, that was good with movies and music too! I listened to Polk 6700 speakers (very good) JBL 160 (nice) Energy 5.2 (very nice) Athena (ok+) and Wharfedale Movie Star 70's (awesome)! The biggest difference was the music end of the spectrum! All of the mentioned systems were very good to excellent for movie/tv viewing, but ranged from good, to adequate, to so-so on music! Except the Wharfedales, which were excellent for theater use, and awesome on music, probably due to the fact they are a bit larger than most! No tubby lower midrange, or ear bleeding, thin highs! Bass was rendered very well too! A great value, and they are decor freindly.

I purchased these speakers just because i wanted some music outside for cheap money. I am so impressed with the sound. I originally was going to go with the infinity outrigger but didn't want to spend the money. I'm glad I didn't. These speakers perform well over my expectations.

These stands come with spikes and screw on pads depending on your floor type. Great build quality.

I don't know why the Yamaha Ystms30B is cheaper than Ystms30W. The only difference I can tell is color, right? And seems nobody ever bought the black ones.

Pros: The best sound available in a "micro" system. Small size, elegant style.

Cons: Poorly designed remote control.

Summary: When I got to the store, I listened to anything in this price range and nothing came close to producing the clear, crisp sound of the Yamaha. I expected the Denon/Mission systems to be great, based on the reputation of those brands, but was quite disappointed with the flat, unremarkable sound they produced.
There was one Sony system that included a small subwoofer for about the same $400 price as the Yamaha, but it had a trendy vertical-loading CD player that didn't look as though it was made to last.

The Yamaha on the other hand, produces the beautiful sound I expected from the Denon/Mission stereos and combined it with timeless, sturdy design and construction. I am not a music aficianado, and even I was amazed at the clear superiority of the Yamaha's sound compared to anything else in the store.

When I set it up at home, I was impressed by the "screw post" speaker connections, additional built-in AC outlet for plugging in additional components, and solid contruction quality.

The only drawback is a remote control where every button feels the same to your fingertips and nothing is spread out enough to make it easy to navigate without looking at it. After 8 months, I can now handle it fairly well, but it's about 10 years behind the remote from my old Aiwa stereo.

The sound, as I've said, is beautiful. Acoustic music sounds as if it is being played right there in the room, and amplified music comes across far cleaner than I've ever heard.

The only drawback is a lack of the thumping bass you can get from less expensive systems. I've recently added a Yamaha subwoofer for $150 and it has definitely taken care of that slight drawback. Overall, a nice looking unit based on quality engineering with excellent sound reproduction, rather than trendy design.

Good speakers for the price. I highly recommend them.

three way small bookshelf speakers...!! have mercy. and yamaha known as a top speaker name too. they replaced some small radio shack jobs i had in my small condo here,not having any room for my former four advents, long gone. these speakers are just smooth sounding as you can get, just so easy on the ears too. you will hear parts of music you may not have heard before if you have older speakers. small and light, easy to place, perfect for a small place, but the sound is quite big, even when cranking up the volume! with a couple of decent rear surrounds they make for great sound. highly recommend them. plus they got here days earlier from amazon than scheduled. great service too.

Here it's sold as one. You will need two of them. Anyway, I got these on sale without really being in the market for new speakers and they are just great. They sound real nice but I would recommend pairing them with a subwoofer if you like deep bass. The bass from the speakers alone could be a little better. Great sounding though and definitely worth the price.

I own a pair of these speakers and am very pleased with their performance. They are "crystal" clear in the higher frequencies. A subwoofer complements them well. During playback of jazz, 80's rock, and techno, I was suprised at how well the speaker held on without distortion. WHAT A GREAT PAIR OF SPEAKERS! Pick your genre of music, and grab a pair of these speakers, you wont be disappointed.

This review is based on someone who doesn't necessarily have to get the most up to date and expensive sound system. I mainly purchased this as a decent all in one sound system to go with my PS2/DVD and VCR. I had used the VS-10 by itself and it had decent sound. The virtual sound option was pretty nice. However the addition of the NXSW10 to the VS-10 made a word of difference. First is the bass. The subwolfer gave an excellent 3D sound and feel. Second, the satellite speakers drowned my room with sound. Very nice. Third, the entire system was very easy to use and setup with my TV and other electronic equipment. DVD movies sound very nice with multiple sound options from theater quality 5.1 to mono-stereo (if that will really need to be used). Regarding the PS2 use, Armored Core 2 is a good example of pulling out with this system can do. Very nice indeed. If someone is considering to purchase the VS-10 then I highly recommend the NXSW10 to go with it.
