Good Speakers
I got my speakers about a month ago. Mainly I go them for the iPod. They have amazing sound quality. For speakers so small the sound is amazingly crisp and clear. The bass is good, but a little unclear when turned up to maximum power. (It takes some adjusting on the subwoofer to get the bass right.) The little lights under the speakers provide for a nice little effect. Overall I think they were a good buy. I would have given them 4 stars except for the problem that I had with them when first bought. They worked for about 2 days and then one day the speakers decided to play full-blast all the time, and I couldn't turn them down. Luckily the product was still in warranty, and I was able to get new ones. So far these new ones have been great and have no problems.

JBL Creatures are In a League of Their Own
Ok, these aren't the only computer speakers that can provide amazing sound, but considering you have to spend another $100 to find something that is even close should make your buying decision pretty easy.

I only bought these speakers from amazon.com for their amazing price, but I would never purchase speakers without hearing them first. After about a month of looking I was able to narrow my speaker choice down to two speaker systems, "BOSE MediaMate" two-piece system (for $99) and the "Klipsch ProMedia 2.1" system (for $169), the JBL Creatures weren't one of my choices because I was ignorant and thought they were too ugly considering I am not an apple owner.

The Klipsch system blew me away with it's powerful bass and clear satellites. I was immediately blown away again when I heard the clarity of the Bose speakers, which made a mockery of the Klipsch satellites. This is great right?, except for the fact that the Bose system does not include a seperate sub which meant that the bass, although clear, was not very strong.

If only I could find a speaker system that combined the bass of the Klipsch and the clarity of the Bose system for a reasonable price...

In case you didn't get the idea, the JBL Creatures were the solution to my problem. As I was walking down the aisle of my local...store I heard the JBL creatures playing the new James Bond movie. Wow. Ever since then I knew that the JBL's were the best choice for my college dorm, and that was for $130 dollars in the stores. Considering Amazon.com has them for less..., you would have to be stupid or deaf to not pick up a pair of these amazing speakers.

This price is a STEAL for these speakers!!
WOW!!! These speakers are the best I have ever owned by far! They blow the little tinny sounding speakers on my ibook away!!!! The JBL Creature Speakers might be small (the satalites) but they sure are LOUD! My only problem with these speakers are the subwolfer is too big on my desk, and I don't have any room on my floor for it.

Watching DVD's with these babies are just like being in the theater! GREAT BASS! I love the lights under the two satalites, nice touch!

Playing CD's, mp3's, AAC's, and games with these are a pleasure! I especially love turning up the volume (with the touch sensitive buttons on the left satalite) when I'm playing games on my computer (such as Starcraft!) and enjoying being emmersed into the game! The sound is very crisp and clear, no muffled sound.

These speakers are worth every little penny I paid for them! My speakers arrived the next day, and I was so excited to get them out of the box and try them!

I also use these with my ipod...AWESOME!

astounding!!
These speakers are awesome!! Great sound, booming bass, loud as can be, and all for around $100. I spent 3 weeks looking for speakers ... reading reviews and checking specs. When i thought i had it narrowed down to 3 different sets i went down to the computer store to give them all a listen. (klipsh 2.1 pro, jbl creature, harmon kardon soundsticks)... the only of the 3 that were even close to what i wanted was the klipsh 2.1(they sounded great) but were out of stock... Then i saw the logitech's... similar specs, same wattage and actually a bit cheaper!! woo hoo!! I got them home set them up and was blown away!! They can handle heavy bass with no distortion... they are clear and did i mention LOUD!! They can easily fill a room for a party...i wasted no time checking out how they would handle everything from drum&bass to slayer.. as well as throwing in a dvd. I am a bit of an audiophile and would recomend these 100%. BUY THEM-you won't be dissapointed.

Holy Cow...
These speakers are... downright incredible. After reading so many positive reviews I thought "Of course, I'll be the one to get a screwed up set". Man was I wrong. I woke the Friday after ordering these to the UPS guy dropping the box off at my door... which I didn't mind, I had been waiting anxiously for these to arrive all week. So after hauling the speaker box into my room I unpacked everything (I had trouble getting the damned heavy subwoofer out of the styrofoam) and went to work. After a few short minutes I had everything set up and positioned just right. I made sure to turn the sub and the volume down (after hooking up a car amp and almost blowing my eardrums I'm very careful about that now) and powered everything up. I went through a couple MP3s... nice nice, very clean sound. Not super detailed on the high end, but very crisp. I played with the sub woofer level (which is on the wired remote... which I *love*. My previous speakers I had to reach behind my sub to adjust this) and found that right in the middle was a good spot for it. Okay, good. Opened the volume control and upped the treble a little bit, helping to compensate for the slight lack thereof from the speakers. Fun!

Okay, now time for some games.(...) This is my main purpose for the computer, thus the main purpose for the speakers. Nice, rich sound and clarity... good bass level. Correction... *VERY* good bass level considering you have the control at your fingertips. And the 8" speaker can more than handle you pushing it to the full of its abilities. In any first person shooter type game, or any MMORPG game, this speaker set more than does justice to the sounds of any game.

I watched a demo movie to a game that's not released yet... and it filled me entire room with near theater quality sound and presence. This is, by far, the "most bang for your buck" purchase as far as speakers go. (...)

Amazing.
These speakers are outstanding. I looked around Amazon for a while and read reviews, and as everybody else has said, "I put them on 1/4 of the way up, and theyre very loud". The sound quality is excellent and the design is very sleek. The remote control is very handy to have because it allows total customization of your listening experience. Turn the bass up for some songs then easily turn it back down for others. I used to have a Logitech 640 set but these are much better. A high quality 2.1 system is definitely better than a low or medium quality 5.1 system. This purchase was surely worth the money.

    Great system
Pros: Great sound. Like a previous customer said, these speakers don't over modulate when you turn it waaay up. Also, the sound is deceptive; I had my music playing at a low level but because of the sub woofer my neghbor (I live in an apartment) said he could hear it in his living room.
The Subwoofer is nigh indestructible! I mean it is like one big metal box with an amp in the back. It sounds great too when I am bumpin' that Pastor Troy and T.I.
    THX certified.
Remote to control the different speakers.
set up was straightforward and pretty self explanatory.

Cons: Remote is not wireless, which for me would have been a plus since i like to listen to my music collection on the computer while I am playing video games across the room. That's the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. However, that may not be a problem for other gamers who use their pc to play games, which I don't do much.

Summary: Also there is a "matrix" feature which creates a full surround sound effect from cd's and games that don't have a 5.1 soundtrack which is also cool. All in all it is a great system, especially at $150. Even with the remote problem (which is minor) I am glad I chose this system. I also just ordered the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Sound Card because the reviewers for that say it increases the sound experience even more; so I have GOT to check that out.

What can I say? Awesome speakers
I just bought this baby last week, man, the speakers blew me away. I had the 2.1 Altec Lansing speakers with the on-board sound card and I thought it sounds good already. But then I decided to upgrade to THX system, so I went out and bought this Z-5300 speakers and I also bought the Sound Blaster THX Audigy 2 sound card. The setup was a breeze, all color coded. The only thing took time was that I want to setup the surround sound correctly, so I had to run all the wires along the wall (you will need to buy extra extension RCA cables because the rear speakers cable weren't long enough. I bought the 25 feet extension rca stereo cables at Fry's for $10 and split them into 2 because the rear speakers each only uses 1 single rca wire). After all the speakers setup and software installed for the SB sound card, I cranked this baby up (the SB Audigy 2 supports both THX and DVD-Audio) with the sample dvd-audio came with the sound card. Boy oh boy, I have to say "WOW". What a different it make, I would say the Logitech speakers sound as good as my JBL/Infiniti 6.1 speakers home theater system in my living room, or it even sounds cleaner because of the THX. The bass output of the sub is awesome, I didn't even turn the volume to half and it actually shakes my wall and windows. After the dvd-audio testing, I was so impressed with the speakers, I then put in the Terminator 2 movie with THX sound, holy ... (I also have the Nvidia GeForce 4200 Ti 128 mb of ram with the TV-out to my 27' tv), I thought I was sitting in the movie theater. So, if you decide to buy this baby, I would also suggest to you that get a good THX sound card like the SB Audigy 2 THX, it is well worth it.

    What a package
These speakers really have made me enjoy my music alot more. I used to have a 2.1 speaker system that had came with my computer, and the bass just wasn't what it should be. So i decided to go and buy these. The sound quality of the voices is so much clearer and crisper. Not to mention the subwoofer is the size of a 15 inch t.v it delivers amazing bass. i've even used these speakers to play on my xbox, since it comes with an adapter to use on tv's and such. There isn't many speakers out here that can cost this little and give such good quality. I highly recommend these speakers if you are going to use them for gaming on your computer. It gives you such a different effect, i even mounted the back two to my ceiling since they are able to rotate and have holes for you to mount them.

    Would you expect any less?
Basically, it's about time that Bose Corporation decided to extend their technology into the PC market. The separation of highs and lows on these speakers are no different than that of any other Bose speaker, which is more than enough reason to find yourself as an owner of several pairs. Bose has always manufactured their products to a completely different standard. I'm pleased to report that the Media Mate speakers are no exception to what you would expect from this company. These do not have incredible bass response but I find low end to be very unnecessary, unless of course your PC will be used as your primary source of digital entertainment. Other speakers are available that deliver low end, such as the Creative Labs 5.1 series, but the properties of sound are quite different if you were to place the Media Mate next to any PC speakers equipped with subwoofers. It all depends on what is most important to you - clarity or being able to feel every last beat through your speakers. Personally, I've found many speakers (and I've purchased several over the years) to have quite a bit of distortion at moderate to high volume, and the Bose Media Mate seems to have eliminated this factor entirely. These speakers are made so YOU can hear the music clearly, not your neighbors, which is how it should be in the first place.

    WOW - NEED I SAY MORE!!! :)
WOW - that's really what it comes down to. These speakers are absolutly the best. They have rich, deep, and powerful bass, while still having great sound. These sound almost like a mini -BOSE home theater system. They sound better than all of the 5 piece computer speaker sets combined! The price is also VERY good. I mean for $$$ bucks, how could you go wrong? The BEST, highly recomended speakers. I have had this speakers for about 2 months, and have tryed them on every device that I have in the house. From my Compaq 1800T notebook computer, to my Compaq iPAQ 3955, to my Sony TV and Mini-system, to my XBOX, these speakers sound awesome. This rating should be 10 out of 5 stars! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK BOSE!!!!!!!!

..if you think I know nothing about speakers you are wrong. I do know a lot about them, and I know the sound on the mediamates could be a bit more clear, but that is for music. I am 100% sure you have never tested Bose Mediamates with movies or games. I tell you right now that no 2.1 speakers that cost less than $125, rivals the sound of the Mediamates with movies and games. They will just have more voluem and bass, but the Mediamates are more than enough in volume. Why cant any of you accept that these are the best 2.0 speakers? And dont you think that the best in a category has to be more expensive? Gosh..

Altec Lansing ACS48 Speakers Rock My Socks
...This review is for the Altec Lansing ACS48 speaker set....

These speakers are amazing. They've got huge sound, and high quality at that, in a relatively small package. I'd ding them one star for some usability issues (shortish cord between the small speakers, no easily-accessible headphone jack, volume controls don't give a visual indication of level, lack of sufficient magnetic shielding on the subwoofer (it can't go near a monitor, but a few inches away from the computer case is fine), [poor] mfr carton (though the styrofoam packing is good)), but the sound more than makes up for it. There's no hum to speak of when the speakers are sitting idle, and the full range of sound is crisp and clear, even at volumes high enough to be heard in the other end of the house, with no distortion or muddy or tinny qualities. If your computer speakers double as your stereo, these are definitely worth the money (and you can get them fairly cheaply at auction these days). Two inputs allow you to hook them up to both your computer and a discman or TV or other device, so you can use them for more than just computing, and with the computer off. Our set has been going strong for 3 years so far, and I'm considering getting another set to use as "home theater" speakers (until we can afford a really nice Bose package or something).

Best bang for your buck... and then some!
I've had these for quite a few years now, bought them for around $50 or $60 at the time, and never once have they failed me. They're extremely powerful and loud... louder than you'll probably ever need. For the price, there are absolutely no better speakers out there. They're worth double or triple what they sell for now. They sound awesome with all types of music, which is very important. From techno to hard rock to classical, they're just that good. Everything sounds how it should, and I'm really picky. Get these and you won't be disappointed. I also hook them up to my TV for my Playstation 2 and it definitely gives everything a boost. The only thing I can complain about is that the cords between the two satellite speakers is slightly short, there's barely 4 feet or so between them I believe. Other than that, if you're thinking of getting these, don't hesitate.

Good for the price
Considering the outrageous prices for speakers these days, I decided to go with these and am not disapointed. The sound quality is excellent, and the set up was harmless. I currently have it hooked up to my computer, but have also used it with my TV and CD player.

The only quabble I have is the volume control. It's placed in the far back of the right speaker, which is hard to reach sometimes. It's also a knob, which is awkward to control horizontally (knobs are meant to be on a vertical plane). Personally I would've preferred a thumb control.

Otherwise, these are excellent speakers for the price.

    These Speakers Are Good But...
I just bought these speakers within the last week, and I simply can not give this product five stars. I actually bought this speaker system for my brother, and I currently am using an Altec Lansing ACS48 system, which is also sold at Amazon.

Obviously, I can not compare a 117 dollar system to 30 dollar system. But I just would like to say that with the rebate, the Yamaha speakers can not be beat. But, you pay for what you get. There is only 30 total watts, therefore the bass sure as heck wont shake your room, but it is adequate. On the other hand, the mid and high range is excellent, considering the size of the satellite speakers. If you want phat BASS, I would not recommend these speakers. I personally love tons of bass, and I found that an 18 watt subwoofer definitely has its limits.

Mainly overall, these are great if you refuse to spend more than 100 dollars. But if you have the money, buy a better system and you will understand how much of a difference there is, especially with the low range sounds. If you want lots of bass, go get an altec or any other system with more than 70 watts in total power.

I used to have once, b4 the desktop stereo
I have this 3-pieces set, cost me 69.99 b4 rebate, once I set up and play on my CD walkman first, yes! this is a good set for the price, deep, no boomy bass, clear mid and treble, but somehow the mid-high sounds a little bit awful
this set is much better than any 3-peices set I had till I got JVC desktop stereo+Sony woofer, then I gave away, and they says this speaker set sounds very good
