Good Speakers
JBL Creatures are In a League of Their OwnI only bought these speakers from amazon.com for their amazing price, but I would never purchase speakers without hearing them first. After about a month of looking I was able to narrow my speaker choice down to two speaker systems, "BOSE MediaMate" two-piece system (for $99) and the "Klipsch ProMedia 2.1" system (for $169), the JBL Creatures weren't one of my choices because I was ignorant and thought they were too ugly considering I am not an apple owner.
The Klipsch system blew me away with it's powerful bass and clear satellites. I was immediately blown away again when I heard the clarity of the Bose speakers, which made a mockery of the Klipsch satellites. This is great right?, except for the fact that the Bose system does not include a seperate sub which meant that the bass, although clear, was not very strong.
If only I could find a speaker system that combined the bass of the Klipsch and the clarity of the Bose system for a reasonable price...
In case you didn't get the idea, the JBL Creatures were the solution to my problem. As I was walking down the aisle of my local...store I heard the JBL creatures playing the new James Bond movie. Wow. Ever since then I knew that the JBL's were the best choice for my college dorm, and that was for $130 dollars in the stores. Considering Amazon.com has them for less..., you would have to be stupid or deaf to not pick up a pair of these amazing speakers.
This price is a STEAL for these speakers!!Watching DVD's with these babies are just like being in the theater! GREAT BASS! I love the lights under the two satalites, nice touch!
Playing CD's, mp3's, AAC's, and games with these are a pleasure! I especially love turning up the volume (with the touch sensitive buttons on the left satalite) when I'm playing games on my computer (such as Starcraft!) and enjoying being emmersed into the game! The sound is very crisp and clear, no muffled sound.
These speakers are worth every little penny I paid for them! My speakers arrived the next day, and I was so excited to get them out of the box and try them!
I also use these with my ipod...AWESOME!

- Bass port for full sound
- Volume controls for both the entire system and the subwoofer
- Headphone jack
- Wired remote
- Pedestals rotate easily for wall mounting or desk placement

astounding!!
Holy Cow...Okay, now time for some games.(...) This is my main purpose for the computer, thus the main purpose for the speakers. Nice, rich sound and clarity... good bass level. Correction... *VERY* good bass level considering you have the control at your fingertips. And the 8" speaker can more than handle you pushing it to the full of its abilities. In any first person shooter type game, or any MMORPG game, this speaker set more than does justice to the sounds of any game.
I watched a demo movie to a game that's not released yet... and it filled me entire room with near theater quality sound and presence. This is, by far, the "most bang for your buck" purchase as far as speakers go. (...)
Amazing.

Great systemThe Subwoofer is nigh indestructible! I mean it is like one big metal box with an amp in the back. It sounds great too when I am bumpin' that Pastor Troy and T.I.
THX certified.
Remote to control the different speakers.
set up was straightforward and pretty self explanatory.
Cons: Remote is not wireless, which for me would have been a plus since i like to listen to my music collection on the computer while I am playing video games across the room. That's the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. However, that may not be a problem for other gamers who use their pc to play games, which I don't do much.
Summary: Also there is a "matrix" feature which creates a full surround sound effect from cd's and games that don't have a 5.1 soundtrack which is also cool. All in all it is a great system, especially at $150. Even with the remote problem (which is minor) I am glad I chose this system. I also just ordered the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Sound Card because the reviewers for that say it increases the sound experience even more; so I have GOT to check that out.

altec dont crank emunfortunatly at high volume playing they seem to pop the mids speakers and i have had trouble with the switch on the sub it has shorted out so i must now tear it apart and repair it so i am back to one set for now all in all good set of speakers though i got three years out of the first set which is good for me i like the wooden sub box better than plastic
Altec Lansing ACS48 Speakers Rock My SocksThese speakers are amazing. They've got huge sound, and high quality at that, in a relatively small package. I'd ding them one star for some usability issues (shortish cord between the small speakers, no easily-accessible headphone jack, volume controls don't give a visual indication of level, lack of sufficient magnetic shielding on the subwoofer (it can't go near a monitor, but a few inches away from the computer case is fine), [poor] mfr carton (though the styrofoam packing is good)), but the sound more than makes up for it. There's no hum to speak of when the speakers are sitting idle, and the full range of sound is crisp and clear, even at volumes high enough to be heard in the other end of the house, with no distortion or muddy or tinny qualities. If your computer speakers double as your stereo, these are definitely worth the money (and you can get them fairly cheaply at auction these days). Two inputs allow you to hook them up to both your computer and a discman or TV or other device, so you can use them for more than just computing, and with the computer off. Our set has been going strong for 3 years so far, and I'm considering getting another set to use as "home theater" speakers (until we can afford a really nice Bose package or something).

Good for the priceThe only quabble I have is the volume control. It's placed in the far back of the right speaker, which is hard to reach sometimes. It's also a knob, which is awkward to control horizontally (knobs are meant to be on a vertical plane). Personally I would've preferred a thumb control.
Otherwise, these are excellent speakers for the price.
These Speakers Are Good But...Obviously, I can not compare a 117 dollar system to 30 dollar system. But I just would like to say that with the rebate, the Yamaha speakers can not be beat. But, you pay for what you get. There is only 30 total watts, therefore the bass sure as heck wont shake your room, but it is adequate. On the other hand, the mid and high range is excellent, considering the size of the satellite speakers. If you want phat BASS, I would not recommend these speakers. I personally love tons of bass, and I found that an 18 watt subwoofer definitely has its limits.
Mainly overall, these are great if you refuse to spend more than 100 dollars. But if you have the money, buy a better system and you will understand how much of a difference there is, especially with the low range sounds. If you want lots of bass, go get an altec or any other system with more than 70 watts in total power.
I used to have once, b4 the desktop stereothis set is much better than any 3-peices set I had till I got JVC desktop stereo+Sony woofer, then I gave away, and they says this speaker set sounds very good
