Very good for the price!
Although very cheap, these speakers deliver great value! Crystal clear audio and great bass, these speakers are perfect for just about any use. The Corded remote makes ajdusting the volume easily acessible. The power switch is a little smaller, and more out of the way, but you can get used to it. To experience the full 4.1 surround sound, you need to have a creative sound card, or one that supports the 4 chanel output. otherwise you're limited to 2 front speakers. Overall, its a fairly decent set of speakers, and very good for the price!

this 4.1 surround sound speaker systemis awsome!!
if you want every dollar to count go for this 4.1 surround sound system. I searched best buy and circuit city for an adaquate surround system for under $65... could only find 2.1 for $50. so i went to walmart and saw this 4.1 surround system. wat do u think when you purchase any electronics at walmart? no so great, 66watts didn't seem so great to share between 4 speakers and a sub huh? hahaha well i was wrong i use this to play all my music (ditched my sterio) my games and any other multimedia experience. the sub delivers clear and sharp frequencies and the the speakers deliver clear sharp sound... don't hesitate you can't to wrong. also the adjustable master volume is very useful for adjusting volume without having to click on ur desktop... love it, wat more can i say

by the way this i am using a 16 sound card... wait till i get my new sound blaster 24 bit!! ")

Superb Sound Quality! Highly Recommended!
When I got a new computer several months ago, with DVD compatability, I got rid of my television. Now I only watch movies on the computer. But the speakers which came with the computer were horrible to say the least.

When I finally purchased this particular speaker system, I was amazed at the sound quality. I'm not an electronics guru or anything like that, so I am easily intimidated by stuff like this. But the setup was very easy, straightforward, and self-explanatory. Very little instruction was required. One thing which was required (and is not included in the package) was a Y-plug. This may be required for most computers. If you end up needing one and don't have one, you can still enjoy quality sound from two of the four speakers. But Y-plugs are very inexpensive.

I highly recommend this system.

B'Boooooom.......
This was, quite virtually, an 'impulse' buy.....I had been wanting an INEXPENSIVE subwoofer that I could use to reinforce only the bottom octave in my project studio (digital multitrack, so forth). My Alesis powered monitors tried their best to portray the bottom end, but my mixes almost always came out way too boomy, when played back on other systems, on in a car. So, I ordered this, knowing I'd probably have to stuff the cabinet on arrival, according to almost every other reviewer I'd read. Taking the driver and the amp module out was no problem; lo and behold, there was the "power puff sized" piece of fiberfill that several others had described....totally ineffective. The sub cabinet is actually particle board, NOT medium density fibreboard (MDF), as described.....it would be notably heavier, and way less resonant if it were. Anyway, after lining the cabinet walls with some left over Auralex (egg crate foam would work just as well, and be a LOT cheaper!), I loosely stuffed the cabinet with dacron fiber fill(this, in effect, causes the driver to "see" a slightly larger cabinet than actually is there, so long as you don't over-stuff it). I used speaker caulk (a black rope caulk) to re-seal both the driver, and the amp module, and TADA! Not bad at all! I'm running the crossover somewhere around 50Hz, and with corner-loading this little jewel, I've got the volume set no higher than one fourth. After about an hour of demoing about a dozen various CD's, I was able to blend the AudioSource and the Alesis monitors pretty well. It's every bit as "forward" sounding as my Klipsch sub on my home theatre system, and honestly, not nearly as "tubby". BOTTOM LINE IS THIS: For well less than [money], a bit of acoustic foam and spray glue, you can't beat it. Don't drive it wide open, and it should perform just fine. I'm very satisfied with it.

Filled that hole
I've been in the market for awhile to get a sub for my home theather project, wanting the best sound i could afford. Having purchased everything separately, the BOSE 301'S AND the smaller Bose surround speakers still did,nt cut it until i purchased this monster now i've filled that hole or void, it really brought everything together, it cranks...when i opened the box there was some damage to one of the top corners, checked it out anyway, liked it, called amazon back with my disappointment they gave me 50.00 back, it works great, sounds ausum can't even see the slight damage because of the placement pleased all around.excellent product.

Excellent Subwoofer
I purchase this subwoofer at the Friday Sale when my KLH 8-inch woofer died after 2 1/2 years of service. All I can say is WOW! The sound difference is incredible, with the lows now thundering. Don't worry, purchase and you won't have any regrets.

AWE-inspiring! Incredible sound!
I purchased a pair of these speakers with a JBL 12" sub and I'll have to say that my music never sounded so good. The resolution and presence is incredible!
As for movies, the depth charges in U-571 just about blew out our windows.

Great speakers at an incredible value!
These are by far the best speakers for the money. I paid $450 for the pair delivered and they sound incredible. I have the all JBL Studio series speakers running through an Onkyo 701 home theater receiver -- what a combinaton. They sound great for both movies and music! I highly recommend these speakers.

Phenomenal Speakers for this price piont...
The clarity and definition of the sound from these speakers is favorable over most anything at this price piont. You may even be able to find these for a little less if you search around online. The build and construction is top notch and each speakers comes in at around 50lbs. I do suggest that you purchase a separate sub in order to get that room shaking base you'd want in a quality home theater. The base is adequate for basic easy listening but doesn't catch the awe-inspiring "thump" that you'd want in some of your favorite action movie soundtracks. But pair these up with an effective sub and you're in for pure audio enjoyment. If you're looking to eliminate the sub option, you might want to look at getting the S412 with a 200-watt powered woofer section.

A Wonderful Book Shelf Speaker
As most audiophiles know the B&W brand of speakers is one of the finest money can buy (within reason). Although I did not purchase my DM601s through Amazon.com, I did however want to share the experiences that I have had with the product. The DM601 are the most "dramatic" book shelf speakers that I have heard in a very long time. The richness in the lower frequencies are quite astonishing even with the small size. The mid range is about average, and if you like listening to top 40 music I think that JBL S series is a little better for about the same price. But for the price and the prestige of owning a pair or B&Ws this is a good entry point. I use these for my rear channel speakers and they do quite well. They could be used as mains, but you might not get the desired effect. The bass is there but the mids are just a little flat. Over all, the DM601 is a very solid performer. If rap is what you like these are the best that money could buy for the price.

B & W Series 8100 Speaker Systems
They're undoubtedly the most accurate sound reproducers in existence. All sound forms are faithfully transfered from the source to your ears through these magnificent systems -- spoken words, "spoken" music forms like rap and operatic, classical and light contemporary, jazz -- even the finger tip movements on the piano keys are there, just like they'd be with the best seats in the house. We need more information re how to find these wonderful life-enhancers and how to best retrieve them for our component audio and video systems. If you can find them, listen to these babies!

Excellent sound for a decent price!
All too often, I think consumers assume that getting more for less is a good thing. In stereo systems, and especially speakers, this isn't necessarily true. I bought my B&W 601s two weeks ago at a specialty store nearby, and I absolutely love them. They produce a very well-rounded sound, including a decent amount of bass for bookshelf speakers. $400 is about $50 cheaper than most stores would have them for, and well worth the price.

Good sound for little money
I got these speakers about a month and a half ago. I really like their bass reflex. The sound comes out clean every time. I use these for DJing all over college. They get the job done and fit very well into my budget. They have given me everything I needed and show no sign of failing me any time soon. If you need [low-priced] speakers for any reason, home or public, these are the speakers for you.

Best deal for your money hands down!
I have tried a number of comparable speakers and these are by far the best deal for your money. You will not find a better speaker for under three-hundredanywhere. The subwoofers pump out more bass than I've ever seen on a home speaker system. The bass is clear and tight like it should be. You don't hear the music, so much as you feel it. The dual tweeters produce good highs and do a good job keeping up with the subs as you increase the volume. Most larger speakers sound terrible at low volumes but these do not distort when underpowered. The 94 decible sensitivity is also a bonus, as i power these off of a normal 100 watt per channel reciever yet they still produce crystal clear tones at thunderous volumes. The construction is very sturdy and looks like it could withstand a tornado. The only beef I have with these speakers is that the metal grille keeps flyin off of the sub every time i pump it up really loud, but then again they look more badass with exposed subs anyways.

awesome power and sound
very well balanced sound...i hear depth to music that i have never before noticed. these speakers are incredibly loud; my 500 watt amp turned half up is almost deafening. with the binding posts on the back i can even run power from my Cavin DCM600 and use these speakers as my bass guitar setup. one of the best investments i have ever made.

BUZZZZZZZ...
I was very pleased with this system for the first month or so I owned it (better speakers would make it much better though..); However, shortly after that it began making a loud intermittent buzzing noise. This noise ranges from almost imperceptible, to so loud it drowns out almost all other audio output. It seems to be coming from the satelite speakers only.

I have a friend with a different Sony system and he has a similar problem with his subwoofer. (Maybe this is a problem with Sony products in general?) He tried to get it serviced and was told there was nothing wrong with it. I hope I have better luck, as this can really be a great system on the rare occasion that I can hear it over the sometimes thundering buzz!

A big step up from pro-logic
Wow! Our previous system was a Kenwood Dolby ProLogic receiver (100W/ch) w/ Bose 301 front speakers (we used "emulated" center channel) and some generics for the rear. And we thought it was nice. We were not prepared for this. After hooking things up we watched Jurassic Park. When the T-Rex roared you knew it, even if you were in a different room. On the other side of things, you can hear people speaking very clearly. I tend to agree that the manual could be a little more user-friendly but I had no trouble (mainly because I only hooked up the included DVD changer audio to the receiver {using digital via included coax}, the component video went straight to the TV and the speakers hooked to the receiver.) I have no more use for my equalizer, cd player, vcr, tape deck, etc. but there are plenty of hook-ups for these devices.
Mostly everything is set-up correctly right from the box. Just make sure you configure the DVD to turn on DTS and Dolby Digital. I also suggest using the digital coax (orange jacks) for connecting the DVD audio to the receiver and getting better speaker wires for the speakers (lamp cord from HomeDepot or Lowes is 100x better than the scrawny included wires)

A great system
I've owned this system for almost a year and find it is extremely versitile and does most everything I want. The only drawback is that it has no turntable inputs. That's right, I ahve an old AR turntable that I want to connect. Oh well.

    Everything good except volume control
I bought my speakers 5-6 months back. Theie slim model look nice. Sound quality is also very good and I have loved listening music on my computers with these speakers!
A serious problem with speakers is the volume control pad. Volume control is done by rotating a circular disc. After couple of months, this disc is not working well now. You put the volume control at a particular position, but the volume keeps going UP AND DOWN (i.e. fluctuations) by itself. Sometimes these "automatic" ups and downs are so loud that you get really annoyed! I cannot enjoy listening smoothly on these speakers anymore.

    Simply Amazing!!!!!!!!1
I have been looking for the, "Perfect" computer speaker for months now. I just haven't found anything that blew me away for the price. I have heard Monsoon was great, but nowhere around here in Portland, OR sells them. I bid on some on eBay, but always got outbid. Finally, I just decided to take the plunge and purchase these from Creative Labs. I know the brand because I own an MP3 player from them and LOVE that item as well. I am amazed at the sound these project. I did not even come close to expecting the kind of sound these have. The speakers can be hung on the wall or stand straight up. There is a bass control and another convenient feature is the volume control is a remote so it can be on your desk and you do not have to reach down to the Subwoofer to turn the volume up or down. As far as I can tell, the best value around.

    Simply amazing!
I listened to all the speakers al several computer stores yesterday and I conclude, hands down, that these speakers are the best- even compared with the top of the line models! They are so clear and crisp. I listened to several CD's and the sound came across clear, crisp, and with a very pleasant tone. From the lowest volume to top volume they never distorted! All the other speakers exhibited sounds of distortion, static, or vibration with a canny, cheap, tin-like sound. These were the ONLY speakers, out of the dozens I heard, that exhibited NO SIGNS of distortion or tonal hiccups. They sound so darn clear and equal in quality to our in home stereo system. Don't let the Creative Labs name fool you, these speakers are nothing like the other Creative lab speakers they sell (the ones with the smaller cubes). Somehow these were made extra well and exceed all the others by a long shot. Go to your nearest Circuit City and listen for yourself. You will surly be as amazed as I was! Even with the bass on the subwoofer turned off, the satallites sounded suburb, but in combination with the subwoofer they amaze and delight all the senses. Perhaps the perfect computer speakers at the perfect price. I love these speakers and they look mighty handsome too!

    Great while it works
I had heard great things about the Monsoon MM 2000 speakers, and ordered a set to take with me to college. The subwoofer was DOA, so I had to ship the whole thing back and wait. Not cool, but oh well. The new set arrived and worked beautifully for just long enough for the warranty to expire. Then the subwoofer quietly, but permanently, died. It gets power, it hums and heats up; not a trace of bass. I should have taken it as a bad sign when the first subwoofer died, but to have a second expire for no good reason? You don't want a disposable speaker system at this price, and just try getting ahold of Monsoon for tech support (such as it is).

    Not worth the money
I have this set, and after 15 months, the subwoofer started blowing internal fuses when the unit was turned on (the speakers were never turned up even close to maximum, and were usually played quietly). Since they were (barely) out of warranty, I went ahead and opened up the subwoofer. I was disappointed in the quality of the circuitry - far too much hot glue strung about, a mishmash of resistors and capacitors bent this way and that (in order to make them fit in their crowded spaces). Not surprisingly, the subwoofer unit is made in China, while the nicely made satellite units are made in Canada.

I also have 2 sets of Cambridge Soundworks speakers (Soundworks and Microworks) as well as 2 sets of Klipsch Promedia speakers, both the 2.1 and the 4.1 units. All 3 makes perform well, with the Klipsch easily being the best sounding. As is well known, the Monsoons are very directional, and tend to be thin and harsh at times, although they are very detailed. The Klipsch have great detail as well, but the sound is better balanced and rich. The Monsoons win the style part of the competition, which is a big reason I bought my set.

If the prices were equivalent, it might be a tough choice. But the Monsoons are significantly more [costly] than the Klipsch now ..., and the Cambridge models are cheaper still ...With that in mind, I cannot recommend the Monsoons. They are tops in style, but the sound remains harsh to my ears, and the directional qualities are a negative for general listening. The poor build quality of the set I received makes me even more disappointed in them. I have replaced them with the Klipsch 4.1.

    "Somebody Stop Me From Raving!"
I'm 42 and have been into stereo equipment since 16: I'm AMAZED that you can get this sound for way, Way, WAY less than $1000. With good soundcard (mine's a Soundblaster Live) I get solid, open imaging; near electrostatic detail and great bass. The build quality is excellent. The satalites have perminantly attached lamp cord which is stripped and soldered to go into spring loaded clips on the Amplifier/Subwoofer - I'd rather see banana clips and terminals there but at this price you Really can't argue. If you like detailed, full bodied sound at a great price do yourself a favor and check these out. And oh yeah: they play plenty loud - you could these as regular stereo speakers if you don't listen at house party levels.

Problems from the start... too bad, because it sounded great
I bought this sub about 2 years ago. It sounded better than the Polk and all other brands in the price range. I was happy with it for about 6 months. Then there was loud buzz... and then nothing. I got it repaired under warranty, and it was great... for another 6 months. This time, the speaker blew after the loud buzz that occured after my power came back on after an outage. I got a new speaker (after paying some nifty shipping fees). It was great for about another 6 months until... you guessed it... loud buzz, and the amp blew. I'm not about to try to have it fixed again. I'm surprise they gave me warranty coverage for the second repair. At that time, I suggested they just give me a new one, but they refused.

I've read tons of reviews on different sites, and it appears that SIMILAR PROBLEMS IS VERY COMMON, EVEN WITH THE PB12. You think they'd recall the things.

All of this said, if yours happens to work, it will be great buy. As for me, I'm never buying another JBL product.

    Great sub at great price
This is a very good subwoofer that delivers clean, tight, wall rumbling bass. I have it in my home theater setup and love watching DVDs more than ever now.

As much Bass as you want
I always dreamed of a "real" subwoofer...and I found it ! I coupled a Yamaha E-250 with the JBL PB10 and listening to the system is a pleasure every day. Whether it's Jazz, Rock, Techno or Drum and Bass, the sub can find the lowest frequencies. There are numerous control at the back to set it at the level you need. I haven't cranked it up to the max yet as books start to fall from my bookshelf when it's set at 2/3. At half volume, the lamps on the first floor shake...you better have neighbor living far from you.

I also own a Klipsh subwoofer for my hometheater but it doesn't compare. As for the humming sound, the PB10 as been in my bedroom for a year and i must be deaf bacause i haven't noticed anything.
