These speakers are great! I only have onboard sound, no soundcard, and the sound out of the speakers is true to life. The subwoofer, for its size and wattage, is amazing. The speakers can be wall or monitor mounted too. If you have plus for windows xp, you can use the speaker enhancement function for these. No complaints here!

I picked a pair of these up at a local computer Show. The sound was incredible for such a small package. It literally rivals my 7 Speaker Surround sound system for clarity of sound and has excelent bass for a relativley small Subwoofer. The in-line volume control is nice as well. I leave it just next to the keyboard for fast volume changes.

For the money, the best set of speakers I have. I now longer use the boombox in the den, these speakers are better. Crisp highs, really smooth and clear bass, and the are practically invisible on on the wall behind the computer. Do put the bass unit on the floor, it really makes a difference, although I started with it behind the monitor and even that was great.

Ok, let's not get caried away... These are not exceptional speakers. They're not even great speakers. Furthermore, I wouldn't even think of using them in a surround sound system. On the other hand, they are a tremendous value for speakers with good enough sound quality for a whole house system. They are also very easy to install, as they clamp onto the drywall, and no recessed enclosure is needed. I have purchased 6 pair, and now my entire home is awash in glorious ambient music. If this is what your after, you cannot find a better value. However, if you're looking for good surround speakers, you'll find better sound if you loosen up the wallet a bit. later.

These speakers are nothing exceptional, but for the price they cannot be beat. I have heard many cheap speakers in my life, but most either have a very tiny treble or just weak sound overall. I would say that these speakers have a fairly round and warm overall sound as well as a good solid range. As a musician, I like to think that my ears are a little bit more fine-tuned than the average American, and for 60 dollars, these speakers are great for my ears.

I was skeptical about these speakers but I have listened to so many in the past couple of months in stores I couldn't decide. After reviewing and comparing the specs and prices I decided to give these a try. I mounted them in the celing as my front pair angeled the tweeters and WOW! What a great sounding pair of speakers and the price is about $150 less than I was going to spend. I am very happy and they are so easy to install in your ceiling. It is a well worth saving the money and getting these two. You could spend alot more money and get the same quality of sound.

I purchased these speakers for aesthetic reasons, especially after having read the positive reviews posted here. However I was sorely disappointed by their performance.

Pros: aesthetically pleasing, small size, wired remote

Cons: no treble control (can only adjust the bass level), weak midrange output

I played all genres from dance, R&B, electronica, rock, punk, classical, opera, jazz, piano, choral, Latin, solo instrumental (violin, cello, clarinet), and movies. The bass is excellent as others have already pointed out. However, due to the small size of the speakers, the midrange output was significantly lacking. When I tried to compensate for this by boosting the treble in iTunes (the speakers have no treble control!) certain songs were played with noticeable distortion due to overloading the small speakers. A perfect example of this is how alto saxophone in certain jazz songs were really distorted. Even my 5 year old basic Phillips speakers and subwoofer performed better than these. The only redeeming quality of the I-trigues is their attractive aesthetics and small size.

According to some Apple audiophiles, Soundsticks 2 by Harman Kardon is a good alternative to these speakers for $50.00 more.

I've had it for a month now and this set of speakers is very impressive. Design and build are solid as well as overall sound. It matches well with flat panels (of similar shade or color) , iMac and Powermac G5. I'm enjoying the listening experience and the pleasing aesthetics (nice to look at) very much. For Mac Users, these speakers are a perfect match. Made quite an impression on all my friends who saw them last weekend.

I bought the whole set of surround speakers all of them JBL, and for this speaker I have to say that it's really good. At first, I didn't really care much about the center speaker, till I really found out what it really does. Most of the dialog and main sounds from a movie come out through a center speaker, while the front and surround serve for music and effects.
This speaker it's pretty good. The two 5" woofers handle everything from music to movies without a hassle. They handle bass pretty good, and the tweeter is also very good and clear.
Very good combination with any "northridge series" speakers.
I have two front ND 310-II, a N-Center, and N-24 surround, accompanied by a Powersound P12 JBL woofer.
Perfect combination for a perfect surround system.

JBL has successfully voiced matched (timbre) the N-Center to the JBL N24s, where together (after REF Level Calibration via Video Essentials DVD), they provide a much more convincing, extremely wide front & surround stage. The N-Center locks the dialog in the center of the TV clearly with realistic impact. The success of this N-Center and N24's is evident by the common accolades that describes the NSP1 HT Speaker package: "Timbre matching; sound was superb; Imaging was excellent; smooth, uniform response; rich and clear; pleasingly natural with stereo music; articulate, focused, and well balanced."...

For years I had just used my TV speaker as a center speaker. Why? The center speaker I wanted to get went out of business and I just never got around to buying a center speaker. JBL has been a leader in the speaker world,,it was at a good price so I decided to treat myself to one. Wow, what I was missing for so long. I can't compare it with other center speakers, but this JBL is simply awesome. It has a very clear and sharp sound that brought out the total listening pleasure of my surround speakers. Now when a cannon shoots, I jump. You can't go wrong with this speaker.

It is really worth spending [more] and getting decent speakers. Model18's highs are to high, base is distorted at modereate volume. If you care about sound at all look somewhere else.

Best speaker you are going to find at this price, you will not be disappionted.

These are the best speakers i have ever had. I love them. Anyone who wants to upgrade their front speakers, but these. They have a lot of bass and the best treble ever. Very clear and natural sounds come from these speakers. I think they look awesome too! You cant beat the price. Thanx Amazon. These speakers are not part of the greatest, they are the greatest themselves. You dont even need a powered subwoofer, these speakers have a lot of bass.

The first Monsoon MM-700 that I purchased was DOA (dead on arrival). The subwoofer had a "short" since sound would only come out of one speaker. When I returned it, the seller didn't raise a fuss. He implied that he's been having a high return rate for Monsoon products because of defect.

I received a new subwoofer and it worked and sounded terrific for three months. As with my first Monsoon, the subwoofer "shorted out" and sound is only coming out of one speaker. I couldn't get any warranty work from Monsoon and the cost to get it repaired out of my own pocket is high.

If it wasn't for the poor quality work control problems with this product, I would have given it high marks.

The problem--poor computer sound, cheap small drivers suited more to noise than music, lack of good source material.

The solution--flat panel technology, CDs, mp3s and incredible gaming advances in sound.

Monsoon has done it! High-end audio has long recognized the superiority of flat panels to render midrange sounds clearly and effortlessly. High cost, a sweet spot, less bass and lower volume were the drawbacks. These drawbacks disappear when you are sitting at a desk as in computer use.

I have been in and out of the stereo business most of my life and was ready to take steps to put a whole stereo under my desk in order to get acceptable sound quality. The Monsoon mm700 system I purchased made that unnecessary. I wouldn't go as far as other reviewers in stating you could fill a room at high levels, but there is NO doubt they can rock the world in the near field market (3 to 5 ft.)

Druthers--Things I would like to see Monsoon (or anyone) improve. A real subwoofer should crossover at 100 Hz or below so the bass is omnidirectional, expense would go up significantly because it would take more power the lower you go and truthfully most "punch" in on-line music and movies, for that matter is above 100 Hz. Maybe it's possible to have two subwoofer modules as a temporary solution in this system offered as an option. Monsoon is definitely on the right track; the midrange and highs are natural and detailed and the bass is tight. Build quality is very high, impressive even and the cost is moderate when you start to compare. I listened to stuff many times the cost of this system and didn't find anything as good. I hope other manufacturer's follow suit with better systems. We are all going to spend more time at our computers, why shouldn't they sound better?

Outstanding speakers. Quality materials and construction, reasonable price - awesome sound! Highly recommended. These are not molded plastic, terrible sounding computer speakers. I routinely crank them up and listen to MP3's - more often than my Harman Kardon home system - no problem filling a large room with music.

I bought this sub 2 years ago, and one day i turned the power switch on the amp did not switch on. i looked behind the sub, and the light did not even come on! I tried replacing the fuse, but it kept blowing them, so I took it back, but they said I would have pay for the shipping. I gave it to someone that needed it, and they are powering it by an external amp. On another note, the sound was descent, and it did play pretty low, but not low enough. It was loud, and provided tight, clean bass. I now own a jbl sub, and I would recommend listening or purchasing one of their subs.

First, for the "Audio enthusiast from Tigard OR.
Ther is no way the Sony SAWM40 or the AudioSource 15 come even close to the Velodyne CHT-8, those wanabies just do not cut it,
they have a lot of "Boom" but none is clean clear defined BASS.
THIS IS A COMMON MISTAKE ON THE PART OF NOVICES.
And just how did that person measure the results? By reading the ads?
This sub goes down enough for most peoples' ears anyway and in my setup it produces superb results that would not shame subs costing 3 times as much.

i've owned my sub for a little over a year and it has proven to me day after day that it can take anything i throw at it and still perform wonderfully. It hits the lowest notes without a problem and at the same time is very crisp and very clean. being as i own a car audio business i know what it is to hear good bass. I would never trade this for anything else....except for maybe the 10" or 12"

First off i'd like to say that yes i'm and audiophile, i listen to every genre of music, watch movies, and am also an avid gamer. I'm also a big fan of keeping everything together on my computer. Anyway, these speakers have a very good quality sound, a bit dull in the deep end, but for the price they were a truly great find. And so I marveled at my great buy for a couple of months. To my suprise however I began getting a horrible crackling noise. Upon closer inspection 3 of the sats have tears in them. This came as a great suprise as i have never turned the volume up past 60%. Also i run all my equipment through an audio surge protector. So i'm quite baffled by how this happened. Also I've been given the run around by Altec customer service.

however despite my less than glowing review so far, i would recommend these speakers. yes i've had problems, but i'm willing to chalk that up to bad luck on my part. just thought i'd put this warning out.

If you buy this for your computer and you complain about the speakers being distorted, thats usually why 5.1 sound cards was invented. Buy one for 50$ at an entry price and use the 5.1 slots for full 5.1 sound without distortion. Don't worry about the bass being distorted, the software from the sound card will let u set the controls on your computer. Find the right setting for you and the speakers will work much better then it did with crappy intergrated sound cards.

I give this one 5 stars. The sound is truly amazing. I couldn't believe the clarity on this 5.1 system. Whether I'm playing a video game or just listening to music on my computer, these speakers make me feel like I'm truly there in the action. The one thing I love about these speakers are that you can "plug and play." It can be plugged into virtually any device that produces sound like an MP3 player and the sound quality is great. I would definitely recommend this company to others and I would buy from them again!!

Frankly, I bought this system for my computer at work because it was so cheap and still had a brand name. WOW! Fantastic sound from such little, inexpensive speakers. So good that when I set up the system at home first to make sure it worked, my wife insisted I get her a set for her computer.

One caveat: when you get better speakers, you start to notice that the quality of sound on and over the internet (and on your computer, for that matter) is all over the place. I thought I would be able to live on streaming audio, but find that sound quality really varies depending on the source and isn't usually up to CD standards. If you're going to play mostly MP3s from your computer, it will depend on the sampling rate. The CD-quality stuff I've got recorded at home is jaw-droppingly good.

I had previously bought a pair of multimedia speaks from another company ..., but I had no way to compare until the Cambridge Soundworks arrived -- they are much better -- heavy and well built with volume control -- definetaly buy these as they are a good deal for the quality.

For the price i think these speakers offer a chic and interesting quality, the sound quality isnt anything godly but its very good, the touch system is interesting and easy, although a little gimmick-y.

i did have very little trouble setting it up, i had to turn it off and on a few times to get the left and right speakers working but other than that ive experienced no problems.

a good buy for a fair price, i reccomend it to anyone.

I am very pleased with my purchase. The sound quality is perfect. The sound fills the entire room--and occasionally the rest of the house. They compliment the eMac design very well.

Initially, I had a problem similar to the person who ranked the speakers with one star and then I realized that I hadn't plugged the speakers in completely.
