Decent
They're OK. Good for the price, but nothing that will blow you away.

Great Price/Performance Ratio
For music, I really enjoy these speakers. As with any speaker with a planar driver, positioning is important. These are great for listening to MP3's and cd's. Less good at games, the voices come through too bright on some games. All-in-all, near audiophile quality. BTW, my reference system for computer audio is a 20th Anniversary Macintosh with a proprietary Bose sound system,...

Good speakers for medium $s
The Monsoon MH-500 speakers are a pretty good product. Listening to music with good stereo separation is great, though the manual it comes with implies that waves generated by the flat-panel elements are easily blocked. If you've got the space to set them out OK, they seem fine to me. The subwoofer is best placed on a hard floor.

This model is actually the bottom of the Monsoon flat panel range; the two satellites each have a flat panel element (for the high frequency range) and a smallish cone speaker (for medium frequencies). The subwoofer has plenty of power for a small office with a concrete floor, but may be a bit quiet in a big carpeted room. Oddly, the next model up in the Monsoon range has no mid-frequency cone elements, which to me makes the MH-500 a better buy, especially for the price (less than US$100).

vbzzzz
In a nutshell: crummy. Subwoofer: 0/5. Satellites: 3/5.

The subwoofer resonates right in the middle of the bass band, you'd think they'd have done some testing on the box acoustics. I'm surprised it doesn't jump around like an old 15" paper speaker.

All four satellite speakers have silly little runners on the bottom with a wire between - a big wire on the right front, so it doesn't sit level nor stay where you want. I ended up hanging them upside-down like bats.

The subwoofer level control has a bad taper. Keep turning, but it doesn't get much softer after 1/4, until the point at which it shuts off completely.

The power is on all the time, even with the switch turned off. "Make this connection last" is right.. but unplug the wallwart first.

The satellites are tight, even though they seem insubstantial. The package would be a 4/5 if the subwoofer didn't have those nasty harmonics.

for 40 bucks, good deal
I like having a top of the line sound card I got these cheap speakers because I don't want to have to use headphones all the time. I never turn them up all the way, (the speakers), my neighbors would kill me. Decent sound quality. Only problem for me is the wires. I dont know what else to say but when I set it up so the speakers surround my computer station the wires are laying on the floor and when I stand up for a minute and walk away I always end up catching my foot on the right rear speaker wire and dragging it a few feet. Im sure sooner or later its gonna just bust open and I'll have to get another package of cheap 4:1 speakers.

Altec Lansing's ...? Wow!
I just got these speakers no more then an hour ago, and these are the best speakers I have EVER had. They do have the minor flaw that when you turn them off, they are still on, but the slight hiss is not hearable unless you put your ear right next to the speaker. Other than that, there is nothing wrong with it. Great sound quality and great volume capacity.

very boomy
not a quality piece. i usually like KLH products, but this is definitely a case where you get what you pay for.

the sound is loud, but very boomy and not controllable at all. i played around with it for a few hours and had to take it back - it was worthless to me. and i'm not an audiophile.

i eventually bought a jbl PB10 and it's considerably better. it's twice the price, but worth it for the improvement in sound.

best of luck!

Great Sub, but only for a while...
I bought the KLH 10" sub with high hopes. When I first got it 2 months ago it performed rather well. At low to mid volume levels it could play clean. At high volume levels it has a lot of port noise from the velocity of the air exiting. Last night the sub died. It began to exibit popping noises and is now deceased. If you buy this, don't expect it to last long at high volume levels as with any sub, it had it's limit. This peticular sub did not care for a band called "Nile." I wouldn't recommend this product for extreme volume levels, but it sure tried!

What are you people doing?
I have to say, after hearing many different brands of audio equipment out there. KLH is the best deal I've seen yet. I see all these people saying how they have so many problems, what are you people doing to this sub for it to stop working that fast? It has an internal amp, that doesn't mean you need to use the speaker inputs with high amp and then have the gain up high. Are you running it for long periods with bass testers or something? Read the manual, it says to prevent long and loud bass for extended periods of time. Maybe you people just don't know how to use audio equipment the proper way and with care for the equipment as well. And anyways, just like with a car for instance, you don't get it and then floor it until you break it in a little, the same thing goes for audio equipment.
Besides the aspect of its "problems" people seem to have generated with this speaker, I would say it has the quality of some Velodyne subs, and they are almost 2 times the price for an 8" subwoofer. So, all I can say is, if you want an awesome stereo system and don't want to refinance your house, go with KLH for everything, I've had no problems with any of my equipment (Digital Dolby Receiver, Floors, Bookshelfs, Sub and my other stereo w/ 8" bookshelfs).

Sound Bug Indeed
Bought this for my laptop hoping to improve the volume when playing DVDs. Unfortunately it has to be plugged into the headphone socket so the built-in speakers are muted and the sound bug's volume is poor quality and lower than the speaker volume, no matter where I place the bug. Like the concept but not the quality. For me it was money wasted.

20 dollars canbuy 2 meals or this
Basically you should decide if you want to eat rice for 2 days and then wait for this thing or just forget about it. I read about these and its sequel, the Omnivox, in Fortune Small Business magazine last week and I was fascinated.
I think these are totally worth the 20 dollars. I'll admit that i was a little worried when the suction cup broke off one of them after I tried to use it the second time, but then i discovered that that piece of metal under the suction makes an even better sound. If you're into using cheap electronics to get unique sounds-- be it old Atari STs, Gameboys, or vintage microphones; this is definately a tool to have around.
If you want to replace any speakers, read the negative reviews, or get the omnivox; i'm saving up for that now.

It sure soundbugged me
I got this on sale after seeing it at thinkgeek, and thought I had quite a steal--until I got it home.

I need to say that I am no audiophile. The free headphones that come with CD players, MP3 players, etc, are usually fine for me. I don't ask too much of my audio equipment. And, sadly, the Soundbug doesn't even measure up to that low standard.

The sound is VERY bad. It is tinny and flat. I tried using it on the following surfaces in my quest to get good sound:
-tabletop
-wall-mounted mirror
-pane of glass on door
-marble counter top
-bottom of large metal pot
-dinner plate
-bottom of large skillet
-window glass

I know this sounds like a strange collection of objects, but when the obvious "flat surfaces" didn't work, I started looking for ANYTHING flat that might work. Unfortunately, nothing did.

So, if someone gives you one, return it and get something else. If you bought one, return it. If you are stuck on a desert island with 2000 AA batteries, an MP3 player, a table and a Soundbug, then MAYBE it would be worth using.

these are the worst speakers ever
I bought these speakers hoping that they would produce sound better than the internal speakers on my HP laptop. It turned out that these pretty speakers were far worse, having no bass at all and lots of static. After having the speakers turned on for more than 2 hours, the battery life was nearly wasted, as was indicated by the waning clarity and volume of the music. If you want to spend $40 on a decent-sounding pair of speakers, I would recommend going for the conventional ones made by Creative or Altec-Lansing. I personally returned these, and went for some $80 speakers made by Creative, which are just phenomenal.

Cool design, Innovative product, portable, + great sound too
I've tried listening to my laptop speakers, and other supposedly portable speakers before now, and I've always got bored or tired of listening to them really quickly... They're always tinny and distant sounding.

I got my Loudman last week, and immediately took them with me on a trip to the US for a few days... I have to say that whilst in the hotel I never got bored or tired of listening to them once! They seem to work well with all types of music, and the volume for a hotel room is perfect. They're very compact, and went in my laptop bag easily.

Before I left, I compared the way they sound with a much more expensive pair of conventional Discman speakers that I had bought previously. The Loudman blew them out of the water! If i still had the receipt for the others I'd be taking them back for a refund!

The only reason I didn't give the Loudman five stars is because it's a bit fiddly getting the batteries in, but once their in, they sound so good you cease to care.

They'll be one of the first things I pack on my future travels!

Great NXT speakers
Great product for portable music players. I have one and the sound quality is very good. Even better if you have an MP3 player with a graphic equaliser as it allows you to fine tune the sound.

Much less tiring to listen to than other alternatives I have tried. Battery life is very good as well.

They are very good value for money.

Do Not Buy This
Like everyone else has said, this thing is a waste of money. I have had mine for 3 years now and have not once been able to hear the actors speaking during a movie. I thought it was my tuner, but it must be this piece of garbage

Better than it's reputation!
I almost didn't order this based on the poor reviews and Consumers Reports findings. I needed a thin center speaker to go with the acoustimass cubes - this was the logical choice. After researching it at length there were mixed reviews with many negative comments. I called Cruthfield and the Bose Outlet to get their opinions. They were surprised to hear that there were negative comments. The Bose outlet advised theirs sounded great and noted it must be hooked directly to the receiver - not the module like the cubes. I have had the speaker for a couple weeks and it sounds great. I have two other surround systems, one high end and a lower end system and the Bose performs admirably for such a compact system. The articulation of words coming from the center speaker sounds like a real person. I don't understand the bad reviews - unless it's not being connected properly. Worked for me - and as most retailers note you can always send it back.

Nothing wrong with this Center Channel Speaker
Some of these reviews are unbelievable. Can you believe the person who writes, "I have had mine for 3 years now and have not once been able to hear the actors speaking during a movie". Yeah, sure...real believable.

I have owned this speaker for about a year, and dialogue is crystal clear, and a big improvement over my previous center channel speaker. I have this speaker plugged directly into my surround sound receiver's center channel plug, not into a Bose subwoofer unit, and it still works great.

You won't be disappointed with this speaker. At the $200 center channel speaker level, it is king. If you don't like it, don't complain about it, just return it. Bose has an unconditional 30 day money back guarantee.

Pass on these and spend a few more $$$ on better
The design and style is what attracted my eye in the beginning. They look great with my Dell Dimension 8200. Looks are all that these come with. The sound is awful and vibrates. There is no headphone hook up on these and my cheapy speakers that these replaces sound much better. I am actually on Amazon to buy new ones. Wish me luck!

No bad for the price.
Granted, these may not be the best sounding speakers on the market, ...They sound best when played at low to medium volume, a little tinny, but overall very pleasing. The added bonuses here are the space saving design and high tech look. I use these in my office and everyone who comes in comments on how well they do sound. I don't beleive you can find a better sounding system in this price range.

Good buy
Compact, easy to intall, sounds great. I am sceptical of people who claim they can tell the difference from more expensive systems by ear...Unless you're planning a rave, these speakers are fine.

HORRIBLE PRODUCTS HORRIBLE QUALITY
PLEASE DON'T NOT EVER BUY ANY PRODUCTS MADE BUY COBY, ESPECAILLY CD PLAYERS. I have bought two of them thinking maybe I broke the first one - but it wasn't me. All of theire products last 2 to three months and break right after the warranty in no longer good. And thrie customer service is HORRIBLE. Save your money on Coby and get a quality product from a quaility company/manufactuer such as Sony.

Not bad
I don't have this yet,but from the reviews and the cheap prices, I'd say its a pretty good cd-player. It comes with headphones so you can go anywhere with it. It would be a great gift for a family member, friend, or boyfriend/girlfriend. Its rated a three and a three-five is worth buying.(In my view) So, I say BUY!!

-Definetley better than average-
To start out this reccomendation, I would like to say that Amazon has a great price for this item. Most places has it for well over $30 so if your looking to buy it, I would buy it here. I also am pretty sure that it has free shipping so it is a good deal.

I play my Gavin Degraw Chariot CD on this the most and it is unbelievable sound. I have accidently dropped it in the past and it still doesnt skip. As the display goes, the screen isnt the hugest, but you can definetley read the screen w/ decent vision. Most importantly this CD Player has got some style! The beautifully decorated silver screen is entranced w/ a great navy blue display and it really pulls together the Player. If you would like to use this at a gym, people will envy you over the looks!

Not too big, not too small, great design and headphones work well that come w/ it! Definetley a great CD Player for its price.
