¿¿DON'T BUY KLH¿¿
In defense of subs everywhereYour subwoofer was only doing what it was built to do when it gave out these booming, often muddy, low tones. There is nothing wrong with your sub, what you need is an equalizer if you don't like that sound quality. You need good speakers for the higher frequency to give you the nice clear tones to complete a good overall sound, and tone down the levels on the subwoofer to eliminate that muddy sound, but keeping the bass nice and solid.
My suggestion then would be an audio reciever with an equalizer.
Very good productvery impressed with it. I am using it with onkyo products and it seems to give good bass response during movies going down as low as 22hertz. The amp on back reading 335watts if that helps you. Box looks good no complaints thier sure of that. The only thing that you might not like is the neighbors complaining. Well hope this helped you out i think it is a great deal if you are looking for some serious bass.

This is the same as HTA-1000
Very Pleased - Good Clean ProductThe individual components are also extremely clean...no ill-fitting pieces, bad edges, grilles that don't fit properly, etc. Again, all was found to be as good as one would expect of far costlier systems.
The instructions are a bit sparse and confusing, but the need to refer to them is quite minimal as hookup is straightforward. The factory packaging includes precut 24-gauge wire, and hanging brackets for the four twisty satellites.
I found prior reviewers of KLH subwoofers to be correct in their observation that the "Auto" power setting is not sensitve enough to be useful, unless you routinely listen to media at moderate sound levels and which has pronounced bass content. I just leave my subwoofer on all the time, though it could probably be plugged into the "Switched" outlet found on the backplane of many receivers.
Some other reviewers have also cited problems with complete failure of the subwoofer. These complaints have me looking over my shoulder a bit, though I can report that my own unit is functioning fine.
My KLH system is driven by a Sony STR-635 receiver. I have a Sony 32" Trinitron and a Toshiba 6-head Hi-Fi stereo VCR. The system is used in a 12x12 foot family room with standard 8 foot ceiling, though it will occasionally also be used in a 12x20 room with a 20 foot vaulted ceiling when I want to do "Theater" for a larger home audience. The KLH system is competent in this larger environment.
I typically listen to "dramatic" instrumental music (e.g. Jerry Read Smiths's hammered dulcimer) at moderate levels, and generally older videos such as Alfred Hitchcock. I have however tried the system with more recent material (The Bear, Paulie, letterbox Ben Hur, Sound of Music with THX) and the KLH system delivers a very impressive experience. I think readers who prefer modern action videos with advanced soundtracks, would also find the KLH package a worthwhile investment.
Last night I went to a neighbor's home, taking my copy of "Mrs. Miniver" (a British WWII movie) with me. I found the neighbor had a small Sony home theater package custom-installed in his family room. We started the video. On the neighbor's Sony system, my video didn't sound as good as I thought I remembered it to be.
After ten minutes, I talked the neighbor into coming to watch the remainder of that video on my system. My KLH speakers outperformed his Sony stuff without even breathing hard! The sound during the bombing scenes couldn't have been better if we'd been in a commercial theater.
I not only can recommend the HTA-809 to others as a quality investment, but I'm planning to take my own advice and buy a second KLH HTA-809 package for my own home!
I give four stars only because of the insensitive Auto power setting on the subwoofer.

Unleash the power
Good sub for 50 bucks! However, if the dial is kept in the middle, and when paired up with decent front speakers, this sub can really drill the LFE's. I almost crapped in my pants when i played Armageddon on DVD. I use a Yamaha receiver with Sony DVD player. I didn't feel like spending 200 bucks on an 8 inch driver, so i took a chance and I'm perfectly happy with the Jensen JS800. I know i can't overwork it or i'll blow the cone, but in an average size room paired with good speakers, this things is worth every penny. i purchased it form J&R for 50 bucks, free shipping and used Monster's 16 foot subwoofer cable to hook it up.
The black cabinet looks good, it doesn't take up a lot of space, and its amplified at 100 watts RMS. it was a great deal.

non energystar compliantapparently this just runs 24/7 while im at work or leave for the weekend to my other house which HAS auto shutoff subwoofers..has sony ever heard of energystar?? otherwise it works well but for less money you can find one w/auto shutoff.
i use it in the bedroom and it provides adequate base..

very boomythe sound is loud, but very boomy and not controllable at all. i played around with it for a few hours and had to take it back - it was worthless to me. and i'm not an audiophile.
i eventually bought a jbl PB10 and it's considerably better. it's twice the price, but worth it for the improvement in sound.
best of luck!
Great Sub, but only for a while...
What are you people doing?Besides the aspect of its "problems" people seem to have generated with this speaker, I would say it has the quality of some Velodyne subs, and they are almost 2 times the price for an 8" subwoofer. So, all I can say is, if you want an awesome stereo system and don't want to refinance your house, go with KLH for everything, I've had no problems with any of my equipment (Digital Dolby Receiver, Floors, Bookshelfs, Sub and my other stereo w/ 8" bookshelfs).

- Mounts easily under cabinet to save space

Terrible Radio
Enjoying my new Spacemaker...It was easy to install, and perfect for listening to music while you fix dinner. It's not going to be a BOOM BOX that will fill the whole house. Just enough for the kitchen. It looks nice too. All in all, a good buy and it was a wonderful mother's day gift.
A great product! The remote control is an awesome convenience - I leave the remote on the kitchen table and use it more than the actual controls on the radio. There is capacity for 10 pre-set stations, which is also a great feature, so you can easily flip to another station when you're in the mood for something new. All the features are included on the remote, so you can turn it on/off, adjust volume, change stations, and switch from AM to FM to CD without getting up.
Also, it was super-easy to install. The instructions were clear, and there was a cardboard template to tape to the bottom of the cabinet with pre-marked holes for drilling. It was installed in 10 minutes.
