A must have (well for me anyway)
Some find it indispensable . . .Very handy for some shooters is an auxiliary shutter button, located on the grip, and positioned to be used when the camera is held in the conventional vertical shooting position. The shutter button is activated by a recessed switch on the grip, and operates in a manner identical to the camera's shutter button.
Though it is relatively light, some may find the grip's additional weight objectionable. Others find the camera to be more balanced and easier to hold and handle, with the grip attached. Especially when a long or heavy lens is attached. Be advised that with the grip attached the space requirement in your camera bag or other carrying gear, will need to be increased a bit. Another "benefit" is purely esthetic, as some users feel the camera simply looks "better" with the grip attached. Secured primarily by a screw that threads into the tripod socket, the grip does have a tendency to loosen up with continued use, and just needs to be tightened occasionally.
With some other Canon camera systems, buying a battery pack grip could be justified for cost saving reasons. Using rechargeable batteries in the grip, eliminates the need to purchase non-rechargeable lithium batteries. Over time, one could save enough to pay for the cost of the grip. In this case, there is no such benefit, as these cameras only use rechargeable BP-511 type batteries. So unless the other features are useful to you, the BG-ED3 may not be a recommended purchase. It mainly depends on the kind of shooting you do, and perhaps the type of lenses you have.
Essential kit.

Works great + can use car adapterPlus, the recharger unit connects to the AC adapter via a 12 volt power jack, so you can easily find a car adapter for it. I use the one from my rechargeable spotlite.
Not a sales pitch
Four batteries, (almost) no waitingAfter an initial break-in charge of 24 hours, these 1850mAh batteries are ready to power you through as many snapshots as your camera can take. With one pair in the charger and the other in your camera, you won't miss a shot or hold up the fun while you head off to the nearest convenience store for an overpriced stale battery. The charger handles any AA or AAA NiMH battery of any capacity including the newer 2100mAh cells, but be sure to charge similar sizes and capacities together. NiMH battery chargers are controlled by microprocessors, so all of the batteries have to be the same size and capacity for proper discharging, charging and post-charging maintenance.
The charger and its AC adapter will slip easily into your luggage when you go on a trip, supplying all the juice you need for all those pictures you're going to take. Both sets should easily get you through a day of shooting and when you come back to the hotel, a half-hour in the charger will have 'em ready to take on the night. These are batteries that can stay up late and still be ready for another day of all-day shooting.
NiMH batteries are also excellent for PDAs, MP3 players, handheld games and digital camcorders. With this 30-minute charger, no one will complain about having to wait all night for a fresh battery.

- Fully charge up to five different sizes of batteries: AA, AAA, C, D, or 9V
- Charging is controlled by a Microprocessor and automatically selects the charge current for different types of batteries
- LED to indicate status of charging
- AA, AAA, C or D size batteries charge in only five hours
- 9V batteries charge in 14-16 hours
List price: $21.99 (that's NaN% off!)

Great for electronic prototypingThe only concern I have with this battery system is that the charger doesn't seem to work properly with 9V batteries -- the LED never changes to green. Other than that, no complaints at all.
Excellent product.

DYNO-MITENow get out there and light up the night.
Fabulous flashlight in an indestructible caseThey are bright, focusable, and it always turns on without fail. No more shaking your flashlight to keep it lit! It's well weighted, so you won't get tired by carrying it, and dropping it won't break the lens or the case.
We also purchased an orange plastic cone that attaches to the front like many police officers have for directing traffic, which makes this flashlight perfect for walking at dusk or at night.
Highly recommended!
Flashlight perfectionJust the weight of the Mag with batteries in it gives me a sense of satisfaction (for some reason). It is a heft bugger, but that's why it's so durable. The light is also crisp and powerful.

Mag lite is simply the best
Mag is the best......IndestructableMags take a beating and keep on ticking. I have dropped this on the concrete, pavement anything you could think of only a tiny scrach. It provides a very large light which you can adjust simply from the top for a more exact stream of light. I have yet to change the batteries(2 years) even though i use it constantly. The on/off switch has never failed or broke. Remember all the flashlights you have had when you have to keep hitting it every 10 seconds to get it to work? Not this one.
Great for working in the garage, anywhere outside or when the lights go out. If you want a real flashlight get a mag they are the best by FAR... Don't hesitate

Good Battery ChargerThe storage space of the device is very important to me. I don't like carrying around dead weight that could be eliminated. The Olympus unit is compact, EXCEPT for the extension cord, it takes up more room than the unit itself. The Kodak K2000 is a wall mounted unit, that does not require a cord. It fits perfectly into my camera bag, without any hassle. I've never had a "loose" wall outlet attachment with the Kodak, if I did, I would tighen it by pinching the plug slightly together.
This Olympus system and the Kodak system both work very well. Both are compact, both recharge quickly. My preference is the Olympus at home, and the Kodak on the road.
High capacity, take-em-anywhere, fast charging* The batteries are 1600mAh and therefore last longer than cheaper (but lower capacity) cells
* The charger runs on any voltage from 100-240V, so I can take it on overseas trips
I use these batteries in an Olympus E-10 camera, and they last all day -- over 100 pictures in one case. The recharger works just fine in Europe and the US, and there is no difference in recharging time.
Recharging takes a little over 3 hours from completely flat, and you can re-charge NiMH batteries from any state and not worry about memory effect (i.e. no need to completely discharge before recharging)
All in all, a great package of charger + batteries with the flexibility to take off to anywhere and not worry about voltage converters etc. Highly recommended.
Good little charger

Sony Infolithium Battery NP-F550I have bougt a new Camcorder DCR-TRV720E with a NP-F330 battery, with 4 inches screen I need more power of battery if i use my Camcorder throgh screen It can last only one hour, With NP-F550 it will work for two and half hours, if I use with view finder it can last for five hours, but i need more than that which I think will be NP-F960 if I get one with a special price it will be big saving.

A smart purchaseIf you have a Mavica and don't have a camera bag already, I would recommend buying the ACC-MVC2 Starter Kit. It comes with the F550 battery, a carrying case, 3 floppies and a LCD cleaning cloth for around $80.

Budget-minded protectionThose power bars that most Retail Computer stores try to sell you when you purchase a new computer will not protect your computer from lightning strikes or regulate "dirty power". Having a stand alone Surge Regulator is every bit as important as having an Anti Virus program these days.
In addition to the amount of protection you'll get from this particular protector, you'll also get about five minutes of battery power (the box says more, but the higher-end computer you have the more power it will consume and the less time the battery will give you), which has come in handy three times since I bought it in june.
Belkin lost a star because I had problems installing the included software package and have yet to resolve the problem (though I'm running Windows XP, which seems to have problems with everything). It will work without the software, but it's irritating to not be able to use the full capabilities of the product. Still, highly reccommended.
very dependible and tough as nailsGet this system...-2003
April 2004 update.
This unit is still going strong. I have had it since 2001 when I took a PC class at vo-tech speaking of the need for UPS backup on all PC's. I cannot believe the reliablity but it's there. I have done absolutely nothing to this unit as far a maintainence. It still has the original battery(which can be replaced via Belkin Customer service at five year end). As far as this unit is concerned it's battery health will probably out last my own ;} Why in heaven's name doesn't Amazon carry this item anymore. It's better than the garbage their peddling today.
P. S. My current computer(it's a Falcon Mach V) makes my other one look like a wimp. Ole smokey here drinks up a lotto gas from my still chugging UPS.
