Stabalized image at high power worth the money
An Interesting High-Tech ToyThe reason I bought these high-powered binoculars is I want to identify all the major landmarks in the San Jose South Bay area. My wife and I ride up to the mid-hill of Mt. Hamilton once a month. Most of the time before we are ready to turn back and coast down the hill, we spend a fair amount of time looking at the spectacular scenery of the San Jose and South Bay area. We want to identify as many landmarks as possible. With our compact Minolta 10x binoculars, we get a clear look at downtown San Jose and of course the Lockheed aircraft hangers. But we could not find the San Jose airport. With the new Canon binoculars, we can identify the airport and many other places. We can even find the street intersection that is only one street away from where we live. The interesting thing is once we identify a place, we can also use the compact Minolta to see the landmark, although with smaller vision. These Canon binoculars make excellent spotter.
The image stabilizer is an interesting high-tech feature. It helps to get a clear and stable view if you press the stabilizer button. However, the binoculars weight 2.6 lbs. I am tired after holding them for two to three minutes. Last time we rode up Mt. Hamilton, we bought a regular camera tripod with us. These Canon binoculars come with a built-in screw thread that can accept a standard tripod quick-release plate. With the binoculars mounted on the tripod, we spent a good half hour looking down the beautiful landscape. The obvious question is, does the use of the tripod defeat the purpose of paying extra for the image stabilizer? How much something is worth is a very personal question. It differs from person to person. I am not going to attempt to answer this question.
We are very happy to own these binoculars. This is a very pricey toy, but we love it. I first saw the Canon 15x image stabilizer binoculars at Wolf's Camera web site and they have a price tag of around $1,200. I was shocked by the price. I told myself some day I might buy it. A year later, amazon.com was carrying this 18x version at a much lower price. I was overjoyed and broke down and bought this toy the following month.
Oh.....My.....God!

Great for digital cameras
Charging Time for Model V-888NHope the following info is useful for you.
Charging Time:
Ni-Cd 2 x AA 5 hours, 4 x AA 7 hours
Ni-MH 2 x AA 10 hours, 4 x AA 14 hours
When charging only 2AA cells, place cells in the side marked "1" of battery compartment.
The red light turns on to indicate that the cells are properly charging; both red lights turn of when 4 AA cells are properly charging.
If the red light fails to glow:
Unplug the charger and check to see that the cells have been inserted properly.
Remove cells, wipe off cell and charger contacts, reinst cells.
Great productAlso use em to power other battery eaters, such as my eTrex GPS. Feel I get decent service from the batteries.
Definitely plan to get another set when these die.

Worth the extra priceOverall, slightly more expensive than other units out there, but worth it. Be sure to get 1450 mA NiMH (nickel metal hydride) batteries if you're going to buy extra batteries with it; you'll find all kinds of uses for them (pager, penlight, handheld games, etc.)
Should be standard equipment with Nikon Coolipx 950

Streamlight ignors defect, no way to treat customers.I made contact with Streamlight the day my light arrived yet have had NO response,
its been 7 weeks. Is it too much to ask for a product to preform as designed? I paid for a 7 LED light not a 6. All I need is a replacement bulb head.
StreamLight, I hope you see this and change your ways, with good products good service must follow. I would have ordered more but if this is an "AS-IS" product at premium prices I'll look long and hard before spending my money on any streemlight products. I tell it the way I know best and regret negitive info, I hope its just an oversight but have seen others telling the same here at Amazon.
intensely modern and efficient
Best value for a flashlightIt is comparable to a typical light that uses 2 C-cell batteries, but a smoother beam without black spots. A set of 4 AA batteries lasts for the better part of a week, as opposed to the old piece of garbage light you keep in the closet that only goes for about half of a day on 2 C batteries.
If you live in an area where you can lose power for almost a whole day (or occassionally several days in a bad storm), this is a flashlight that you can actually use. Leave it on in the middle of the room until the power comes back so you don't trip on anything. They also make a model that uses C-cells, has 10 LEDs instead of 7, and lasts twice as long.

- Limited lifetime warranty
- High intensity adjustable light beam
- Sealed O-rings for water and shock resistance
- Precision-machined, high strength aluminum alloy case
- Spare lamp in the tail cap

Maglite didn't follow through with my warranty request!Hmmmm. Is this how long time customers are treated? I previous owned a variety of their flashlights, from an AAA Solitaire to a 5-D flashlight, at least 5 in total. My dad has purchased in the neighborhood of 15 or more himself, starting in about '86 when someone else turned him onto Maglites.
Customer support is as important to me as the product itself. Has customer support become a casualty of a tough economy?
This long-time customer will have to look at alternatives the next time he's buying a flashlight.
Mag-Lites are the only flashlights you'll ever need. The primary job of a flashlight is, not surprisingly, to create light. Mag gets more light out of their flashlights than anybody. Maybe it's the bulb, or the reflector. But NO flashlight will come close to putting out as much light as a Mag.
Another quality we hope to find in any product is functionality -- does it work every time, or mainly when you don't need it? I can't recall more than a time or two that a Mag failed to come on. I've dropped them from heights that would have destroyed anything less and they still worked.
I have an old black AA-size Mini-Mag here that spent about a decade in the cockpits of airplanes -- the poorest lighted places this side of the Black Forest -- so it got a world of use. The place on the end cap for attaching a lanyard or hanging ring is worn completely through. But the little guy still works like a charm.
The switch on this D-cell model is under live rubber; it has a solid click on and off. The beam is adjustible to a sharp spot. You'll probably want to set it there and leave it alone.
I am certain that batteries last longer in a Mag-lite. The only explanation for this would seem to be that a tiny bit of battery drain occurs on some others. Before I became 100% converted to Mags I would too often pick up a flashlight that was full of dead batteries. I can go for years without changing the batteries in a Mag-lite.
All Mags are rugged. The barrels are sturdy aluminum extrusions -- not plastic or stamped metal. Both end caps have O rings to keep the case waterproof. And who else would be so thoughtful as to put an extra bulb in the bottom endcap?
A reviewer below had a legitimate gripe about tubular things not staying put on anything but a level surface. Of course, that has been a complaint for years about pens and all kinds of tubular devices. This can be cured for the Mag-Lite with a very small bungee cord. Tie several knots in it until it is shortened enough to fit tight around the barrel. The knots will keep the light from rolling around.
I like the new hot red Mag-Lites. Anybody with any sense at all would know a pretty red flashlight would throw more light than a black one. It just stands to reason.
The only kind of flashlight I'm using. It's strong, the four D batteries dont run out quickly, has an on/off switch (unlike smaller Mag models), and doesnt generate much heat.
When electricity blacks-out, the torch mode of this flash light (the lense can be taken off) is very useful - I can continue studying / reading / writing for some while, as the light is strong enough.
I bought it about a year ago, as a small insurance in case the Y2K bug would have taken the electricity down, and it proved itself useful since.

Don't go out without oneYou need the charger (sold separately). It's annoying that you can't charge the battery in the camera, and even more annoying that you have to plug the camera into the recharger or it will forget date and settings when you take the battery out.
This is the battery for Nikon Coolpix 775, 880 and 995I don' know about the other cameras that use this battery, but the 775 comes with an external charger that charges a battery in less than 2 hours. It also has an interal battery that keeps track of the date & time and is automatically recharged from the fresh EN_EL1 battery. (Some camera settings are lost when you remove the EN_EL1 battery).
