Mac User?The included software didn't run under os 10, and when I installed it under os 9.2.1, it didn't work very well. But its unnecessary anyways. Using iTunes, or the built in burn feature in 10.1 negates the need for the included software.
The mp3 player works quite well also. I've been happy with it, and haven't had any problems with the remote either.
Solid product from a reputable company.
Better than I expectedThe results so far are very positive: software installation (on a thinkpad with win2000) was flawless, and burning audio and data a piece of cake. There is also a backup software utility. Both applications do their job well, although very advanced users will want something better: free/cheap recording software abounds both for Mac and Windows, so this is besides the point of this review. The fact that the digital relay duplicates as a stand-alone mp3 player is extremely useful if you listen to a lot of music; using a tape adapter you can play mp3 in your car -- very cool.
The only drawback is that this unit won't record in packet writing mode on win2000-based systems; the customer service warned me about it before I bought the unit. To me it doesn't make any difference, since I use it for data backup and music recording, not as hard drive substitute.
Another very minor drawback is the remote: it's cute and useful when driving a car. But it looks very fragile, and designed for the hands of a toddler. Something bigger and sturdier would have made for better engineering design.
The last CD-R I ever hope to buy.I got this for one purpose: To burn CD-Rs on any computer I happened to be at. USB connectivity makes this a pleasure. I just plug the player into a USB port and it appears as a drive. The burning software is adequate, if not spectacular. And the unit burns a full CD quickly and cleanly. (I've never "burned a coaster" with this.)
If someone needs an emergency backup, I can just connect this and save their data quickly. I only have to avoid cracking one computer case to make this worth my while. And if it's a little pricier than an internal model, just remember your next computer won't =need= to have a burner on it--you can just use this.
So, to sum up: It connects quickly and easily, is totally self-sufficient, and does the job nicely. Quite apart from whatever capacity it might serve as an MP3 jukebox.

Good charger for the money...The K200 is well built and doesn't have any easily-breakable parts, a problem I've had with a few other models. The reverse-polarity protection and peak voltage shutdown are features nice to have included.
Also accepts non-Kodak brand batteries, as they are fairly [more] compared to others.
works great after many charges for cameras, minidisc, etc

Great frs set for the price.
Great little FRS set
Heck of a bargain for 2 way communicationMy wife and I use these extensively everywhere-- on the road, in big grocery or department stores, while one of us goes across the street to buy bread (or lottery tickets), or in the basement to put stuff away....time and again these Cobra FRS's have been helpful for inexpensive two-way communication.
In the US, I am sure that there is channel saturation in places (malls and sporting events); still, these are so handy if someone is in the car and needs to drop the other person off to get directions or find a parking spot...you will be amazed at the number of uses you will find for them.
This model has about everything you might need....remember that 500mw is only going to go so far...the laws of physics do not change even if the brand name of your product does! UHF transmissions are best when you and the other party are in "line of sight" and not blocked by large buildings, lots of trees, etc. This is just a fact of life.
But in stores or malls, these radios come in sooo handy...one can shop at the "guy store" while your wife looks at clothes or kitchen junk....and each can brouse to their heart's content, then ring the other when it is time to go the opera (or baseball game!!)....grab this deal, it's a winner!

Can you spell J U N K?
Almost perfectThink of the money you save right there. Many people complain that there is no cd player. This is fine with me because I would worry about dust on the lense or a jarring impact would ruin it. Also the dust/dirt would get on my cds and scratch them.
One final note: this radio is loud and the sound carries far and clean. I can hear this radio from at least 100 yds.

The charger is not bad, the battery is really poor...
red means stop and red means go
Great performerThey completely recharge (the little light chnages from red to green ont he charger) in about a day and half, so it's a good idea to have an extra set. It's still better (and cheaper) than buying Alkaline batteries and throwing them away.

Good Quality, Weak Memory
Falls ShortOn the plus side the unit is small, light, and very flexible. I will give it to the wife to record lectures if I can't get more high quality music out of it.
Maddening design flawHowever, mine has an absolutely maddening flaw: the batteries are held in by a small 'door' that hinges from the bottom of the device. The battery door opens at the slightest touch: in fact, if often opens (and the batteries therefore fall out) while in my pocket, without particularly being touched at all. You don't lose your recordings, but you have to re-set all your time and date settings as a result. For me this one flaw almost negates the good features because it makes the device so frustrating to use.
Also, don't assume that the memory cards included or available for this device can be used in a PC-attached card reader: they cannot, since they have a unique proprietary format. So you cannot put these cards into a card reader and import the sound files into your PC.

Nikon Coolpix 885 SYSTEM ERROR
I had high hopes for the Nikon brand nameBut, I'm now about to ship the camera back FOR THE THIRD TIME for repairs for the exact same problem. The zoom lens assembly has a recurring problem that causes the auto-focus to "lose it" after several zoom-in/zoom-out shots in sequence, and then all it'll do is say "SYSTEM ERROR" on-screen and refuses to power up.
Needless to say, this has (Murphy's Law) happened during:
1. A wedding;
2. A 50th Anniversary;
3. 5 birthday parties;
4. A Christmas family reunion, some relatives arriving from Australia.
It's also got a very disappointing power management issue. Well before the "low battery" icon appears, the camera will sporadically power down/reboot upon shooting a picture that requires the flash unit. Yes, it DOES flash, and yes it DOES store the picture. But then you miss the next 2-3 shots because the camera is busy rebooting. Really annoying.
I am DEFINITELY unhappy with Nikon, and I receive no response whatsoever to my letters. My next camera will NOT be a Nikon. Plus, now I have to sell nearly a thousand dollars worth of accessories and batteries on eBay.
Nikon's lost a customer for life here...
Good things do come in small packages!One of my favorite things about the camera is the movie feature. You can make a 40 second movie without sound and play it on your computer. I was impressed with the quality and even in fine mode the 'movie' only takes up the memory space of 7 or 8 pictures. Which is hardly anything if you have the 128 mb card which takes 80 pictures in fine mode, 157 in normal mode and 302 in basic mode.
One of the bonuses of owning a Nikon is that the memory card that it takes is made by several different companies and therefore cheaper and easier to find. The Sonys, on the other hand, only accept Sony Memory sticks, which is very annoying because some computers and printers do not accept the Sony disk, while almost every device will take the one used for Nikon. I bought a device to plug into my USB port that I can insert the disk into to download onto my computer so that the battery of my camera isn't running out while it uploads. Oh while I'm on the subject of batteries another great thing about Nikon is that it has an adapter to charge your battery outside of the camera so if you have 2 batteries, one can be charging while you're using the camera. Oh, and if you are on vacation or something out sightseeing and your battery goes dead you can run into a shop and buy regular camera batteries b/c Nikon made their cameras to accept them too.
Another one of my favorite things is the scene modes. This is something that was important for me because I know very little about photography. I really needed a camera that I could just point and shoot and Nikon was the only brand the scene selection feature where you don't have to focus it and decide whether to use flash or not and all that stuff. The twelve scenes are portrait, party/indoor, night portrait, beach/snow, landscape, sunset, night landscape, museum, fireworks show, close up, copy (black & white), and back light.
Well I hope you found this review helpful. Obviously I'm very happy with my Nikon 885. If your looking for a cute, compact, easy to use camera then this would be a good choice. Good luck!
