This product works great
ok - here goes.We moved apartments, and our new apt has one of those exhausts which are under a microwave mounted over the stove.
So the odours when cooking on the front parts of the range enter the room!Yuck! (And this apt complex is a fancy one :( )
Plus - we cook a lot of Indian ,Italian food, and bake stuff.
So - its an odor fest - yuck!!I was not sure, reading some of these reviews, but I bought one ($20 - what did I have to lose)
and I have a elec. socket right next to the cooking range.

Wow! Odors clear up really well - the odors have been cut by 75% (and that's a lot when making sauces and curries)
then, after cooking (we set it to quick clean during cooking),and clean up is done,we keep it all night / all day,on whisper clean ,and the next day-all odors gone!
I loved it ,and bought 2 more for some more rooms of my apt
I guess the trick is to keep it close to the source of odors
it's compact,works wonderfully,and easy to clean/replace filters,and cheap!

Seems small, but it's really effective
We have two. One of them runs in the bathroom all the time, and works well to eliminate the musty odor. The other is in the kitchen and while it's running all the time, it's a bit more negligable because there's a lot of air circulation. Best to keep it in a smaller area, or very close to the souce of the odor. I still find that an open bowl of arm & hammer works the best...go figure. But you should see the dust they collect...convinces me that they're doing something good. I recomend.

It works!
I was somewhat skeptical since there doesn't seem to be much interest in this product and even a bad review, but for less than $20 it was worth taking a chance. We use ours in the bathroom and it works great. I am now ordering a couple of replacement filters since we have had our unit for over 6 months. For such a small fan, it moves a lot of air and does a fantastic job of removing (and not masking) odor. Highly recommended.

Pretty Good, For Its Price and Intended Purpose
Haven't had it for very long, just a couple of months, but I like it. I had a Honeywell room unit that was okay, but I had no idea how well it was working. With the HB, the air sensor gives you some idea of how well it's working. When first hooked up, the HB showed that the Honeywell was doing a good job of cleaning. At first, I thought maybe I should have just stayed with the Honeywell. I had initially stayed away from using the UV light, after reading that it didn't do anything. Wrong. When I finally switched on the UV light, a lot of my nighttime nasal congestion disappeared. That feature, plus the sensor, makes this model a 4- rather than 3-star product. (Keep in mind tthat this is a one-room unit and not intended for people with severe allergies.)

Seems to have a small but noticeable effect on keeping dust down.

Whisper Quiet ... isn't. But it's no louder than the Honeywell. I also selected Super Saver shipping, saved some money, and got it in five business days. If this unit lasts another year without problems, I'll buy another for another room in my house.

Works great but noisy
I have been using this product for a year now with great results. It really does seem to clean the air and has improved my allergies. The filters are extremely easy to replace when necessary. My only complaint is that it is noisy, too noisy for me to use when I am sleeping.

Worth every penny
I ordered this particular HEPA air purifier with the UV light because it was recommended for my two children. They have many environmental allergies and are always sick with some sort of respiratory illness. I also have allergies. I have REALLY noticed a difference in all of us since buying this air purifier. We wake breathing freely and that's unusual for anyone in this house! The whisper quiet mode is pretty quiet. I comfortably watch tv over the sound. You get used to it and soon barely hear it. In fact, the medium is pretty quiet as well. The highest setting is loud, but it is high so I'd expect that. I run mine 24/7 on Auto mode and love that I can see a readout of the air quality and the way the sensor will automatically adjust the speed to clean the air more or less when needed. Once I slightly burned some microwave popcorn - in another room - and I heard it cycle up to high to clean the air! Well worth the money for the features. If I had to point out one negative I guess it would be that I don't look forward to replacing the pricey filters or UV bulb. At least, according to the booklet, they should last a year.

Silent night
We live in Hawaii and like many people here suffer terribly from allergies, especially when the Kona winds are blowing from the big island, bringing the dreaded "vog" (volcano smog) with them. On top of that, my husband is allergic to our two beloved cats (the cats and I decided to keep him anyway) and I was allergic to his subsequent noisy snoring, so I purchased this item. I must admit I thought it might wind up just being another gadget lying around the house, but I am very pleased to report that it is an extremely useful device that has made our sleep significantly more peaceful and restful. We keep it on automatic most of the time; it's a tad noisy at night if it kicks into high gear, so occasionally we switch it onto whisper quiet before we sleep. I'm so glad we bought it, and I'd recommend it to anyone who suffers from allergies or has pets that they don't want to banish from the house. I also like the streamlined design of the Hamilton Beach model, the others looked too heavy and obtrusive.

Best for the bucks!
I looked everywhere for the best HEPA filter at a reasonable price, and after comparing models that range from $50.00 to $500.00 I selected the Hamilton Beach TrueAir.

I live in a new home, yet even with a central filtration system I noticed a lot of dust on the furniture in certain rooms. My youngest son just turned two and seemed to wake up with a lot of nasal congestion each morning no matter how often we cleaned his room.

This filter did the trick; the air must be better in his room because his nasal congestion was reduced tremendously, and on some mornings he has absolutely none at all. I immediately bought a second unit for my other son.

Many reviews here mention that the unit is noisy, but I want to clarify that it's only loud when the air quality is poor. Once the room's air is clean it quiets down automatically and stays that way as it maintains circulation of clean air. It does all of this automatically and sports a digital readout on the front that shows you the air quality in the room.

The "UV light" on the top is just an indicator (you want this feature as it shows you if the bulb is working or needs replacement). The indicator doesn't bother anyone in my family in the least at night. It really doesn't put off any more light than a digital clock radio, and even then the light is on top of the unit pointing upwards. I don't notice it at all.

I suppose if the goal was absolute pitch blackness one could easily put a small piece of masking tape across the indicator.

In any case I highly recommend the unit. I liked it enough that I bought two of them from Amazon; setup is a snap, they're lightweight but sturdy, and they've proven to me that they work by alleviating my son's nasal congestion in just one day. Not bad. :)

Great Office Cleaner Too!
I bought my HB 04161 air cleaner for my office cubicle and it works great. The item was packaged very nicely with easy instructions for setup.

The Auto setting works quite well with the air quality sensor. This is a feature I highly recommend. Scrape your feet on the carpet in front of the unit and the sensor detects the lowered air quality and increases the fan to a higher setting. It even works for food smells and local foot traffic.

On the lowest setting the unit is very quiet. I leave mine on Auto and turn it off when I go home at night. I also own a Honeywell air cleaner which works well and moves a lot of air but doesn't have all the nice features of the HB unit. I have the 04161 positioned to blow the clean air across the front of my chair where I sit.

Summary: Good value, great features, nice styling, small footprint. One of the few low-end units to offer a UV germicidal light.

MiniDisc Novice
I purchaed my Sony CD/Minidisc (ZS M35) in December 2001 and my Sony Minidisc (MZ-E300) player in March 2003. Even though they were purchaed new about 2 years apart, they both fell apart at the same time.

I went online to find a cleaner and after reading the reviews for the Maxell, I ordered it.

It works wonderfully. No skips and bumps; no highs and lows -- expect for the music. I have one problem, it takes 68 minutes which seems like an extremely long time -- on 6 tracks.

Besides that, it works great and so, I will take an hour out the first of every month (instead of every 10 hours per instructions, which I think is overkill) to keep my electonics on tip top order.

Just what I needed
My Sony portable minidisc recorder was acting up when I recorded and played tracks. It would spontaneously erase the disc and render it unusable, evidently because of a table of contents write error probably due to dust on the lens. I bought this cleaner and used it in 1 minute from getting the package and the player was instantly working like new again.

It worked!
I could not figure out what was wrong with my Sony MD player until a friend suggested I try a lens cleaner. Since I live in the boonies of Michigan, I found this item at Amazon.com and ordered it. As soon as it arrived I tried it out on my MD recorder. It worked! The machine now works like new! I recommend this item highly.

Audio CD only, no video DVD encoding.
This wouldnt play at all in my DVD player, the menu never came up and it wouldnt even detect as an audio CD for some reason. It did, however, work great with my CD player and even allowed to find out my speakers were out of phase which I easily corrected by reversing the positive and negative leads for one of the speakers.

I'll be looking for another cleaner for my DVD player as this one seems to be made more for audio and has no video features as far as I could find.

Great Buy.....More Than Just A Lens Cleaner
After pouring over all the DVD/CD Laser Lens Cleaners here, that vary quite a bit in price, I took the advice of the last reviewer who said they all work about the same, so for the price this one will do the trick. So thanks "an electronics fan from New York"..You were right. The"Memorex CD/DVD Laser Lens Cleaner" cleaned and restored the performance of my DVD player(which is also a CD player), and more. It has 6 little brushes on the disc designed to remove dust and other small particles that may be lurking on your laser lens after hours of play. This ensures a crisp/clear playback.

What the buying info here on the product page didn't tell me, was that seven "Quality Tests and Optimization Tools" are also included on this terrific little gadget. The whole process between the cleaning and the tests took all of about 5 minutes. Once the nice voice told me my lens was clean it instructed me on making sure that I was getting optimum effciency from my set up.

The tests included are 1.Stereo Imaging and Channel ID Check-checks set up of left and right speakers. 2.Polarity Test - checks positive/negative set-up. 3.Sweep Test - will let you know if all your speakers are working correctly. 4.ProLogic Imaging- checks your surround sound. 5.System Balance Check -adjusts for optimum volume levels. 6.Rattle Test - checks for vibration during low frequency emissions. 7. System Purity Test -checks for unwanted interference. If your system doesn't "pass" any of these tests, "the voice" will also tell you how what to do to correct it, or will tell you that your system is at it's optimum level. It will also advise you on how often to clean your DVD player.

I love this thing! It's multifunctional, reusable(keep it stored in the case it comes with), a good brand name and the price is right. Go for it....Laurie

Worked perfectly
I own a Sony 2001 SCD775 CD/SACD Player. Until recently it would play any burned CD's perfectly. During the last several months, it would refuse to recognize burned cd's at all most of the time. This problem seemed to be dirt, as burned cd's are more difficult to read than regular cd's. This Memorex CD/DVD Laser Lens cleaner worked quickly and restored my CD player to perfect working condition for burned and regular CD's. Give this CD cleaner a shot--it's definitely worth the money!

    WELL WHICH ONE IS IT?
YOU MIGHT ASK YOURSELF, 3M YEAH THAT SOUNDS FAMILIAR RIGHT?
WELL THEY SHOULD. THEY ARE AN EXTREMELY INNOVATIVE AND QUALITY DRIVEN COMPANY, BUT THIS PRODUCT SHOULD NOT BEAR THE NAME. HERE'S WHY. FIRST OFF FROM THE VERY BEGINNING YOU ARE UNSURE WHETHER THESE WIPES CLEAN CD'S, CD DRIVES OR BOTH. IN A SITUATION SUCH AS THIS YOU WOULD WANT TO HAVE CAREFUL INSTRUCTIONS. I NEEDED THIS ITEM IN ORDER TO CLEAN MY SCRATCHED CD'S THAT NO LONGER PLAY WITHOUT AN ABUNDANCE OF SKIPPITY SKIPS BUT THIS PRODUCT SEEMS TO NO AVAIL. IF YOU WANT TO CLEAN DUST OFF YOUR CD'S YOU CAN USE A NAPKIN OR TISSUE WHY SPEND TEN DOLLARS ON A PRODUCT THAT REMOVES DUST. WHAT I NEEDED WAS A PRODUCT THAT HELPS SCRATCHED CD'S PLAY BETTER AND THIS PRODUCT DOESN'T SEEM TO FOOT THE BILL.

AS FAR AS CLEANING YOUR CD DRIVE, UNLESS YOU NEED THIS FOR A DISCMAN THIS PRODUCT IS OF NO USE. HEY TRY IT! BUT YOU MAY LOSE A FINGER TRYING TO JAM YOUR HAND INTO YOUR CD DRIVE. I MEAN GET REAL HOW DO YOU WIPE THE INSIDE OF YOUR MACHINE WITH YOUR HAND?

    OK
If you handle your CDs carefully, there's probably no need to ever clean them. But I borrow a lot of discs from my library and I have no idea how they've been treated or where they've been. To avoid possibly transferring dust and other residues into my CD drive and also to be sure the CDs play without skips or mistracking, I like to use this product to clean them first.

The package consists of a small spray bottle containing 3/4 of an ounce of an isopropyl alcohol and water solution and 20 single-use, circular, lint-free wipes about the size of a CD. Clear instructions on proper use are provided by 3M. Basically, you spray one spray of the liquid onto the non-label side of the disc and then wipe from the center out with the wipe. Not rocket science.

The product seems to do a good job. The discs are fingerprint, smudge, lint and dust free afterwards. It does not repair scratches, nor does it claim to do so.

***Update 1/15/04*** I continue to be pleased with this product. Since writing the original review, I've joined Netflix and use the AV-115 kit to clean the DVDs that I get from them. It does a fine job. I find that each wipe can be used for a dozen or more DVDs or CDs as long as it is stored in a clean, dust-free place between uses. Also, I tend to use more than 1 spray of the cleaning fluid per surface to ensure thorough cleaning.

This product IS what it says it IS
**CD and CDRom Clean Wipes and Spray Cleaner**
It is a CD (Compact Disk) & CDRom (CD Read Only Memory) disk CLEANER. It is intended for cleaning dust, oil, and other foreign matter off of the disk surface. That is it!
It is not intended for cleaning a CD Player or CDRom Drive nor does it state that it is intended for that purpose. (CDRom does not = CDRom Drive)
This product is what it says it is and does what it says it does.
It cleans CD's of any type.

    Can't say this is quiet
Perhaps no fan-based air purifier should not allowed to be advertised as quiet. This one is no exception--and I am talking about it at its lowest setting (Sleep). Although it is a bit quieter than my previous fan-based air purifier, it can be clearly heard, even while surrounded by other normal day-time sounds. I can hear it from across the room. Higher settings (Low, Med, High) are worse--I can't stand using Med and High unless I'm out of the room.

I bought at Costco a stand-up cooling fan (with a 21"-by-2.5" air outlet) that is noticeably quieter than this, at roughly the same air output rate.

If you insist on a fan-based air purifier, this may be good enough; just don't expect miracles in terms of quietness. But if you want really quiet or nearly silent, you should consider the Ionic Breeze (although you might find that the slower cleaning rate and the cleaning hassles unacceptable).

    Nice unit!
Works well, does a great job moving the air and cleaning the air as well. Sleeping with it on the lowest setting is fine, but your most effective cleaning is on the highest setting (of course). The only thing keeping it from a five star rating is the over priced replacement HEPA filters. Unit itself is a great deal here on Amazon, couldn't touch the price locally. Am going to order a second unit (or maybe the larger one) for the living room. With 3 dogs, this unit really shines.

    Wonderful product!
I did a lot of research before deciding on the Bionaire 1175. My criteria were: (1) Quality product from a company I knew; (2) True HEPA with a prefilter (see how much I learned?); (3) Functional and nice-looking. I could not be more pleased! The unit absolutely looks great: modern, clean design, well-placed buttons, and the nightlight on the readout looks great. It fits neatly against a wall and has a small footprint. These are aesthetic concerns, true, but the unit has to sit someplace in your home, and I wanted it to look good. The air is drawn in the front and out the top, so you get maximum cleaning without the outflow interfering with the air intake. It truly is quiet; the highest setting could probably be compared to running a regular fan. Every day or two, I can remove a good amount of cat hair and larger dust clumps from the front grille -- and this is just the bigger stuff that's getting caught before it even gets to the filters! So, I know it's cleaning my air, and it looks great doing it. Works for me!!

    A Big Dissapointment
I bought these today at local store in the hope that I would get something better than the Fellowes WriteRights I was using. That hope was quickly dashed as the things were difficult to apply and looked terrible once on the screen. I own a Handspring Visor Deluxe and the CompanionLink screen protector left large areas around the sheet exposed. The adhesive these sheets use is too tacky and causes a very large number of air bubbles to appear even during the most careful application. And the excessive tack makes them difficult to remove. I went through 4 of them before just giving up and going back to my WriteRights. I don't say this about many products, but these things are just truly a waste of money. The WriteRights may decrease contrast and sharpness a little, but are a far superior product.

    clear and...scratchy
Well if its all about clearity then these are wounderful you can see the screen like it isnt there (the cover) but you cant press the stylus very hard at all or your screen will still be damaged. So it all depends what you need it for.

The only Screen Protector you should consider
At least you can see clearly your PDA screen. When these gets scratched up, use a dab of STP Son of a Gun on the Screen Protector, and you can get an additional month out of them... Don't buy Writerights!!! These are truly the best ones out there!!

    Sacrificed utility for looks...
Works great, if you can make it work. The main problem is the design of the handle, if you can call it that. There is so little area to hang onto with your thumb and finger to turn the wheel. Easy enough when there is no load, but once you have a wet disc loaded... take out the pliers! They should have designed it with a better handle. If you have to go through several hundred DVDs at a time like I do, it's pure torture.

    works well but replacement problem
This product does work well in removing fingerprints and preventing skips but it recommends replacing the cleaning pad after 30 cleanings, or sooner if the pad looks dirty. It also gives intructions on how to replace it. It states that replacement pads and cleaning fluid refills are available from your dealer. This I have found to be untrue since I have not been able to find the pads or fluid anywhere.

    Very good product
Cleans off all of the dirt and oil that is left from people handling the DVDs. A must buy for the person that rents DVD's from the video store.

A not so good Internet connection
Well, it is very useful if you use it to download emails or send them while on the road, but.. If you want to surf the web for a long time... I do not reccomend it, it disconnects after a determinate amount of time. I prefer a wireless option, that is, using your cell phone as an wireless modem, this way it doesn't matter how much time you spend online...

    PalmModem Connectivity Kit in question.
To use the Palm Modem you have to belong or sign up for unlimited service to: AT&T, Compuserve, Earthlink, PSINet or if networked at work, Unix Verio Windows NT RAS server.

When connecting to the Avantgo.com, the modem will sync to the site for just download enough informtion for the e-mails or web site. It appears in order to go to another web clipping, the modem has to re-connect, which seems like a hassle.

However, for limited internet usage, and could also be used for stock market symbols, the modem will connect to the web clipping and then shut off.

The modem has limited uses and is only a land line with no wireless use. The modem also uses 2 tripple A batteries, without recharable option.

    Reliable Connection
Ever since Palm began releasing modem products for their PDAs, having one as a backup connectivity device has been a priority for me.

Sure you can do a litle web surfing but that is not its' true calling or intention. Checking your eMail is what this modem is all about and where it shines like the true star it is. Setup is easy and the supplied software is not the best but will get you where you want to go.

Battery life is great and that makes it always a good device to carry along on any business trip.
