I been looking for a decent lanses for my minolta.. Looked everywhere and compare the prices. Amanzon.com has the cheapest price..

Outstanding Value and Performance.
I have purchased two of these lenses (autofocus version) for our Nikon N-70. I dropped the first lens and something came loose. This is a superb lens. I studied the Modern Photography Magazine ratings to select this lens, which was/is the sharpest zoom lens in the 20-120 range. Not even Nikon or Canon can beat this lens for sharpness across the focal range. Spherical Aberration is marginally higher than an average lens with this focal range, so you wouldn't want to shoot professional architecture photos with this lens. Tamron makes a semi-pro lens with an F-2.8 across a similar zoom range, but it is no sharper than this lens.

Not the latest anymore, but still excellent
Like so many other amateur photographers, I grew weary of ALWAYS having to bring along a slew of lenses when I travel. Even a two-zoom outfit comprising 28-70 and a 75-300 mm. lenses sometimes became wearisome, as there are times when changing lenses *at all* is simply too much of a bother. So I took a chance and bought a Tamron 28-200 Super II all-in-one zoom. I picked Tamron because this is the company that consistently has been the leader in the design and manufacture of this type of lens

I have used the lens for over a year now and I have not been disappointed. For most situations and uses the optics are quite adequately sharp, and the convenience of the design is simply marvellous. The color rendition is good, the mechanics of the lens are solid and well-designed, and the snap-in lens cap design is ingenious.

So why not five stars? Well first of all, it should be pointed out that the Super II is no longer the latest or most compact 28-200 made by Tamron. Their newest version is actually so small that it uses 62 mm filters instead of the 72 mm. ones needed by the Super II. Second, there's no such thing as a "free lunch" in this world, and potential users of this type of lens should understand that there are tradeoffs when one uses one general purpose lens instead of several more specialized ones. For example, the maximum aperture is fairly slow (3.8 at the shortest focal length; 5.6 at 200 mm.) This can pose problems when shooting in low light or when trying to capture very fast action. Third, more critical users will surely notice that corner sharpness, particularly at wider apertures, is simply not as good as one would expect from top quality 28-70 or 70-210 zooms. Finally, images of buildings or other structures featuring straight lines and ninety degree angles will reveal some linear distortion. These shortcomings are unlikely to pose problems for the casual snapshooter, but if images are enlarged up to 11 x 14 or else one uses slide film for projection on a large screen, the compromises do sometimes become evident.

Not to dwell on the negative, however, overall, this lens has surprised me with the fine quality of its optics. As I look at the fine candids of my family that I've captured with this lens, I am convinced that this zoom has proven to be an excellent investment.

        The Only Lens You Need
What a great lens. No longer need to carry around two lenses. Compact and great pictures.

Great lens overall, with few limitations
I bought this as my second lens for a new Canon ELAN 7e/EOS body. Being an experienced photographer, I liked what I saw, right away. It comes with a nice metal reversible lens hood, and I also got a free 1.4 teleconverter from Tamron. It felt good, and mounted securely and easily to the camera. I first shot a few rolls of closeups. I put it on a tripod, used 400ASA and 800ASA film, and was very pleased with what I got. Good macro lens! I have used it for hundreds of photos in varying situations since then, and not been disappointed. It's not a 'fast' lens, but quite good for the price. I highly recommend using fast film, i.e. 800ASA or better. Professional news/newspaper photographers use 800 or better almost exclusively. It's good film, and allows you to use a slower lens, like this one, with few drawbacks. If you use this lens for photos you intend to enlarge to say 8" X 10" or better, stick with slide film, at a slow speed, under 100ASA. A tripod will be essential of course, but this lens will give you the sharpness that slow film is meant for. Buy a good multicoated filter to screw on, and always use the lens cover, and you should be happy for years with this lens. I have used Tamron for over 2 decades, and I think they make some excellent lenses for the money.
The only reason I won't give it a 5 star rating is due to is 'slowness', having only an F4 rating. This is not a criticism of the lens, just a function of how much you spend. It is a 5 star lens when looked at in terms of price/value.

Great optics for the money.Solid build quality.Best warranty
I purchased Tamron AF 70-300mm LD lens for Canon over a month ago. The first roll of film was a bit of disappointing. I liked colors but some pictures lacked sharpness (fuzzy). After that I purchased introduction photography book published by Kodak. I used tripod and Kodak Gold 200 color print film. Pictures were developed on 5x7 photographs at York Labs. All pictures of second roll turned out very nice and sharp (especially considering 200 film on 5x7 pictures). I even made picture of caterpillar in macro mode at 300 mm and f/8 and this turned out very nice as well. All pictures (including ones taken at focal length of 300 mm) turned out very nice. Ultra telephoto lens is demanding but wide-angle lens is forgiving. You have to consider it when you use telephoto lens. You need solid technique; otherwise, you might be disappointed if you take handheld pictures with lower shutter speeds. It is pretty hard to make sharp pictures even at 1/250 shutter speed and 200mm. Tripod works well though. The larger focal length the harder it gets. I would not feel comfortable with anything slower than 1/250s. Some people mentioned that f/8 gives better results. That is true pretty much for any lens. But at this aperture you need tripod when using ISO 100 films unless you are in sun. If you can't use tripod but you want to use this lens then you might use faster films (IS0 200 or ISO 400) to reduce camera shake. Build quality is good and great warranty gives you peace of mind. Customer service is quick too (don't worry my lens is not broken but I had some technical questions to Tamron). This lens is also sold as Nikon AF 70-300mm ED and users seem to enjoy it as well (even though they pay 100$ more). Focusing is kind of slow, especially in low-light conditions and at larger focal lengths (i.e. 300 mm). You can't blame lens for it because camera does focusing. At this low amount of light and narrow angle (7 degrees - camera gets not much lights through lens). It is not Tamron but nature of telephoto lens. This is why camera haunts in low-light conditions. Lens comes with lens hood (lens shade) so you don't have to buy one for this lens. Overall, I am very pleased with pictures and expect even better pictures on ISO 100 films and 4x6 prints. Great lens for the money. Period.

Edit: After almost a year of using it, I am pleased with this camera. Lens is a bit heavy compared to my fixed 50mm lens (but it is 300mm lens so it is to be expected). Best candit shots are taken when people are not aware of camera.

          Tiffen Lenses
The lenses are great. I received them on time but the guide book was missing. As of today, 7/4/03, I have not heard anyting from the company about my e-mail inquiry on the book. So it is experiment to find out how the filters work and in what situations to use them in.

          Great Filters, Even Better Price!
I purchased these filters after searching long and hard to find the best value for the dollar. These filters allow me to obtain the results I seek with my digital / 35mm cameras. The polarizer filter is a must for shooting sky shots, and enhancing the color of the overall picture. The color warming filter adds depth to your pictures, for an overall effect of smoothness.

The other two filters are a bonus as far as I'm concerened, as we all know, the UV Haze filter is the first filter to get if for nothing eles, to protect the lens of the camera from scratches.(better to replace a filter than a lens) I've yet to experiment around with the color enhancing filter but, rest assured it won't stay lonely for long!!

Overall, this kit is a great deal at a great price!!!

          It's a component
The filter itself traps a lot of dust, especially when used with the prefilter. However, it is part of the overall system works with two specific models, therefore, shortcomings of the filter are shortcomings of the entire assembly. The only problem I have with the filter itself is that it is very expensive. That is why I am giving it four stars instead of five.

          helps asthmatics a great deal
This product is more energy-efficient than many, which is a big plus for an item that many (like me) leave going 24 hours a day, due to bad allergies and asthma. These have helped my mom a great deal at her place, though she did have to return one unit that developed oily spots inside, then became noisy.

Pretty Good, For Its Price and Intended Purpose
Haven't had it for very long, just a couple of months, but I like it. I had a Honeywell room unit that was okay, but I had no idea how well it was working. With the HB, the air sensor gives you some idea of how well it's working. When first hooked up, the HB showed that the Honeywell was doing a good job of cleaning. At first, I thought maybe I should have just stayed with the Honeywell. I had initially stayed away from using the UV light, after reading that it didn't do anything. Wrong. When I finally switched on the UV light, a lot of my nighttime nasal congestion disappeared. That feature, plus the sensor, makes this model a 4- rather than 3-star product. (Keep in mind tthat this is a one-room unit and not intended for people with severe allergies.)

Seems to have a small but noticeable effect on keeping dust down.

Whisper Quiet ... isn't. But it's no louder than the Honeywell. I also selected Super Saver shipping, saved some money, and got it in five business days. If this unit lasts another year without problems, I'll buy another for another room in my house.

          Works great but noisy
I have been using this product for a year now with great results. It really does seem to clean the air and has improved my allergies. The filters are extremely easy to replace when necessary. My only complaint is that it is noisy, too noisy for me to use when I am sleeping.

          Worth every penny
I ordered this particular HEPA air purifier with the UV light because it was recommended for my two children. They have many environmental allergies and are always sick with some sort of respiratory illness. I also have allergies. I have REALLY noticed a difference in all of us since buying this air purifier. We wake breathing freely and that's unusual for anyone in this house! The whisper quiet mode is pretty quiet. I comfortably watch tv over the sound. You get used to it and soon barely hear it. In fact, the medium is pretty quiet as well. The highest setting is loud, but it is high so I'd expect that. I run mine 24/7 on Auto mode and love that I can see a readout of the air quality and the way the sensor will automatically adjust the speed to clean the air more or less when needed. Once I slightly burned some microwave popcorn - in another room - and I heard it cycle up to high to clean the air! Well worth the money for the features. If I had to point out one negative I guess it would be that I don't look forward to replacing the pricey filters or UV bulb. At least, according to the booklet, they should last a year.
