Lexar Media 128MB 8X Compactflash Digital Film USB with Jumpshot Cable

    Great Compactflash card
I bought a 128mb card and am very happy with it. It's very nice and fast. It does cost more than some on the open market, but that's ok. It has a 5 year warranty, which isn't as long as I would like, but it's been my experience that in electronics if you are going to have a failure in workmanship you will usually find out about it early on. 5 years is acceptable.

As far as speed of the card I find it quite acceptable also. I have seen speed test of other cards and the usb enabled cards are much faster with my camera (nikon 990) if your camera doesn't support usb enabled code. Then I wouldn't bother spending the extra money that it costs. But at the time I bought my card I got it with a rebate and it was just a bit more than the others on the market.

As for the jumpshot cable, it will only work with compact flash cards that are usb enabled. I don't know of any other cards besides Lexar that have this yet.

    It's fast!!!!
I bought this CF card to replace my SanDisk 64MB CF card. I had heard about Lexar's reputation as making one of the fastest CF cards out there and thought I'd try it despite the price premium. Some digital camera users have said that the digital camera can only take advantage of Lexar's USB capability if it knows about it (i.e. it was programmed into the firmware/hardware to support the speed optimization). I received the card and proceeded to compare my SanDisk 64MB card with the Lexar one.

To do the informal test, I snapped an uncompressed TIF at 1600x1280 using my Nikon Coolpix 950 (a camera that supposedly is *not* optimized for Lexar media). With the SanDisk card, it took approx 45 seconds between snapping the shot and being able to use the camera again (it's loading to the media). With the Lexar card, it was reduced to 25 seconds!!! THAT'S FAST! ...and for an unoptimized camera as well.

I currently use the card either in the camera, my Compaq iPaq PDA, or in a PCMCIA slot via an adapter. I haven't used the JumpShot cable yet as I only have Win95 or WinNT installed. That will changed in a few weeks when I migrate to Win2000, but I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

As another test, I copied 60MB of mp3s from my laptop to the SanDisk and the same 60MB of data to the Lexar. The Lexar was by far much faster.

    Fast, portable memory card
The Lexar 128MB USB-enabled compact flash card is really great for my 3 mega-pixel camera. Its capacity is relatively large, and it is faster by far than the earlier cards I had. Further, the Jumpshot reader is so compact that it is easy to carry around in the camera bag, and then it's a quick moment to download the pictures to any USB-equipped computer. It is a little pricey, and it's true that most cards don't work with the Jumpshot cable because they are not USB-enabled--but for me it's a great product that I use almost every day.

    Good Light, Nice Bonus
I got this work light as a bonus when I bought the reconditioned cordless drill package 6233DWBEL (a great buy!). It's a good work companion and I can't complain about its convenience and performance. It uses the same batteries as the drill and many other 14.4V Makita products. But, this light just doesn't have the same feel of sturdiness as my PorterCable 19.2V work lights. The body and the swivel head mechanism don't appear to be as durable as the PorterCable model. Don't get me wrong. Makita is one of my brands, and I love the drill, but I would not buy this flashlight by itself at the price being asked. Maybe I'm partial to PorterCable, but the bodies of their work lights seem to be better quality.

    The BEST tool I own.....Period!
I know it sounds crazy but this is the best tool I own. This flashlight was free mail-in rebate when i bought a 14.4volt drill about 8 years ago. I'm now building a new house and use this flashlight every day. It's take'n ALOT of abuse over the years (being dropped more times than I can count). I own alot of power tools, battery and electric, but use no single tool more than this light. The years of dirt and grim have taken there toll on the power contacts in the swivel head so I have to swivel the head to keep the light lit sometimes now. [The price]is alot to spend on a flashlight but I'm here ... to buy another one because I can't live without it.

    Bright
I own a Makita 9.6 volt flashlight and love it. This 14.4 is much brighter. The only complaint would be that it is not balanced well because of the heavier battery.

Priced too high for the speed
The card seems to work fine, but with a Canon S40 4 mp camera, the speed of taking pictures is no better than my Lexar 12x 512mb compactflash card. Save your money and go for an equivalent but lower priced card.

    Very smart choice
I have two of these cards. One for my Canon S230, and one for my Ipaq. The high speed read/write speeds are most impressive. It allows that camera to be ready for the next picture before I have it framed. And the low power usage makes it possible to get many more pictures out of one charge with the camera. Canon says you can get about 475 shots out of a charge with the s230, I have managed to get as many as 520 shots on one charge! The cards have never failed on me. Even with the abuse of being thrown in my pack when I go mountain biking, they are always perfect!
The card in my Ipaq holds a lot of files, many MP3s, and MPEG videos. I am able to play back compressed 320x240 videos from it on my Ipaq pretty well. Both cards have been very good to me!
This card is a perfect blend of speed, reliability, power consumption, and price. Strongly considering buying another.

    Very Fast
I was skeptical at first that this CompactFlash Card would 'really' be 'high speed', but our own test confirmed that my Canon PowerShot S50 would be ready for the next shot in one second as opposed to the almost 3 seconds we were experiencing with the small card that comes with the camera.

    You'll Love This Flash
What an excellent addition to the DSC-F828! For a flash with all these features it is a bargain. The focus assist lamp works great even in low light. The bounce ability gives your indoor shots the look of soft natural light. The 40ft plus distance is great. The modeling function is an added plus. What more could you ask for in an external flash. Why only 4 stars for such a fantastic flash? The thing sucks up batteries like there's no tomorrow. Get some rechargeable AA Ni-MH batteries, a charger and your set.

    Greatly Improves shots
I use it on my Mavica CD500 and on my wife's DSC-V1 and we are both very pleased with it. Because it communicates with the camera, it fires a pre-flash to determine ideal exposure and then takes the shot. The pictures look like if they were taken during daytime, not with a centered, white "burn" that makes the picture more bidimensional. It's strong enough that when used during daylight it fills the shadows (i.e. under the eyes).

A Must Have Accessory for the Sony DSC-F828
This is an excellent flash. The built-in flash on the F828 is okay, but the HVLF32X flash vastly improves the quality of indoor and evening shots. I can tilt the flash up and use the built-in diffuser to backlight an entire living room, yet keep the subjects in the foreground properly exposed. Group shots turn out great as the light is bright and spreads out wide and even. This flash can illuminate an entire living room, or put light on close ups with just the proper exposure. A great convenience is that when this flash is attached to the F828, the F828 automatically switches to an external flash mode and disables the built-in flash. No need to fumble with the settings. Another convenience is that it uses easy to find and stock AA batteries.

    good but not perfect
the product is excellent as a data storage device, but not a backup alternative. it failed to restore all after a full reset of the hanspring. a system error appeared after installing the card into the springboard module and had to be reset. i guess i have to buy the backup card for more $$$.

    This Product works great!!!
This product works like a dream. I needed a memory expantion for my pda, i just popped this card in and my memory was instantly 10mb rather than my previous 2mb. I would reccomend this product to anybody who owns a handspring visor and is in need of a memory expantion. It is also priced very fairly. At just 39.99 it is way worth the money.

    FLASH USB Rocks
Find it strange that I do not have this item? Read on:
I own a 1GB flash USB gizmo... brand is not important... read on.
The jist is: I can't work without it any more:
I have my own program that copies my files (you can make your own batch file), i run it before I shut down my PC (or NoteBook).
So my files are always with me...
    Awesome.
If you do not have a flash card, you should stay in the 19th century.
    Just find a good one...

    Rugged!!!
Ok, I have to preface this with saying that I've bought lots of merchandise online...and never before felt compelled to write a review.

This device is awesome. It's small and fast...but best of all, it's built like a TANK (ok, a plastic tank). Here's the story:

My JumpDrive went MIA a few weeks ago. Having some pretty critical stuff on it, I decided to turn my house upside-down. After a long search, I asked my wife if she'd seen it. She gave me this funny look and proceeded to explain how she found it in the dryer...AFTER not one 60-min dry cycle, but TWO!!!

So, it went through a normal wash cycle, and two 60-min high-heat dry cycles. I gave it a couple of days to be sure it hadn't collected any other moisture...AND IT WORKS! This was about two weeks ago, and I've used it daily since. OUTSTANDING!

Now, a buddy of mine is currently having a "drive not formatted" problem with his drive (potentially losing his data--but Lexar support is going to try to recover it), so I won't claim it's perfect. I am, however, sufficiently impressed with my device that I'm still giving it 5 stars.

    Olympus 32 MB SmartMedia Card

    panorama gets addictive
As the other reviews make plain, how much you appreciate the Olympus card depends on whether you use the panorama function. If you are a new user who doesn't think they will need the function, try out your camera before deciding. Using an Olympus D360L, which has digital zoom but not optical zoom, I found that there were shots that were *just* too wide, esp. of gardens and buildings. So while the "traditional" panorama might be of four pictures stitched together to get the horizon, a city skyline, a view from the top of the Empire State Building, etc., I now use the panorama function regularly just to stitch two photos together and get a slightly wider view on a subject. Some days (as a tourist) these are between a quarter and a third of the photos I take. That's when it becomes too inconvenient to switch cards and the Olympus card is worth the extra charge.

Might not be worth the price premium
SmartMedia is sold under several brands. Olympus branded SmartMedia allows you to take "panorama" shots. Essentially, you take multiple shots while making sure to overlap edges. You then reassemble these multiple shots using the "Camedia" software that came with your Olympus camera. The difference is that when an Olympus brand SmartMedia card is used, your digital camera keeps exposure settings constant across these multiple shots; which makes for a consistent panorama when you reassemble the individual shots via your computer.

This is a nice feature, but not a feature most of us use often. If you are going to purchase multiple SmartMedia cards, you might be able to do with just one or two Olympus brand cards - especially since they cost more than other brands. I use two 32Mb other brand cards, and save my two 8Mb Olympus brand cards for when panorama shots present (since you can switch the cards out at anytime - unlike traditional camera film).

    Worth the price premium!
This is a great card even though you don't really pay apremium. Of the 3 32 MB Smart media cards currently on amazon thisone this the median price with the Sandisk card being ( )less and the New Media card ( ) more (as of 5/26/00). If you own an olympus digital camera with a panorama feature this is the card to get and is certainly worth the extra money. I use this card more than my 64 MB SanDisk because it has that awesome panorama mode! END

    Expensive Anywhere You Go
MP3's are great, but the card's for the RCA Lyra are just way too expensive. Amazon's got the best price for it, that I've seen unless you buy in multipacks (and you are rich!).

Just by the 64 MB Lyra player!
This card is about the same price as the entire Lyra 64MB player which includes the card, the card reader, cigarette adapter,... It is a better value just to buy the whole kit and not pay extra for the card which is basically a relabeled SanDisk card anyway.

    Came with my RCA Lyra
Well, to start out, I beleive my Lyra was cheaper than this card itself. For about $10 or so more, you can buy a Viking 128 MB card, so this card seems to be quite the rip-off.

Performance wise though, the card works great. I would like a little more room to hold my MP3s and possibly digital camera images, as the Compact Flash card is compatible with most good models.
