Antec CompactFlash to PC Card Adapter Card

    Incompatibility issue....
I have no doubts that this is a great product, if you're running a Windows system or Mac OS 9. But, I found out the hard way that it is (currently) NOT compatible with Mac OSX (I'm running 10.2.3) -- it caused a serious kernal panic forcing me to reboot.
Incidentally, when I booted my system into OS9.2, the card adapter worked beautifully -- I was able to read and write to my compactflash cards very quickly, without a hitch.

I just wanted to alert any OSX users about the incompatibility since sytem requirements are not listed for this item.

A MUST if you have a lap top.
The short and simple of it. I love this little item. I purchased a Canon Digital Elph for Xmas, which I love, and after the first time of connecting the camera to my laptop and going through the software jive and taking way toooo long, I went searching for something easier. Now, I take my pictures, pop out the CF card and slip it in to my Antec CF Adapter and then slap that in my laptop and I have instant access to all my images. No software menus to scroll through. As soon as you plug in the CF Adapter card in your PCMCIA slot, it shows up like another hard drive and list all the jpg's you took on your camera. I purchased this adapter from Amazon about 4 weeks ago for [$$$] bucks, a steal. I see they have increase the price a little since no one else was going toe to toe with them in the price arena. Still a great buy for [a little more money].

    Great price
No need for cables anymore for the laptop- read the CF card like a hard drive - transfer pictures, use for backup of files - anything.

    Flash Key USB
find I can not install on my Windows 98. Wish to return.

    Very useful device
This comes in very handy when you want to transfer files from computer to computer. I do a lot of work at home, so it comes in handy when I am moving large data files back and forth between home and office. If you have windows XP or 2000, you don't need any installation...just plug it in and it works. If you use windows 98, you do need to install some drivers (that you can download) but this is a fault of the OS, not the flash drive.

    Serious USB pen drive
A great device. Doesn't look like a toy like some others. Auto recognition except for Win 98 which requires a driver, easily downloadable from the web site.

      OLD product
      01-27-03:
You can get the USB 2.0 version for 59.99 at CompUsa and many other places. So spending 62 bucks for the older slower technology is just silly. USB 2.0 is 10-40 times faster.

Keep it simple, and this works great!
Got this from my friend who payed about $20 for it and then upgraded to USB2 so he gave me the "old" one.
It's great! I never installed any drivers! right away I used it constantly to move files from my PC to my PDA, mp3s, e-books, etc. Since a computer just detects it as a removable USB drive, you can use it anywhere with almost any machine.
I used it with SD, CF and Memory Sticks, on a Win2k machine and a Linux box.

Those "all-in-one" deals are okay, but who wants 6 "Removable Drives" popping up every time you plug it in??? yech.

      On the downside:
This is obviously way overpriced. I suggest buying it elsewhere.
And I suppose if you really want to shuffle files directly between cards, this one isn't for you.
Note: Never try to format a Memory Stick from your PC using this card reader. Now that adapter doesn't work anymore. :( (but the rest do :) )

      Compact is the key
'Professor' from Pittsburg said that CompUSA sells a USB2 version, so I went to the store and checked. Unfortunately, what I found was a USB2 version that comes in a rectangular box (with multiple slots) about 2.5 times bigger. For desktop use, that's probably alright, but the FlashGO is small enough to tote around -- fits right in your shirt pocket! The transfer speed is really not that dismal; beats using a Zip-drive any day. Very reliable, works everytime it's plugged into a computer.

Don't drop this one on your foot!
Mag Instrument S5D016 Black 5D Cell MagLite Flashlight. Over the years, I just needed and "HAD TO HAVE" that bigger flashlight! It's a guy thing. This is the one (and the 6D-Cell) light that lots of law enforcement carried. It was effective as a flashlight and as a tool if the use of force needed to be escalated in subduing a BG (Bad Guy) - Orders given with confidence and with commanding voice, physical force including night stick or Mag Light, side arm, shot gun).

There is a lot going on within the technology of flashlights recently. LED, Lithium batteries, focus bezels, etc. The Mag has fallen from grace a bit technologically, but is still a great flashlight for police / emt INCLUDING looking for and if need be using the light defensively as a weapon on criminals, cockroaches / terrorists or signalling for a chopper pick up. The Mag Instrument S5D016 Black 5D Cell MagLite Flashlight is very durable and they are proven reliable. But even the police and emt and military are switching over to more tecnologically advanced products and techniques to go along with the new equipment.. They have to. Their lives and the lives of others depend on the best equipment available. And for a long time that was Mag Light.

Don't get me wrong. I've depended on Mag lites of all sizes for years. But head to head , theSurefire brands have quickly surpassed Mag lite in every important aspect of flashlights - usable light power, smaller size and lighter weight.
The Mag Instrument S5D016 Black 5D Cell MagLite Flashlight is a good value and I have several in the house and the vehicles. But they're being replaced by Surefires as they wear out.

      good, but large
Unless you are a police officer, or just an exceptionally violent person, you really don't need a flashlight this large. Go for the 3-cell one (it's actually much easier to swing in a ..., anyway). By the way... notice how they have an odd number of batteries in all these flashlights... you think maybe it's a secret arrangement with Duracell (snicker)???

      A real man's flashlight
This is one great flashlight, fit for a king!

Definitely not overkill! I bought two!
Even for a 3.34 megapixel point-and-shoot digital camera (e.g. Nikon 990), this 96MB card isn't overkill, considering when each image is about 1MB at 2048x1536 at highest JPEG quality. Uncompressed TIFF files are 9MB _each_, although they're painfully slow to save. So, I bought two, and I'm thinking about getting a third one for longer trips.

Take Two, they're small (and geting smaller)
I now have 3 SanDisk CF cards that I use between digital cameras and a Windows Pocket PC. The oldest (15 MB) is well over 4 years old and I've found them all to be reliable and worked in a broad variety of cameras, readers, and PC Card laptops.

With my 2 Mpixel camera set to uncompressed TIFF, each shot takes 5MB, so I bought a second 96MB card.

Complaints? make 'em cheaper and faster (a 5MB write takes a l-o-n-g time).

no such thing as too much memory
is there such a thing as too much memory? i think not. this product deserves more than one star. san disk has a great reputation and i've never had problems with any of their flash memory. if you don't need that much memory, get a smaller capacity card.

      What makes a GREAT player?
I originally wrote a very wordy review, but deleted that in favor of stating just what you need to know. The RD2211 is small enough to be easily portable. It's easy to find and play the tracks you want to hear. The sound quality, even at its dismal 75 db signal to noise ratio, is sufficiently good for everyday use. The solid state construction means it won't skip while jogging or simply walking to the train platform. Let's skip past all that, and get down to the real issues.

First and last, this player is usable only with WMA files. The advertised MP3 compatibility is accomplished via the included software: it converts MP3 to RCA's proprietary MPX format. You need not read farther if your music library is predominantly MP3.

The advertised 128 MB total memory is supplied as two 64 MB CF cards. This is unacceptable. I have not decided if it's enough of a deal breaker to take advantage of Circuit City's 30 day return policy. My intention at the time of purchase was to swap the overly generous 256 MB CF card in my camera for the 128 MB card. This is no longer feasible, and my options are to return the device, or purchase a 128 MB card.

The CF card is removed from the player and inserted into the supplied USB CF card reader to upload music. I perceive real longevity issues related with doing this on a regular basis. The player "boots" its playback programs for WMA and MP3 from the CF card. In theory, this should make software upgrades easy. In practice, it's one more worry on two fronts. The player sometimes has difficulty reading the CF card; the card needs to be removed and re-inserted to "boot" the player. This gives rise to the robustness issues I note above. The second concern is that the required files are not supplied (that I can find) in the software installation. I made several copies of the player software in several locations on my harddisk, and even archived a copy on CD-R. (I find this last to be the most ironic; I recently retired a CD-R MP3 player because of the incessant skips.)

The CF card reader connects to the PC via USB, and appears as a removeable drive on the file system. The supplied driver is not specific to the RD2211; I used the card reader to download pictures from my camera (although it makes no sense to, since the camera connects via USB also, obviating the wear and tear on the card and connector). This works fine for me, since I still run Windows 2000 on my primary PC; the driver didn't work on my XP notebook.

Uploading music files is a simple drag and drop operation in Windows' explorer. (WMA files only; see above about MP3.) This, at least, was as advertised.

Will it use all flash cards.
I want to get an 128MB and maybe 256 MB for this device. Does anyone see a problem with this.

      Very easy to use!
I''ve gone through many different mp3 players. this is the only one that has lasted me more than a mere week. i've had this for almost a year and so far it has been the best! A real good thing is definitely the radio. even though many people say that it doesn't work, it really does and works well.

It is very easy to use and it comes with a remote so it makes it even easier! But, unfortunately perfection does not come in most mp3 players. this product does have some drawbacks. this player is a little big. also, the cf (compact flash) cards that come with the playerare 2 64 mb not 1 128. Other than that though, this mp3 player is great! u should definitely buy it!

great camera if you like devil eyes
Love this camera. Portable, easy, moron proof. But, you better never use the flash to photograph your kids. You will see the most amazing red eye, even using the red eye reduction. I just wish I had bought it from Amazon. Then at least it would have given me devil eyes for 100 bucks less.

      Pentex Camera is the best
this is my second Pentex. This particular camera is a little more advanced than my first but incredibly easy to operate and load. The photographs are bright and crisp and always clear. As you can tell this is my favorite!

      Perfect Point n Shoot
I've had this camera since it was introduced by Pentax (1997) and it's been a total pleasure to use. I have an APS and a manual 35mm SLR but this is the one I use when I MUST get the shot right. Like having Derek Jeter come up to bat just when you need him.

      INDESTRUCTABLE...holds a ton of photos...listen to this!
I left this compact flash card in my jacket pocket by mistake and WASHED THE JACKET IN MY WASHING MACHINE. As I was unloading the washer, I saw it at the bottom of the washer....I immediately wiped it off and put it back in my camera...hoping it was ok. ALL 133 photos were STILL THERE!!!

      Worth every penny!

      Love this card!
I have used it multiple times in a single day, and it produces great results without fail.

      Works great!
The previous reviewers seem a little confused. It's a type I card, works the same as any other type I card. You can pay extra for a high speed card, but this one runs the same speed as any other standard speed card. Doesn't seem fair to me to post a review without understanding the product, or to compare to products in a different price range.

AMBICOM COMPACT FLASH POCKET PC MODEM
      Made by Ambicom
        Amazon base price: $
        Average review score:

        Works!
I have used the AmbiCom CF card modem with 2 PDAs so far (HP Jornada 525 and Dell Axim x5) and both devices were plug-and-play without any problems. I specifically like the AmbiCom card for its slim design. The AmbiCom features a flip-out phone connector which means there is no added bulk on the end that sticks out of the PDA (compare to the Socket CF card modem). Since I normally use this modem card when traveling, this is an important detail for me. The price is also better than the Socket card. As soon as the modem makes a connection, a green control light comes on so you always know when you're connected (PDAs do not have modem sounds enabled, so this is a good thing to have).

There is, however, one thing I like better about the Socket card, and that is Socket's Whereareyou? software which allows its user to program the modem for use in other countries. A definite plus in my opinion, since I do occasionally travel abroad. But I have not used the Socket card, so I don't know how well this software works. As it is, I am perfectly happy with my AmbiCom, even if that means having to get a little more information off the Internet before I travel to a foreign country.

Anyone looking for a reliable, slim-design card at a good price will not be disappointed with the AmbiCom.

Pretty good CF Wi-Fi for an expert user
I bought this for my Dell Axim X5. I've noticed pretty good peformance, but the documentation and software leave a bit to be desired.

The documentation was one sheet of paper folded in half, with no usage instructions at all.

The UI for the driver is fairly slow, and the usage is a bit weird. My biggest issue is that it doesn't seem to remember AP names and only allows one WEP setting, so switching between networks is tedious.

Great Price for a Great Piece of Hardware!
I just ordered this product a few weeks ago and it works great! I get to surf the internet, send email and download music, movies, and software all on my Pocket PC! The Ambicom CompactFlash Modem gives me good speed for surfing, too! Highly recommended by me!
