Battery drain has altered my view.****************************************************************This FlashPath adapter allows you to use your 3.5" floppy drive (usually the A: drive) to view images from your SmartMedia cards. It is of course lots easier than any USB cable, and probably better than most card readers. However....I find this adapter reads slower than my SanDisk for MultiMediaCards. In addition, as it is shipped from Olympus, it can only handle 64 meg cards, and requires a download to allow it to read a 128 (or larger) meg card.
Practacality & efficiency
- Specifically designed for use with digital still cameras and camcorders, handheld PDAs, portable MP3 players and other products that use SmartMedia for standard or extended data storage
- Compatible with today's most popular operating systems, such as Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000, OS/2 and Mac OS
- No moving parts means much lower power consumption, and skip-free playback
- A non-volatile storage medium - your data is not lost when batteries die
- Store, erase, and reuse - PNY SmartMedia Cards can be written and rewritten thousands of times
Used price: $12.99

Works as advertisedI haven't had any problems at all while using this item. The extra 64 megs of space is great. My only problem with it could be the slow speed of the card, but that could be due to the fact that it is attached to a PDA.

Very good allrounderIt plays music with exceptional quality and photo dumping from all card formats are a breeze with the very flexible optional adapter. TV connection also works well. The video only supports Motion JPEG - MJPEG.AVI files. I have been able to look at .avi videos taken with a Canon camera successfully. However with a downloadeable translation tool from their web site, many other formats can be translated and it works. The translated video takes up a bit more space after translation. Since the device firmware can be upgraded, one hopes that they will come out with more video codecs. The only glitch i found is that the operating system can be very slow when you have large directories. With 80GB of dispace available, a directory can become too large very quickly. That requires a lot of organizing if you have lots of music to store. I also requested from the support people to confirm (before I ordered)whether I would be able to read a Memorystick Duo (with supplied adapter) but there was no satisfactory answer. Battery life is not great, about 3 hours when playing music only, but that should be expected for a device such as this. When only using it for dumping photos, it lasts for days.
A nice feature is that it can read .M3U playlists created on our PC and you can create playlists on the device itself.
An all in all impressive product which have given me countless hours of joy(so far) and I would recommend it for sure. In fact, I have not seen a device on the market yet for the price that can beat it.
One of the better digital storage devices out there-Nicely designed exterior and 3.5 inch display.
-The screen resolution in review mode wont allow you to determine sharpness absolutely but definitely will allow you to review pictures and show them to friends.
-There are smaller units out there but this is a nice compromise for size and functionality.
-This unit is a hard drive,so don't expect to take this running when you listen to you MP3 player.
-It has good sound quality when using headphones.
-My only complaint is the "case" is just a felt bag, I was expecting something more durable.

Good product - somewhat misleadingThe issue that I have had more than a couple of times is the actual writing to the disk. I expect that, when the file transfer progress box goes away, that the files have been transferred to the card. I many cases, this is not an appropriate assumption. Instead, when you pull the card out, it waits for about thirty seconds and then flashes up a message box that says the files were not written and no data was transferred. It works if you wait for about two minutes after the files have "finished" copying before you pull the media card though.
Still, I have to dock 2 stars for the card reader not doing being able to achieve it's primary task.

Good product but .... !1. CF GPS receiver.
2. PocketMap Navigator Software 30 days trial version.
3. Antenna booster for in car use (it does not require any power from car)
I am using it with my Dell AXIM 5, PPC Windows 2002 system. Once it is up it tracks on average 6 satellites (maximum display limit is 12 and the maximum i have seen it track is 8) with a CEP of 17' on average. On a overcast day antenna is must otherwise it doesn't track any satellites on my system. On a clear day it works well out doors without the antenna.
What I like about it:
1. It doesn't drain too much power (I don't have to recharge my PPC more often)
2. Its easy to install and use.
3. Reasonably accuracy (25 CEP per specs - in most cases its better than that)
4. Navigation software comes with voice navigation (voice itself is digitally synthesized - so its little bit hard to understand). The software has nice list of POI's (grocery stores, motels, fitness clubs etc)
What I don't like about it:
1. Map software is 30-day trial version. At the time of writing this review its price is $...
2. Navigator software doesn't give you route optimization options (e.g. you will prefer using highways/interstates or other road ... etc)
Note: For Dell Axim 5 users - it takes up the CF slot and you can't use CF slot for map storage.

Great idea, and works great. Watch out for the Firewire...The reader has two parts, a docking station that gets installed into a 3.5" drive bay (like the floppy drive) and is connected to the Motherboard's USB 2.0 and Firewire connectors. The other part is the actual reader that accepts media devices. This part is typically inserted into the docking station and is recognized as multiple drives in Windows XP. The neat idea is that you can take the reader with you on the road and use it independently via the supplied USB 2.0 wire with your laptop or other computer.
Another thing to note; if your case has a door that covers the 3.5" drive bay when closed, you will have a problem as the reader protrudes for 1" outside the docking station. Just make sure you have enough clearance if you want to have it docked and the door closed. (I have it installed into an Antec Plus-1080B)
I love this thing.
