Best [$] spent on a periphrialInstallation couldn't be easier: If you're running Windows Me, Windows XP, pr Mac OS X, just plug the drive into any available USB port. In less than a minute, the appropriate drivers are installed and the drive is ready for use. If you want to see pretty icons for the drive, you'll need to install the driver on the accompanying CD-ROM. The CD is required if you're running Windows 98, Max OS 8.6, or Mac OS 9.x. Older operating systems, including Windows 95 are not supported.
The business end of the media reader contains two slots. The upper slot has a narrow slit that accepts SmarMedia cards; the lower portion accepts Memory Stick and SecureDigital cards, along with a MultimediaCard. The bottom slot can receive a Compact Flash card or a Microdrive (Type I or Type II). Simply insert the media and the operating system instantly recognizes it. You can read from or write to the memory device just as any other disk drive.
So, if you have a digital camera, are you better off using the Hexa drive? Maybe not. The application software that came with your camera allows you to change camera settings, and maybe to place your pictures in folders sorted by date on which the pictures were made But if simply getting files into your PC is all you need, the Hexa drive does it quickly and easily. You won't spend a more useful [$] on any computer peripheral

Who could ask for more?
Works Great.
Apprehensive about buying at first. But now I'm glad I did!I was looking at the 128mb Memorex SmartMedia Card, but I discovered my camera was not on Memorex's compatibility list. My next choice was the 64mb card from Viking. I was a little skeptical at first because I had never heard of them before. However, after reading some great reviews from other amazon.com shoppers I decided to give it a shot (especially because it was priced lower then most of the others).
I could not be happier! First off I went from only being able to hold 20 photos (at max quality), to around 82! I have been using the card for months, taking photos, deleting them, transferring them to my PC, and so far it has been working great. The card also came with a plastic protective case, which is now where my 16mb card resides.
If I ever decide to go with the larger 128mb card, or if I get a new camera, I will definitely consider another Viking memory card, and would recommend their product to any of my friends.

Excellent price compared to the same capacity Sony brandHOWEVER; be advised that if you are upgrading from a 32 to 128 which is 4 times the storage amount, it will take longer to format, and you will notice more delay insofar as image writing and image previewing (ie. after taking a shot and going to the preview mode to see the last picture you took, it was almost instantaneous with the 32mb memory stick, but now with the 128mb stick, you click on the preview mode and nothing happens until after about 1-2 seconds, then you get the preview...). If you are upgrading from a 64mb stick, the delay probably won't be as noticeable. This is the only reason why I gave it 4 stars, I was hoping for the same quick performance as my 32mb stick...so it was a little bit of a let-down. Will I return it? No way, this is still the best buy for a memory stick!

Speed improvement on my Nikon 775I am not sure if this will happen with other cameras, but I'm happy with this card in my 775. I wish all memory cards come with the speed rating to make purchase decision easier.
This is my second Lexar card- great item!

Great Value
500 pics and still rolling! The 128MB card holds 169 images at the HQ (High Quaility 3 MegaPixel setting) in the Olympus 3000/3030 and so far so good, but I am still waiting on that rebate check from Viking. :(
Also, there is a "hack" to enable the panaorama feature of the Olympus camera's... It has to do with formatting with "Olympus PAN" in the header :) ....
From research, I found that there are only two companies that produce smartmedia cards and that the only difference between the two is the country in which they are produced. The Viking media comes from Japan, which is supposedly better.

Junk Card! Don't go for it
A VERY good value! Don't bother with a smaller card for MP3sKeep in mind, though, unlike the cheaper versions of this card, this card does NOT come with a flash reader. I was disappointed to find this out, but it was my own fault for just assuming it did. I still give it 5 stars.
[A note to HP Jornada 548 customers. This card works fine with the Jornada Pocket PC. I say this because it is not mentioned in the advertisement that the 128MB version is compatible, but it is.]
One nice thing about this card is that there is 24/7 tech support available if something should go wrong with it (or with installation or whatever), but I don't know what could really go wrong with it --I guess that's why they offer the tech support!
Anyone using MP3s should REALLY go for this card and skip the 64 MB card. The 64 MB card would be rather skimpy, and with 128 MB you'll ALWAYS find things to store on it. (I've had my card three days now and I've filled up 50 MB already, downloading songs, books, and maps).
One nice thing about having a flash card for a PocketPC (or other handheld) is that you can back up your entire regular memory onto your flashcard easily, without having to worry about memory failure. That is pretty neat, kind of like a second hard drive for your computer...

Another card that's not compatible...
Good, but missing USB2.0 SupportI have used it flawlessly with Windows 2000, XP, and Macintosh OS X. I have but only two gripes with it:
First and foremost, its only USB1.1 compliant, rather than 2.0. The transfer speed is much higher with 2.0, and although your CompactFlash card cannot transfer at this maximum speed, there is a definite speed increase using a USB2.0 CompactFlash reader (for instance, the SanDisk SDDR-91 ImageMate, which is also nearly as small a form factor).
My second issue, is that the connection cable is a USB Type A Male to USB Type A Female (commonly known as a USB extension cable). While this makes it easy to plug the device directly to a laptop with USB ports open, spare cables are nearly all USB Type A to USB Type B (Male/Male). I find myself almost never using its "cableless" feature at any rate.
Overall, its a solid product that I've never had a (technical) problem with, and has always performed like a star. With the addition of USB2.0 and a slightly less wide shape, it would take this product in a class unto its own.
hallelujahI bought this CF reader to use with my Canon Elph S200 digital camera. Although the Elph comes with software and cables to download via the USB port of my computer, and this CF reader also connects to the USB port, for some reason downloading via the CF reader is far, far faster. You plug the CF reader in, it shows up in Windows as a new drive letter, and you can access the files on your CF card (open them, copy them, delete them, etc) the same way you'd access files anywhere else on your computer, and just about as quickly.
You can also use the reader to transfer data between computers, any kind of data. I have one networked computer (with no CD-R or zip drive) and one non-networked computer. With this tool I was suddenly able to transfer up to 256M of data (the size of my CF memory card) from the networked computer to the non-networked one, easy as pie. Hallelujah!
The reader is very simple to install. On some operating systems you just plug it in and it goes. On others (like Windows 98) you have to go to the SimpleTech website, download a driver (6.5M for Win98), install it and then plug it in. Either way it was very quick.
Overall a very satisfying little tool.
