Kingston and Crucial are the only RAM brands I'll let touch my computer. I bought this with a gift certificate and got a good price during the recent RAM shortage, but prices are on the way down again. I've had no problems with this memory, but make sure your motherboard supports it before you buy it!

Be advised: purchasing DDR memory can be confusing. But once you know the kind you need, this review might make some more sense to you. I purchased this kind of memory for my Tyan S2460. The reason was the fact that the motherboard requires registered DDR mem. Now, for those who don't know the difference (as I didn't until I had to research), there are two or three different kinds of DDR memory. There is the ECC, CAS.25 Registered, PC2100 (the one in this review), and then the ones without the registration, or without ECC support. If you know about memory, this would be something like comparing FPM against EDO, or PC100 against PC133.
So the difference resides in how many features the memory is supposed to have. This should get further complemented with your motherboard's documentation. In my case, I could ONLY use registered, but other MB's may not be so specific.

I have been too sentimental towards my Dell Dimension XPS to chuck it into the garbage bin. So I thought I'd add some RAM to see how the performance would improve. I doubled my RAM by adding 32 MB of Viking EDO Ram. The performance is better, especially for surfing the web. ....

Great addition to any system, yet I wonder why the price of this memory stick gone up so much in the last 30 days?

The RAM was great. It enhanced my computer, as it will yours, greatly. RAM is one of the easiest things to upgrade in terms of hardware on your computer. The only bad thing is it's hard to install it when you don't have it. It took Amazon almost a month to ship it to me because it wasn't in stock. You may be better off buying direct from Viking.

I purchased the dimm stick for my new brother hl-5140 printer as an expansion to it's ram. This memory is much cheaper than the memory that brother suggest and works very well. If you are looking for a very low cost to increase your printer speed, then this is for you. My printers keeps up to its 21 ppm with no problems with this addition. Shipping was fast. The only reason I might not buy this is if you have a very high end laser printer, then I would stay with a name brand dimm stick.

When the computer people at Staples told me that I couldn't use the memory their little guide told me to use, I nearly gave up hope of being able to upgrade my old, out of date system. However, something didn't quite sit well with their explaination, and I decided to check here. The memory check system was simple to use and I quickly determined which memory to use. When it finally came, it was easy to install and worked like a charm.

My complaint, however, is in the length of time it took to recieve the memory. Originally, the availability was 24-48 hours, which quickly changed to 1-2 weeks after Amazon determined that they didn't actually have any on hand (at least that's my guess). Then that 1-2 weeks came and went and they told me that it'd be another 1-2 weeks.

Still, gotta admit, it did the job, once I got it. Kudos to Amazon and Viking on the memory guide, mucho easy to use.

ECC checks for errors, which is vital for servers/worksations and of the sort. ECC Ram really isn't a buy for a desktop, tends to run slower than the Non Parity, Non ECC PC133 SDRAM.

Do you have ECC Ram? To find out count the number of Black chips on one side of the memory, then divide by 3. If the quotient is a multiple of 3, then you have ECC Ram. Most cases, its 9 / 3 = 3 and you have ECC ram. Most Home Desktops usually do not carry the ECC feature, with only 8 Black chips. It is the 9th black chip that causes the bottleneck in the ram as it checks for errors, making sort of a "Traffic Jam" in the memory, thus reducing speed. This memory module is also Backward Compatible, which means you can run it on a 133, 100, or 66Mhz Bus, given the correct slot.

I would reccomend that you "Match" your ram for optimal performance. CAS Latency also plays a factor. The lower the number, the faster it performs when you click. It is also best that you match the latency. To check, there should be writing on the black chips on the memory you have in your system now. Don't be afraid to take it out, it clips right back in quite easily. The memory I am reviewing has a CAS Latency of 3. (3-3-3.) If that matchs your ECC Ram CAS Latency, you really don't have to give a second thought about it. This would be a reccomended buy only and only if you have ECC PC 133, even better if your old module carried the 3 CAS Latency. If not, Amazon carries a similar module, Non ECC for a reasonable and competitive price.

I've had good luck with Viking products and I'm not, in the slightest, let down by this one. I wanted my computer to process images and information a little faster; this did the job very well.
