Delkin USB SmartMedia Reader (DDREADER-14)

    Really easy to use
This reader is really easy to use. Just put your card in and it becomes a new drive on your computer. Coupled with Ofoto's (www.ofoto.com) free uploading software which automatically comes up you stick a card in, it's pretty much a brainless activity... :-)

VERY POWERFUL AND USEFUL FOR THE PRICE !
The Delkin USB Smartmedia reader and writer is very useful to transfer data from/to your computer to/form another computer. I use it this way because all is much smaller and reliable (the cards and the USB reader) compared to ZIP or 128 MB 3.5" floppy drive. NO NEAD TO CLEAN YOUR DRIVE ANY MORE AND YOU CAN TAKE BOTH THE READER AND CARDS IN YOUR POCKETS.

    So Far Great!
This was easy to set up especially after the week of trying to set up my new CD Burner. Light-weight but durable and reads like any other drive.

    Rebate not granted as advertised
I have the same experience as the above reviewer. I sent in all the required stuff for a $25 rebate but got rejected. I don't see this card faster than the one come with my Canon digital camera. (...)

    Much Faster
I just received this card and popped it into my Nikon Coolpix 3100. It definitely takes pictures much faster, which was one of the few complaints I had with this camera, the lag between pushing the shutter and getting the shot. If this continues to work as well as it has today, it was worth the few extra dollars.

    Don't Forget The JumpShot
I just bought this so I don't have any performance feedback just yet, but...

They neglect to mention that a JumpShot media reader ships with this card. A nice surprise. Also included is card recovery/unerase/secure erase/test software (disk images on Card for MacOSX and for Windoze) called Image Rescue.

A must have for Digital Camera users.
I bought one of these ImageMates right after I picked up my Nikon CoolPix 950. It was an easy installation, and has made transfer of my pictures from my camera to my computer a breeze. The newer camera's support USB. But my 950 only has a serial interface. Which thanks to my USB ImageMate I've never had to use. The compact flash card shows up as a external drive on my desktop, so I can just drag and drop the pictures right from my card to my drive. Nothing could be simpler! And when I have a full 128 Meg Card it is appreciated! The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars is that inserting the compact flash card can sometimes take a minute because it's not as easy to insert the card into the reader as it should be. Minor quibble over all, so if you don't have one get one! For the price you can't go wrong.

Essential device, easy install, simple to use
Like most USB devices, this was incredibly easy to install on Win98. I just connected it to the USB port on my wife's PC and stuck in the CD when prompted. I didn't even have to reboot. Easy!

Downloading pictures using a serial cable is incredibly slow, and squanders expensive batteries. This device, which is powered by the USB cable, lets you treat your flashcards like high-capacity floppy drives. Just drag and drop your pictures from your flashcard to your hard drive using Explorer. Once you're done, erasing unwanted pictures from the flashcard is quick & easy.

This peripheral is cheap, given the time it saves and the convenience it provides. My wife loves it.

    Easy to Use, Relatively Inexpensive
I followed the installation instructions: load the software, then plug the reader into the usb port and let Windows 98 recognize and install the item. And that's what it did - so simple! And Windows Explorer reads it just like any other drive. I agree with the previous reviewer - it is a little difficult to insert the flash card and you must take care. Maybe it doesn't take a whole minute, but it does take longer than the few seconds you would assume it should take. Other than that, it works exactly like it is supposed to.

    Works great
The previous reviewer said that he cannot get good range from this, but he didn't say what that range was. I can walk anywhere in my house and get great connectivity. I would have to say that the furthest i have gotten so far from my access point in my house would be about 300 feet, and no problem. I have not tested the maximum range yet though.

My walls in my house are not concrete or anything however, so i have never had any problem with 802.11b, (but will probably wish i had concrete when the tornado hits).

Over all, installation was a snap, my range is good, bit of a drain on the battery .You may want to get a wireless pc card and a pc card expanion for the ipaq if battery life is important to you, because the pc card expantion pack comes with its own battery, and the cf expantion does not. So far, the only pcmcia card I KNOW OF that supports windows ce is the Compaq WL110 (which coincidentily is not sold here).

In my opinion, linksys equipment has always been good to me, and this is no exception.

Great wireless card, but eats batteries like an suv eats gas
I purchased this card with my Sharp Zaurus SL-5000D. I know that the Zaurus has the drivers already installed for this card so I plugged it in and it was up and running in no-time. I have a Netgear MR314 wireless router and it has no problems working with this card. The speed is great, although I never actually measured it, but many of the websites come up pretty fast. The only downfall to the card (and all other compact flash wireless NIC cards for that matter) is that the unit drains batteries too fast. It eats up a lot of juice and forces me to plug in the charger. The range on the unit is not as good as I hoped, but my router could also cause some problems. So far this is the only wireless CF card I tried, but I'm happy with it.

    Another quality Lynksys product
I bought this CF card for use with a Cassiopea E-200 PocketPC PDA. First, all the documentation says that this card works with Windows CE 2.0 and 3.0. It also works just fine with Pocket PC 2002 using the drivers supplied on the CD.

Setup was pretty easy. I use two wireless networks - one at home and one at work, both with DHCP. The software lets you set up multiple profiles for differnet locations. (I use encryption at home and none at work and the different profiles keep them straight). The MAC address for the card isn't printed anywhere on the card. I only found it by looking at the firmware version number in the software's "About" screen (I needed to register the MAC address to join my work's wireless network).

Last thing and my only complaint (so far) is that the CF card sticks out of the top of the E-200 a little bit two much. Granted, this has nothing to do with the CF card :)

Wireless roaming works well, good througput and good performance. It gets my reccomendation.

I boght it to film skateing with me and my friends, and it F#$%ed up the same day I was the damn laghing stalk for the day. so..... take my advise and get the {Samsung Hi8™ Camcorder- SAM SCL906} for $299.00 at circut city or www.circutcity.com

Works good for the money I spent on it!!
This is probably one of the best electronics I have bought in a while, the only complaint I have on it is you need good light to take pictures or video tape anything, otherwise it comes out fuzzy and slightly blurry. It works great other than that. I already have transfered about 300 pictures onto my computer and have enhanced and printed them out. I would like to have something smaller to take pictures but I am happy w/ what I have until I get some extra $$$ to spend on a small digital camera.

    robert
I bought this camera with my money, and i have never been happier with anything else. The resolution is great, its got many effects, and the digital camera works great. One thing I love about the digital camera is that you can hook up the camera to the TV, turn on the digital camera, and play the pictures, creating a slide-show. I really like the way the camcorder part is easy to use; I was able to teach myself how to use it and I'm a first time user. So, it is a great first time use camera.

    Unhelpful and rude tech support
I found that this module wouldn't work in my computer,
though industry-standard low density memory worked
fine. Kingston technical support confirmed that this
was high density memory and would not work in my PC.

When I asked them to swap it for standard memory, the
response was that I bought the wrong memory, and it
wasn't their problem to exchange it to make it work.

I'll not buy Kingston products again.

    Thanks for the memory
I disconnected my computer, opened it up and plugged in the memory. I reconnected my computer and turned it on and the memory was automatically configured. It works fine - what more can I say? Well I'll tell you - don't worry about the CL2 and CL3 ratings, like I did. I did a little research and CL3 is just fine (like this memory). Unless you are a computer geek and want to make settings in your BIOS for CL2 (which is more expensive, but a little faster) CL3 is the standard for PC 133 SDRAM and comes standerd on most computers that use PC 133 and will work fine.

    Excellent buy and compatibility
I needed to upgrade from 128 MB to 512 MB. The memory got to my home through UPS (plus a dog bone for my dog) within about 5 days. Installed easily once I figured out where HP had the memory on the motherboard (behind the drive chassis!). Everything is working like a champ. Excellent buy and compatibility for an upgrade.

    My digital cameras best friend!
I love my Olympus D-370, but it takes just too long to get the images to my computer. I read or heard some where that card readers where the way to go, so I got the Simpletech Flashlink... since I already use their SM cards. Works perfectly... gets images to my computer fast! Plus, it frees up my Olympus to take more pictures!

    Great product
I highly recommend this product for anyone who has had it with the time it normally takes to upload photos from a digital camera. With the Flashlink Smart Media Reader I'm able to upload photos much faster than before and now I don't have to worry about running the battery down on my camera or tying up my computer.
Installation was very simple - just run the disk that comes with it and plug it in to the USB port.

Perfect Plug and Play with XP
I noticed that several other reviewers have mentioned problems with the plug and play functionallity of this reader when using windows XP. Well, I have used this on two different computers, both running XP and have had no problem whatsoever. I plug it in, the computer recognizes the reader and its all go from there. I think this is a perfectly good reader, it works well and it is reasonablly priced. Thank you for taking the time to read my little 'ol opinion.

    Awesome Smart Media Card Reader
I bought this card reader so I wouldn't have to fiddle around with cables every time I want to download pictures and so that it can go from an hour ordeal to a quick few minutes. This memory card reader works perfectly. I am running Windows XP Home Edition and have an Olympus D-460 ZOOM camera. I used a 16 MB Smart Media card also made by Olympus. In my informal tests I was able to download pictures several times faster as well as doing so without using any of the software that came with the camera. Also whenever I want to download pictures all I have to do is slide the memory card in then open the F drive. I would recomend this product to anyone with a old non-USB camera that would like to transfer pictures faster and with less hassel.

Works great with Fuji and Windows XP Home
I purchased this smartmedia reader in a combo with my new FinePix 2800 Zoom camera (which comes with a FujiFilm 16MB smartmedia card). I have used the USB reader repeatedly with no problems, but have not yet tried other card sizes or different brands.

Setup was easy with Windows XP and did not require the included software for the drivers. My camera was bundled with the FinePixViewer software for downloading and minor editing of the pictures from my digital camera - but it also loads wonderfully from the Lexar card-reader, AND saves batteries! Overall, wonderful.

    fast and simple
I use an Olympus D450, a 64MB Olympus Smart Media card, and an iMac with Mac OS 8.6. After downloading some free software from Apple to be able to recognize the reader (newer system software would eliminate this step) I plugged the Lexar reader in and in a split second, the card popped up on my desktop and I moved the the photos to my hard drive. I am impressed with this product.

Reliable performer... Fan's a tad noisy
Works with OS X 10.3 Panther without a hitch. Plugged it in and formated it as HFS+ and went right to work. None of the mount problems that other FireWire drives have had with Panther (I know, I returned two of another brand before I bought this one). So good, it's a little boring. Ships with a robust, good quality Firewire cable. No problems since I bought it in November 2003. I Daisy chained it with a LaCie to move some files and it behaved nicely.

Yes, it has a fan and you can hear it.

Great price & very easy to set up
I still have my old Win98 system still kicking around. It has over 8000 photos I have taken over the years with my digital cameras. Well the PC has been acting cranky and I think it might die soon so I bought the Simpledrive to back everything up. Very easy set up, just install the USB drivers and plug the drive in. Done! Even my Mom could handle it (well, not really but a boy can dream). The nice thing is I have a WinXP laptop also. After I transferred all the files I wanted & tried plugging it in to the laptop. Presto! No drivers needed, it just recognizes the hard drive and I can see all my files. Couldn't be any easier with XP. I highly recommend this hard drive.

Fast, Quiet, and does what i ask of it...
Couldn't be any more pleased... I now store all of my multimedia on this thing and it makes my computer hard drive so free and happy :-). Transfers go at lightning speed with USB 2.0 and the software (though it is not perfect) reminds me to back up my important files. Despite those who have said the Simplech drive is noisy, I can make no claim. I literally have the thing sitting right beside me on the desk and i rarely hear a whimper out of it. Excellent buy and an excellent price to boot.

It does what I need it to do.
I got the Fotoshow mainly to serve as a zip drive and as extra storage for my digital camera when I go on vacations. As a zip drive, it works as expected. It's nice to have the option to take it with me as additional storage for my digital camera. I thought of going with a digital wallet, but the thought of carrying (and dropping) a harddrive with all my pictures in it worries me.

There are a few things that I think would make the Fotoshow better.

    1. The card slots are useless when the Fotoshow is connected to the computer via USB cable. It would be nice to be able to use the Fotoshow as a card reader.

    2. The power transformer is big and heavy. It should be smaller and lighter for travel.

    3. Option for battery/portable power.

    4. Faster operation when using the TV.

Overall, I like the Fotoshow. I would like it better if Iomega would fix the items above.

    Versatile equipment!
I purchased the Iomega Fotoshow when I purchased a new PC. I knew I wanted to get a digital camera eventually, but I wanted a ZIP drive immediately. At first, I used this exclusively as a ZIP drive attached to my PC and it worked like a charm. No better or worse than other ZIP drives I have owned, so it is certainly not worth the price if that is all you intend to use it for.

When I purchased my digial camera, the Fotoshow's extra features proved to be very useful. I just pop my compactflash card and a ZIP disk into the Fotoshow and press one button to copy my photos onto the ZIP disk. Piece of cake! I can see this being a really handy tool if you go on vacation and want to dump your photos onto a disk and don't have access to a PC. The fotoshow is not that tiny, but smaller than a laptop or desktop computer would be to carry with you when you travel. And, at 100 or 250 MB disks, you don't need many disks to tore your images.

Another great feature of the Fotoshow is the ability to connect the it to a television (through a coaxial or RCA connection, cables included). Using this feature, you can selectively copy the contents of your memory card onto a Zip disk, perform some basic touch-ups on the photos (like removing red-eye and cropping), or you can give a slide show presentation through your television! All this through a small remote control! What is also nice is that you can give a slide show presentation of images on your ZIP disk as well. So, your presentation can be from images generated anywhere, no just your digital camera. Very, very cool!

I do have some complaints about the Fotoshow that prevent me from giving it a 5 star rating. 1) If it is plugged into a PC and you are using it as a ZIP drive, you cannot read or copy from your memory card. Only if your computer is off or the Fotoshow is disconnected can you copy images to a ZIP disk. No big deal, really. 2) Also, a feature I would REALLY like would be to have the ability to give a slide presentation on a COMPUTER screen directly from a memory card, but alas you can only view a slide show through a television.

A friend asked about mine and wanted to buy one. On checking the Iomega site to send him a link I discovered they no longer make this. It is a grat product. I don't know of any other way to view digital pictures on a TV other than directly from the camera if it has a video out jack. The Iomega software works pretty good except that you have to put the pictures in viewing order from the Fotoshow. If you put them in order from your computer in Windows Explorer for example the pictures will revert to the order that Fotoshow had them. Other than that it's a great product.
