Great Little Camera!I normally use the large Sony 828 which is far removed from a pocket camera but Kyocera gives many of the features of a mid range camera in a compact size. The Kyocera SL400R fills the need for a smaller unit and at 4MP it can produce close to the same quality for routine use. Focus can sometimes present a challenge but overall, this is worth a look. For it's size and capabilites, this Kyocera is gives an easy five-star performance.
What do you really want the camera for?I'm in the military and on the go quite a bit so I needed something small and easy to use.
One of the biggest pluses (to me) is not needing a tripod. The swivel body is perfect for setting about anywhere and getting the shot (of myself) wherever I am. No more balancing my camera on a pile of rocks till I get the lens angle to where it doesn't cut my head off in the picture.
The instant on feature is awesome. Turn it on and it's ready to shoot a picture.
The fast shoot is the best thing ever. I can't tell you how many pictures I've missed with my other camera because it's focusing and processing whatever information. Push the button and it takes a picture, not "takes a picture 2 seconds from now."
WIth a high speed card you can take really great 640 x (whatever) movies. The movies are good quality and full motion. Not a camcorder replacement but fun for taking action movies at the drag races or whatever.
I haven't had problems with battery life. I think for the size and intended use it's fine. I turn the camera on, take a pic and turn it off. If you leave it on constantly, yeah, it's going to drain the battery. With the instant on and fast shooting, you can turn it on, take a pic and turn it off before most cameras can take a pic with it already on.
With the camera being so small, I don't mind taking my camera everywhere with me. It's nice because I'm taking pictures of a lot of things I never felt like lugging a camera around to take pictures of.
I've got Windows XP and there have been no problems (as stated earlier). Give your battery a full charge before you first start playing with it. I bought an extra battery but I don't think it's going to get much use. Don't forget to buy a high speed SD card. I got a 512m 32x speed and I think it will work for about anything I need. You could probably get away with a 256m no prob though.
Overall, I think it's an awesome little camera. If it had a little bit better zoom it would be perfect. It's an everyday camera. Fun to use.
It's not a replacement for my other camera though and I didn't buy it with those intentions. Keep that in mind and you will be extremely pleased.

Not compatible with some newer Windows applicationsI had no problems installing the camera - just plugged it in, and Windows XP recognized it right away. It worked with the bundled ULead VideoStudio, Windows Movie Maker, and WebCam2000.
The software I would have most wanted to use with the iBot was ATI's Multimedia Center that came with my ATI Radeon All-in-Wonder video card - namely, its motion-activated recording feature (so I could find out what the cats *really* do while I'm away). But the iBot did not show up as a possible video source in the ATI configuration.
(warning: geek-speak ahead) After some research, it turns out that the ATI video-capture function is only compatible with devices that have WDM drivers, and the iBot drivers only support the older, 'VFW' standard. Microsoft has stopped supporting the VFW (Video for Windows) standard, and is pushing other companies do the same. So there may be other applications out there that won't support the iBot, unless Orange Micro releases a WDM driver.
On a side note, Microsoft _has_ supplied a forwards-compatibility feature in Windows XP that will allow applications using the older VFW standard to use newer WDM devices (just not the other way around).

Battries for your Epson digital camera
How the camera REALLY isBottom line is, this camera with the best of battery charges doesn't yield more than 20 pictures when used with the Flash and LCD.
So why rate this camera high? I tried a series of tests on the camera without the use of the LCD screen when taking pictures. The camera allowed me to take well over 200 pictures in 1600x1200 super fine mode on one charge. In fact, I am sure it would have gone on longer but after 200 pictures over 36 hours I got bored and ran out of pictures to take.
I really like the sharp images this camera takes. I have printed photos on mto my Epson 1270 printer. There are simply outstanding! I also transferred JPG files from my hard disk to the camera with the included software and watched them on my 27" television. I transferred the image to 640x480 24bit images into the camera. On television they were also outstanding.
If you want a camera with 24 bit image capability and 2.1 mega pixel display and are willing to give up using the LCD screen to take snaps this is quit a camera. It is small, I mean very small! I like how tiny it is. It has USB support for both Mac and PC. Uploading and downloading pictures to and from the camera is fast! No need to buy a PCMCIA or other adapters. Just hook it right up to the computer and go!
Things to do if you buy this camera.
1. Charge the batteries they give you 3 times in a row. The first timer when they are done charging remove them from the charger then re-insert them. After the red charging light goes off, charge them yet a 3rd time. 2. Never use ANYTHING but the included batteries. Buy more to carry around and you will be able to take at least 200 or more 1600x1200 super fine pictures with a 64 MB Flash Card per charge 2 battery set. 3. Use the LCD screen only once in a while to check and create settings. Most point and shoot setting do not require the LCD at all. The flash, picture resolution, snap and timer are all easy to use buttons on top. 4. Get an Epson printer like the 750 or better and print your photos. They really do come out looking just like real photos! 5. Buy the optional AC power supply. When transferring photos to and from the camera, you will avoid a lot of issues regarding power when you use the AC to perform these functions.
It all came down to this for me. Get past the LCD use for taking pictures, and use it only for reviewing images. Do that, and this is one outstanding camera!
Good Deal for an intro camera......but pro's and consPROS and CONS of the PC800:
-Very light, and easy to carry. -All kinds of connectivity, USB, serial, mouse type port. Software is simple, loads easily, get started in minutes. Picture quality in OUTSTANDING in Fine to Hy Pict mode. Just as good as the S10. However, I've found the Standard mode (640x480) quality to be not so great. Honestly, not much better than the Sony Mavica FD-83 in 640x480. I compress Fine 1600x1200 (usually 240KB) pics into 640x480 for small but very high quality pics. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SHARP 640X480, THIS IS NOT THE CAMERA TO HAVE. Otherwise, picture quality is amazing. Buttons are small, but easy to use after awhile and I found the menus to be easier to use than reported by others. For the advanced photographer, lots of features to customize pics. For the average lame-brain like me, it's a great point and shoot camera. Auto mode does everything pretty good. BUY EXTRA RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES AND AC ADAPTER. IT COMES WITH THE RECHARGER. CHARGE BATTS 3 TIMES BEFORE USE. Keep in mind the camera only uses 2 AA's at a time, so extra batts go a long way. Dont waste your money on off the shelf AA's, if you use the LCD it will eat em' up in no time. The AC Adapter keeps you from burning up batteries while learning to use it or downloading many pics of the camera. Also, try and use the view finder instead of the LCD, as others have said, it really chews up the power. Lastly, buy a 48 or 64MB flash card. 8MB it comes with is way to small. Use it for backup.

Excellent, for what it is
Get closer.
Very sharp, superb lensIf you own one of the popular Coolpix cameras and want to increase your zoom potential, this should be yoru first choice. Not only are the optics first rate, but the lens is not overly heavy. This enables you to screw it on and walk aroudn with it. Photos produced with this lens are stunning and very crisp. The only drawback I'd say this has is the limit of only 2x telephoto/teleconverter aspect, but that is what keeps it relatively light! Amazon also sells a 3x version, but it is significantly heavier and it will end up in the closet instead of on your Coolpix.
Get this lens - you will be *thrilled* you did.

not worth the money... spend a little more...CONS: -it's bulky, much to bulky for the convenience of a pocket or a small purse. -my flash is broken... no longer works -PhotoGenie is not compatible with win2000. A Twain driver is available, but, you can also just load the images straight from drive mode. -my clik disks have been corrupted on two separate occasions, meaning, I totally lost two sets of pictures. -the battery life meter is very vague and inaccurate. I take on picture and the battery life is down to half, I take 30 more, and the camera is still on half full, despite batteries straight from the charger (1600 mA) -flash recharge takes about 10 seconds (annoying when there are others that charge much, much quicker... cannot be spontaneous) -loading takes over 7 seconds -often the LCD will not display when expected. you must turn off and restart. -lcd display is jerky compared to other LCD's I've used. -technology is OLD... camera was developed in 1999.
That guy works for Iomega...but it's still a great camera.
Great CameraOnly 2 bad points - batteries, get really good rechargables and your all set. Also - it is slow, not great for action shots...
Other then that, a very nice product.
xp professional, even though the intel faq says it does. The intel customer support says that there are major problmes with the mouse, keyboard and gamepad (they only list the minor problems on there compatibility faq)), they dont bother to tell you that they do not work at all on many peoples xp professional
However if you have 98,me,xp home, or 2000 professional(wow 2000 pro and not xp pro) then buy this product, it is an awesome gamepad and can function as a mouse that doesnt even need a surface to use.
