Simply a fantastic Cat 5 Cable
This network cable feels durable and is 10 ft long so it helps to reach thouse network accessories. The cable is ruged and the covers for the tabs help protect the connection. Bought 2, will by again if more are needed!

it works!
works great, but i doubt too many people ever get bad cat5 cables. to me they are all the same.

Good solid choice for ethernet cable.
It's pretty hard to screw up a thing as simple as an ethrnet cable. I guess any ethernet cable would do, but this has been perfect so far.

Excellence.
Highly recommended. The installation was simple. XP detected the drivers and set it up instantly. Was able to hook up external hard drive without any problems. Even comes with software to create your own digital movies. Learning the software is not as easy as installing the PCI card.
Overall, very satisfied with this product.

Great card
.. This was a synch to install in my XP, 2.4ghz, P4. Once in the slot, it loaded itself up, bypassing the usual Wizard. ... I began converting analog 8 mm to digital files for editing, right off the bat. The software that came with it is clunky, taking time to get a handle on. But it produced beautiful avi and quicktime files, once I figured things out. The wma files weren't so great, but that's probably the price you pay for squeezing down a 3 minute clip for e-mail. Other files can be produced too, with the software. Am very pleased.

Quick Plug and Play - Great Value
I'm using Windows XP on a 1.8ghz P4

XP detected it immediatley upon boot up. My JVC Mini-DV was also detected right away when I plugged in the firewire cable.

I also purchased the 6 foot firewire cable. I would suggest not getting a cable any shorter than 6'

If you plan on tranferring your video to VCD, you may want to invest in a good video editing program like Adobe Premiere.

I used the Windows Video Maker to capture the video and Nero Burning Rom to make the VCD. It looked "OK" on the TV.

I will be investing in some video software soon

Works fine
I have one of these connected to a Power Mac MDD 867 and it works fine. Like the first reviewer, I used double-sided foam tape to secure the hub to my desk. Connected to it and working fine are a Lexmark printer, Canon scanner (bus-powered), Griffin iMic, Wacom Graphire tablet, Clie dock, Plantronics USB headset, and a Logitech MX710 mouse.

Is this a socket before my eyes...
I use USB a lot - I have a variety of devices that use it to communicae with computers, and the couple of sockets that most machines have has long since become inadequate for what I do. At present, I have two Belkin 7-port USB hubs and one 4-port model on various computers around my house and business. They are simple, unassuming, and loyally perform their work with a minimum of trouble. I've tried other hubs, but the Belkins have been by far the most reliable.

This is a plug it in then plug other things into it technology. The only thing you can do wrong is man-handle the connections hard enough to break something. And the Belkin sockets are plenty tough. It comes with it's own power supply which is more than adequate to support devices that draw their energy from the USB connection.

My only gripe is a typical one of all USB hubs - the box isn't heavy enough to overcome the pull of the USB wires. Of course, making it so would significantly effect the price of a very affordable device. This really is only an issue if you have to keep plugging and unpluging things. I gave up and grabbed a roll of double sided tape - end of problem.

56k Lan Modem is much better than expected.
Upon connecting this thing up I was pleasantly surprised, because everything worked the first time. It even dialed the home website to see if a firmware upgrade was available and I then received the new feature set which included support for up to 25 users. The web browser (password protected) set up, gives the network administrator complete control over user defined access and includes multiple ISP setups. A complete set of browser accessible manual troubleshooting/maintenance functions is included. This is probably the only PC related product I have ever purchased that I was completely (and more) satisfied. I am right now considering a DSL upgrade because DSL in now available in my area, but until I find a router which has all of the features of this unit, it will be hard for me to change. If you are in an area where you cannot get high speed DSL or cable access than this is problably the best thing going. I find that I get close to 56k reliably on downloads from my ISP. The multi-user functionality works flawlessly. One drawback is you will need to use an ISP which gives you the DNS settings which is not something the free ISP's like to do. AOL is also not supported by direct dial connection to AOL numbers (must be connected via TCP/IP to the LAN modem through another ISP), but if you're like me you don't want to use AOL anyway.

    It just works invisibly
I have had no problems with this hub. It looks good and works great. I have used it with an iMac DVSE and have connected a QPS Que! CD-RW, HP 812C printer and Iomega 100mb Zip drive. It connects to the keyboard port; it does not need to be plugged into the iMac itself. What more can I say? It's a great product and I recommend it highly.

Easy to install, nicely built card
Installed this card in minutes including all the software upgrades available on the Adaptec website. Instantly hooked up all the existing USB peripherals and all worked just fine.

Hooked up a USB 2.0 peripheral and experienced the high speed transfer rates.

Bottom line? Nice card from Adaptec, well worth a slight premium over cheaper models.

    Painless installation and flawless performance!
I recently purchased a 4 megapixel camera, and I found that it took much longer to download the larger picture files it produced than the pictures from my old 2.0 MP camera, (using a CF reader with USB 1.1). I was also getting more errors, like refusing to open a preview picture, and occassionally freezing the whole system. Since I do a lot of photo editing, I decided to upgrade to USB 2.0. I installed this card in a 866mhz P3 Dell w/512mb RAM, running Windows 98SE. Installation of the card and the software was simple, and it works flawlessly. Used with a new USB 2.0 card reader, the speed is unbelievable, even when uploading images to a website and downloading and editing photos at the same time, with no glitches or errors at all. I had purchased a similar card (Belkin F5U220) from a different vendor, but it caused numerous system crashes, and when I called Belkin tech support, I found the rep to be inept and surly. I highly recommend this Adaptec product, and Amazon's service was superb, as usual.

Card was easy to install, but beware of drivers
The card itself is nice and there's a lot of documentation and support available at the company, which is a switch from the generics that I normally buy. This card is replacing a generic which didn't function all too well and had no support.

The USB view software is amazing. I now can see a map of all of my legacy and 2.0 USB devices, including printers, drives, camera, MP3 players, etc.

One point on installation: I have Windows XP Pro. During Plug and Pray, it automatically installed NEC drivers, not the Adapatec drivers. This is likely Microsoft's fault. Download the latest drivers for the 3100LP card from the support website, they are dated Dec 2002. You will have to go to the Control Panel, to the device and update drivers. When it asks you, specify a location where you installed the new drivers to, and ensure you are installing drivers for this card.

Great looking but has some issues
I just got this for Xmas to replace my undersized Belkin 4 port hub and it looks great. It works fine for most of my peripherals but don't bother hooking up your Soundsticks to it. The music skips about once every 20-30 seconds. It also requires a powercord (adding to the already overflowing powerstrip) unlike the Belkin which will work w/ or w/o external power (in accordance with USB specs I may add). So, I have the soundsticks plugged in directly to my TiBook and then the hub in the other port to all of the other peripherals. I debated returning it but the blekins are not stackable and take up a greater horizontal footprint. Sometimes I just wish I could find one product that did what I needed...

    What an improvement!
I had an old USB 1.0 hub that was not activating some of my USB devices when I booted my system. I researched the available USB 2.0 hubs and selected the Adaptec XHub7. I am not sorry I did. It was a snap to set up on my Window XP Home Edition system. all I had to do was plug in the USB devices, provide power to it using the included power supply and every USB device connected with no hithches.

It also fits nicely on my crowded desk, and I have not any problems with it like the ones I had with my old USB 1.0 hub. I plan to purchase another one as my system expands.

    works like a champ...
Not much else to say... It connected as soon as it was pluged in, I've got all 7 ports full, and everything works every time (fast). It's the most attractive piece of hardware on my desk. Benchmarking software shows it to be as fast as advertised. I have no problem with plugging it into AC, as I'd rather not have a laptop power supply running my accesories. I'm buying more.

    Try again with Version 3
Bought a Linksys BEFCMU10 (version 2) in January of 2003. Initially had a few problems requiring that I reset the modem. Problem turned out to be an ISP problem. Problem fixed and had a year and a half of excellent service.
Yesterday, my Linksys BEFCMU10 failed. I bought a new (version 3) and am back in business.
At $10 per month to rent a modem from my ISP, I am still money ahead buying my modem. However, the Linksys modem does get hot and the heat is probably exacerbated using the modem with a stakable Linksys router as I do.

    works great with AT&T Broadband
After frustrating results trying to set up the cable modem and 20 hours on line with @Home... no, not @Home. Today, ATTBI... (will it be ATTBI-Comcast???)

The new ATTBI help desk officially does not support this modem. However, the reason for my troubles was because the flunkies that were helping me failed to properly register my MAC address.

Be persistent with updating your MAC address with your cable ISP and the Linksys BEFCMU10 will work like a charm.

Works Great!!!, Just Don't Get Tripped Up by the Lights
This is a great little modem. I hooked up through the ethernet port so I didn't have any compatibility problems with the operating system, that only applies through the USB connection. My ISP is ATTBI. Initially, the cable light would not stay nailed up like it did on my leased RCA modem. According to the manual, the cable light is an indication of communication between the modem and the internet. If you are not sending or receiving data, the cable light cycles about every 20 seconds. This was an indication to the ATTBI technician that the modem was receiving an intermittent signal (an incorrect assumption). He advised me that the modem was bad and to contact Linksys. He did however, despite the conclusion he had made, load the MAC address for my Linksys modem into the system luckily for me (I'm sure the irony was lost on that individual or else they were looking to charge me twice to change out the MAC address twice anyway...). Fortunately, I had some "techie" friends who saw through that tech support nonsense and told me to proceed through the set-up process. I never had to contact Linksys and my modem works great. It took less than 5 minutes to set up.

Does not work properly on Windows XP
This modem has all sorts of incompatibility issues with Windows XP over the USB connection. Mine never powers on when I start my computer, I have to yank out the usb cord and plug it back in each time. Bad driver support as well. The rest of these reviews are very misleading and make me wonder if they were written by people who work for the company. After all the modem has been discontinued

    Great performer!
While I don't have the USB version, I can attest to the goodness of the serial version. MUCH more reliable and swift than the INTERNAL 56K modem I replaced. Initial connections are quick and reliable, as are subsequent net-surfing sessions. And it INCLUDES the serial cable (hard-wired), unlike the popular U.S. Robotics external modem I almost bought for much more money (this seems INEXCUSABLY greedy and smug on the part of U.S. Robotics, considering how much more their modem costs!). A great performer and a great value. Its comparative compactness on the desktop does not diminish its power.

    Finally, one that works!
I've been searching for a month now for a gaming USB modem that actually does it's job and I found it with SupraExpress. I tried different modems but they all gave such high pings in quake2, this one gives me 150! Downloads never go below 4.0 and websites load up instantly. This modem is definitely the best 56k I used in my 5 years with computers.

Truly, a network in a box. Just add computers
For once, I was actually completely happy with a computer product bought retail. I put it on 2 machines running win98 and it went literally without problem. The kit provides you with all the hardware, software, and manuals that any semi-computer literate person will need. I highly recommend this product to anybody who has need for a stable and easy to install network. Not to mention it's really fast.

Excellent Product, quick and easy install!!!!!
Okay...I was a little leary. After reading all the reviews on this product and several similar products I was worried. I had seen where some had trouble with AMD PC's as well as the WinME operating system. Well both the PC's I wanted to network are AMD and one is running WinME. I ordered the Network in a box, with the thought in the back of my mind that I would probably have to return it.
However the install went great and the network was literally up and running in an hour. The instuctions are very clear, although they don't mention WinMe at all. I just installed both as Win98, but I did have to searcht he setup disk for the NIC drivers on the WinME machine.

Next we had a cable modem installed. Connected the modem to the switches uplink port, installed the sysgate software that came with the network on one machine as host and the other as client and both pc's had simultaneous Internet access!

I am a complete novice to networking so I was quite timid about all of this.

    Completely happy with this product!

    Couldn't be simpler
I've been changing operating systems a lot lately and have had no problem connecting two ME's, a ME and a W2K and a ME and an XP.

There's no much to do, really. Just hook it up and run the Home Network Connection Wizards. Assign the shared drives, printers, etc. and you're done. The manual is helpful and easy to follow.
