Extreme Wireless
Wireless Internet as a Fashion StatementUsing the Airport Extreme Base Station, in addition to an Airport Extreme reception card in your computer, you can move all around your home or office without the messy clutter of ethernet cables or connection equipment.
Setup is a snap using the included instructions. Within minutes you'll be surfing the web and accessing data wirelessly.
The only setback is the relative sensitivity of the Airport system. It doesn't like being near other computer components or going through walls. But, when push comes to shove, the unit does its job.

Dead after less than a yearBuy the comparable ink from Carrot Ink.com. Cost alot less. Refilling doesn't not work with Canon. This was my 2nd Canon and refilling the cartridges didn't work with either.
Good picture quality, bad software when control is neededMy other complaint with this printer is that it seems to make a lot of extra "noises". The actual printing is relatively quiet, but when it's not printing it will sit there and make all kinds of noises like it's processing information or something. My old (4 yr.+) Epson printer was much "louder" as far as the physical printing, but at least when it wasn't printing it didn't make extra noises.
Luckily I got this printer for free thanks to a rebate offer, but had I actually paid for this printer, I would have returned it. I would recommend going with an Epson printer over this one based on the utility software performance alone. However, for novice users who just want to print pretty pictures and word processing files, they'd probably be pretty happy with this printer.
AWESOME QUALITY !!! GREAT PRINTER!!AAA+++++let me address this "noise" issue i've read in other reviews.. this printer is extremely quiet compared to my Lexmark z-22... i wouldn't consider it a loud printer at all... it does shuffle when it's done printing a page, but it's hardly noticeable.. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRINTER!!!!!

A bit disappointed...The upgrade to the HP 7150 Photosmart was a no-brainer. I did anguish over whether to go with the Canon i850, as I have worked in consumer electronics for the past 6 years, so I know my way around printers, and know the Canon's rep for quality.
Anyway, the printer was incredibly easy to set up and get running! I set it up for max quality and photo ink, and the first photo was STUNNING! I noticed a few peculiarities that bothered me, though:
- Prints were coming out curled at 4x6 AND 8.5x11. I want my prints to come out as flat as the paper they're printed on.
- In my opinion, the printer is WAY too noisy for my taste. My wife and I work opposite shifts, so I have to print the occasional job while she's asleep --- well, WAS asleep!
Overall, I love the 4x6 paper tray, and the HP name. I'm sorry to say, though, I will be returning the 7150 in exchange for a Canon i850. I will miss my nice, quiet 722C(the printer I'm replacing) - hopefully, the Canon won't let me down...
HP 7150Also, business letters are important to me and I can't get envelopes to feed properly.
It has been frustrating not having availability of free customer service.
I will probably replace this unit with an Epson in the near future.

Compact . . Quick. . . And EasyIf you have the money, and space is not a concern, consider the HP 7550. It is a fully functional printer and uses the number 58 photo tank in conjunction with the 56 black and the 57 color. If cost, space and transportability are a concern, then this is your printer. My complaints are actually pretty minor in comparison to the quality of the product, they just happen to stand out a bit, I still give it four out of five stars. . . It does exactly what it is supposed to and the quality of the pictures is top shelf!

perfect little printerThis printer is so easy to use. Just plug it in, add paper, insert the smartmedia, compact flash, or memory stick into the appropriate slot, select the number of the photo you want to print, press the print button and watch a beautiful photo emerge from the printer. It weighs only 3 pounds and can be easily transported anywhere. I take it on vacation with me (in a soft sided, padded lunch box) and surprise my friends with instant copies of photos.
The are only a few drawbacks for this printer. First, photo paper and ink cartridges cost a lot so your photos will not be cheaper than outside processing. I try to purchase in larger quantities to reduce the cost and I use cheaper paper for less important prints. The second drawback is the inability to view the photo on the printer prior to printing. You'll have to jot down the photo's number from your camera screen. And, of course you can't crop or modify your prints on this printer, but that's not really different from developing photos at the store.
As for durability, as I said, I've had this printer for almost a year, have taken it everywhere, printed hundreds of photos and never had the slightest problem. It's a great little printer!
Easy to tote and great quailty photos.

Truly amazingI wished they had provided a complete written manual; the detailed manual is on their provided CD-ROM, in Adobe acrobat format. The Abode program is provided, but it is 153 pages long and takes a bit of time to print. A shortened manual is provided, and covers most of the essentials so a complete manual printed out is not essential.
The software with the scanner is very easy to use and the tools for adjusting the scans are interactive.
If one is using XP on their computer, an updated progam for XP is available..., and is about 15MB as a zip file. I recently scanned a 32 year old Ektachrome slide taken under the worst possible conditions (indoors, incandescent lighting, with the outdoor film). It always had a yellow cast to it, which it normally would under those conditions. Upon recent scanning (to preserve it before it lost everything) it showed embeded dirt and scratches. I used the digital ICE, and it came out sparkling clear, and the drapes which looked like yellowed newspaper became a crystal clear cream white, as it was in the room where I first took the slide. I have also scanned old slides that were badly faded, and restored the color and luster.
The best scanner for 35mm ... period. The sharpness of the images are noticeably improved, which I attribute to the ED lens. The color saturation is wonderful and shadow detail is excellent, even on a constrasty slide.
I use a Coolscan 2000 at work and the 4000 is definitely a huge improvement over that scanner. For the [price] difference, the 4000 is the one to own.
The Digital GEM and ROC are worth that price alone if you have slides or negatives in which the color has shifted. It is absolutely amazing this software restores these old images. I had some very red chromes from the 70s that it restored to full color.
While some reviewers have complained about the sharpness of negative scans, I have not found this to be a problem. And Nikon includes the option of using a film holder rather than the negative adapter for scanning.
In short, this scanner is the one to beat. I can't imagine 35mm film scanning getting any better. This one is a keeper, a real workhorse for the photographer who wants to bridge film and digital with a high-quality scanner.

Does not work sufficiently with Mac OS X
HP ExcellenceAs usual, HP is superbly reliable, although supplies are no bargin (I'd never use gray market toner to save pennies).
Some folks complain about no printer cable - go to a retail outlet - no cable there either. It's standard practice, not deception. HP has captured the laser printer market through there very common 11 years mean time between failures of the printer frame (excluding the toner cartridge), excellent quality, and competitive cost per print (~2.2 cents per page with 1200 series), and speed 15 pages per minute. The copies this little guy produces are as good as the local copy shop!
I'd buy HP again without hesitation.
Great Machine, Great Value!I have been using this machine for about four months and have no complaints whatsoever...it works perfectly every time.
The only warning I would wish to extend to users is that in the event you have difficulties installing the included software, try rebooting your machine without drivers running and then running the install....this software seems to be highly sensitive to that, at least it was on my WIN 98SE machine.
Other than that, the machine was easy to set up and is a breeze to use, completely dependable in all respects.

Excellent Printer but. . .After using the 990Cxi for a few weeks, if I had to do it over, I think I'd buy the 970. I don't use the automatic paper sensor option very often (how often do you switch papers? and oh by the way, manual switching involves 3 mouse clicks), I use the wireless printing option even less so the only thing left is speed. for $100 more, Hmmmmm.
The last little Gem that you'll discover is the cost of the replacement (color) cartridge for the 990 (or 970 - same one). At Costco or Sam's Club they are $50 for the large (c6578a) ones.
Still, the printing quality is excellent even on plain paper. With photopaper you can't tell the difference between real photos and the printed copy. Photo Ret II (or the newer III) is the way to go.
Having said all of that, I still like these HP printers.
Great Text, Photos and Gray Scale Output! Cons: Read BelowThis printer really stands out on the output speed. Don't believe the speeds you read in ads or even on the box. Those speeds are in draft mode output. I print most of my text in draft mode now with this 990CXI on (standard copy machine paper)and you would have thought it came right out of a laser printer. I could not believe that! Very nice job HP. Speed and quality even in draft mode, but that is for black and white text only! Any other printing you do should be set to normal for great output but there goes the ppm output speed. It falls to a much slower rate. I have been a digital photo freak for a few years now. The only way to print great looking photos on either of these printers is to use photo-matte or photo-glossy paper. The speed is noticeably faster than the 952C when set on 1200x2400 / best output. But not an extra $160+ worth of speed over the 952C cost. I prefer the matte paper as it dries quickly, never leaves any finger prints from handling the pictures and just looks better in my opinion.
CON: The 990CXI is suppose to automatically select the printer paper for you. Paper, best settings etc. for the print job at hand. This printer FAILS HORRIBLY in doing so. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible.. This printer driver and or printer gets an "F" in that department from me. May be a new driver when released will cure this set back, but I would not bet on it.
Besides the above mentioned complaint, this printer is an excellent choice for the home or small business user that demands superior quality in their printing needs. I gave this 990CXI a 4 out of 5 star rating due to the fact that the paper selector does not work and I did not have to pay for it. If I had to pay my own money for it I would have gave it a 3 out of 5 stars. Why pay hard earned money for something that does not work as advertised?? I would wait a year or so for the price to fall $100.00 less than it is now before I spent my hard earned money on this printer. The price will fall quickly, as they always do in the computer industry. If you want to be able to say that you have the latest and greatest speed wise (sold as not networkable, but it can be done with extra hardware) printer HP has to offer, this is for you. Hope this review helped.. From a fellow techie to you. Happy Holidays!!
This printer still kicks booty - In a good way

A great value
One the best "extra" storage drives bar none!
Excellent productPerformance is good, I usually back up around 700MB in 20-25 minutes, certainly I don't feel it to be too slow. I have travelled internationally several times with my ORB and a few disks without experiencing any problem.
The main issue I had was buying other disks in England in 2001 when Castlewood was supplying the US market first and most shops across the ocean ran out of stock. I wish those disks were more widely available, they are impossible to find in Mexico for example.

well done product, but still a few bugsI have had it for over a month now, purchased in July 2003, and I LIKE it. I have primarily used it to scan text from photocopies of journal articles. These are clearly not the highest quality text material from which to scan, but nevertheless, the IRIS pen handles them acceptably. By that, I mean, I get around 85% accuracy. This clearly means, I have to go back and retype things, but still, I am able to capture large quanities of text to use *in a very rapid fashion*. Like one of the previous posters, I do tend to use it like a highlighter.
As a word of instructive advice...it may be difficult to figure out how to hold the pen. Just try different positions and your hand will develop 'memory' in holding it correctly, such that it captures text.
I guess my overall experience is neither the 100% success that others have had, nor the despair that a few have faced. I would certainly buy this product again.
This baby adjusts for colored backgrounds
Best Handheld ScannerI first bought the Quick Link Pen from Wizcom and got incredibly frustrated by that product's slowness and ridiculously poor accurary. I ended up returning my Quick Link Pen and getting the IRIS II Exec instead.
The Iris II Exec is incredibly fast and more importantly incredibly accurate. I can scan faster than I would with a highlighter and I rarely get mistakes. I'm a Biochem Grad Student and I scan a lot of words that wouldn't seem easily recognized, but the IRIS II works like a champ.
Even though, the Iris II Exec is not portable, it's accuracy and speed make up for it in leaps and bounds. The company's claim of 99% accuracy is pretty on the money. I type 80 wpm and scanning with this pen is far faster than typing.
If you're looking for a Handheld Scanner, this is by far the best choice.
The new stations come with two Ethernet ports and use the 802.11g frequency in addition to being downward compatible with 802.11b stations, cards, and networks. So, you can have an extreme base station and an older airport card. The speed will be limited to 11 mps, but it works.
The stations come in two models. The more expensive model also has a dialup modem and can be used to DIAL IN into networks when you are on the road or outside your home or office. This is a big advantage over the Ethernet model and should justify the extra [$$] or so. At least Apple lowered the prices to [$$$] and [$$$], but they are still overpriced compared to like models. However, if still have a dialup connection and need a network at home or for a small business, the modem model would be hard to pass up.
One drawback to the Extreme stations are range. They are limited to 50 feet, whereas, the Graphite and Snow stations have ranges of up to 150 feet. The Extreme models can be outfitted with externel antennas (to extend range) from Mac specialists Dr. Bott or others, but this comes with an added price. Unless your computers stay within 50 of the base station you will need an antenna.
Another problem that some people have experienced is interference with phones and microwave signals. Apple recently updated the firmware on this Station to help with the problem. Some early stations also had problems keeping the signal. The updated firmware is supposed to solve this as well.
Overall, these stations in theory are faster and the price is almost the same as the Snow station. However, there have been problems with firmware, interference, and the short range. Problems that firmware should fix (sans the range).
Although, the range is not considered a problem (and firmware won't fix that), but a short-coming. If you need to be on the 802.11g frequency and you love Apple for their easy solutions and setup, get this station.
This station also works well with Windows PCs and Windows users should not shy away just because it has an Apple logo.
Compare with D-link and Linkys 802.11g routers and base stations.
