Plug and PlayI just bought my iPod for the windows and needed to upgrade my PC to USB 2.0. I went looking around for a USB 2.0/Firewire card and noticed that the ones that were listed on amazon have terrible reviews. Many of the issues were with configuration and many were just terrible products. I really needed to get the card quick because my iPod was just sitting there doing nothing, so I decided to thrown caution to the wind and try it out. I blocked out severals hours of my day thinking that it would be a nasty process. However, I plugged it in and it just worked! No configuration issues or anything. I'm writting this review as I'm downloading my music to my iPod. Still don't know about long term issues with it but I'm happy with the configuration!

Simple, basic, does the job it was meant forAssuming you've got an available USB port on your PC, and are running a USB-compatible version of Windows (Win98SE or higher, or Windows 2000/XP), this product does exactly what you'd expect it to. Simple to use - just plug your PS/2-style mouse and/or keyboard into the unit, then plug the unit into an available USB jack on your PC, and Windows will autodetect the devices.
This is an excellent device to use if you want to attach two PS/2 style keyboard/mouse combos to the same PC - for example, if you've got both an adult and a child-size keyboard you want to run on the same PC, and both keyboards have PS/2 jacks.
Device also works great if you want to attach a PS/2 style keyboard or mouse to a laptop which has only USB ports.

NICE!!!....ok Maybe I'm exagerating a bit...just OK.Well, I could consider this part of my update, I use to use a Pentium II 450mhrz TNT 16 mb graphics card, and 128 mb of RAM. It was ok, but when I ugraded to a pentium III 800mhrz, 256 mb of RAM, and this video card, the biggest difference was in the processor, I coudn't really notice that much of a difference when upgrading when using the new video card...IT WAS JUST OK. I'm sure it would run games today and future games a lot better than my ol' TNT 1 would....still.....People say this video card I use is "standard", but from my perspective...there's no such thing as "standard". They say:"I HAVE GEFORCE 3! IT ROCKS! GEFORCE 2 ...!" Or "GEFORCE 4 rocks!UPGRADE TOO IT DUDE!"
But I don't really care what they say....it runs OK to me.
Fine, you see...I'm more of a stragedy/role playing type pc game genere kinda guy...so I don't play first person shooters very often unless it's a must have, the last must have first person shooter I played was a game called "Unreal", and it ran perfect!
Well....what ever those other people say...all I think is this video card kicks ...!

Need an Extra Serial Port that won't kill battery life?!Socket Communications keeps bringing the handheld market some of the lowest power consuming PCMCIA and CF devices around, and the Serial I/O CF card is no exception! I use it primarily on my HP 200LX palmtop when I need an extra serial port for a mouse, and it has almost no noticeable affects on my battery life! My friend borrows it to connect his HPC (which doesn't have serial ports) to his cell phone whenever I'm around. He should buy his own already! And of course, it's small enough to keep tucked away in your carry bag unnoticed just in case of an emergency.

Incompatibility with Jornada 548We have been trying to use the I/O card with a Jornada 548 with Fowler Gages' digital calipers and Taltech's CE-Wedge software. We were warned by Socket Communications that there was a potential problem with freezing up if the serial com port was not turned off before turning off the computer. Based on this, we purchased the card and were careful not to do this, but found that after 1-3 hours of work, the computer froze up to the point that we needed to remove the battery to get it to turn off. Based on this with 2 computers, we do not recommend the combination. Socket agrees that there is a problem with the driver, but has no plans to make any changes. Suggests using a Compaq IPAQ instead.
OK overall, but a bit expensiveEasy installation for my Casio E115, I used it to connect to a barcode scanner for stocktaking a warehouse. The speed is ok (I wonder if there're 4Mbps models anyway?), and the connectors seem to be stretchable and durable enough for the job.

I/O Magic 5.1 Surround PCI Sound Card (DR-SQ700)

GarbageI'm no novice but I couldn't even install the hardware, never mind the drivers. The CD-in jack didn't fit on the J4 or J5 input on my (Intel 815e) chipset; and the card didn't seat properly in the PCI slot.
Brought it back the same day and got the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz audio card. Installed like a dream and the sound ROCKS!
Don't waste your time. The cheap price says it all - you get what you pay for.

serious software issuesI bought this card thinking it was comparible to Creative Labs
5.1 cards. Boy, was I wrong. This card drops audio and does not work with Windows XP. The website says the drivers are the latest
but this is incorrect they still do not work. Do not buy this card.

It works very well. The two reviews, as of this date, say that the card does not work on their computer or that they have major problems with it. I have a motherboard with onboard sound, and I will bet they do also. I also have Windows XP. Disable or remove the onboard sound, reboot the computer, then install the drivers for the sound card. It will work just fine. You can find this information on the I/O Magic webpage under their forums. Good sources for information if you are having problems. I did have a problem with WinRip, an included software program. Freezes every time. I dumped it. Rest of the free software works o.k. If all the software worked, I would have rated this card a 5.
