Nice toy!
Everything I was looking for:1) It records in 690,000 pixels (520 lines of horizontal resolution)
2) Megapixel on still photo shots (1152 X 864 instead of 640 x 480)
3) Its size (very small but not too small so you don't jitter the camera)
4) Its ability to record streaming video (to put on my website)
5) 7 lux rating / 0 lux with night shot
6) Color viewfinder
7) optional manual control on brightness, backlight and focus
Others that I looked at had 1 or more of the feautres missing (like still photo of 640x480 or CCD pixels of 480,000).. so in the end, I found this to be the best priced camcorder for the money ...(Only difference I see in TRV27 is that TRV27 comes with some editing tools... (which I won't use anyways). I also looked at the TRV17 which had everything I wanted expect it's photo resolution was at 640X480.
Video Editing with P-III, 450mhz, 256 mem, Windows XP with firewire port was a breeze. Just install the firewire card and load the drivers.
You transfer still shots via the usb port. Its very easy to do. Just plug in the USB cable (it comes with one) and you will see "Sony Digital Camera" on "My computer" Just drag and drop your photos into a folder.
Although the color and sharpness of this camera is amazing, my only gripe is that the video and stills gets grainy with low light. So I'd suggest you buy a light for the camera if you plan on doing a lot of indoor shots (or at least make sure you have a good light source.)
I also recommend you buy 1) UV filter lens (mostly to protect the camcorder's lens) 2) 32MB or 64MB memory stick (instead of the 8mb it comes with) 3) Wide angle lens 4) carrying case 5) Extra battery (the one it comes with lasts about an hour)
Even if you don't buy this camcorder, after all my research, I would stick with Sony or Panasonic camcorders (they seem to get the best reviews)

a great general-purpose lenseThe lens is fairly heavy and after a few months of use, you will likely find that the weight of the glass is enough to make the lens telescope out when it's around your neck. If you want a compact lens that will let you take great pictures in a wide range of settings, this is probably the best lens you could get for a Canon camera. If you're a pro, you'll probably have a backpack full of lenses and you're not reading this anyway, so I'm not talking to you. If you want something you can sling over your shoulder and not think about when you take the kids to Disney World, get a cheaper, lighter lens.
The Image Stabilizer (IS) makes the lens a lot more expensive (some lenses are offered with and without it), so you should know what you're paying for. Some notes about the Image Stabilizer:
- The image stabilizer itself is basically a spinning lens element (piece of glass) that acts as a gyroscope. When the lens moves slightly, such as camera shake caused by your pulse, the gyroscopic element stays put while the other elements move. Because the gyroscopic element is no longer in line with the other elements, it effectively bends the light just enough to compensate for the lens moving.
- Having the IS feature does not mean that you can take crisp photos with a 1/20 sec exposure while jumping on a trampoline. What it means is that you can often get away with not carrying a tripod in normal lighting, and in low light when your photos would be very blurry (assuming you're not using really fast film), the IS will make the images significantly less blurry. An obvious corollary is that you can avoid using a flash in many situations when a flash is undesirable or prohibited.
- The rule of thumb to get crisp photos without image stabilization is that your shutter speed should not be longer than 1 over your focal length. So if you are taking a picture zoomed in at 135mm, your shutter speed needs to be 1/135 sec or faster, and since no camera I know of has a 1/135 setting, that means going up to 1/160 sec (on cameras with stops in 1/3 increments) or faster. The image stabilizer means that you can go 2 f-stops slower than you normally could using the rule I just explained. So if you're shooting at 135mm and you have the IS switched on, you can shoot at 1/40 sec instead of 1/160 sec. That means four times as much light goes past the shutter, or that you can get the same quality results with 1/4 of the ambient light you would normally need.
- There are some times when you SHOULD NOT use the IS feature. You should definitely not use it if you are in a car, on a roller coaster, if you are walking, or in any other situation where the camera is moving or vibrating a lot. You will get blurrier than normal images because the gyroscopic element is constantly moving all over the place, trying to prevent the image from moving. Only have IS switched on when you are using the camera in a normal, stationary, handheld manner. You should also not use IS when you are using a tripod, or when you have the camera resting on a vibration-less surface for an image. The reason is that the gyroscopic element will be spinning even though it's not needed, and while this isn't really bad, the motion could decrease photo quality (I've never noticed this, but this is what Canon claims), and it is unnecessarily using battery power.
- Finally, not all of Canon's IS lenses use the same IS technology; many of the more expensive and newer lenses are better, but it was hard enough for me to come up with what this lens cost--it'll be awhile before I can rationalize three times as much for an upgrade.
One last note about third-party lenses, in case you're thinking about it. I know the price may be compelling but there genuinely does seem to be major quality differences, and while all Canon EOS lenses work will all Canon EOS cameras, no matter how many years apart they are in design, it has happened several times that even the best of the third party lenses (Sigma, some others) do not function properly with new Canon cameras. I happily buy knock-offs with other things, but not with lenses, flashes, or other camera components that actually communicate with my camera.
Excellent Walkabout LensThe 28-135mm IS USM Zoom is the one I use all the time now on the Canon 10D, and that will be the case until I get over the sticker shock of the 10D/28--135mm combo and start adding other lenses to my kit.
In the meantime, this lens gets the job done very well. It gives you good range for a variety of of shots, from portraits to telephotos. There is even a macro mode, which gives you the opportunity to do close-ups--not really a true macro, but okay for shots of flowers, your kitty cat's face, etc. It is the flexibility of this lens that makes it so appealing if all you have is just one lens. And remember that if you mount this lens on a digital camera, like the 10D, the range is actually extended by a factor of 1.6.
The USM focuses fast, and the Image Stabilization (IS) really works. In fact, I've been spoiled by it, and IS is now a must for any of the longer lenses I might purchase in the future.
The IS system "locks" on target so that camera shake is eliminated or at least seriously minimized. This means fewer shots ruined by camera shake, and the IS system allows the user to shoot handheld at slower shutter speeds. This isn't just advertising hype. It works.
The image quality is quite good. I get good color saturation, contrast, and sharpness. After tweaking some shots in Photoshop, I was able to turn out some excellent 13x19 inch prints.
As others have pointed out, if you are just starting out with a Canon DSLR or SLR and want one good general purpose lens, this is it.
Beautiful, sharp pictures; extremely versatile lensWhat has also impressed me about this lens is the image quality. It is definitely a step above the Digital Rebel kit lens, and shows much finer detail than that lens. It also shows better contrast. There is a very slight amount of chromatic aberration, but it's only noticable on very close inspection, and is no worse than any other zoom lens I've used. Overall, this is an excellent addition to any Canon user's outfit.

Cambridge SoundWorks PCWorks Multimedia Speaker System, CompMy ONE complaint is that the on/off is on the back of the sub, an inconvenience, especially since I do not always like to have the speakers on. However, for $25 and this kind of sound, I am happy to deal with it.
I strongly recommend these as long as you don't mind the on/off's placement.

Great Value! You can view the display at almost 180 degrees and it doesn't "black out" like an LCD panel. Don't be disappointed if a standard TV signal doesn't look "stunning" I think it's just the nature of the beast. It still looks pretty good. I am anxious to switch over to "the dish" so i can get HDTV. Oh yeah, it's light (for a big set) 135 lbs. you can actually move the damn thing if you need to! Aesthetically the set is gorgeous to look at even when its turned off. My favorite thing is to put 2 large pictures side by side and watch the main channels (coming straight from the cable) and then "surf" the cable box channels and the window beside it. This can be done by piping the cable box output into a video input. I was very hesitant buying the tv sight unseen but am very pleased. BTW, you can go to the Zenith website and download the PDF manual for the set, that is very helpful. Finally saw picture in HDTV and it was STUNNING. Downside, NO DVI INPUT! DVI is apparently the newer pure digitial uncompressed connection (a little larger than an RGB jack) Newer TVs have them WHY DOESN'T THIS ONE? That's the only drawback I can think of. The HDTV picture into the RGB jack still looks fantastic.
Nice productThe HD programming while limited in availability looks outstanding. I thought the brightness levels might be an issue in a bright room like I have but it's not. The TV is surprisingly slim, and not particularly heavy for a set of this size.
Great Buy!that will serve as a media/rec room. I wanted to buy a tv that we could surf the internet and play video games on without worrying about burn in. The picture quality is just as good as the Sony and Panasonic and is 2" bigger. It is very stylish. The pictures dont do it justice. You can't see the front speakers like in the pics. I could not find a picture of the matching stand anywhere online, but ordered it any way. The stand is just as stylish. It has 2 heavy glass shelves for components that are open and do not have doors. The TV only takes 15-20 secs to turn on. My kids won't let me near it. They have been playing Xbox on it non stop. The built in speakers are very good. I purchased mine for $2,499 right here on Amazon. $1000 cheaper than Bestbuy. It goes on sale periodically. I recommend waiting for such a sale. It was delivered in perfect condition.

Awesome Device. It works pretty fast too; however, I did encounter some speed problems when I run programs off that drive and play mp3s at the same time. The seek time drastically slows. That's not really the fault of the device, as it was an old hard drive that I put in and I am pushing it.
I totally recommend this drive kit if you have spare drives sitting around that you want to make use of.
Exactly what I neededI bought the ADS Tech USB 2.0 Drive Kit to achieve 3 main goals: a) Bigger, b) Faster, and c) Cheaper external storage. After researching several other products, ADS Tech's was the EASY winner in all three categories. And even though *Easier* wasn't a requirement, it was a snap to set up (about 20 minutes).
After my computer detected the Drive Kit and HDD, I was able to use FDISK to create a partition then format it just like any HDD. It was VERY FAST and VERY QUIET. Of course, to get the best performance, you must install a USB 2.0 port adapter in your computer. For desktop systems, you can buy a PCI-to-USB 2.0...(they're no harder to install than say...an internal modem). PC Cards are available for laptops.
I first tested my USB Drive Kit on a PC running Windows ME w/built-in USB 1.1 ports. It worked great (faster than moving data across a 10Mb LAN) Then I plugged it into a computer with USB 2.0 ports and it was FANTASTIC. I copied about 50 gigs of MP3 files to it without any problems. I even defragged it as quickly as any other local drive. After using the Drive Kit over an entire weekend, I was confident enough to delete the 50 gigs of data I still had on my internal HDD. The next day, I just turned the Drive Kit off & left my computer running while I was at work. Can't do that with my internal drives.
I didn't like other USB hard drives like those from Maxtor, etc., since they're more expensive and come with built-in HDD's that don't support swapping with other bigger or better drives. ADS Tech did it right. Put in whatever HDD you want. This is a fast, reliablle, & flexible solution for a GREAT price. I bought a USB 2.0 Drive Kit, a 60GB HDD, and a PCI-to-USB 2.0 Port Adapter...
Even though I can put different drives in the kit, I'm going to buy another one... GREAT PRODUCT. I recommend it for anyone who wants an inexpensive, external, transportable, storage solution.
GODSENDless than 15 mins to put togheter. Instalation was a total breeze. Web page for ADS offered upgraded drivers. USB 2 adds tremendous speed.
What can I say, I have more problems with my vcr. I am spreading the news.

Kapow!! I never thought my 'puter'd be my home stereoSpeaking as someone who bought his first stereo system with a school loan in the 70's I'm just amazed at the sound quality these speakers produce for well under $100. As for the volume and control complaints that a few people mentioned it is true that my son's electric guitar amp is louder. Of ocurse it's three feet tall. And there are very few controls on the speakers themselves which is just fine since every software program that plays music has an equalizer, balance control and such in it. I really don't need to set volume or balance six different ways.
I'm sure there are better speakers out there but with these you are well into the land of diminishing returns. By that I mean you'd need to spend a LOT to improve quality much at all. Get 'em, listen to 'em and see.
Absolutely Excellent

Good value
Value for money !My wife insist that we tried the speakers with the Jurassic Park movie, just to compare it's bass reproduction capabilities. Boy, It sounded much better than the mini-hifi system that was originally in it's place.
After a few more movies and live concerts, I decided that the speakers should stay connected to the TV. The very same day, I went out to get another one, for my PC.
Awesome Sound System for your computer....

Great Mouse for the price. If you want absolutely the best mouse in the market regardless of the price, go for the MicroSoft mouses. Their design is superve for pretty much everyone with hands in various shapes and sizes. Too bad, MS discontinued their ball mouse. Ask to any professional gamers out there. With profer care, ball mouse provide better control for hardcore gamers.
A gamers mouseI learned a long time ago that the price of a mouse does not have anything to do with quality. This mouse outperforms the more expensive ones easilly.
The best simple mouse.
- Cordless mouse with 6-foot range
- Comfortable shape
- Thumb button for easier use
- Scroll wheel
- Long-lasting batteries
Used price: $9.99

I love this Mouse
Thoughtfully designed, for starters. The only drawback to owning this mouse is that once you get used to it, using other computers (with traditional mice) is a bit annoying. It's easy to get used to using the two extra buttons (all four buttons are highly programmable), which for me are double-click (the thumb button) and F12, which operates my video card's zoom function (the scroller button), which is very handy with this mouse, since I'm not tied down to sitting right at my desk. I find I change how I sit and where the mousepad is a lot when I use my computer (sometimes I even use my wristrest for the mousing surface...I suppose you'd have to see my desk to understand why that makes sense, but it does), and it is made far easier by the fact that I don't have to reposition or pull on the mouse cord every time I do that. I never feel tired or cramped after using my computer, probably due to the fact that I shift around frequently.
Since it's designed primarily for the right hand (and quite well), the only real drawback to the actual usage of this mouse would be experienced by lefties, I suppose, but then again if you hold it at an angle and reset the orientation it should be pretty comfortable. Try one out in a store if you don't want to worry about possibly sending it back later.
Overall, this mouse is superb; I plan to keep it until I need to replace it with another one, which I hope is a long time off. I can't think of anything I don't like about it.
One of the best purchases I have ever madeIt's AMAZING how much this mouse is better than others out there. It is incredibly comfortable in your hand. Without that darn wire tugging at you when you move the mouse, the stress on your hand is much, much less. You can even use your mouse on a side tray, or on a lap-tray or anything else. You could vary your position daily to keep your wrist in shape.
I had heard from some people that cordless mice had slow response time - but I use this for everything from design work to word processing to database development to serious gaming, and it's never let me down.
I recommend this to every computer person I know. It's really, really great!
I did my research on the Internet for about one year until I decided to buy this camcorder. Actually I wanted the TRV27 and I changed my mind in the last moment because the difference in price between these two models in too big ... I don't regret my decision. The 2.5" LCD is just enough for us.
TRV25 is not very good in low light but also it's not bad too. It's just good. After reading some reviews on the Internet I was expecting actually the camcorder to be even worst in low light. It's OK but I'm considering to buy a external light.
In good light the camcorder is amazing! Very good resolution (I have a digital HDTV which lets me know immediately if the signal is not good), very nice life-like colors, extremely clear and clean sound!
I had no problem at all to hook up TRV25 on the USB port (I have Windows 2000 professional). Then I got a Zoltrix FireWire card and I couldn't see the camcorder with it. I called Sony and Microsoft and I sent an email to Zoltrix in Hong Kong (no answer back yet). They couldn't help me too much. Sony said that you don't need any special Sony drivers for TRV25. It's true but the general DV driver I had in my Win2K was bad. If you have problems with your FireWire connection you may try the following links: http://www.reactorcritical.com/faq-dv/faq-jvc.shtml and http://www.siig.com/knowledge/10050286.HTM. Now I'm fine. The Zoltrix card is working fine and smooth and the cable (comes with the card) is long so you don't have to stay with your camera underneath you desk. Price paid (for card, cable and software): $51 CDN +Tax.
My problem now is that I couldn't find yet the best solution to store the footage. Hopefully I'll be able to find the right settings in KVCD (http://kvcd.org). To store the footage on VHS tapes is out of question! From my camcorder I'm getting a nice 520 lines and if I store this on VHS I'll have at the end just 240 horizontal lines! Where is the point of spending so much money for a digital camcorder then? So far using the KVCD the colors are good, sound is good, the resolution is good (704 x 480) - much better than VCD (352 x 240) or SVCD (480 x 480) (check http://www.vcdhelp.com ). The only problem is that the image is not smooth. It looks like I'm loosing frames. That happens only when the camera is moving fast to the left or to the right. ...
I love my camcorder and of course I recommend it to anybody. If you are shopping for a camcorder go digital first and second give a chance to Sony TRV25/27 and you'll fall in love.
Good luck!
