Zoom Adsl Confusing to Set up, but woth it
My Bellsouth-supplied DSL noden, an Alcatel, went on the brink after 2 years. I bought the Zoom ADSL USB modem. It took me about six hours of trial and error to get the right protocols to get on and surf. The problem is not so much the software as finding the protocols. The 'normal' USA protocol 'PPPOE" did not work. Unfortunately, Bellsouth only supports 2 modems, and could not tell me the setup for any Zoom. PDF documents at Bellsouth and Zoom were not helpful. I finally found some hints in a DSL Reports forum.
The modem is working fine now. It is small and can be placed anywhere around the computer, and speed (941/218, out of max 1500/256) is good.
For the price, it is an excellent buy.

      Terrible products
I bought the 2502 powerline ethernet connector and the 2521 powerline access point. I was adding them to a network which is using two NetGear XE-102 powerline connectors. The Netgear products installed instantly without any software (except to add encryption, if you want). After several hours neither Siemens/SpeedStream product worked. Passwords are required for each device. You have to match to the default settings on the access point for all your devices. Forget it. It's a nice idea to have a powerline access point and I hope Netgear develops one. The instruction booklets are cryptic and useless.

      Worked great
Worked right out of the box for me. The literature for configuring the "network" password is wanting, but with the help of a web search I was able to do it.

Works right out of the box
I bought the SS2502 and the SS2510. They work fine. Never a problem. They are fast and reliable. I'm going to buy more SS2502s. A great, inexpensive way to wire the house.

      Nothing but nightmares
This product is not for the faint of heart. If you like to spend long hours trying to make things work ,then this is the one.I bought it tried it and returned it.It just would not work right on my PC.(Win95 OSR2)I had to reboot 5 or 6 times everytimes to get my system to boot-up.It gave me .Registry errors, blue screens, missing files(DLL),even tried the newer driver from Zoom, but it crashed my PC.I reformated C: twice.I really tried hard but my system just chocked on it.Once in a while it would work and it was pretty good but that never lasted long.I went back to my Telepath for windows(28K) and upgraded it to V90 56k with one easy download.

      Easy Installation
I found that the installation of this modem was very simple. The people who found this modem hard to install must have forgotten to read the instructions. I loaded the drivers, installed the card and the rest is history. A great modem at a great price.

      Very Please
I am very pleased with my Zoom PCI modem. It was easy to install, and connects at 56K. This is one of the first times I've ever had a device install without problems. GOOD JOB ZOOM

      Disappointment
...The modem was DOA. This is...a lack of quality assurance on part of the manufacturer. I purchased a U.S. Robotics and was connected to the internet in 15 minutes.
      Lesson Learned.

      Maximum Performance.....Minimum Headaches
What can you say about a modem that installs in NT 4.0 in less than 10 minutes? About time, maybe?

For the record, I installed it in an HP Kayak XA Workstation running NT 4.0 with 128mb RAM, 4.3gig HD, Matrox Millenia AGP and Soundblaster card and equipment.

Connection speed is always 43,000+ with download speeds consistently 4.5+. It's not my T1 at work, but for home use, this one's a keeper.

Very good, but not quite perfect
I purchased the Psion 56k Travel Modem as an experiment and in the end I couldn't be (much) happier. I use a Windows CE-based Casio, a Palm IIIe, and a Compaq IPAQ Pocket PC an a regular basis and I hoped to find a modem that would work with all three. Setup of the modem connection with the Casio and the Compaq was effortless, and with a little web-time to download system updates for the Palm (and a little help from PSION to get the proper software)I now have a modem that I can use with my hand-held devices, as well as my laptop. Overall, an excellent product at a price that gets better every month. The biggest plus? it works *well* beyond the one foot distance advertised. I can put it high on a bookshelf and sit comfortably anywhere within about 6 feet. The largest drawback, and the reason for only four stars? It is not Fax capable.

      Great modem for your PDA
This is a great way to get on the internet while on the go. It works with almost all platforms of PDA, be it a Palm, Pocket PC or Psion. Also, because it uses the IRDA port, you can get on the net and still use your expansion slot for memory. My only complaint is the battery life... which falls somewhat short of the advertised "4 hours". If you plan on doing a lot of traveling, you might want to pick up the optional AC adapter for this while you are at it. Other than the battery life, this is a great little unit and well worth the money.

OMNISKY IS GONE - product useless
I purchased this product on ebay for about 10 bucks. Well, that's all it's worth these days. With Omnisky being bought by Earthlink and Earthlink stopping the service, it's completely useless. I'm surprised to see this here on Amazon.

      Yes it works, but.....
I used this service for a year (Omnisky was giving the modems away then). What I found was that it retrieved my email OK and it let me access some web sites OK, but it was not great at either. The biggest drawback is that the Palm OS won't let you view attachments. What I ended up doing was borrowing a computer when I was on the road and accessing my email throug webmail. While that was a hassel sometimes, I didn't have to carry all the plugs and chargers etc. as well as my Palm. You see the charger for your Palm won't charge the modem. You have to carry a separate charget for it.

The perfect solution is yet to arrive (though it is close). Save your money and wait until their is a CE based PDA with continuous wireless access that also has a phone included and that has coverage all over the US. When that gets here, your investment will pay off.

      Nice Product
I have been using a Palm Device since the old Personal Palm unit. Althought I loved my Personal Palm I didn't utilize it as much as I would have liked. There are only so many address, to do, and calendar entries once person can have. If I was going to upgrade my Palm I wanted it to have more funtionality.

With this is mind I decided on the Palm Vx and the Omnisky Wirless. Once received I went ahead with the setup of my account/modem and found it to be very straight forward with no issues. I setup my outisde POP3 email account with no problems.

The performance of the wireless modem is very good, download times are pretty quick. The content of the service is good with plenty of news, weather, sports, and other usefull information. Web site viewing is best with Omnisky content partners. I have not had much luck going out to other web sites but I wasn't expecting a lot in that catergory.

Overall I think this is a great wireless unit and service plan....

      Incompatable with HP Jornada 568
Purchased for use with my HP Jornada 568. Because of a raised bevel on the front of the card - it will not fit in the CF type II slot on the Jornada 568.

Works great with Zaurus SL-5000D, too
I took the advice from the other "electronics fan" viewer and got it from eBay. It indeed worked "out-of-the-box"! Sharp should really include this in their accessories list in addition to the other landline modem from Pretec.

      Works great with Zaurus SL-5500
If you're looking for a CompactFlash modem for your Linux based Zaurus SL-5500, look no further. I tracked down some brief information stating that this modem worked "out-of-the-box" with the SL-5x00 and, indeed, it does. As soon as I plugged it in and configured my PPP connection I was online in seconds. The only issue someone might raise with it is the dongle; which does not bother me a bit since it has a filter built into it for digital lines...

Buy this modem to avoid renting one from the ISP
I was very pleased to obtain this modem (3CR29210) and installed it without any problems. I transferred the cables from the previously installed modem and the new modem picked up the cable connection in less than 5 minutes.

The only negative is that the package had a sticker on the outside that indicated a different model (3CR29220)should be used for installation on the ( @home ) cable setup.

I called the 3Com installation number, listed in the "getting started guide" and a very capable person informed me that for home use the models were interchangable. That turned out to be the case and I highly recommend this as a replacement for an ISP supplied rental modem. The manufacturer also has a 5 year support warranty for this modem.

Great performance on AT&T Broadband (RoadRunner)
After five minutes, I was up and running on AT&T Broadband formerly MediaOne's RoadRunner service (i.e. mediaone.net). Like prior reviews have stated, this modem is 3Com's 3CR29210. Throughout the documentation, you are told to use the settings for the 3Com 3CR29220. This modem offers simple setup and excellent performance.

I was leasing a 3Com 3CR29220 from AT&T and (...) this modem makes financial sense if you plan to use the service for a year or more. It is too bad 3Com couldn't stay in the retail cable modem business and continue to offer inexpensive modems.

Rocks with @Home / ATT Broadband
This is the 3Com 3CR29210. A sticker on the modem says to use the 3Com 3CR29220 settings for @Home service. 3Com has discontinued all their consumer cable models but they are still honoring the 5 year warranty according to their website.

This modem uses the Broadcom chip used in high-end models like Motorola, Nortel but it's half the price.

I read a review saying that there are still engineers in 3Com who are still working on their discontinued cable modem products and these should not go outdated any more than the other cable modems.

It "locked" in about 3 seconds the first time I plugged it into my cable outlet, which is probably really good because the cable guy was telling me to wait for 15mins to an hour. I get a max downstream bandwidth of 3800 Kbps with it and my ATT Broadband service.

      can't stay connected!
What's the point of having a modem if it doesn't work properly? I haven't been able to stay connected to the internet. Looking at the connection signal at the bottom of the window, after about 30 seconds, the transfer signals are off. Shortly after I can disconnected. First I thought it was my computer or my ISP but I barrowed another modem and I stayed connected for hours!

      Zoom/Modem V92 USB Mini
I've had this modem for a week, having replaced a Rockwell 56K PCI (That I broke while installing an additional hard drive), it is the best "bad luck" I ever had, this new modem (3090-00-03) is awesome! I used to think the phone lines were simply bad in my area, well if they are, this modem can handle them. Connect speeds are at leat 50% better with practically NO disconnects. I strongly recommend it. A single strip of Velcro holds the modem to side of my mini-tower so being external is no problem. I have seen no performance degradation to my USB ports, despite having 7 USB items. Congratulations ZOOM Telephonics!!!

      good
when i had just purchase this item it was good because i was running window 98 but now i had upgrade to window xp and it require for your computer to run 730mg and faster my computer only run 500mg. so if i want it to work again i would have to go back to window 98.
