I'va had two of these modems with a 3Mbits DSL line, they both had the same problem : They work fine for about 3 weeks, and then blam, they just limit my bandwidth to ~128k, I have to unplug it, wait a little and then replug it ... At the begining I had to do that every 2/3 days, but now it's about every hour !
If you have to buy a modem, buy alcatel modems !

I've been waiting for this product for a long time. I ordered it for Christmas. Finall on St. Patrick's day 2001, I cancelled my order.

This modem gives a blue screen of death from their driver slnt7554.sys. The support person I talked did not care about or offer any solution to this problem. Also, the support email never responded to me.

I recently lost the internal modem of my G4 tower to an untimely lightning strike. Seeing as the machine was off warranty I could have brought it in for [an expensive] bench charge or simply bought an external. I chose the latter.

Well, when it arrived, I was aghast to see that it was ancient! It is -- get this -- SERIAL. The last time an Apple shipped with a serial port, Bill Clinton was savoring his re-election victory.

Now I need to buy an adaptor so I can actually use this beige hunk o-junk. If it cost me [more money] with shipping & taxes? No way.

1 month after I ordered it, they finnaly told me they couldn't ship if to my APO address. After this, I cancled the order and am buying it from somewhere else.

Xircom modems seem to be reliable but have poor modem performance. It's not unusual for the modem side of a Xircom Combo to refuse to connect above 28.8kbs, even after all updated drivers and Firmware have been installed. I would avoid Xircoms if you are buying it for dial-up use, especially if you want to use it for dial-up use while traveling. There are better products available for less money.

I purchased this modem after a lengthy serach for a modem
that can work with Windows and Linux (in this case: SuSe).
However, I was very dissatisfied with the performance
(or no performance at all!). At first, I tried to setup
and configure using the exact steps in the user manual.
It did not work. Then I allowed Linux to probe it. Linux
did not recognize it as well. I recommend cautious buying
this product...
