    Rock Solid!
I use RCN broadband and this modem is rock solid. It has never locked up on me, and does not require frequent reboots. About once a month or so I'll cycle the power on it just because my cable provider says to do so. But I have absolutely no complaints about the modem itself. I've had it for 2 years, and never had any troubles with it.

The highest speed I've gotten from my connection using this modem is 755kb/5500kb

Best WiFi Access Point in Range, Cost & Performance
After testing numerous Wireless Access Point products, my team decided that this SMC model out performed the completion. This product by far has been the best in RF (Radio Frequency) propagation and penetration in large corporate environments (which means that it will satisfy all your Home Office needs as well. The other products we researched worked marginally or required RF Boosters to cover the area that this product did.

We are recommending it exclusively to our other colleagues in the consulting business.

        An Excellent Company- Excellent Module
Viking has had a very good reputation. This will also probably be very good. Also 64 mbs is very good for old laptop users who want a revenge in their laptop. Uses very little system resources and is also very fast. Very good for those also who want a reliable machine in finding what they did. It will also take a long time to run out of the 64 mbs unless you have a very big video card. This is also probably good for college people who don't have that much money to spend on memory module replacements. Just check if it's compatible with your computer/laptop so you will be able to see the performance of Viking. Sometimes Viking is bad because sometimes after a while they start to slowly break down which is not good. But if you are an avid gamer, just get larger memory modules so you can get the maximum performance of the video card and also the maximum performance or the game. Good luck!

very pleased with hawking WR254 wireless router
i purchased WR254 this week, it is my first wireless router ever. let me fully describe you my network situation. the wireless network is actually being built between 3 different appartments approx. situated in 25m circle. the DSL connection is in one appartment, while i have to install the WR254 in my neighbours (the second appartment) and my laptop is located in 3rd appartment. the computers in appartments 1 and 2 are to be wired networked while i was planning to connect my compaq laptop wirelessly. the procedure for connection computers in appartments 1 and 2 was fairly easy. but it took me almost 3 hours to connect my laptop with WR254. finally i have got the wireless signals from my neighbours. and now it is going very well, the pages upload and download on my laptop without any problem. and i think at the typing of this review i am approximately 100 feet apart from the router. and i have good signal strength. whatelse you need, i can take my laptop almost everywhere in me one bedroom appartment. please note that the DSL modem is in appartment 1 , router is in appartment 2 and i live in appartment 3. and we are all enjoying the sharing of internet connection. if you have any question you can write me an email at saqib3d@yahoo.com. i will try to be of some help. thanks

The 'original' REALPORT, type 2 pc card
My group at Xircom, [ while it existed - before Intel acquired xirc], tested and mfg these at our factory in Malaysia. It is a 'bullet-proof' worldwide modem , and if you get the 32bit Cardbus version, will run at 100 Mb on LAN.

              Excellent Modem
I got tired of buying the no-name modems you get with a PC because I invariably had problems with them. If you access the internet by modem, you don't want to skimp on this component of your computer system. All the Zoom modems are good (I've installed and used the external and PCI versions of this modem as well.) They make reliable connections, come with very good software and features. I've had no problems installing and using them. The instructions are clear. This particular model is and ISA card for older computers. It will work well with Linux as well as Windows.

              Rock-solid connection
I recently purchased the Motorola Surfboard 5100 to replace my RCA DCM226. The problem with the RCA was that it constantly disconnected me, and it had slow downloads and uploads. Plus the reboots took forever. I finally got fed up, and purchased the motorola 5100. I've had it for a couple months now, and so far I have had a flawless, fast connection. I even like the styling of the modem. It fits in well in almost any work enviroment. The installation was as simple as it could be. To switch the modems, you simpily plug the new one in, install the software, and call your cable company (5 minute phone call) and your online in less than 20 minutes!! Final review - this is a GREAT modem at a great price. If your looking for a fast, solid, reliable connection the motorola 5100 is the way to go.

Surfing the web with the 5100
I got this cable modem for my folks a short while ago rather than have them continue to pay a monthly rental fee to Comcast. I chose the Motorola 5100 based on the reputation of Motorola, the price (although it wasn't as good as this Amazon price), and the technology.

Installation was easy with a quick start guide as well as a full manual (on cd). For the price, you can't beat it. It has the latest technology- DOCSIS 2.0 but is backward compatible with the older standards DOCSIS 1.0 and 1.1 used by mostly all cable internet providers. (Please be sure to check with your cable internet provider first before buying any modem to make sure they support the DOCSIS standard and modem you are considering buying.)

The Motorola has both USB and Ethernet connections so you can directly hook up 2 computers without having to buy extra networking hardware. Another nice feature is the STANDBY button at the top which you can use to temporarily cut off the internet. Also, it is relatively compact (roughly 6"H x 2"W x 6"D), so it won't take over your valuable desk space.

Performance-wise, I can't say I noticed much of a difference from their old modem but cable bandwith can be variable depending on the number of users in the neighborhood. At least it wasn't any slower.

Based on all this, I figured why buy a modem with older technology for more $$ that probably can't be upgraded when you can have the latest and greatest now for cheaper- a rare combination.

              Works Like a Charm!
I've been using this modem for a little over a year now, and I've never ran into any problems whatsoever. I used to pay money to rent a Toshiba cable modem from Cox, and buying this modem not only saved me a lot of cash but enabled me to enjoy a problem-free net surfing experience with high speed downloads/uploads. A must-buy if you prefer not to rent a cable modem.

              Hassle Free
I was renting the Motorola SB3100 and replaced it with this model. Installation was as simple as calling the cable company with the new MAC address, plugging in the cables, and turning on the computer.

Now that I will not be paying a monthly modem rental, this modem will pay for itself in just a few months.

This modem also has a couple features that the SB3100 did not. It is upgradeable to DOCSIS 1.1 and it has a standby button that allows you to cut your computer from the internet without powering down.

              Rock Solid Little Beauty
When our original cable modem died, Time Warner (our cable/broadband provider) replaced it with the SB4200. Unlike others, we never had to pay a monthly rental fee on our cable modem, but getting the SB4200 was definitely a step up from the unit we had before. In fact, it was the unit we were considering purchasing when we thought all the cable company would do is replace our existing unit with an identical make/model.

All of our lost connection problems and modem retraining failures were ended when the tech activated our SB4200. It went in without a hitch, and our network's a fairly complex (for a suburban home) setup with 2 wired PC desktops, 1 wireless PC desktop, 1 WAP (Wireless Access Point), 1 wireless laptop (a Mac G4 Powerbook with an Airport card) and a Linksys 4 port wired router.

I especially like the modem's standby button, although we neglect to activate it routinely so we miss out on any additional network security it might provide.

              Trustworthy modem
I bought this modem over a year ago as an alternative to giving the cable company even more of my money via renting on of theirs. Ever since I plugged it in and got it activated it has given me zero problems. The only time it hasn't worked, it was because the internet itself was down.
I like the button on the modem that disconnects you from the internet. It takes maybe a second to connect/disconnect you and protect your computer from any unsavory types who are lurking out there.
I bought a new pc a few months ago and plugged in the modem and it was ready to go right then.
If you're forgoing the $5/mo. rental from your ISP, this baby pays for itself in about 18 months ... or less. And if you move, you can keep the thing, you don't have to give it back to the cursed cable co.
