I've spent much time researching to buy a new monitor. At first, I went with 19 CRT from Envision. It was a mistake. The image was blurry and the screen does not match the edge of the screen despite of whatever I did. So I returned it and got SONY HS53 for over 440 dollars. But then I saw many reviews of dead pixels in Sony LCD monitors so I just returned it without even opening it.

Then I spent a few weeks trying to find the best monitor for my budget (less than 450 for 17 inch) and decided on either NEC ASLCD17v or LCD1760v. I also considered LCD1765 which was about 470 after a rebate and coupons. Among those 17v was the cheapest so I went with it. The only difference btw 17v and 1760v was luminance. 17v is 250 whereas 1760v is 260 which I think is a minor difference. Everything else was the same; contrast, response time.

I was worried that I wouldn't like it but when I connected it and saw the image, I was very satisfied. Text is very clear after a minor adjustment. The brightness is very good. And despite of my worries, thin bazel looked better than 1765 or Sony monitors with about an inch casing.

Frankly I do not have much experience with LCD monitors but I would recommend this to anyone who's looking for 17 inch lcd's. Its price is among the cheapest (~420) and its response time is impressive. If you have money, go with Dell (better one) or Apple but if your spending limit is near 400, this is a good monitor.

I bought this monitor in an emergency situation, my old monitor had died. After going to the store and looking at all the flat panel video displays, I thought this one had great quality. Images on the screen are crisp and clear and the color is true. This is truly a plug and play monitor which self adjusts on install. You shouldn't have to tweak anything, even though there are controls to do so. This monitor can be taken off the stand and mounted on the wall, but the big plus of the stand is that it has a swivel so that you can adjust to any viewing angle without having to move the stand. All the others I've seen, if you wanted to angle the display, you had to move the stand. It also tilts forward and back, so you can choose your optimum viewing angle. The image on the screen stays clear, even if you are looking at it other than head on.

My husband and I are VERY pleased with this Mitsubishi LCD1512. I did a LOT of research on these LCD monitors, and this one had the best contrast ratio (400:1) for the lowest price. (watch out for a ratio LOWER than 400:1--they are cheaper because the picture is horrible quality). We were very pleasantly suprised when it arrived--it has a beautiful picture and modern design and takes up so little space. It's VERY easy to use...just plug it in to the computer, and it's ready--no confusing set-up. Make sure to get a good 1-3 year warranty because all LCD monitors are prone to "dead pixels". Also, it does not come with speakers.

The NEC LCD1700M 17" Flat Panel Monitor is a high-quality analog TFT active-matrix LCD that elegantly displays images while avoiding being the heavy cumbersome object that most monitors are today. It keeps the level of quality that great 17" monitors do have, yet has the felxibility to be moved around at a moment's notice (only 16 pounds!). Setup & Installation is a quick and easy take-out-of-the-box-and-plug-it-in appliance. The monitor controls also offer the standard options that most monitors allow you to fiddle with, with some pluses. This monitor works with Macs and PC's. It's the best priced 17" flat panel on the market today, made by a quality vendor. Highly recommend.

I can't say anything bad about this product. I've had it for about four years with perfect performance continuously. Even when a severe electrical storm fried the tv, phone answering machine and computer this product survived without a hitch. Haven't read any other reviews yet, but I hope everyone has been as pleased as I am.

The display is crisp and bright. Graphics look great via the VGA or the DVI input from my 9600XT video card.

Amazing quality for an 18" LCD monitor. As expected from long time monitor manufacturer NEC-Mitsubishi. I used a Samsung 17" LCD before and there was flickering and unstable video mode and requires driver CD. This one is truly plug-and-play. No driver, no tuning, just work. Crispy, high contrast, even have DVI for 2nd PC for switching on the fly. Highly recommended.

Great color depth and amazing graphics for the price. Highly recommended for all-purpose use.

Great monitor! The flat screen seems to reduce glare and makes the monitor a pleasure to view. The size eliminates the need for a second monitor. I watch TV on one corner as I view my documents on the other side of the screen.

I was previously using a 21" CRT at my home office. Although it had plenty of real estate, the footprint was about 1.5' x 2'. Frankly, I'm surprised that the desk could support the weight! The NEC was a welcome replacement. It arrived while I was at work one day. My wife (who has little computer hardware experience) unpacked and installed it in only a few minutes. The picture is clear and the actual viewable size is more like a 17" CRT than a 15". We are very happy with the quality of this monitor as well as the regained desk space.
