Simply the BEST value-for-money monitor available
I am taking the time to write this review because I am so impressed with this product. I wanted a flat screen because of both the space saving, and the appearance, but did not want to invest a lot of money in an extra monitor. What I never expected was the image quality. The colours are clear, clean, and vibrant.

I spend a lot of time doing detailed design work, work on photos and video, (and have worked with several high-end monitors) yet am really pleased with the image quality. And at the Amazon price, I really feel I have gotten a bargain.

I have to say that I think Samsung has come up with another winner. Word seems to be getting out as well, since I have started noticing this particular monitor in a lot of places -- particularly some design-conscious places of business.

Great !!
I was looking for a space saver monitor and I think the Samsung 570V is the best buy. I ve seen this priced at $... and was surprised to see this monitor so low in price. I highly recommend. Clear ~ sharp . . . Best buy in LCD monitors.

Excellent quality, great price
I picked this up on the recommendation of a friend, and I'm not disappointed. Considering you can get this monitor ... after rebates and coupons if you know where to look, it's a great deal. Keep in mind that a 15" LCD has almost as much viewable area as a 17" CRT monitor, and the price doesn't even seem that steep. I've reclaimed some valuable desk space, and my desk hutch doesn't heat up any more like it used to because of the heat generated by my previous CRT. Very bright, very clear, and works great with standard video cards/cables (digital not necessary). Samsung has come a long way in electronics, IMO. I really notice the difference when I use someone else's CRT now.

An Excellent 15" LCD Flat Panel Monitor
After my old 15" CRT monitor went dead, and after reading all the reviews from this website, I was convinced to go out and get a LCD flat panel monitor. I did some serious research to find out which monitor was better between this one and the Envision 15" LCD monitor. So I went out and got the NEC MultiSync LCD 1530v. I was very impressed on how quick and easy it was to set it up. The "auto adjust" feature tuned in my monitor correctly the first time. My wife and I have played many video games with this monitor without any problems! When playing a DVD, the picture is crisp and clear with no signs of distortion. The colors on this monitor are absolutely amazing! My wife who uses the computer as much as I do also gives this monitor 5 stars for the reason that it does not hurt her eyes. For those of you whose eyes have low tolerance to glare, you don't have to worry about that. The monitor works best at a resolution of 1024x768. My system is an AMD K6-2 550MHz processor, Windows XP operating system, and ATI Radeon 7200 video card. I've had this monitor for 3 months now. I must say that it was the BEST purchase I've made!

If you're looking for an LCD flat panel monitor and can't afford to spend much money, then this monitor is for you. The viewing size of this monitor is 15.1", the same size of a 17" CRT monitor. With all the features and advantages that comes with this monitor, it's worth the spending. So go out and get one while they're hot! I give this LCD monitor my highest recommendations!

Happy Camper
The NEC 1530V is an absolute winner. Price, image quality, footprint, ease-of-use, you name it. . . I use a Radeon 64MB DDR video card which allows me to set the monitor at the recommended resolution: 1024 x 768. Any lower resolution makes the image look pretty ugly and the monitor shows an annoying warning sign which keeps popping up saying you're not using the optimal resolution. The auto adjust function is excellent!!! Just press one button and the image fits automatically and perfectly within the screen. The on-screen menu is very intuitive and easy to use (I still haven't even touched the instructions manual).

One drawback: you can't regulate the monitor's height or swivel it. All you can do is regulate the angle or remove the arm and hang it on the wall.

Nevertheless, it's the best purchase I've done.

At this price, don't bother looking into other brands . . . Not worth the effort. You can't go wrong with this one.

Best monitor I've ever owned.
I endlessly researched LCD computer monitors before I purchased this and the research paid off... big time. My friends and family are amazed at the sleakness (I ordered the black version) and the picture quality of this monitor. Additionally, believe it or not, this monitor appreciated from the time I purchased it on AMZN, imagine that! It's expecially great in a dorm/apartment setting.

Excellent
When I go to the computer store to look at LCD monitors, they all seem to fall into one of two categories - those that look good and those that look great. This one is definitely one of the latter. I chose it mainly because of the acrylic covering that protects the screen. In our house, it is impossible to prevent small fingers from touching the screen. I was also waiting for a monitor that could display video and action games without too much ghosting. This NEC unit did not disappoint. Don't be put off by the location of the hard-to see control buttons (on the side of the bezel). A little fooling around orients you to NEC's scheme, and once it's set, you can forget it.

Criticisms:
1. The stand folds for travel, but is really, really stiff. You can't raise the unit more than a couple of inches off the desk.
2. No digital interface. Only of concern because I intend to keep this monitor for many years, and who knows for how long new video cards will continue to support analog? It doesn't matter for now - the picture is rock-solid.
3. The warranty is only for a year. I expect one-year warranties from second tier vendors, but not from NEC. This thing is built like a tank.
4. I am getting a bit tired of silver and black color schemes, especially on bezels. Sony used to make a glossy black unit with an acrylic screen. A real stunner.

Conclusion: For the price, you can't beat this value.

I'll never use a CRT again after buying this LCD monitor
This was not my first choice in computer monitors. I originally bought a Viewsonic CRT monitor because I wanted true colors for my photography. LCD's have always scared me off, as people say they have unreliable color. After two defective CRT monitors, I thought it was time to embrace the new technology.

I did a side-by-side comparison of all the popular LCD monitors. Two brands really stand out: Sony and NEC. I chose this NEC because of bright backlighting, engineered specifically for photo editing. And, it really is bright. Unlike a CRT, it doesn't buzz, flicker, or wobble. It's rock steady. The colors are vibrant and make photographs look three dimensional.

True to the disadvantages of CRT's, viewing from angle makes the colors look a little warm. Viewing from an elevated angle makes part of the screen look a little darker. As the saying goes, "Just don't do that." If you tweak your colors and keep your monitor pointed straight-on, this beauty will out-perform any CRT I've used. The stand is fully adjustable and, unlike a CRT, you don't need a fork lift to adjust the viewing angle.

The stand was a bit stiff and it took me a little courage to snap it into place. Odd for a high performance monitor, this one is analog rather than digital. My video card can drive both. Again, I was not disappointed. Although there are the usual tweaks, size adjustments, offset adjustments, etc - there is button on the side which does all the tweaks for you. This is wonderful. What once took me fifteen minutes for each video mode now take a few seconds.. click / done. Wow.

The monitor is so compact and light, that I I did have one minor difficulty when I picked it up at the store. They couldn't find it! I guess they weren't expecting this compact 13lb box with its own carrying handle. I was impressed again. Not a dead pixel to be found, rock solid, bright BRIGHT colors, razor sharp images and text, and zero flicker at 60hz. I'll never go back to CRT's again.

Is It High Quality CRT??!!
The colors are so realistic and bright that I can't help think that it's a CRT. The difference is that with these I can fit two in the same space it takes to have one CRT. Whether turned on or off it always looks like a beautiful picture frame. But when playing a movie or game is when it really shines. I dare you to compare side by side with more expensive LCDs and see for yourself. You will be amazed.

A Great Value
This monitor was my first excursion into the LCD market, and I am not disappointed. The image quality, sharpness, and brightness rival any CRT and the contrast is decent. Compared with the laptop monitors I've used, this Samsung is somewhat harsher on the eyes as it is more crisp. Of course, if you're using Windows XP, you'll want to use its ClearType font smoothing. In terms of latency, I can see no difference between this screen and a CRT. The Auto Adjust button is great for quickly setting up the screen's geometry. While the footpring is small, the base is slightlly unstable. Also, my monitor has a dead pixel in the middle. However, what matters most is image quality, and you will be exceedingly pleased with this LCD.

simply flawless
If you're looking for the best no-frills 15" LCD, the Samsung 151S is probably it. I checked out a huge computer mall in Taipei (NOVA), and I must have seen at least 10-15 different LCD models, including NEC, Viewsonic, Eizo, and several no-name Asian brands. The 151S stood above the rest with the most vibrant and natural looking picture, and also the most aesthetically pleasing exterior. Once you have the right settings for the "Image Lock", the text is so perfect you'll be wondering why people pay extra for a DVI interface. There is really nothing bad I can say about the 151S, which truly amazes me because I am usually incredibly nitpicky about monitors.

Wow!
I don't have a lot of desk space in my small Brooklyn apartment, so I knew I had to get an LCD monitor for the computer I was building. I didn't have the money to splurge on something top of the line, so I decided to go with this bargain model. Boy it would have been a mistake to go with something more expensive! This monitor will not disappoint, whether you want it for games or just general computing. This monitor has vivid colors, great contrast, and very bright, even backlighting across the screen entire screen. No dead pixels either. I'd recommend it to anyone.

A Classic
I can't recall how long I've owned my MDR-V6 phones, but it's easily been ten years. The sound is excellent, virtually uncolored, and unlike other top of the line headphones like Sennheiser's (which are VERY nice and well over $150.00) these sound as good used with a portable CD player as with a well powered home system.

It was time to replace them since the cord is finally shorting too much to ignore any longer and my ears are always covered with black stuff and foam from the disintergrating earcups. I asked around and a colleague who is the audio technician on a popular TV show told me without hesitation, these are the ones to buy. It's what he uses on the set and at home. I'm glad Sony still makes 'em. Maybe I should buy another pair for ten years down the road...

My favorite headphones
The Sony MDR-V6s were the first really good headphones I owned. After about 15 years of use, the foam padding was a bit run down. After doing the exhaustive search for the best headphones, I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD580s (I also own Etymotic ER-4Ps). Comparing the HD580 to my MDR-V6s, I would say that the MDR-V6s are better for two reasons. 1. The MDR-V6s are more comfortable to wear for long periods of time, and 2. The MDR-V6s have a telephone-like cord, which is easier to deal with than the straight HD580 cord. The sound quality was very good on both headphones, and about equal. I ended up buying new foam pads for my 15-year-old MDR-V6s, which made them feel like brand new headphones. I also bought a second pair of MDR-V6s, and shelved the HD580s for now.

Do not buy the MDR-600s by mistake. I have never used them, but I have read numerous reviews that state that the MDR-600s are inferior to the MDR-V6s. You can still buy the MDR-V6s, but they are harder to find. I bought mine at millionbuy because Amazon did not have them in stock. For some reason, the MDR-V6 product name at Amazon magically changed to MDR-600, even though it is an entirely different product. I am not sure why this happened.

The audioreview Web site has a great collection of headphone reviews.

Fidelity, efficiency, durability, affordability
I've owned these headphones for over 10 years and I consider them to be one of the best electronics purchases I've ever made. If your experience with headphones has been limited to whatever was packaged with your portable player, you'll be amazed at how these open up the experience of listening to music.

You can get a more detailed sound out of headphones, but these are remarkably good for the price. Considering the prevalence of these headphones in studio environments, they've become somewhat of a standard. You could get better, but you'd have to spend considerably more money.

These headphones also shine in their efficiency. Essentially a headphone's efficiency relates to how much volume of sound is produced by a given amount of input. This is probably one of the most important specs to concern yourself with in headphones. Many portable audio devices have relatively low-powered outputs that are not able to adequately drive larger headphones. Most can drive these Sonys very well.

Some have complained about these headphones being prone to falling apart. I disagree. While mine have taken a beating, I've also taken them all over the place on my travels and used them heavily for years. From salty and humid tropical beaches to far too many airplane flights, these headphones have accompanied me. If you've worn out these headphones it's probably due to the fact that you've subjected these headphones to far more use than any previous headphone.

Lastly, these headphones are a bargain price. You can't easily find headphones this good under $100.

If you use personal audio devices or enjoy a lot of media while at the computer, do yourself a favor and order these headphones. They will open the detail of the music to you in a way that will pleasantly surprise you. To get anywhere near this quality of sound from desktop loudspeakers would require an investment many times the price of these headphones.

Side-By-Side Comparison
Let's face it, LCD monitors are unbelievably crisp in image quality and detail, but they always lacked in viewing angle and most had motion blur or hesitation when playing fast action games (the new graphics cards have really helped). Well that's not true any more! Before buying a monitor here on Amazon, I recommend you view them in a side-by-side comparison at one of the local retail stores. That is exactly what I did. I was fortunate to have all of the name brands represented; NEC, Samsung, Sony, Viewsonic, Compaq, HP, IBM, Philips, etc.; so doing a side-by-side comparison was easy. I even made sure they were running the same graphics card by recabling my final choices on similar PC's running the same graphics card and displaying the same moving and still images. I was looking for a 17" or 18" monitor (this one is 17.4" viewable and thus it's name of X-174). One monitor stuck out from all the rest with it's crisp color, excellent image reproduction, and unbelievable viewing angles, Neovo. All of this and the monitor was running in analog mode, not digital! One of my primary disappointments with LCD monitors is the viewing angle. Every LCD monitor that I viewed showed dark areas above or below dead center, even when viewed at the optimum angle of straight ahead. The Neovo monitor was the only one that I viewed that performed like a CRT monitor when viewed at less than optimum angles. Yes, their claim of 160 degrees is true! This is a very impressive monitor with an excellent build quality (a three year warranty) from a new subsidary company of AIC (I researced them on the Internet). Setup was a breeze; I replaced the default Windows XP Monitor driver with the one supplied by Neovo (it still worked with the default Windows XP driver, but I wanted to use Neovo's), pressed "Auto Detect" on the monitor, and that was it! Viewing StarWars Episode I showed such vivid colors and detail that my TV can't display and fast movement was not a problem (Pod Race). Now if only I can get a TV with this much quality at a decent price. I highly recommend this Monitor, but don't take my word for it...go out and view it for yourself.

Style & Fuctionality
After looking at a number of computer flat screen monitors as well as reading what seemed like hundreds of reviews, I can across the AG Neovo X-174. The images look as good as the images on my old 20" Trinitron. I consider myself as a pretty good digital photographer, so image quality is extremely important to me and the X-174 does not disappoint. The colors in photos are crisp and true and the text quality sharp & clear. Please note that the AUTO function is disabled if you use the Digital DVI-D input so make sure you use the 1280x1024 at 60 hz resolution for your best results.
So with image quality is as good as my old monitor, why spend a great deal of money on this technology? It's all about space recovered. I have gained about 200 square inches of desk space back so my life is less cluttered and I won't go blind with the monitor 3" from my face.
One last comment.... The X-174 is one cool looking monitor. It even looks good with nothing on the screen.

Amazing multi-use monitor
Based on recently published flat panel monitor reviews, I decided to try out the highly rated AG Neovo X174. I also chose to upgrade my older G4 Mac with a DVI (digital) video card to fully appreciate the monitor's capabilities. I'm delighted with the arrangement so far. The image quality is nothing less than superb. Since the monitor had an unused analog (RGB) input port, I added a View Sonic VB50 HRTV tuner and now have a really cool flat panel TV on my desk as well.

I looked at a wall of LCD monitors at the local super-store and none except perhaps the Apple 17" Studio Display even came close to the image quality of the Neovo. It costs a little more than most, but I'm satisfied that the quality and features are worth it. Plus the screen surface is non-glare glass that's easy to keep clean!

NEC 1760V, 17" LCD Monitor, Black
My first experience with an LCD monitor. Very sleek design, light and compact. The display colors are bright and text resolution is very good. The buttons are on the front; easy to reach but hard to read. No dead pixels that I could tell. Seems to work well with Medal of Honor. Downside: text will blurr while scrolling vertically (such as internet search results). Also, the white background seemed to have a slight pinkish hue but to be fair, I didn't try using the color adjustments. All in all, an excellent monitor at a very reasonable price.

Zero dead pixels and no ghosting!
I've been sitting on the LCD fence for desktop use. Even though I'm not a big gamer, I dislike the ghosting on slow LCD's while scrolling web pages, etc. Also, I learned about native LCD resolution the hard way after purchasing a close-out Thinkpad T-series direct from IBM which did not indicate SVGA+ with native resolution of 1400x1150 on a 14" screen (talk about your small fonts!!).

I've adjusted, though, and when my desktop CRT started acting up I decided I could live with 1280 x 1024 on a 17" for desktop use. I use the Opera web browser which provides for easy "scaling" up of web pages. This can be the biggest surprise for LCD newbies; LCD's only look sharp in their native resolution, you can't really scale up/down like a CRT (and stay sharp).

My priorities for a desktop LCD monitor, in order, were:

o) sharp text display
o) limited/no ghosting (16ms)
o) some reasonable probablility of no dead pixels
o) high contrast
o) thin case bezel

I have not been disappointed in any regard with the 1760; no dead pixels at all that I can see on this unit. Of course, this is somewhat the luck of the draw, but I understand that NEC is fairly stringent with this. The monitor is also very "bright". I am running the brightness around 75% which is plenty for me.

This LCD is not a "wide view", but that has not been a big issue for me; the base does tilt/swivel. If you're not familiar with this aspect of LCD's search the net; LCD's that have around 170 degree viewing angle don't "dim" as you move your viewing angle off-axis. Dell Ultra-Sharp is an example (most of which are made by Samsung). I believe NEC offers several wide-view LCD's as well as do other vendors.

I was somewhat wary of the included LiquidView software, but it actually works pretty well in limited use - increases desktop icons to a "comfortable" size. For those that aren't used to the 1280x1024 native resolution for desktop icons and such it is an added bonus ...

The NEC 1760 hits the size/performance/cost LCD sweet spot quite nicely, imo, and I have been very satisfied so far. I have no doubt LCD prices will continue to drop, but you have to take the plunge some time.

Awesome LCD Monitor!
Was a bit concerned about ordering an LCD monitor sight unseen but all those fears were put aside once I unpacked it, made the connections and turned it on for the first time! My first impression? "WOW!" I'm primarily a laptop user and my most recent is a Compaq Presario 3045US that I purchased for 2 reasons: first, the price was right for the computing power (less than $1000) and secondly, the 16" screen was awesome for watching DVDs, playing games and basically replacing my desktop at work. Why do I mention this? Simply because I purchased a new game recently ("City of Heroes") and it isn't capable of running on my laptop. I knew the day would come when I'd find a game that didn't run on the integrated graphics chip but I didn't think that day would come so soon, and so my hand was forced...I'd need to build a desktop capable of playing the new game and with that, I'd need a new monitor. Was a bit skeptical of going with an LCD for a graphics intensive game because, having owned many laptops, I know that pixels tend to blur during action sequences. Went around to many stores comparing monitors before realizing that under their flourescent lights, all the LCD monitors looked just about the same. So I spent many hours a day, for about a week, reading reviews online and comparing numbers before deciding on the NEC 1760V and I'm glad I did! Refresh rates are quick with minimal blurring, the colors are vibrant and pictures look sharp in the native resolution. OSD buttons are difficult to make out but once the settings are set, there's really no need to go back to them. Other's complain about NEC's pop-up display warning about running games in non-native resolution but I hit "exit" button once (on the display) and the warning disappears without coming back. Biggest fear was dead pixels BUT I figured there's no difference between ordering online or picking the monitor up in a store. If you're going to get a dead pixel, you'll get a dead pixel regardless of mail order or in store pick up...though my monitor was 100% beautiful with NO dead pixels on arrival! And compared to the 16" screen on my laptop? This NEC simply blows it away!! My only complaint is the brightness level of this LCD monitor...it really *is* bright. Turned it down to about 30% and upped the contrast a bit though and all is good. While not the highest contrast ratio of the pack, this monitors has blacks that appear black and vibrant colors that appear true to life! Overall, an extremely worthwhile purchase!!

EN-9110
Personally I think this monitor is horrible. It seemed great at first but then I began to notice the horrible ghosting that the monitor produced. While the monitor does have vinrant colors I wish Envision could have added a backlight for this, the montior is way too bright.

awesome display
I bought the display seven days ago and after returning the first LCD due to a cluster of bad pixels in middle of the screen [really annoying] -- the second monitor only has _one_ bad pixel in the upper left. Since I've been an LCD owner for over five years [laptops, et al] I'm used to seeing a bad pixel on a device here and there. Something to keep in mind with these LCDs is that the big blockly pixels of your laptop LCD are no more -- these pixel are practically dwarfed by a pinhead.

Anyway, I ran the monitor on an Analog connection for a day -- terrible refresh on some things, but the autosync button helped sharping things up during resolution changes.

With the digital display connection I'm currently running the monitor has not had to be adjusted once. The Envision EN9110 looks great, it makes my nice 19" Sun Microsystems monitor [i run a dual headed system] look dank and poorly contrasted.

The 600:1 contrast ratio is what makes this monitor a compeditor.

I would heavily recommend this brand to anybody as a direct compeditor to ViewSonic's 19" LCD line.

I would give this product a 5 star rating if the monitor did not have pixel problems when first purchased. I know LCDs can be made to be more reliable -- I have a Thinkpad that after 3+ years still does not have a bad pixel.

this is a great product
First, my set up as yours may vary ... I am using a IBM thinkpad with DVA output, so keep that in mind - I don't know what analog output would look like or what your video card would look like.

The monitor has zero dead pixals, screen refresh is really fast, colors are bright and clear, text is crisp. Set up was just turning it on.

I don't have te best vision but My 46 year old eyes can read 1280x1024 on the Envision just fine.

There may be better monitors for gaming or whatever, but at this price I give the Envision 5 stars for the budget buyer that wants great quality.

Syntax Olevia 27¿
Had this monitor for 3 months now. Used almost exclusively as a computer monitor and xbox monitor. Great for xbox using progressive component. For the most part very good for computer using vga and 1280x720 with ATI Radeon Video. Ran into huge problem when I upgraded my video card to Nvidia 6600gt. Although the card says it supports 1280x720 the picture looks like it is running at a non-native resolution. (very blurry similar to running at a resolution other then 1280x720). As far as the tv side, the picture quality is horrible using the standard catv inputs on the back. I have not tried hooking this up to a hdtv decoder or satalite but would assume those would look very nice given the quality of the xbox signal. Overall I like the monitor and for under $1000 it is probably one of the best buys out there for a 27 inch monitor/tv.

What a great LCD HDTV for the Price!!!
This is an awesome TV, period. As the reviewer before me now knows, this TV does have CATV cable hookup. It is located behind and lower on the TV. It functions great as a monitor in 1280 x 720. The xBox also looks great in widescreen mode. The TVs menu system allows you to set just about everything for each type of input, and then go back to default settings any time. The 750:1 contrast ratio looks as good as the Sharp Aquos. Just unbelievable!!!

Best Bang for the Buck
Actually got this unit somewhere else for a little less. You still cant beat the price if you compare it to comparable 30" models with 1280 x 768 lines. The other models are selling for around $2000 and higher.<br /> <br /> It's so sharp that I can use it as a computer monitor. Which I did for 2 weeks. Text was very clear (using DVI cable, it was slightly blurry with the vga cable) and the graphics were amazing. Can you believe the screen was TOO big, especially when I sit 2 feet away. So for now, it's a bedroom TV.<br /> <br /> Final note: U will see and appreciate the exceptional resolution on this TV/monitor if you use high definition TV input or DVI input from a computer. I say this because some retailers are showing normal Direct TV or cable stations on this TV. That's like driving 55 mph all the time in a 500 hp Dodge Viper. It can do 200 mph if you give it the right input.<br /> <br /> So happy with my 30 Syntax, I'm looking for another LCD or Plasma. I suggest a minimum of 1024 lines or higher. Forget about Enhanced TV or 852 lines. It's cheaper but go for higher lines if you plan to use HDTV.<br /> <br /> Basic Guide:<br /> Lines- higher the better<br /> Brightness- higher the better<br /> Contrast- higher the better<br /> Response- lower the better<br /> <br /> PS. Syntax got very good reviews from various indepedent sources. Search Syntax Group via Yahoo and see the reviews for yourself.

Excellent flat-screen TV
Having read a number of glowing reviews, I was not disappointed by my new Sony Wega - this TV is awesome. I compared a number of 27" flat screen TVs from Toshiba, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, & Sony. Of the five, I found the Sony to have the clearest and most vibrant picture. Also, only the Sony and the Samsung have the 16:9 picture modes to display widescreen films with the highest resolution. Digital cable (thru composite video input) looks significantly sharper and more brighter than my old TV and DVDs w/ component video input look stellar. I also have PS2 and games look awesome on the Wega.

Entertainment bliss
I was lucky enough to have a roommate who bought this TV at the start of the academic year. It's a great TV, definitely worth the price, with really no flaws. Now that my roommate has moved out, I'm going to buy one for myself and would recommend this model to anyone looking for quality and value. Here are five reasons to get the 27" Wega:

1. Superb picture quality. I have a hard time imagining how HDTV could be any better... the images are vivid, crisp, bright, and ultra-realistic. Go to Best Buy and it will take you about two minutes to tell that this Sony model has the best picture of all the 27" TVs (a couple others are about as good, but I can't speak for their other attributes). Whether it's a cable feed or DVD, watching this TV for hours at a time is a pleasure. Monday Night Football games are awesome on this TV.

2. The flat-screen. It's 50% style and 50% substance. They just look cooler, though whether the image is better depends on the lighting conditions. If you turn off all the lights and watch from the front, a regular TV looks the same. But the flat-screen significantly reduces glare and reflections from windows and ceiling lights, and provides a better image from the side. I am living away from my regular apartment this summer and rented a normal 27" TV, and can definitely tell the difference. It's worth the extra [money].

3. Sound. I felt no need to upgrade the speakers on this TV, despite giving it a heavy workload of DVDs, video games with surround sound, and NFL games. If you have mondo speakers lying around, then good for you, but if you don't want to lay down a few hundred dollars on speakers, then you'll do very well with the 27" Wega.

4. The size. 27" is a medium-sized TV, but it somehow looks larger. It's definitely big enough to get sucked into movies and whatever you're watching. I tend to think a bigger screen would stretch the image quality of a cable signal and you'd see some fuzziness.

5. Sony quality and reliability. It's never had a problem and functioned perfectly for a year. Having the classic SONY logo on your TV stand just makes you feel like you made a quality purchase. Sony isn't great at all things, but they make damn good TVs.

All-in-all, it's a can't-miss purchase. Awesome picture quality for years to come with great sound and overall quality. If you have [money] to spend on a TV, this is the best the market has to offer.

4.5 stars
I've had this television for probably about a year. It is a fantastic set. I am no videophile but I can tell you that it has the best picture of any set that I have owned. I'm pretty sure that it also has the best picture that I have seen on just about any television that I have sat down in front of (not including a TV store).

Pros: Great picture. Crisp and clear for television. I have a local cable company providers cable box hooked up into the S-Video input. It looks great.
I have a Sony DVD player hooked up through the component video inputs. The picture is incredible. I must add though, that some DVD's are not looking as good as I would have expected when compared to others. I think that has alot to do with the DVDs in these rare cases though. Star Wars Episod 2 looks insanely good. So do many others. Some, for some reason do not.

16x9 mode. This is also great for wide screen dvds. It increases the resolution in a very noticable way. I must add though that better instructions need to be given regarding the dvd players aspect ratio and what to do to make this feature work correctly. If done wrong, this feature makes the picture squish a little (very noticable). But when you do it correctly, it makes all the difference in the world. A very good option to have. I'm told the resolution gets to be about 33% better. It sure looks it.

Cons: I too have seen some white patches at the top left and rights sides when playing certain dvds. The only time I see them is during the intro to star trek episodes on DVD when all you see is the stars against a dark backround. The white patches are there and are noticable during this brief period. I don't watch hockey like the others and have therefore not seen the pink bars on the side they see during bright white scenes. I have had no issues with bright white scenes. The more colorful the better is the impression that I get with this TV.

One more con and that's all. Although the DVD quality is incredible for most DVDs, there are a few where during dark scenes you see what one person refered to as "hundreds of bugs running all over the place". I guess this is that grainy look that digital sometimes has. I think this comes from bad DVD's. Anyway, I do see this sometimes and am still pleased with this set. It can only be as good as what you put on it.

All in all. I Love this set and would buy it again. I paid about 500 for it and didn't find it too hard to get it in my apt. It is very versitile. It was a little heavy, but I think that that is a good sign that everything that needs to be in there, is.
