Relly good but a defective part of pixel
Great MonitorI just received this monitor yesterday after shopping around and reading many reviews on many different monitors of this type. For the price, you can't beat it. I can't believe the clarity and I have it hooked up via the analog connection for now. I am a host and website developer and work out of an office with a skylight!. My last monitor glared something awfull. This monintor has cut the glare down by at least 90%. I am only sorry I did not buy this monitor a long time ago. I would have saved my eyes from a lot of strain. I think this monitor is the best buy out there.
If you're looking for a 19" LCD, buy this monitor!

NiceThe altimeter, barometer and so forth work well enough. The compass feature also works well, although I usually use a handheld in the field also. The unit is also quite rugged, definitely more rugged than most of the competitors out there. It is also become reasonably priced; you should be able to buy a unit for considerably less than the $399 retail price if you search long enough.
My only complaints: ease of use. I like the fact that the screen is backlight and easy to read, but the buttons are awkwardly labeled and learning the nuances of this machine can take some time. The owner's manual could also be a little better in terms of actually providing you with scenarios on how to use the features correctly. I also wish they would hurry up and produce a USB data cable so that I can use this unit with my Mac; serial ports are getting old.
MNS For Mountain HikingThe MNS is more accurate than advertised when finding positions. When entering a waypoint on the "way out" of a daylong hike, the MNS usually registered "found" within 5 feet of the landmark that I recrossed and recognised on the "way back." The MNS can acquire a signal in light forests near tree line, but not in the heavy forests of Ponderosa Pine at lower altitudes. The heavy smoke generated by the fire burning West of Colorado Springs this Summer killed satellite acquisition.
The altimeter is not accurate to within three feet, even given that the weather is clear and constant. It is of equivalent accuracy to my Sunto Vector altitude watch which is rated accurate to 10 feet; both must have the same internal mechanism. If I start climbing at 10,000 feet and climb to 14,000 feet, both devices will register about 13,900 feet. Interestingly enough, both devices always register low, which allows me to intuit the real altitude. On that closed loop between 10,000 and 14,000 feet, both mechanisms will register within 10 feet of 10,000 feet on return to the starting point.
The MNS mechanism is capable and has kept me from getting lost several times when weather on the return trip became bad.
The Tracklog function has little value because there is a very small limiting number of collected waypoints; a user is bound to miss that bend in the trail or special landmark that he would enter if he were setting waypoints manually.
The MNS is somewhat more accurate than the E-Trex Vista in finding positions. The E-Trex is far more user friendly in entering data. It might take twice as long to manually enter a route using the MNS vis-a-vis the E-trex.
I wear reading glasses. I cannot view the E-trex map or any of the displays without my glasses. I can view all the displays on the MNS without glasses. This was the ultimate reason I kept the MNS and returned the E-Trex Vista.
The Map on the Vista is so tiny as to be of little value. When I hike, I print a map of my route from my mapping software on plasticized paper; this printed map is far more convenient than the tiny map on the Vista.

Alas, definitely not for gamersOn the other hand, this is an excellent monitor for work, incredibly reduces eystrain, I did not find any dead pixels, the design is sleek... but having said all this, still... anyone playing Doom III will be disappointed.

Sony DPP-SV77 Review
Finally an easy way to print digital photos
The Most Outstanding 4x6 Digital Photos Ever!As a comparison, I also have a HP PS 100 and PS 1315, both of which make excellent 4x6 prints. But the Sony -- in terms of image quality -- easily blows them both away!
The printer uses (Sony branded) 4x6 paper (and printer ribbons) which are available from many sources, (such as Amazon.com, Best Buy and Staples). The printer uses heat to transfer the ink from the ribbon to the paper. I don't quite understand how it works. I just know that it makes fantastic photos!
The colors are so dramatic and intense, my friends and family can see the difference -- immediately -- when I show them my pictures.
The built-in fold-up monitor is also very useful in helping me to find just the image I want to print. I've been extremely happy overall with my Sony Digital Photo Printer.
For the best 4x6 photos -- bar none(!) -- this is definitely the printer to get!

Extremely high quality screenSome of the bad things about this monitor :
1) inability to tilt the monitor in any direction
2) Speakers that are very weak they should have just been left out of the monitor.
The outstanding display definitely outshines both negatives about this monitor. I highly recommend it for any serious application-oriented PC user. It will save you money in eye glass prescriptions in the future. ;)
Great monitor, great priceThat said this unit has an excellent warranty, even for the backlight and my unit had no dead pixels which is always a concern with LCD monitors. I highly recommend this monitor to anyone looking to save deskspace and is on a budget.
Programmer/Gamer's perspective

- PC and Mac compatible
- 3-year warranty

nice picture, but broken
Superior MonitorMy initial impressions are that it's an excellent professional monitor with beautiful colors. The only negatives are that the screen fonts could be a little sharper and the two thin horizontal lines in the middle of the monitor. I know this is standard for type of CRT, but I've never seen it on any monitor before . . . it'll take some getting used to.
Finally, the price here at Amazon was very competitive, especially with free shipping. Even with SuperSaver, I got it within two days.
Well Biult Monitor

Sharp and Clear Text, Beautiful Digital PictureDVD movies look superb. Computer games show very slight ghosting but not enough to affect your gameplay.
No sound built in, but that's why I have my existing subwoofer and speakers for.
The casing has a lazy susan at the bottom so you can spin it around, and you can tilt it to suit your height.
Buy it, you won't regret it.
Good Friend
Bought three for my officemonitor I've ever purchased.

- 18-inch viewable screen for your PC
- 0.25-millimeter dot pitch
- 1600 x 1200 maximum resolution at 75 Hz
- Pure Flat CRT displays with enhanced clarity
- Convenient onscreen controls
List price: $299.99 (that's NaN% off!)

Great monitor - great priceIt's an attractive LARGE flat-screen CRT monitor, and I do mean FLAT. Despite the large display area (18" viewable), the overall size is not outrageous. It stands 17 1/2" high, and it's about 17 1/2" long. It tips the scales at around 46 pounds, and the case is sleek-looking, not bulky.
It's PNP, which means the drivers Windows automatically loads for it work fine. I downloaded the drivers from the web site and installed them with no problems.
The digital controls are easy to figure out. I had this thing set up and running perfectly within a couple of minutes.
It produces a splendid image. Image quality is very good. I am particularly pleased that text is so sharp. Colors are good, and there are no flaws that I could see in geometry.
It worked well with my game, and switched resolutions quickly and *silently* when going from desktop to game, or back.
I bought it online for two hundred dollars, and I certainly feel I got a very good deal. I paid three times as much for my old Viewsonic monitor, and IMHO this is as good or better.
Bottom line:
I recommend the Envision 980e... 19" .25 mm flat CRT.
Pro: Handsome CRT large display, compact size, crisp text, good colors, easy controls. Great price. Three year warranty.
Con: No drivers included (download from web site). Skimpy manual.
Nothing Better
For such price - GREAT DEAL!I recommend it to anyone who wants to find reasonable solution for such price.
I have $600 CRT monitor at work, and this Envision at home and honestly I don't see any difference. So why bother with paying more? :)

- Virtually flat high-resolution 18-inch viewable screen
- Supports resolutions up to 1,600 x 1200 at 65 Hz
- 4-port USB hub
- Slate blue-and-silver design matches the Vaio PC
- High-contrast black screen coating
List price: $499.99 (that's NaN% off!)

The Old Swictharoo
Good monitorAlso, for the people that buy the Sony and notice 2 fine lines across the screen on a light background, that is NOT a defect, that is the damper shadow in a Trinitron tube, the technology that gives you a brighter image.
This monitor has to be the best out there!!!Anyway you look at it, it is the best.
I absolutely love it.
About those 2 horizontal lines, people who complaining
go to be kidding...
It is just part of the TRINITRON technology and it is barely visible.
I have seen lots of other monitors, and none can close to the
SONY HMD-A400/L.
Besides that, Exellent monitor, and as people said before it's not true that text is bad!
