Beware of defect
Great Monitor!Although the screen not perfectly flat, it is much flatter than my old Hitachi. One thing that impressed me is that other than vertical and horizontal adjustments, I needed absolutely no other geometry adjustments (rotate, trapezoid, pincushion, etc., needed no adjustments). Maybe this was because of the flat tube inside?
When I first booted up the computer, the image did appear washed out, but that was because this monitor is so bright. After lowering the brightness to almost the lowest setting images and text look very sharp. I use it at both 1280x1024 (85Hz) and 1600x1200 (75 Hz). I enjoy the flexibility of the different resolutions a CRT monitor offers compared to a LCD.
For the price, this 21 inch monitor offers great performance. I would buy it again!

This is a great monitor
NEC , Nineteen is the King!
Awesome Monitor!I had much apprehension about getting an aperture grille monitor because of all the hoopla about the 2 visible lines that run horizontially across the screen. In fact, I decided to go with the Pioneer 19" shadow mask space saver ...but after waiting weeks without it shipping I began looking again. I read various reviews that stated: if you play alot of games & do a lot of graphic intensive work on your PC then you want an aperture grille monitor. So I canceled the order for Pioneer monitor & Purchased this monitor instead.
This is an awesome monitor. The graphics are extremely crip & clear. The anti-glare screen makes looking at the monitor for hours easy on the eyes. The price is unbelievably low for the quality.
As for those 2 lines. They are visible, especially on really light backgrounds. But I had to stare long & hard to find both of them. They're extremely faint & about as thick as thin strand of light-gray hair. I use my computer to watch DVD's; to play games such as the Myst series & the Longest Journey; to run programs such as Bryce 3D & Poser; & to run Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, & Access). MS Word is the only program that I've noticed the 2 lines in, but once I get some text up on the screen the lines pretty much disappear into the background.
If you spend most of your time in Word Processing programs then you should buy a shadow mask monior. If you run a lot of graphic intensive programs then you'll love this monitor.

Great Flat Panel
One of the best I've ever haveThe view angle is wide enough.
This is a great LCD monitor.
Pricey...but an very, very good LCD monitor.First, the speakers that come with this monitor are barely adequate. Good for basic sound but that's about it. And finally, this was my first LCD monitor; knowing I'm paying more then I should when compared to other quality LCDs with the same warranty period and bad pixel policy. With that said, there are monitors just as sharp as this VX800 for much less money. If you're comfortable buying an LCD with a top of the line brand name, ViewSonics and Samsungs are who to turn to. But when I buy my second LCD for my other computer, I'm going to look very closely at LCDs from Hitachi and Envision. These two companies make terrific LCDs with great warranty/bad pixel policies for significantly less money.
You won't go wrong with any VX series LCD, but you'll also do well spending less money for the same quality buying a Hitachi or Envision. This VX 800 gets 5 stars based solely on the quality of the monitor. If price was to factored, I'd drop the rating to 4 stars.

Best of the Best in CRT.The only reason i took a star off is because of the high price. You can always expect a higher price from sony, because of the name, the guaratees etc. None of which are worth that much in the end.
Bottom line is that this is a great product that delivers. If your budget is tight, i'd suggest going with a Compaq CRT. They are much less expensive, and provide almost exactly the same quality. A layman wouldn't know the difference. But as i said when i purchased my HMD, nothing looks like a sony!
This is a great moniteri have used this with many graphics cards, and from cheap (tnt2) to semi-high end (geforce4 ti4200), this montier works very good. I have it running on a ati radeon 9200 right now, 1152x864 pixels @ 100hertz refresh rate, and this is godly.
As another reviewer said, it "may" come where the screen is distorted,,, this also occures with diffrent refresh rates and graphic cards, Please note though, that the moniter is fully configur'able, and with some fine tuneing, will look perfect (a major plus).
The only downside, is the weight... This thing weighs a TON. I have a problem putting it on my computer desk, because it just weighs so much, so i had to put supports on the desk.
i work with alot of moniters, and there has yet to be one that can beat this in picture quality. refresh rates are un-notice'able on high hertz.
I would also recommend any other SONY moniter out there currently, even their LCD moniters are TOP NOTCH.
I have also had a 3 year old 19inch sony trinitron moniter, still works flawlessly.
The anti-glare feature is also a huge plus, it will dim artificial light, and this comes in very handy when working at night.
~Hope this helps

great sound, great price, good comfort.Despite the uncomfortable pressure that may occur on the ears, these headphones are actually very comfortable to wear. They sound so good that I want to turn up the volume just to enjoy them more. The sound is clear, the bass is strong and clean but won't drown out the mid-tones or treble. The treble itself is sometimes lacking, but most of the time it isn't a problem. The individual sounds are heard so well with these headphones that if there is any extra noise or flaw in what you are listening to, you'll notice it immediately.
nice
Best Headphones I've Ever Seen / (Heard)!!Listening to movies and CDs through these 'phones is a pleasure. Surround sound effects come through nicely when listening to 5.1-Channel or 2-Channel Surround material, with many subtle surround effects seeping through that you possibly had never heard when listening through your regular speaker system.
The sound reproduction on this product seems very "natural" and undistorted. And not "tinny"-sounding, like can be the case with many different headphone brands.
Extraordinarily comfy, to boot! The ear cups don't pinch, or dig into your head. The padded headband adjusts to fit the biggest (or smallest) of craniums. And they don't make your ears sweat like a nervous politician on Election Day (oh, sorry ... I should have said "perspire"). :)
You can wear these things all day and suffer no ill effects on your head/ears. (Well, unless, of course, you lay too heavy on the volume control.)
It *is*, in fact, difficult to keep the volume in the "low"/"restrained" range while using these sonically-pleasing babies. Because they sound so good!
The ATH-M30 is an exceptional product; and a terrific bargain to be sure.
Hard to imagine even $100-plus 'phones giving better performance than these.

Ok stand but not good for keyboardsI found the Kamas to be much more "transparent" in the sense that it really disappears under your laptop instead of the bulky plastic, that while the iClear is clear, it feels bulky and bounces around to the touch. The Kamas is solid, no movement at all. I often use it with a TFT 15" or 18" monitor and it's a great combo. You can slide the keyboard under it on a gentle slope and adjust the height as well, so for someone who uses my laptop for work, again, it was well worth the extra money.
Even for heavy notebooks, this stand is a winner.

Still going strongThe landscape/portrait option is great to have for maybe photo editing (for portrait photos), internet browsing, and word/spreadsheets processing. My ATI software for my video card supports this feature. Also, the DVI/VGA switch (A and B) allows maybe two computers to share this monitor (if one uses DVI and the other uses VGA).
If memory serves me right, my research for a 19-inch monitor before buying this led me to find out that this monitor uses almost half the power of the average competitor, including Dell. If it is any factor to anyone, it may save you money as a long-term investment in terms of product lifetime and power saving.
Just a little info for people searching for their next monitor:
*A 19-inch LCD is not the same as a 19-inch CRT in terms of viewable screen (19-inch CRT will typically be 18-inch viewable).
*Samsung is gradually becoming one of the better electronics company...they got my vote as being the best.

Good Monitor...
GREAT BUY!I've actually been using it as my primary monitor the last month and I've been very impressed. The brightness, contrast and clarity on it is fantastic. I've used it for many graphics-intensive apps like video and photo-editing, CAD, etc... I still can't get over the quality of this thing. I'm using it in my home with normal to dim lighting, no direct sunlight and certainly no flourescent lighting (i.e. office setting) just to be clear about my point of view. Although the screen has an anti-glare treatment so it probably does well in those conditions also.
My favorite feature is it's size. It is so small that when it arrived on my porch I was certain it couldn't have been the monitor I ordered as the box was way too small for anything like that. When I opened the external packaging and saw the Envision box I still couldn't believe it could fit into something so small and light. 5 minutes later it was mounted on the stand and plugged into my PC. This has to be the smallest LCD footprint available. You can easily mount this on a wall although I haven't tried it. It couldn't be more than 2" deep. Probably more like 1.5 inches.
If I had to fault anything it would be the on-screen controls since they're mediocre but even then I'm stretching it. My Samsung has better on-screen controls but as I see it, who really cares. My interest is in image-quality, footprint size, and cost. This ones has done well for me on all three counts.
