this TV is great--and we don't watch much TV!
We got this mainly for it's space-saving features, mostly to keep the TV out of our way. We don't have cable, and were worried the picture would not be so good. It is better than good, it is simply great! (but you do seem to need an external antenna.) I am amazed at how sleek it is!!! Highly recommend.

Wonderful
The Sharp 15 Inch Flat Screen TV is wonderful. I gave one to my husband last year for Christmas and it is the only TV (we have four TVs) watched on a daily bases. We have a large screen TV however it does not have clean, clear picture that the Sharp Flat screen TV has. Thanks Sharp and keep up the good work.

Great Sound
You will not regret your buy. Outstanding value for the price & it's 600 watts. Have all the decoder you can think off.Very easy to set-up. Clear direction manual.

I have a Sony also. But really can't differentiate with this one.

Fantastic value
I just got the SDAT1000 set up and watched a couple of DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 movies on it. Both formats sounded pretty much the same, although the DTS encoding seemed a tad bit louder (you can search for religious debates of Dolby vs. DTS elsewhere on the Net). It is truly an awesome value, especially at the sale price combined with the free shipping special! Since I can only agree with the other reviewers, I will add some detail that they may have left out. It has a digital coax input for the DIGITAL 1 input channel, and an optical Toslink input for the DIGITAL 2 input channel. The other 3 analog inputs are standard stereo RCA connectors. You will need to buy your own audio cables for these connections, since none are supplied. All speaker wires are supplied and are nicely color-coded for easy setup. The rear surround speaker wires look like they can easily reach up to 25' from the receiver (I haven't measured it though). The only disappointment at all was not being able to set up my DISH Network's universal remote to operate this receiver, but I am not going to complain much with this kind of value.

one of the best out there
the sharp sd-at1000 is by far one of the best home theater out there for its price(i got mine for 199). it has 600 watts or total power and can decode everything, dts, dolby digital, pro logic and pro logic 2. its also utilizes sharp's 1 bit technology which converts analog signals into digital, while its ultra-high speed sampling rate captures detailed, high frequency sounds that could never before be experienced. it also has 2 digital and 3 line inputs and a nice design. this system also doubbles as a am/fm radio with magnetically shielded front speakers. my only complaint is it does not have a dvd play but for the price i really wasn't expecting one. later models such as the sd-at 3000 and 4000 dv do contain dvd players but for a much higher price. i'd recommend this system to anyone, just buy a good dvd player and you're good to go.

best TV I ever had
The Sony company should win an award for this HDTV it s the best picture I have ever seen. DVD's are super and HDTV for sports and PBS is fanstatic. BUY IT !!

The only downside was the wait for the stand, and the lack of space for components below.

Picture perfect
I had it for more than 6 months with Digital TV decoder. It is perfect TV for the digital TV programs like major prime time dramas and many NFL games.

Simply Beautiful!!
We've had this TV for a few months now, and the picture still blows us away. There are only a handfull of High Definition channels right now, but watching an HDTV broadcast, makes this set worth every penny. Watching sporting events in HD is like having a seat inside the stadium / arena(This set is a football lover's dream. ESPN HD is the coolest!). We looked at a bunch of different models, including some of the bigger screens, but this one is just the perfect size for us, and the Sony was the most highly recommended by salespeople(they always noted how busy repair guys were with some of the other models). A good store will have HD pumped in on all their TVs to help with deciding which unit has the best picture. The Sony was sharp, the sound was good, and the remote was easy to learn. Also, watching DVDs with the progressive scan is like going to the movies. With the different audio and video setups, multiple inputs(including a convenient front input), and universal remote(included), you'll be very pleased with this set, whether you're watching the latest movie on DVD, catching the playoffs, or watching your favorite show in HD. This one is a good choice.

GREAT MONITOR
Purchased this monitor from amazon with free shipping and 25 dollar rebate. It was the lowest price around. Received monitor, it took about 5 minutes to set up looks great would highly recommend this monitor and use amazon for the lowest price.

Best quality
I've used other LCD monitors at my workplace, but the brightness, brilliance and clarity of the Sony's SDM-series monitors surpasses all of them. Images do not look "pixelized" like those on Samsung LCD monitors. The price is well worth it (...).

Others have complained that the base of the monitor is too large -- However I have no problem with it because it's the perfect place for my wireless mouse & keyboard receiver!

Extremely good value
I was looking for a Samsung 17 inch monitor when I spotted the Sony SDM-HS73. The picture was amazingly crisp and the colors bright compared to the NEC and Samsung monitors next to it. Reading the specs, I noticed that its pixel pitch was .264mm, and the contrast ratio was 500:1, indicating a very good quality monitor. When I brought it home, I placed it next to my old 19 inch CRT monitor to compare screen size - the SDM-HS73 was a tad bit bigger! Setup was simple - plug and play. I ran my favorite screen saver, Marine Aquarium on it and couldn't be happier. The picture looks great - sharp text, vivid colors. My husband will be buying one also.

Wow!!!! How did I ever live without this?
Beautiful design, gorgeous picture, easy set-up (with windows XP at least), and the prime space I reclaimed on my desk right in front of where I sit is awesome. Only slight annoyance is that when I bring my system back up from standby mode, the screen requires that the on/off button be pressed to bring it back on. This is quite annoying, but I can live with it because everything else about this monitor is so excellent.

Great monitor...after some minor tweaking.
I bought this monitor for a Gaming Rig and have not been dissapointed! It took some minor tweaking when I got it set up, the automatic stuff just didn't quite cut it. Mainly for black. I ended up having to turn down the brightness quite a bit so that black areas of the screen LOOKED black. Other that that I LOVE this monitor and do not regret spending the extra money on a large LCD.

Outstanding 19" LCD for the price...
I purchased this 19" puppy after convincing my dad that he needed my 1 year old 17" Hitachi LCD for his office. The Hitachi was an excellent monitor, but I just couldn't resist upgrading to a larger screen--especially with Sony's rebate offer (now expired...I think).

First off, this screen looks beeeeauuuuutiful! I mean, wow, talk about clean, simple and sleek. I don't need all the crazy bells and whistles such as speakers, USB ports, etc, that this monitor lacks...c'mon who the hell relies on a monitor's speaker; likewise, if you need more USB ports, get a freakin 4-port hub for twenty bucks.

One other factor to note is that this monitor is only analog signal, no DVI. If half of you reading this even know what that acronym stands for, let alone what the difference is, I'd be very impressed. Basically, it's a digital signal that should make images on the screen appear better. Guess what, I couldn't give a hoot about this; in fact, my video card on my 1 year old Dell doesn't even have DVI output. Unless you're a gamer that has no life, no girlfriend and sits reading amazon.com reviews all day long, then don't worry about having only analog.

With that said, onto the actual image quality. Well, upon turning the screen on for the first time, I prayed to the Lord Almighty that no dead pixels should appear. And the Lord heard my prayer and proclaimed, "Thou shalt not have any dead pixels, not even ONE, lest Sony give you a hard time with their dead pixel policy". And the Lord gazed upon the screen and saw it to be good. Ah yes, Bible studies ver. 1.0 amazon.com style...

...anywhoo, this is the most brilliant screen I have ever seen. The contrast ratio is like 600:1...that means it's amazingly bright and vivid. Be prepared to actually lower the contrast and brightness--that's a good thing to have to do with a monitor folks. The onscreen menu options are clear, concise and virtually dummy-proof. For all you fretting about manually adjusting the screen size, rotation, alignment etc., fear not; this is an LCD and it automatically adjusts all the settings for you, like most other LCD's on the market. I have the image size set at 1280 x 1024 on my Windows XP computer and everything looks magnificent. Text is clear especially using the "clear type fonts" available only on XP for LCD screens.

If you're in the market to toss your 60lb CRT out the window and upgrade in style to an LCD, this is the one. Don't worry about Sony's newer models they have out now with DVI capability. Chances are your video card doesn't even have the output so you'd be wasting your money. This is an EXTREMELY affordable 19" monitor. Now's the time folks...buy it.

We have surround sound, now we have surround sight!
A truly unique monitor for your PC. It's almost like a mini IMAX experience. Having the 16:9 ratio brings another dimension to your web browsing, game playing and--oh, your work too. Have only tried Flight Simulator 2002, game wise, on it and you feel like you ARE the pilot in the real thing. As for web browsing, there is no such thing as having to "scroll" right to see the whole page even with your favorites opened, and if you use the "link" bar get ready to add another 1/2 dozen to it. I'm sure the future of LCD's will certainly move to this format, as we see this is the direction which TV's are moving. With Sony being one of the first to offer this format, I'm sure the competition will be close behind, but will need to run to match the performance of this monitor. Only wished I had one at work too! It helps to have a high performance computer and video card to bring out the best in this monitor.

The ideal entertainment display.
Worth every penny. The visual quality is actually greater than the previous CRTs i have owned, and (rare for an LCD) the refresh rate is surprisingly high. Has plenty of inputs on the back, which I have used to connect my computer, vcr, dvd player, and gaming console.

Some may whine about the lack of a TV tuner, but it's actually a good thing: dishing out the extra $40 for one in turn allows you to use plenty of amazing software otherwise unavailable, such as that at dscaler.org, which allows you to view the tv signal in progressive scan (incredibly high quality).

To top it off, widescreen in windows is REALLY awesome. my only warning is, for any lcd monitor purchase, find a retailer that has a good trade-in policy for dead pixels. A+

WOW! Awesome Picture, Colorful & Vibrant!
This has been the best investment for computer gaming. After building a new speedy system from scratch, I was tired of my old CRT monitor. I had heard that the LCD monitors were slower for gaming and was reluctant to invest in one. I was gladly mistaken. The picture, razor sharp text, clarity, vibrant color and high definition are a gamer's dream come true. I LOVE this monitor. It's been worth every dollar. I'm on-line now more than ever. I watch this monitor more than my T.V.

"Perfect Flat" Flat Fanatical
I can safely give this monitor 5 stars because of its price and clarity of the picture it produces. The main thing that brought me to buying this monitor was the "Perfect Flat" in it's title. A flat screen is definitely important to me. But, there is still a curve to the actual display, albeit slight, but it's not what i was expecting. And there is deceptive layer of glass in front of the screen that actually IS flat. So when your monitor is off, you'll think it will display perfectly flat but it's not.

That being said, this is still an excellent monitor that i wish was "Perfectly Flat" - oh well atleast my TV is "Perfectly Flat!"

Everything I could have hoped for.
This moniter is incredable. Huge spread in resolutions, can go all the way up to the incredible resolution of 2048X1536! Thats the equivelant of a photo from a 3.1 megapixel camera. Of course it only supports 60 herts refresh rate at that resolution, making it mostly uselss, but its still great to view photos from my digital camera on it. It will also disply 32 bit color on all resolutions, and at 1600X1200 its suppports 75 htz which looks great. All in all I am very impressed with the specs especially for the $$$$ I bought it at.

Great monitor!
I just bought this monitor last week and it's incredible. It did, however, take a lot of time tweeking it, but it was worth it. Crisp clear text, great color, and great refresh rates make it well worth the money. I ordered it from Dell.com, paid a little more then here, but I got free shipping so it ended up being cheaper. And, Dell had it on my doorstep in less then 24 hours! Can't beat that! I knew nothing about monitors when I first started to look, and I read everything I could. I concluded that this, for the price, was the best out there. Much better then the old one I had. If you're a gamer (like me) this is the monitor to get.

Once you go LCD you won't go back
I purchased this a few months back and I have been very pleased with the quality of the Viewsonic VG151. The setup may seem like it is a little complicated because the back doesn't have exposed video or power connectors. You have to remove a plastic panel in the back of the monitor to connect the power and video cables. It is well marked and easy to do.

My monitor arrived with no dead pixels and still has none after months of use.

The picture is fabulous. It is very bright and clear and has great contrast. The screen size is the same as a 17" CRT. Unlike a 17" CRT it takes up very little space on the desk. I have a rather cramped desktop for this PC, so its footprint is a big plus.

One added feature is the VG151 ships with both an analog and DVI video cable. Many times LCDs will only ship with the analog and you'd have buy the DVI cable separately.

I love this LCD monitor and I'd buy it again.

A clear window to the world.
This is a great little LCD monitor! It's bright, extremely clear, and seems quite roomy. I've used it with my Macs and PCs without any trouble at all. Mine did ship with a "stuck green" pixel in one corner, but it's hardly noticeable. Initial setup was a little more involved than I expected, requiring connecting several cables beneath a plastic panel in the back of the monitor. This monitor has both DVI and regular DB15 connectors. If you don't plan to use the DVI connection, you might want to go with a cheaper model. I use both connections, which allows me to have a Mac and PC connected to the monitor at the same time. Note that connecting the monitor to the newer PowerMacs via DVI usually requires a fairly inexpensive ADC to DVI connector cable. The digital display is just fantastic!

Great Addition to My Computer System
Just love this monitor. Got it as a treat last Christmas, and have used it for many hours each day ever since. It is trouble free, and gives me nice contrast and accurate color. I do some graphic arts work and this monitor is adequate for my needs.

Gamers...caveat emptor
This is an excellent monitor with super crisp text and outstanding graphics. If those are your uses, you'll be very happy with it. However, if you are a gamer...or have kids who play games...I was happier with my old 19" CRT. I think you would be too. Although game graphics are great, fast movement results in blurred images. I bought this monitor specifically because I had read reviews stating that this was not a problem with this monitor...but it is. Not an overwhelming problem, just a little disappointment.

ViewSonic gets it right
I've had the VG175 17.4" LCD monitor for about a year now, having bought it when it was more $, and I couldn't be happier with it. It's footprint (and weight) is nothing compared to the 19" CRT that it replaced, and I like the picture much better. The viewable area is HUGE. No more eyestrain from staring at the CRT either. It was a relative snap to set up, and the display is crystal clear. The swivel adjust is a nice plus. I know someone who owns the VE-150 15" LCD and there is no comparison between the two. This monitor puts it to shame. ... Highly recommended.

extremely pleased
Bought this monitor six months ago, when it was more money, and I still do not regret it. This ViewSonic is outstanding. I watch DVDs, my MPEG movies, and digital pics with exceptional clarity. My brother, the computer nerd, was so impressed, he too, bought the LCD flatscreen; actually said I made a good choice. For my needs (fyi: I use this for creating my own webpage, graphics, sending MPEG movies & digital pics...the creative side of my brain, and excel, but I am far from a computer wizard), I required a monitor w/a large screen, takes up very little space, beautiful resolution, and clear type (in some monitors the actual type is hard to read, not as bold as this monitor). This ViewSonic delivers. For me, a must-have.
