Not sure if worth the money
Traveling Movie Theater Works GreatThe unit is easy to operate and works very well. Its screen doesn't close easily and I probably would have thought this to be a defect if the installer hadn't mentioned it when he was showing me how to operate it. A 16:9 screen would be cooler, but for the car the screen size is just fine.
The only problem I've noticed is that it seems to have problems handling imperfections (scratches/fingerprints/debris) on a DVD. It sometimes gets stuck (i.e. pauses) at certain points in a movie. So far this has only happened on DVDs that have visible scratches, fingerprints or debris on them. Skipping forward a little works to get past the problem. Since these same DVDs work flawlessly in our home DVD players and any flaws in the DVDs are very minor I've thought about taking this player back for a replacement. But, since it hardly ever happens I'm okay with it.
Our kids (4 and 2) really like having this in the car. We recently took a trip across the state and when the kids weren't sleeping or coloring, they were watching movies. It was the first long trip during which we didn't hear the "are we there yet" chant from the back seat. The kids were totally content.

Good for its time, but now it depends...

Top Quality... Hefty PriceI have a laptop with the TFT technology (as they all do) and i'll say that this monitor (the CRT type) is just as good. This seems a lot easier on your eyes because it seems more like a computer monitor then a TV type monitor. The TFT's seem so bright and pure that its like looking at a tv... (hence if you're too close it sort-of defeats the purpose).
I've used both types, and for the price i'd say that you should go for this technology. Also, I have the same type of monitor at home (but the Sony Trinitron Brand) and they are both identical in every way. Crispness is exactly the same.
The reason i'm only giving it 3 stars is because the price is quite hefty. I bought my Sony Trinitron for 520 almost 2 years ago. This compaq model is priced at about 500. You should expect Compaq's prices to be much lower (or Sony's to be much higher because of the name). I actually purchased a Compaq almost Identical in every way from this model (mine is the Compaq I910 Flat Screen 19" CRT Multimedia Monitor) and i paid only 219.00 for it online.
I would search far and wide to get the 200 dollar one instead of this one or instead of the Sony Trinitron. Like i said, i have both Sony, and Compaq models (one at work, and one at home) and they're performances are identical. But i paid 500 for sony, and 219 for compq.
Now remember that it says "Flat Screen" not "Flat Panel". The technologies are very different, although not 100% apparent, and the only technological difference (as seen by the human eye) is that one has a big box behind the screen, and the other is thin) Both are flat, and both are very good to look at. One just costs a lot more.
The CRT models are based still on tubes but different types of tubes. This type is far more advanced than the old types, and you'll notice a line about 2-1/2 inches from the top and bottom of the screen. This is normal. This is a wire going across the screen and is part of the technology. This is probably another slight difference that you won't see in the TFT.
If you can get the 219 dollar version (I910) go for it. Its a great buy. Same quality without the hefty price tag.

Cheap, but you get what you pay forStill, after tuning, text is not sharp; there is faint bleeding between pixels. You can sense this as you use it, and you can see this problem clearly if you use a magnifying glass. At first I thought this was a matter of using a DVI cable, but the monitor's LCD is just not of high quality. If you haven't used LCDs extensively in the past, you may not notice. If you have, you will.
Also, the rated life of the backlife is 10000 hours, about 1/5 of most other monitors. Compared to my more expensive Sony SDM81 LCD monitor, it is more contrasty but is definitely inferior.
I did not have any problems with dead pixels, and the monitor's response time is adequate for most purposes EXCEPT high performance gaming.

Review of Envision 8100ePrice of other same spec. LCD monitors was much higher.
I'm so happy I got the wife an Envision LCD also.

Maybe OK for the priceOh, the screen is not really flat despite what it says. It is curved horz. & vert. as much as a 70s-era TV. The specs may say that this has good resolution, but I didn't notice it. It is tiring to look at and not very bright.
If you are on a strict budget and have to get many of these, then maybe OK. But for not a lot more, I returned two of these and got a 17" flat screen. I am very happy with that decision.

Great Contrast, Small Footprint, Poor Color
NEC MultiSync LCD 1525MI'm very pleased with my NEC MultiSync moniter. LCD is the way to go if you can afford it... as the prices go down and the availability of LCD becomes the standard, it will become the only way to view your computer. The NEC has a very small footprint and the weight is a lot less than the CRT.
