Buyer Beware
I purchased my 1740 in Sep 2002, got 3 months of use out of it. It developed a problem, 2 entire lines of pixels went dead. It took numerous calls and emails (getting a call back from Formac is kinda like seeing Haily's Comet - it happens but maybe only once in a lifetime), finally Formac issues an RMA. After 3 weeks I call to check status, they claim they never received the monitor. After I produced the tracking verification that they signed, they finally admitted to receiving it. It took another week and a half to get a replacement. When replacement shows up, it doesn't work! That was 3 weeks ago and Foramc wont issue another RMA to me until I register the product on their website, and their automated registration doesn't recognize the SN of replacement monitor. Bottom line - Horrible service, nothing at Formac seems to work! Do yourself a huge favor and buy the Apple monitor.

Not Accurate!
Understates steps by 1/2--I counted 84 steps, it reported 43. I followed the placement instructions, but just couldn't get better results. If it was accurate, it would be a very nice little unit.

Probably the worst looking monitor I've ever seen.
My company bought 2 of these on the advice of one of our vendors. They are both some of the worst looking displays we have ever seen. You can easily see the grid (shadow mask?) in front of everything on the screen. After using it for ten minutes my eyes started to hurt. I had it right next to a Mistubishi Diamond Plus 70 monitor (2 years old) and there is no comparison. I suppose it's possible that we got a bad batch. I spent a considerable amount of time tweaking it but nothing I did made it bearable. I wouldn't take one of these if it was given to me.

Bad Support. Stopped working after just one month.
Stopped working after just one month.

Called Hitachi and they told me to call an authorized repair center. I called the repair center and the repair center referred me to another repair center... I called that repair center who made an appointment to see the TV... Took a week for them to come out to see it. After inspecting it told me they have to order a replacement power supply from Hitachi... That took almost two weeks... Once they got it in, it took them couple of days to come to my house to replace the power supply. It still didn't work after that... So they decided to replace another part, the logic board, which they have to order from Hitachi again...

It's been almost two weeks again. And I have been with out TV for over a month... Paying almost $6k for a TV that works for a month made me really upset as you can imagine. I would have been happy if Hitachi fixed it in a reasonable time, but over a month is not reasonable. I have called Hitachi and asked for a refund or replacement to which they just flat out said no. Of course during this time I am also paying for Satellite service which I can't use. I would highly recommend staying away from ALL Hitachi products.

Not worth it
I bought the weather station but I have a few problems as explained below:

1. The outdoor temp sensor is inacurate, over reads by 5-7 Deg C.
2. Indoor temp over reads by 3-4 deg C.
3. The outdoor humidity sensor is highly inacurate, way out.
4. I have yet to get another devise to check the acurracy of the wind speed.
5. At times the outdoor sensor switches itself off for a duration of 30 - 40 min for some unknown reasons, I cannot find out why.
6. The power supply conector don't have a good contact to the main unit.

They should make this things more accurate and reliable then just the good looks.

    Undependable
This seemed like a great monitor at first. Suddenly after only five months or so of use (5-6 hours per day) I noticed a blurry spot in the screen which began to grow. Adjustments, degaussing, and testing on other computers didn't solve the problem. My old Acer monitor of 5 years is now clearer than the NEC.

Regardless of the warranty, repair means shipping off the monitor which causes costly downtime for a small business owner. I lose enough money in the downtime to buy half a dozen or more of these monitors. I expect hardware to last longer than a few months, especially NEC's since it's often costlier than other brands.
