Kensington 5.0 Expert 4 Button Trackball is a great product for any computer user, being extremely rugged, precise and versatile. It's especially good if you have hand problems like I do. A few years back I broke my neck and as a result experienced serious loss of motor control in my hands. Since I use my computer several hours a day, use of a regular mouse became more and more of a difficulty for me. I looked at the options and decided to try the Kensington Expert Trackball. I use it in an unusual way--I tie it to my chair, and use it between my legs. I used epoxy to glue a ring on the plastic bottom of the mouse's case, to which I attach a nylon cord which is tied to my computer chair. This was the answer to my troubles, as I am now able to keep my wrists and arms almost straight when using the mouse. It is a very secure and ergonomic way to use this product. The product itself definitely rates five big stars for quality and durability. This product is a must-have computer tool, for me at least. I predict you'll especially like the "Easy-Launch" feature which enables you to program all kinds of functions onto the mouse.

This is an excellent trackball. I have used it for some time now, and until I picked up a MS Trackball Explorer, this was my favorite input device. While I enjoy some of the "advanced" features of the Trackball Explorer, such as optical sensors (no cleaning!), scroll wheel, and ergonomic shape (this is a great piece for web surfing), the Expert Mouse still has a special place in my heart. :) For longer periods of use I generally prefer it, and the large ball makes my hands happy. Also, tech support is PHENOMENAL, far better than MS. In fact, I had to replace my expert mouse not long ago (5 yr warranty!) and they happily sent me out a new one. No RMA, no return, no _anything_ except "we'll send one right out". And they answered immediately. Most of the time with computer tech support, I don't even bother, and either try to fix it myself (easier said than done w/ hardware) or just bite the bullet and replace it. In this case, it was a pleasure to call. If I could give an add'l star for "extra credit", this trackball would rate a "6".

This is one of the best trackball mice I have ever used. The bigger size of ball helps you controll the mouse pointer much better. You can also configure 4 buttons to do most of the things you want to do with during a typical mice use. (I use top two buttons to move forward and backword while browsing Internet pages.) Its also very easy to change the behaviour of the buttons. Although I have used this mouse only for a month now, I have already become a big fan. I also feel that maintainace should easier that other trackball mouse.
The only thing bad about this mouse is its price. At $100 this is about twice other comparable mices. But the ease of use and useful featues easily make up for the price.

I have rather sweaty fingers (I tell ya, this is really annoying), so it is essential for me NOT to rely on touch pad too much. This tiny mouse has been a life saver for me. It is rather affordable, and works pretty well with many (but not all; occasionally it doen't work on very, very smooth surfaces) surfaces. There are more expensive chordless models, but in many occasions, I'll be working on my notebook computer with limited amount of space, so having the "retractable" chord doesn't bother me at all.

"Retractable" is indeed the key here. It's so compact that you don't feel that you are carrying around yet another tiny electronic gadget along with your cell phone, mp3 player, shaver, etc., etc. Anyways, highly recommended.

This is a fantastic solution for a laptop. I don't like touch pads or even the stick in an IBM ThinkPad. I used to carry a full size mouse. This is virtually weightless and can fit in any spare part of a laptop bag. I initially found my hand felt cramped because I was trying to hold it with the same fingers I use for a full size mouse, but I consciously just rearranged my fingers and found it to be incredibly easy to use for long periods of time. The retracting cord is ingenious.

This product will work great for about three weeks. Then all hell breaks lose. You will need to change the channel more than often. Then, the keyboard will lose communication with the base station and for ever. Tech-support is stinky and worthless. By the time you find out about the product, you already lost your retailer return grace period, and you are left alone with some helpless pathetic tech and sales people. Stay clear from this product and save your money. This is my second system in two months from two different stores and they failed exactly the same way on time and to the minute. I had to put one star because there are no ZEROS. THIS PROUCT IS A SCAM

This mouse is GREAT! We have had it for over a year now and have had absolutely NO PROBLEMS what-so-ever. Super simple to use - even the kids learned how without instructions. (Just have to make sure they return it to the charging cradle.)~:o) The "freedom" of this Gyration mouse is more than wonderful. To be able to sit back in your chair and scroll through web pages is worth alot - especially to your back! I'm getting one for my dad, too.

Charge the mouse up, and then simply use it. There's no 'learning' mode necessary. You pick up the mouse and wave it around. Gyroscopes within the mouse track where you are pointing and move the mouse on the screen accordingly.

Click to click, hold down a button to point somewhere else. It's very straightforward and also very relaxing. Instead of leaning forward and putting pressure on your wrist to do any mouse movements, you just lean back in your chair and rest your arm whereever you want.

If you're doing something keyboard intensive, the mouse does work fine on the table too - so you don't lose normal mouse functionality. But if you are doing something that just requires a mouse - surfing the web, paging through an ebook or making a presentation - it's easy to lean back, wander around, put your feet up. The mouse works wonderfully from any location. It works on radio waves so you don't have to be "pointing at" the receiver.

Highly recommended for those who do a lot of mouse-only surfing or computer work, and also great for presentations.

I read the recent review from PowerBook G4 user and got confidence about the compatibility of this product. Now, I can't use the right button for backwarding a slide in my powerpoint presentation. Tried to install OS 9 MouseWare software came along with the product. It didn't work. I contacted technical support of Logitech, but they just simply said that this product is not compatible with Machintosh computer. Then, why they put that OS version MouseWare in their CD? Going back to the review that I read, what that user downloaded from the internet and could get it work? Did the right button work properly? You may want to check the review from Chile to see what I mean.

Even though with this partial functionality, this device is really must-have item for anyone who wants to present in speedy and smooth way. That is why I am still trying to find any way to make it fully functional.

I own a Apple powerbook G4 12 inches screen and I didn't have to install any additional software, just download some from the internet and it worked flawlesly every time I used it. Leaves the presenter with freedom to move across the room with no need to ask someone to change the slide (at last). The laser works very well, it is located in such a place that you don't have to look at the device to find it...good thinking.
I recomend this device to anyone who makes presentations regularly..it is jaw-dropping to the audience, leaves them wondering how do you change the slides...jajaja.

I read a whole bunch of rather positive reviews both at Amazon and online, but I have to say that I am even more amazed at how this product performs. First of all it requirs "zero" installation. I have tried it on 4 diffrent systems, from notebooks to desktops and it install and runs with no problem and no effort whatsoever on all of them. Plug it in, press the buttons on the USB controller and the mouse, wait 5 seconds and you are up and running. And once the Bluetooth connection is made, it is never interrupted! I use in class at USC where I teach computer science and it has changed the way I can teach the class. I wished I had found it before. I also use it for business presentations and again it has performed flawlessly all the time.

I bought an OEM version of this mouse from another vendor for next to nothing. The only thing different about it is that it didn't come with the normal packaging or the logitech logo on the top of the mouse.

Overall the mouse is okay. Installation is simple and the mouse itself works well for most things. I have two complaints about it though. The first is that it doesn't fit very well in my hand compared to some of the other mice in the marketplace. The second is that the mouse creaks and groans as you move it.

The bottom line when picking a mouse is to find one that you find comfortable to your hand and then buy that one. If I had to do it over again, I would have still gone with logitech, but just a different model.

I've had several pointing devices, including standard mouse, track ball, and pad. None comes anywhere close to being as natural and useful a performer as this one. Its simplicity of design hooks one almost immediately, and within a few minutes of use, one doesn't want to go back to the mundanity of ordinary mice. Unlike trackballs and most low-end touch pads, it's very sensitive, and so makes a servicable stepping stone for grahpic artists on the way to purchasing a more serious graphics tablet.

If it has a flaw, it's that its drivers seem too easily overwritable by other pointing devices you may have on the same system. Most people usually have only one pointing device, so this may be a non-issue for you, but I've found it difficult to run a serial and a P/S 2 device, and still retain full functionality for both devices. This is important to my needs, so I have to take a star away.

Even so, this is a fine mouse at a fantastic price. As someone who has spent a ridiculous amount of money on pointing devices, I wish I'd started with this one first.

I bought this mouse from Amazon recently and have been quite pleased. The best things I like about it are its light weight and its sensitive ball. No mousepad necessary. I did not even install the packaged software because the two clickers and the scroll wheel offer all the functionality I need when surfing the internet and browsing documents in Word. Highly recommended as a basic mouse even without the added functionality from the included software.
