Siemens SpeedStream Wireless PCI evaluationI use to have a Microsoft wireless adapter, but it died so I wanted to try out Siemens. Big mistake. I have PC with Windows 2000 Professional. So I just use the 10/100 ethernet instead.
Look elsewhere if you want a wireless connection.
It failed after 4-5 months
It's good, but the application is not neededI had several issues at once so I am not sure if the application was at fault, but I have been running fine 3 months without it.

Wait for better technologyBefore doing anything I read the information Diamond provided in the combo pack meant to connect a desktop and a laptop. Since this material didn't say anything about DSL, I called Diamond tech support. First thing they said was, "Don't use the package's CD-ROM, instead get drivers from Diamond's web site." Evidently the CD will mess up a DSL system.
OK. I got the drivers. I installed the card in my desktop, and the drivers, and put the pcmcia card in my laptop, and installed drivers. No wireless connection.
After three calls to Diamond, and an hour and a half on the phone, I got nowhere. Everything was supposedly set correctly, the machines seemed to sense each other's presence, but no communication ensued.
The tech people, who keep a file on callers so that they know roughly where you left off after your last call, were stumped.
One pointed out that you cannot use the Diamond set up if you have a 2.4 Gigahertz cordless phone in the house. I do, but unplugged and turned it off for the trials of wireless installation, so this was not an immediate issue. But it would have become one if we had gotten the wireless connection working.
Anyhow, I'll send the equipment back. Pity, because I had hopes it might be an easy solution to get internet access from my laptop when on the porch.

interference problemsThe only problem is that the card is nor working properly in my system.I have four western digital 740 sata disks in my system
this sound card picks up noise when i reading or writing to the disks this is very disturbing. I replaced the card with another
simpler card and everything works oke.
Hmmm...
great systemthis is one of the best card combo's on the markjet and professional reviewers say so. if the person below is learnign how to use a computer and installing their first card (and that is clearly the case from the "format" comments), they should take a breath and think about their own issues, not those of creative labs.

Drivers won't install
Empezó bien, pero luego dejo mucho que desear...
It Works and it's fastThat aside, this baby works great. No driver installation or other fiddling required, just plug it in. It runs 100MB in FULL duplex, so it is very fast. I use it in the lab to talk to routers and terminal servers. At home it's a fast way to load SiteScooper web clippings and to save backups.
All in all, an excellent value.

MAJOR ISSUES--Do not Buy!!
Buy a real Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Route and card insteadIt will only cost about $10 more to get the real WRT54G and PCMCIA card and it will be well worth the extra $10. I'm not sure what Linksys is trying to achieve by selling this combo with a such a crappy router. They should package the regular WRT54G with the PCMCIA card and offer a discount, instead they put this piece of crap router in with the regualr PCMCIA card and try to pass it off as a good deal. Shame on you Linksys. You will ruin your good reputation with this router.
Super Fast !!!!

BAD PRODUCTS - NO SUPPORT - DON'T PURCHASE BUSLINK PRODUCTSThe unit sound volume is weak, but this is not the problem. After just 3 months of use the unit wont play mp3 anymore, the screen went crazy every time I start it, and then froze. I contacted Buslink to got a replacement but I got THE WORST SUPPORT, INDIFERENCE AND BAD ATTENTION from they, particulary from Ivan Smith, customer support. Walk away from Buslink. They cannot replace the unit without the invoice from Datavision, they do not honor your waste , confidence nor preference. Stay away from Buslink, a unit that lasted only 3 months and they wont replace. I REPEAT, THE WORST QUALITY AND SUPPORT I GOT IN TONS OF PURCHASES. DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM BUSLINK
Overpriced...After going through the manual listened to some different styles mp3s... :
1. The earphones suck... can't use :(
2. The sound of Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 14 'Moonlight' - 1 Adagio Sostenuto was horrible :( Besides the low quality, there was some additinal background noise... So it sucked...
3. Loud rock is ok kinda :(
So I'm ready to return the product...

compatibility issue and poor receptionyes, I have no luck at all to install the driver
but when I install on my fujitsu laptop, it can be done easily
however, the result for me is disappointing, it get low in reception, while other can get good to very good
luckily I didn't get the card, but I'll suggest my co-worker to return this card if the netgear card I borrow to him is working, due to compatibility issue
wpa doesn't work
Clear documentation, easy to setupAnd with this card, I've FINALLY manage to get everything to work together. My home network now includes: Linksys router, Netgear wireless-G card on my laptop (win2000), and this D-link card on my wife's laptop (win98se).
Comments on this card:
Pros:
- very simple and clear (full-colored) instructions to setup.
- works well with win98se and win2k. I set it up within about 5-10min to work with the win98se laptop, which refuses to take the Netgear card. With Netgear, I spent 5 hours and it still did not work.
Cons:
- I feel the Netgear card is better in terms utility software and rescanning. If you are securing your network, the utility that comes with the card does not accept passphrase. This is a little inconvenient when you need to reset your password on your router. Netgear's utility provides a passphrase tool.
- When the wireless connection is broken (eg I switch off the router), the netgear card and utility rescans more quickly than d-link does. (netgear takes 10 sec, d-link takes about 18 sec. from the same spot.)
In terms of tech support, I've tried them all.
- Linksys has best tech support.
- Netgear's support is outsourced to India - and they don't quite care what you think about them. They kept pushing the blame to my ISP and router when the card didn't work on the win98se laptop.
- D-link support is also from India, I tried it before when I bought a USB hub and didn't like it. They gave you a case number for email correspondence, but don't followup.
When I was at Best Buy, the sales rep said linksys experienced much less returns than netgear and d-link, but linksys is usually more expensive. i guess you pay for reliability and better service.
Hope these comments help.

Was it just me?
DP-G310 okay but lacks best wireless security features
A Second Unit Works LIke A CharmFirst unit I got is defective - it refused to talk to my router reliably. Exchanged for the second unit and this one works like a charm. I am able to print from my notebook and desktop to my Samsung Multifunction Laser printer - the print speed is FAST and feels similar to direct USB connection!
Here's my advice on setting this unit up under Windows XP
1) First connect the DP-G310 via regular ethernet cable (NOT cross-over cable) to your Router / Hub / Switch. From Internet Explorer (or Netscape) type http://192.168.0.10 to enter the DP-G310 setup. If it doesn't come up then you need to follow the instruction on setting your computer's IP address to within the range. Fortunately, I have a D-Link 802.11B router which automatically talk to the DP-G310 so I don't have to go through the trouble of manually set IP address on my computer.
(However, if you don't have a Router / Hub and you just want to connect the DP-G310 DIRECTLY to your computer's ethernet port then you will most likely need a cross-over cable and need to set IP address of your computer maunally as instructed in the manual.)
2) Once you enter the DP-G310 setup page you need to enter your router's name, any encryption (64 vs. 128 bit, etc). This part is explained in the installation instruction.
3) Carefully write down the name of the print port as directed in the instruction manual. You will need this name later.
4) Now, save the settings, and make sure your firmware is up to date (v. 1.10 as of 6/05/04). Unplug the power of the DP-G310. Disconnect the ethernet cable from the DP-G310 and the router. Now power up the DP-G310 again and look carefully at the WLAN light and MAKE SURE IT'S LIT!! It takes about 30 seconds to establish connection with your router. Once the WLAN lights up go back to your web browser again and trying to enter the DP-G310 setup again. IF YOU CAN'T BRING THE SETUP PAGE UP DO NOT PROCEED - your print server is NOT talking wirelessly to your router so you need to go back to hard-wire connection and make sure all your wireless settings are indeed correct.
5) If you can bring up the DP-G310 setup page "wirelessly" then you are ready to proceed to the next step - setup the printer. Now, this is where the instruction becomes a bit confusing. The installation instruction tells you to manually create a TCP/IP printer port first then select the printer driver; however, this assumes that the printer driver for your particular printer is ALREADY provided by Windows XP. In reality, this is not the case for majority of the newer printers out on the market. If Windows XP does not already have built-in driver for your printer I recommend you do the following first:
For example, if you want to print from your notebook wirelessly to a USB Laser printer, THE FIRST THING TO DO IS INSTALL THE USB DRIVER OF THAT LASER PRINTER ONTO YOUR NOTEBOOK using a regular USB cable and make sure your notebook can print through the USB cable first.
After the printer is setup to print through USB cable, disconnect the USB cable, open the "Printer Folder" window, right click your printer, and goto "properties". Now click the "port" tab. Click "add port", click "Standard TCP/IP Port", and click "create new port". Now just follow the direction in the instruction manual - it's straight forward from this point on.
Although it may seem complicated but for me it's a smooth process and only took me about 15 minutes - now my desktop and my notebook both print wireless to my Samsung Laser Multifunction which connect through USB cable to DP-G310.
I hope the above information may be helpful.
Then I hooked up my Sony DCR TRV 33 mini DV camcorder, of course using the firewire interface. The ActionTec PCI card failed to recognize the camera. ... the cable provided with the product was bad. ... I will never purchase another product from ActionTec again.
