Asante FriendlyNET Portable Mini 4-Port USB Hub ( 99-00623-01 )
Made by Asante
  • Self-powered hub
  • 4 downstream ports
  • Up to 12Mbps transfer rate
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Warning - this product is bus powered, not self powered
I needed a hub with its own power supply. Asante has decided to go against naming conventions and calls their hub "self-powered". This normally means the hub has its own power supply. In the case of this hub, it means the exact opposite, that the hub pulls its power from the bus. This is normally called "bus powered". Beware, if you need a self powered hub, do not buy this product.

Belkin OmniView SOHO Series 4-Port KVM DVI Switch with Audio ( F1DD104U )

Everything is wrong about this product
I'm extremely unhappy with the Belkin OmniView SOHO Series 4-Port KVM DVI Switch with Audio.

    1) It is nearly impossible to connect a cable to the console DVI Connector. Belkin had to overnight a special extender to connect the monitor DVI cable to the KVM.
    2) Connecting the Power Adapter to the KVM blocks one of the peripheral USB ports.
    3) It's absolutely impossible to put on the cover (i.e. cable management cover) if you connect the four (Belkin) cables to it.
    4) Connecting only two PCs with a resolution of 1600x1200 to the KVM resulted in green shadows for one connection. (both NVidia cards GeForce 4 (4200 series) and a Geforce 5 (5200 series)
    5) The Microsoft Wireless Keyboard doesn't work as stated in the manual. I did manage to plug in the wireless dongle connector to the USB mouse port on the KVM but now I can't use the hotkeys to switch between computers. Belkin has also indicated that wireless keyboards don't always work as stated in the manual

    6) There isn't a FAQ or software/firmware upgrade listed for this device. That was a shock.

      Doesn't work stable
I bought this Hub and it doesn't work consistantly -- sometimes good, sometimes bad. Finally after a week it doesn't get recognized by the computer any more -- it's "Unknown Device". All other USB products works fine on my computer. This product is no good and don't waste your money and energy on it.

        Not a great product
I use a Sony RZ Pentium 4 2.80 GHz with a Linksys wireless USB link. This computer comes without a serial port that's why I had to install a Serial Port. The drivers installation were fine, and it did work (with some, not all applications) but when I turned off the computer and turned on again the system stopped recognizing the wireless USB, I restarted the system 5 times until it occured to me that it was something about the belkin port, then I unplugged and restarted and presto! the Linksys worked again, however, now even with the belkin Port unplugged I have to plug-off and plug-in the Linksys card in order to be able to access the lan. I other words, the Belkin installation spoiled my Wireless connection. Be aware that this product may conflict with some of your USB devices, and since some applications wouldn't work I would try another alternative as a PCI serial port card or a USB to Serial cable from another manufacturer.

          Old card made in 1997
This is very old card DirectX6, poor video quality, bad support.
Don't waste your money on this, get The Rodeon 7000 with 32MB for same price.
If you want problems in your system, this card is for you.

Cendyne XBOX WIRELESS NETWORK ADAPTER ( CDINW00214 )
          Made by Cendyne

          • Quick and simple connectivity via Ethernet
          • Supports Ad-Hoc or infrastructure modes
          • Compatible with 802.11b compliant devices
          Amazon base price: $
          Average review score:

No security, no ease of use
The Cendyne doesn't support security (however bad WEP is, it's better than nothing. However 'nothing' is what this offers.) In addition, configuration requires actually physically connecting to the machine via a cable rather than anything simple. Avoid this and try Microsoft's offering (heck, or anyone else's).

            Does not support headset profile
The title says it all. Also Xircom was bought out by Intel so these products will probably not enjoy long term support, judging by the website info on Intel (especially the driver pages).

            Avoid the D-Link DFB-A5
This product does not install easily on windows xp. It created conflicts on my machine. It is definitely not "plug and play." I would not purchase this product. D-Link tech support was unwilling to work through conflicts on my device manager. In the process of installation I lost all usb connections entirely.

            bad firmware worse technical support
The product shipped with defective firmware which causes it to reboot every few minutes. Drives you crazy when you are browsing because your browser will lock up. Dlink has a firmware fix you can find on their website, but when you download it you will not know how to install it in the WAP. Even worse, when you visit their website AGAIN and search for the instructions, they are wrong! The instructions tell you you MUST use a crossover cable [purchase it without reimbusement]
When you call technical support, you must penetrate to the 4th level before you can get the truth. There you will learn that a crossover cable is not needed. However,if you proceed without it you may void your warrantee.
This is a company which is poorly managed and does not deserve your business, shipping a known defective product and not able to tell you how to fix it without runing the risk of desrtroying it.

The antennas are NOT removeable, so don't expect to use an external gain antenna with it.

            This modem sucks
I'va had two of these modems with a 3Mbits DSL line, they both had the same problem : They work fine for about 3 weeks, and then blam, they just limit my bandwidth to ~128k, I have to unplug it, wait a little and then replug it ... At the begining I had to do that every 2/3 days, but now it's about every hour !
If you have to buy a modem, buy alcatel modems !
