Bad C/S support makes adapter worthless
I have the original serial adapter. Keyspan has never updated their software so that it works with MacOS (9.0 - 9.2). Software conflicts with all peripherals, creates networking problems. I've tried contacting Keyspan to find a solution, but they don't respond to customer emails.

Good, but does not work in OSX with an old printer...
I mistakenly purchased this product to use with an ibook for printing in OSX AND CLASSIC with an old Apple Laserwriter 300. Bad news: because the old printer does not have software for OSX, I cannot use the adapter with OSX! This adapter works easily with my old printer in the "classic" mac OS on my ibook; however, printing is very slow. So if you want to use an old printer with both OSX and Classic OS, forget about this product.

Works well with any USB equipped mac.
The description ."...for Mac Imac and Blue G3" is misleading, probably dating from when those were the latest and only USB macs available. Fact is, it works flawlessly to provide two working serial ports with any USB equpped mac.

I found that I could use my ancient serial printer from my grey G4 tower without even reading the documentation. I could print from any classic application, either running in the Classic environment, or when booting OS9. I was even able to use classic printer sharing across my LAN. The client software just sees traditional Modem and Printer ports, and works perfectly normally.

Note however, that if the serial device you intend to use with it doesn't have any OSX drivers, you'll still only be able to use it from Classic applications. (or 'Carbon' applications which you force to run under Classic) That includes most, if not all non-postscript serial printers.

Useless - does not retract
I agree with the previous review. This phone cord worked twice. Now, it only retracts about half way, and keeps getting worse. I'm returning it for a refund. Don't waste your time with this.

DO NOT Wast your time with this product...period
I am on my second one and I will be returning this one also. Both of them worked once and then would not retract fully after that. I was so mad I almost threw it against the wall. I thought the first one was a defect, but then when I got the second one I realized it was a design flaw... If you buy the Targus one keep your receipt because I guarantee you will be returning it. What I don't get is how Targus has the guts to release this product and also put on it: Satisfaction Guaranteed. What a joke...

Must Have!
This is wonderful for laptop users that travel or like to move your laptop around a lot. If I leave my laptop somewhere I hate having to worry about tripping over wires and wires everywhere just look bad. This is really small and compact! Perfect for traveling too. I've used it for about 8 months now and it hasnt had one problem...it still recoils well!

Not Very Reliable
My first Linksys BEFSRU31 DSL router failed in less than a year and I was able to get a replacement under warranty. The second one failed in about a year and a half. I'm now shopping for a router made by a company other than Linksys. I give it two stars instead of one because it realy is an easy-to-use router. But, if the darn thing keeps breaking down, who needs it?

Great product!!!...while warranty lasts that is :(
The product was working just great...until my warranty ran out that is. I bought the item back in August of the year 2001.. it didn't start malfunctioning 'til shortly before xmas of 2002. First the USB port went out and now I can't even communicate with the router and I can't even log on to the internet through the WAN port, I have to use the uplink port, but there is nothing I can do about it cuz...Warranty...expired!! I talked to Linksys and they said that I was pretty much on my own if I have no warranty and that they couldn't fix it if the warranty expired. There goes my money!... People.. don't waste your money on anything over $... I think I'm gonna purchase a cheap hub and link up that way rather than spend anymore money waiting for the warranty to expire before the thing goes out again!!

Good Product - poor customer support
I had 2 of these go bad on me within a year. STILL waiting after 1 week to get the RMA to return the second one. It took me 2 phone calls and 5 e-mails to get that far! I'm starting to look at competitors products!

stay away from Belkin
They work for a month and poop out. go with another brand

how many of these die
Great looking unit, but didn't live very long. I've had some Belking USB1.1 hubs that did the same. Fine for a while then just upped and stopped working. One even sparked whenever you plugged its power supply in!

Works well with USB 1.1 and 2.0
This hub has worked very well with my USB 1.1 ports. I recently tried it on my USB 2.0 PCI card. Initially, Windows XP didn't want to recognize the hub. A few switched ports and reboots later, problem solved. It is now running on USB 2.0 just fine, as advertised. In retrospect, my decision to pay a little more for a higher-quality product was a good one.

Of course, since no product is perfect, here are a few negative aspects:

1) All the USB ports are in the back of the product; it would be more convenient to have them in front.

2) The ports are quite close together. If you're using normal USB cables, you shouldn't have a problem, but some users with wider devices such as a flash card reader or a USB flash drive may have to unplug a cable or two to get the room they need to plug their devices in.

3) The AC adapter is HUGE; make sure you have plenty of room on your wall outlet or power strip to plug that monster in.

Doesn't Work at All
I bought one of these recently but was sadly disappointed. It is possible it is defective and I'll try returning it for a replacement. Here is what didn't work:

Booting a system gave the old "no keyboard found press F1" oxymoronic error message. Plugging the keyboard directly into the USB port of the computer didn't not have this problem.

The manual says to press 1+2 to "reset" the unit which I tried, but it seemed to go into auto-seek instead.

The manual and website were no help, of course.

If it turns out to be defective when I return it, I'll update the review (upward I hope!).

Not the best for power users
On the very positive side, the switch was really simple to set up. However, it doesn't work correctly with Win XP Tablet edition (mouse will go crazy and, if you have a monitor on the tablet that can switch from portrait to lanscape, it will always startup sideways regardless of your settings). Also, doesn't support the Apple key on a Mac -- but does work fine with Mac otherwise. Can be annoying for power keyboard users because the hot keys for switching are automatically on and anytime you press Ctrl twice it prompts you to switch (but, other than that, it's really great on Win XP Professional or Win 2000 machines). I'm still using the switch, though, for lack of better options ... it's better than being without one. And better than the competitors I've seen.

Stable Switch
I don't use wireless mouse nor keyboard at home, so no complain there. It works perfectly fine with the USB keyboard and USB mouse. I have the switch connected to my laptop and my desktop machine and I switch between the two machines using Ctrl + Ctrl hot key. It's really nice being able to see where I was and where I'm going. And it shows which machine the shared USB is connected to.

As another person indicated in the reivew of this product, it doesn't have a feature to turn off the beep when switching the machines. It gets kinda annoying at times, but it really isn't a big deal.

I have experienced no mouse skipping after switching, which I used to come across a lot with PS2 type of switches before. It's a really good switch if you have two machines you would like to use and all your peripherals are USB.

Too bad DLink dropped the ball.
I am usually a fan of DLink products but they really dropped it on this so called bridge. This is absolutely not a bridge. If you are looking for speeds slower than 802.11b this would be perfect but DLink insists on using terms like "turbo" and "extreme" Two tin cans and a piece of string communicate more effectively than two of these relatively pricey units.

Awesome Performance from such a Little Box!
Having this DWL-G810 Wireless Bridge is a great addition to any network ready device. I have this wireless bridge configured to connect to my network with 108Mbps speeds, and I can plug and unplug this into any network ready device. For example I've plugged it into my Playstation2, my computer in the garage when I want Internet access, a laptop when my friend came over, and even my Dad's PDA with Ethernet adapter installed.

The setup is rather simple, just follow the instructions, reboot the box and plug it into whatever you want. Just make sure it is within range, and sometimes fiddling with the antenna helps with the signal.

Working perfect (with right settings!)
OK. I have DI-624, DWL-G650 and DWL-G810.
I connected my KISS DP-500 Network DVD to the DWL-G810 and everything is working perfect, but you will need to work with settings for a few minutes.

DI-624:

Firmware - 2.42
Open System
WEP Disabled (#1)
TX Rate - Auto
Transmit Power - 100%
Beacon - 100
RTS - 2346
Fragmentation - 2346
DTIM - 1
Preamble - Short
SSID Broadcast - Disabled (#2)
802.11g only - Disabled
CTS - Auto
Super G Mode - Super G with Dynamic Turbo

DWL-G810:

Firmware - 2.12
Static IP
No Gateway Address (#3)
Infrastructure mode
WEP Disabled (#1)
TX Rate - Auto
Authentication - Open System
Super Mode - Super G with Dynamic Turbo

#1 - First you can try with security settings disabled and later you can enable security.
#2 - Guys: broadcast SSID is NOT necesary! No security issues!
#3 - this is the key!

Unplug both devices and it's done!

Doesn't work!
This item doesn't work with my Palm m130 which works just fine with the cradle. I am out my money as the seller did not include name and address. I am also out ... shipping charge.

It works, but be warned...
I followed the instruction hints from SGRANNELL and this cable works fine for my m130 on my Dell laptop. It DID NOT work until I hotsynced with the powered PALM cradle first. Think of this cable as a replacement for an already working cradle and it will work just fine for you, too. It may NOT work if you have never hotsynced with the computer before. It somehow needs a PALM cradle to "show it how" first. I rate it four stars for complete lack of instructions in the package and problems mentioned above.

It works! Honest!
I was obviously sceptical reading these two reviews, so I bought mine at the mall so I could return it when it didn't work.

I plugged it in and it works fine (M130, Windows XP). Perhaps the secret is to install the cradle and all the software, get that working and then swap out the cradle for this cable.

Not sure what the problem is... it does what it says on the box.

Mine was defective
I thought that this product was a good buy. 5 USB 2.0 ports, and works with a Macintosh. However, the card I got did not work with my mac (Beige G3 with revision B ROM). Keyspan says that it is defective. I decided to try a different brand. The IOGEAR GIC250U 5 port USB 2.0 card is also supposed to work with the mac.

Generally worked well on Mac OS 10.3 and Windows XP
I installed this card on a Mac Dual G4 running Mac OSX 10.3 and also on a Dell PC running Windows XP. On both machines it worked fine with no need to download drivers.

I did have a problem when I plugged a Zip drive (USB 1.1 device) into the card and put my Mac to sleep. It would not wake up. I don't know if this is a problem with the Iomega driver or USB card. The computer sleep function worked fine with the Zip plugged into the Mac's built-in USB 1.1 port. I've heard there can be some problems with some devices or cards not being compatable with the sleep function, but when I sent an e-mail to Keyspan tech support to ask about this, I never received an answer.

Works great in my G4 Mac
1) Shut down computer
2) Open computer case
3) Put anti-static-strap on wrist and clip to metal on computer case (important any time you fool around inside a computer)
4) Insert card
5) Close computer case
6) Boot up computer
Done.

Works just great on my G4 Mac. No drivers to install, nothing to download or adjust, no jumpers, no nothing. Plug it in and it works. Another good experience with Keyspan (and Apple) -- I will continue buying their stuff as long as they keep putting out good products. :)
