Useless - does not retract
I agree with the previous review. This phone cord worked twice. Now, it only retracts about half way, and keeps getting worse. I'm returning it for a refund. Don't waste your time with this.

DO NOT Wast your time with this product...period
I am on my second one and I will be returning this one also. Both of them worked once and then would not retract fully after that. I was so mad I almost threw it against the wall. I thought the first one was a defect, but then when I got the second one I realized it was a design flaw... If you buy the Targus one keep your receipt because I guarantee you will be returning it. What I don't get is how Targus has the guts to release this product and also put on it: Satisfaction Guaranteed. What a joke...

Must Have!
This is wonderful for laptop users that travel or like to move your laptop around a lot. If I leave my laptop somewhere I hate having to worry about tripping over wires and wires everywhere just look bad. This is really small and compact! Perfect for traveling too. I've used it for about 8 months now and it hasnt had one problem...it still recoils well!

    Major disappointment
I purchased this unit so that I could use my GPS with my new laptop (which did not come with a serial port). When the unit came, it was obvious that the drivers that came with it were not up-to-date. I went to the Tripp-Lite website and after a considerable amount of searching (they have simplified the navigation since this time) I finally found what was listed as an XP compatible driver. I installed it but a few weeks later when I used it (for more than a few minutes), it would blue-screen my computer about every 5-10 minutes. I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver but had no luck. Now the light on the unit will not come on no matter what I do. Looking at the web site, I noticed that the driver they list for XP is the same one listed for W2K. There is absolutely no install information or any kind of read me file available with the "XP" driver. The documentation that came with the unit is horrible. Worst of all, it is now past the 30 day limit and I cannot return the piece of junk. Avoid this device like the plague!!!

Would not work in Windows 2000 or ME
I tried two Windows 2000 machines and a windows ME machine but I could not get the drivers properly loaded an any case even after downloading the latest driver and disabeling the available serial ports. A new and better driver is needed to make this device usable.

    the best
this is the best... i use a lapton to a ISDN (serial only) conection... i use windows XP Pro sistem... well you only need to download the XP drivers... and read the online instructions to conect a modem to the lapton and you are online in minutes... be sure read the online instruction because if you don't do that you can't conect your modem.. well is a great product and is not expensive...

      Problems with Windows 2000 Professional
I was interested in making use of an extra hard drive I wasn't using, and realized that I could purchase a drive enclosure like this one and have a nice semi-portable storage device. So I did some research and learned that there are quite a few companies that manufacture them.

I purchased Iogear's version because of the perceived professionalism of Iogear's products (nice form factor, decent web site, etc.). Unfortunately, after receiving this device a few days ago, my experiences are mixed.

The installation of my extra hard drive into the enclosure was fairly simple. They have a nice little booklet that describes the process and all you need is a phillips head screwdriver. Once I got the drive in the enclosure, things went downhill.

There is a glaring error in the manual on how to install the software (it tells the user to double-click a setup file that's not even on the entire CD, let alone the root). Also, even though Windows 2000 detected the drive and started installing a driver, the driver was unsigned and after a mandatory reboot, I still could not access the drive. I then proceeded to do a whole series of Windows updates, as they suggest in the manual, and tried reinstalling the drivers, but still no luck.

I'm currently waiting for a response from Iogear on this issue. The problem reporting form on their web site has an ASP error (bad sign) so I emailed their "sales support" email address. We'll see if they respond in an appropriate amount of time and can resolve this issue.

Fortunately, all I had to do on my secondary computer (Windows Me) was to plug the drive into a USB port. Windows Me detected the drive, installed a generic driver (that didn't require the Iogear CD) and seconds later I was able to access the drive and copy files to and from it...even without a reboot!

In summary, this drive may have compatability issues with Windows 2000 but on a Windows Me system it worked fine (at least for me).

No Problem with Windows 2000 Professional
I wrote this review in response to another review about the "problem with Windows 2000 Pro". I had this IOGEAR GHE135U enclosure with my old hard drive (ATA66) with Windows 2000 Pro SP3, it has no problem at all. The Windows 2000 found it and installed it as "Disk Drive" at very first time when connecting it. About this, it is also clearly stated at its manual..."no driver need for ME, 2000, XP". The only thing I don't like is the extra external power adapter; however, I beleive it is a must in order to provide the extra voltages for the regular hard drive (12 Volt/5 Volt). I like the big switch in the front panel, which allow me to just turn if off (after I 'Stop' it at the OS) without need to unplug it.

        Gets easily cut
This gets very easily cut -- I don't recommend this. It becomes a waste of money. You really have to have a right temperature and humidity in the room.

Probably not the right cable for you
This cable has TWO FEMALE ENDS. This is very unlikely to be what you need, unless some special circumstance applies to you. Normal monitors have a femal attachment. Normal computers have a male attachment. Normal monitor cables have a male side and a female side. KVM switches mimic this, having a female attachment as a monitor would. Unless you have some unusual setup, find a different cable.

It Is A KVM Cable, Not A Monitor Cable
KVM Cables have 2 female ends because one end connects to the output of your video card and one end connects to the input of the KVM Switch, (both male). It is the proper setup for KVM switches, and most likely is what you're looking for if you have a KVM Switch.

          No verdict yet
I bought this to Hot Sync with a second PC. I haven't been able to get it to work yet. Have tried everything. My USB cradle worked with the unit and my PC with Windows XP, so I'm thinking it's something with the cable. Waiting to here from somebody else on the issue. I believe there's a misprint in the users manual about selecting "Direct Serial" connection. That's not even an option in the Hot Sync Manager. I have it set to "Cradle/Cable."

          Works fine for me
Perhaps the other guy got a defective cable. The cable worked right out of the box for me and continues to provide as designed synchronization.

Good, but no instructions for initiating a hotsync
The cable does what it's supposed to do, but I spent about an hr and a lot of mental energy trying to figure out how to initiate a hotsync. I've never had a portable hotsync cable, so I've always had a cradle which has a Hotsync button. There were no instructions, and the manufacturer, iconcepts, doesn't seem to have a website. So, I tried Handpring's website, and found in the FAQ section that all I needed to do was to start the Hotsync app on the Handspring, and tap the Hotsync symbol. I could have saved a lot of time if this was explained somewhere on the packaging.

            Cool concept, half-baked execution
This is an idea whose time has come. USB is ubiquitous, and mobile warriors have enough power bricks to carry around, such that eliminating a couple in favor of a more portable solution is worth its weight in gold.

Problem is when I received this item, the plug was too small for my Nokia 3650's AC input. I think the plug bundled with this kit is for smaller/older Nokias whose AC input is smaller.

But fear not! Keyspan will replace this for you, and send you the right plug. You can do this by emailing the support team at the product's website at ziplinq.com. They replaced it for me quickly, no questions asked.

Now it works like a champ! Too bad they didn't bundle all the right connectors in the first place though.

              More fragile than it seems
This cable works fine: no directions needed, and it automatically alerts the computer (at least it does mine: I use Apple's iPhoto) that the camera is plugged in, which means the necessary software is launched without any effort on the part of the user. What's more, if you own any of the excellent Sony Cybershot cameras, this is the only choice available for downloading photos to your computer.

But if you do use this, be sure to unplug the cable from the camera as soon as the download is complete. If you don't, you may learn as I did that the product has one design flaw: even a moderate amount of pressure on the camera with the plug still in could tilt the camera bend the end of the cable, pulling the metal part from the plastic and rendering the whole thing useless. Which explains why I'm on this page ordering a replacement.
