I live in a studio apt. in lower manhatten, and my laptop, which i use in my living room area, is not close to my HP printer, which is on a desk by the door. (about 12 feet away). using this cable i could have connect the printer to the laptop with out the need to disconnect the laptop from it's AC cable and take it to the printer each time i need to print. The cable works great and is quite fast and works great!

I had tried a many cables to connect my PC camera but they are all small, I need a big cable for my PC camera so that I can show my whole apt. to my parents and friends who is there in India. This brand cable is working just fine. I will recommend this cable who need a big cable.

I work as a business consultant and basically I spend my time traveling and out of the office. My appointments, tasks, and contacts change constantly, so its very important for me to synchronize periodically and FAST to my Outlook profile

The serial Cable does the job, but the speed is not comparable with USB Synchronization, specially if your loading a big file or an mp3 song.

I upgraded the hard drive of my laptop, and I bought this enclosure so that I can make good use of the old hard drive. Installation instructions are very clear and easy to do. It uses power supplied by the USB port. I plug it into a PC running Windows XP and it's automatically recognized! It supports USB 2.0, and it's very fast indeed. Highly recommended!

The enclosure is very easy to install. It looks very nice.

It's been 10 minutes after I posted my last review...

In that time, I have installed the latest software and updated the firmware. The two really took me about 5 minutes.

The update adds a nice feature for single-PC networks. If a device is labeled a single-user device, then you don't need to take control of it every time you want to use it.

I also found out that it is possible to boot others off the server (actually everyone).

If you go to the Admin tab on the server SW, and edit the server settings (something simple like a password change), it will reboot the hardware (not your PC), which will disconnect all shared devices. This is a rather brute-force approach, but the manual doesn't indicate any other way.

Even after an extra 10 minutes of use, I think this device is the best thing since a USB thumb drive (which you can connect to the server as well).

This thing is just TOO COOL!!!!

I opened the packing box 10 MINUTES AGO, and both of my printers are up and running on every PC.

I was a little worried when I saw the 'documentation' was smaller than a CD, but everything went off without a hitch:

Step 1: Power up the USB server with no USB device hooked up to it, and connect it to the network via RJ45.
Step 2: Install the software (if WinXP, use the unsigned drivers). Your OS searches the network at this time and finds the USB Server.
Step 3: Hook up your USB devices.

THAT'S IT!!!

If you have a Multi-Function printer, you NEED this device, because even if you find a compatible print server, it will only let you use the print function. A Printer Server turns your Multi-Function printer into a Uni-Function Printer.

With this device, it will be just as if the printer were directly connected to your PC. In fact, you are not limited to PCs; you can connect ANY USB device to it (camcorder, scanner, webcam, even a mouse or keyboard).

The ONLY advantage that a print server has over this device is that with a server, multiple PCs can control a target device at once (really, that's not quite true, since the requestes are put in a queue).

With the USB server, every PC uses a little administration program. When launched, it opens a window that lists all of the devices that are connected to the USB server. A PC on the network that wants to use a device (i.e. print) needs to first take command of that device. You just select the device by name, and hit the connect button. From that point on, it's as if the printer were plugged directly into your PC. Others trying to use the printer would see that you were subscribed to it; they would have to wait until you release the subscription - which you have to do manually.

They could really use a virtual queue that keeps checking until the subscription is open, then releases the subscription when the job is completed. The problem is that if the device isn't a printer, how does it know when the job is finished?

So, even if you have only one PC on the network, you need to request access to use the printer. On the (sort of) bright side, every time you power up the PC, it will remember who owns what. I think the memory is maintained in the USB Server itself, not the PC. So if a PC takes control of a device, then dies, cycling power on the server releases all devices.

This is a little hokey (they claim they MIGHT fix it in a later release) but it's 1000% better than losing printer functions you paid for. They have an 'Admin' panel on the software, but I don't think it currently lets you boot someone off of a device.

If you already installed the devices you want to share, then once you connect to the server, every device will show up by name. When you take control of one or more of the devices, Windows goes through the 'new device ready' popup.

If you haven't added the device to your PC, then the server will show a default name for the device. Once you take control of it, Windows will detect the PnP device, and start the 'add new hardware' wizard.

It's truly as if the USB server didn't exist, and you had a REALLY long USB cable.

I have a Canon i950 Photo Printer, and a Brother 9600 MFC.

The Brother is particularly painful in that it won't even work with most printer servers. In fact, Windows XP doesn't even have a dedicated driver for it; Brother has all but stopped supporting it.

I was highly skeptical, but the MFC's scanner worked right away. As for the Canon, I launched the Status Monitor, and was soon seeing I had to replace an ink cartridge. So, the USB server is bi-directional, too (most Print servers aren't).

It took me longer to write this review than it took me to get the server up and running.

I can't recommend this product highly enough!

I have Kodak Express El Fayrouz in Cairo-Egypt, I use digital

I own a kodak digital camera, and this was an absolute necessity to transfer my images to my PC. Now I can share my precious photos across the internet, and print directly from Kodak's easy interface! None of this would have been possible without this cable.

I got the 32 MB Lexar and the Jumpcable free with the purchase of a Canon S100. It is a great combination. One can also use it to download a series of shots from the PC to review on TV through the camera!. I have a Viking 32 MB for my Pocket PC and it does not work with the reader, making me wish I had known that not all CF cards can do the USB trick!

We have this exact Lexar card and just love it. The best thing is the Jumpshoot cable which hooks to any computer with a USB port (hot-swappable). Instead of hooking your camera up to your computer, you can simply take the card out of your camera and insert it in the Jumpshot Cable's slot. Then, the CF card shows up on you computer as if it were a hard drive. You simply copy them to you own hard drive. In the meantime your camera can be in use or simply saving power. (Note: The Jumpshot Cable does come with some software so it will work on your computer-PC or Mac.)

In addition, Lexar is know among pro photographers as one of the better quality manufacturer's. Great Quality and a Great Product.

The more megapixels you have, the higher the resolution pictures you take, the longer it takes to store your images to your memory card. That's a good rule to keep in mind when you are buying CompactFlash (CF) cards.

When I was shopping for CF I noticed the claims by Lexar with their x4, x8, and x10 speed CF. I researched a bit on digital photography forums and found that people either stood by the Lexar brand or said "don't believe the Lexar hype".

After I did a bit more research and found a couple websites that objectively completed a side-by-side comparison of all brands, speeds, and sizes of CF, the choice was clear - Lexar is faster. It might not be a true x4, x8, x10, but there is a clear speed improvement across the board over all other CF brands.

If you only use your digicam to take a picture here and there, feel free to buy any other brand of CF. If you need or want the flexibility to take multiple high-resolution snapshots rapidly (like lot's of candid family shots or when you're at a sporting event) then you'll find that's where Lexar's speedy CF shines.

The review I read stated that you can only use the USB cable with the Lexar card. Well of course you can only use it with the Lexar card! It was never designed to be a general purpose card reader! I had one of the first 8X 80 meg cards that Lexar put up for sale. After about a year I got another 32 meg 8X card from Lexar. It was at that point that I discovered that my 80 meg card was really pretty slow. I wrote Lexar about my little problem. Lexar gave me a brand new 80 meg 8X USB enabled card for free! That is what I call great service. I now have four seperate Lexar cards. The only problem I have ever had was quickly resolved by Lexar. If one wants a general purpose card reader, they only cost about $40. In my opinion, Lexar cards are the best in the business.

Got this mickey mouse webcam for only several bucks when it came with a $40 rebate several months ago. Very satisfied. Clear, sharp images. A+!

This is a great webcam. I bought it with Christmas money at Circuit City, and it came with a rebate. I've had it since the day after Christmas - and not only is it cute, but it's got great quality. The internet video "conferencing" is clear - though not perfect, it's about the best you can get for under a hundred - which is still great. Everyone I webcam chat with online commends on how great my cam is, and the still-pictures it takes are surprisingly good. It also takes several seconds of video (which I've mostly used on my sleeping cat), which is nice. It doesn't disattach from the computer, so you're limited to as far as the cord can reach. I have frontal USB ports on my computer, and the cord is long enough that it reaches across a little more than half of my bedroom. I have it on the monitor, and the stand is very cute as well. To adjust it, there's a long slot at the bottom of the cam and a peg on the stand - so you can slide it up and down or back and forth as you please. I've been waiting to get a cam for a long time, as my boyfriend lives long-distance - and I'm totally satisfied with this one. My friends have webcams that were the same price or more, but terribly less quality. Also, it comes with the cutest and most creative photo software I've seen. It's not for serious photo editing, but rather fun editing (you can add animated borders, scenes, characters, etc). My friend and I sat here for hours when I first got it playing with the program. Overall a great cam - I recommend it to anyone who wants one and isn't bothered by Mickey Mouse on their monitor.

I got this to upgrade my Windows 98 SE computer to USB 2.0. I had been told by many people that I would have a very hard time getting it to work because of the age of my computer,however I had it installed and running in fifteen minutes. The directions were clear and best of all I didn't have to take out my old USB 1.1 hub so I now have nine USB ports. I highly recomend this USB card.
