Great choice for a novice
7760 vs 7960 vs i900dI originally was going to buy the 7960 but since I do not do a lot of B + W and the larger LCD was not a big issue for me I decided to try out the 7760. I just brought it home and set up was a breeze, basically you just plug it in. I did have a question though and call HP technical help, got threw in a matter of minutes, the tech was nice and helpful. I printed a few prints and am impressed by the quality of the photos. It's a nice looking printer and I like the fact it's a little smaller then the 7960. Still too new to tell for the long hull but so far it's a keeper!

Brother HL-1850
Brother HL-1850 a Winner w/ Mac OS X.2.x1) Original printer did not print from Safari (worked w/ all other apps & browsers). Brother determined I had an early model w/ outdated ROM; overnighted a new printer w/ paid return shipping for the old. Ensure any Brother printer has the latest ROM.
2) Had initial problems printing complex .pdf files. A 128 MB RAM card solved it. Most RAM cards run $50. With Google you can get one delivered to your door for $25.
Bottom line. I couldn't be happier and suggest that duplex printing will save you 33% of operating costs (paper). Getting a full toner cartridge (vice a 50% charge) with the original printer is also nice.

Nice Prints But.....
Great pictures, some hassles(Canon also confuses the consumer by selling 4x6 sheets of paper without ink cartridges. These are for use in other printers, not this one. So beware! There is no ink cartridge included, they are just a tetch too large to go in this printer, and they won't work in it--but they are displayed right next to these printers in every store I looked in.)
The aggravation of the paper and ink cartridges aside, the printer makes beautiful prints. My regular HP printer prints very good pictures except in black and other dark color areas. So I use this Canon printer to print those which the other printer doesn't do so well on. I had no problem getting the software installed and this printer working from my computer.
Most of my pictures will be taken with my old Canon Ae1 and printed with Kodak Perfect Touch processing but my digital pictures will be printed on this printer when I need quality prints from them.
convenience vs. price

Good but no linux supportI've been very pleased. The cartridges are really cheap and it has been completely reliable. It doesn't take up much desk room and it is overall just a "neat" shape. There is a very nice feature where it allows you to see exactly what is going to the printer before sending it (a more "true" preview than what the text processing tools provide.) I always have this on so I don't print extra blank pages at the end, etc. Another neat thing is doing 2-up or 4-up printouts if I want to condense a boring document with large text size.
I'm thinking of buying a second for home. My only hesitation is that it won't run under RedHat Linux. My Linux box won't even boot if it sees the Canon on the USB port.
I' ve printed Retail Grade DVD covers, but burned out headbelieves a customers disabled and acts accordingly. I would buy another printer/scanner again because they know and believe that I am disabled and need special help. I would have given it 5 stars but this printer eats a lot of ink with very small ink holding cartridges of 9 ml(B) 1.5ml(color), with 30 ml to equal 1 *ounce*.
Precise, flexible and quickScanning of documents or photos includes a preview feature with zoom, allowing you to see what the output will look like. And while being previewed, the photo or document can be cropped, resized, rotated and rescaled. A soft-focused photo image can be sharpened, and I can even adjust the color tones, contrast and brightness. The resulting color output was better than in the photos I scanned.
The OCR software on the installation CD works perfectly. And because the F20 is a flatbed copier, I can scan pages of bound books into the computer, then edit and save them as Word documents, which is saving me a huge amount of time and expense.
The setup sheet made installation extremely easy and problem-free. And the other documentation - the basic manual and the online software guide - are clearly written and well designed, so the machine's various functions are easy to learn. (And there are a LOT of functions.)
Altogether a top shelf piece of equipment!

Do not buy HP 2000Cse Pro PrinterFurther, they have never developed a full-featured driver for Windows 2000. I have made numerous requests as to when it will be ready and I can only get answers like "It's not ready yet, but I think they are working on it."
A+ for speed, quality, economy & support
VERY pleased with this printerI was fortunate to have a painless installation experience both on a local port and later when I added a JetDirect external print server for my little home-office "workgroup".
In draft mode (where I do most of my printing) the print quality is good and the machine is acceptably fast in either BW or color. Switch over to "best" mode and you have laser-like output sharp enough to lacerate your corneas. Color photos reproduced on this printer using the appropriate photo quality paper are nearly indistinguishable from snapshots of the same size, though don't expect film quality 8 by 10's unless you are using a 3 megapixel camera.
HP's JetAdmin and WebJetAdmin software utilities, available on hp's printers and imaging web pages, are really nice management tools if you network your printer either via printer sharing or using an external print server (I use the economical JetDirect 170X whose 10mB speed, though not top of the line, is more than adequate for the home office user). I recommend those as well.
I have a different view of the separate-color-cartridge setup than another reviewer here who intensely disliked his HP printer experience. I think it makes sense. The cartridges are high capacity; nevertheless I have already had to replace my black cartridge, not surprising given heavy office usage. I did not get to dead empty so I can't say whether the printer would have refused to do anything else without the replacement. I have had the printer for nearly a year and have not had to replace any of the color cartridges. I like the idea that one replaces only what one uses; in my case I would have tossed an all-color cartridge with the colored inks not even half-used, a waste which surely I am paying for somewhere down the line.
Bottom line: great printer, great value. I have owned many HP products and they have never failed to live up to my expectations. I have sought service from HP and that, too, has been more than satisfactory. I don't expect tech support people to get it right first time every time, but I do expect them to keep plugging away at it, and that service level is what I have received from HP.

MAC Users - Get the Latest Driver from HP Support1. It set up fine and showed the printer in the OSX printers window.
2. It tested itself fine in the Test and WOW! mode, printing its specimen pictures using the Powerbook
3. Trying to print a picture from Photoshop CS, caused the Adobe program to ABORT.
4, Trying to print a picture from Preview, caused the Apple program to ABORT.
5. Trying to print a picture from iPhoto caused the Apple program to ABORT.
I returned the printer the next day to Circuit City, even though it cost me a 15% restocking fee. They were selling old stock, with out-dated drivers.
I then went to Cosco, and bought the (High-End) $299 HP Printsmart 7960 Printer on sale for $179. It has the latest CD with the correct driver. This printer works as it should.
In talking with the HP Support person, I found a day later, that I could have downloaded the new driver from their site, but the store people had no clue that this would be a problem for Macintosh. They speak PC, not Mac.
And with the way it uses ink, I estimate that I will equal the price of the printer in 4 sets of ink cartridges, in about a month. They should sell the printers for free, and make their money on the ink cartridges.
*****PERFECT PICTURES AND VERSATILE*****A- Picture Quality- It can't be beat! I went to the trouble of printing three pictures from the HP 7660 and compared them to the same prints I received from a well know photo lab from Bentonville, Arkansas (started by a guy named Sam). The clarity and realism are identical; perfect pictures.
B- Versatility- I wanted a photo printer that would serve as a document printer as well. It does both. And unlike the SONY X5 that doesn't print documents nor any other photo size other that a 4X6, this printer does it all. And for those that whine about having to interchange ink cartridges to print photos versus documents; so what! It takes (not an exaggeration) less than 5 seconds. HP even gives you secure cradle to rest the dormant ink cartridge in until it's ready to be used.
C- Price-- Compared to other photo printers, the price is exceptional. It will pay for itself in memories, gifts, entertainment, and convenience in no time. $150.00 is VERY reasonable.
I wanted professional picture results. I wanted to print documents. I wanted a fair price. The HP 7660 gave me everything I wanted. I am OVERLY satisfied. No hang-up on installation. No problems whatsoever. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.
Awesome PhotosI have a 2 year old printer at home printing digital photos at 2400x1200 dpi. I printed the same photo on both my old printer and the hp 7660 at max resolution and wow the colors in the hp printer are more vivid and accurate. The photo felt more life like, similar to film prints.
The draw backs are you can not refill the ink cartridges, and you have to switch between black and the photo cartridges. It is slow printing text pages compared to a dual roll printer like a deskjet.
In summary if you want a great photo printer at a reasonable price this one is it, if you want to print say 24 page documents all the time buy another printer. This was designed to be a photo printer, not a document printer.

- 4,800 x 1,200 dpi maximum color resolution

canon can!!after reading a few favourable reviews i opted for the canon 350 which cost me £69 (+ £8 for a usb lead) it took me a matter of minutes to install and the results were not just great but wow. to buy a colour and black ink will cost me about £18 as opposed to the £40 or so for the epsom. only down side is that it's a little noisey compared to the epsom.
to summarise
* very cheap printer
*Excellent qaulity for any price but for £69 its as steal!
* looks good
* cheap ink
*cheap printer
* well known name
* a little noisey ( prepared to put up with it!)
*did i mention that it is cheap!
Great Value PrinterThe set up was a breeze. I print a lot of articles from online webpages and the quality is great. I do not use it for pictures though so I cannot talk about that aspect.
What is great is that the ink lasts a while and you can get cheap refills when you need it, I usually get a generic at a local office supplies store or online whichever has the best deal going.
And finally buying it at an auction makes it an even sweeter deal since you only pay a fraction of the retail price and most come new. You do need to buy a seperate USB printer cable. You can also get it at an online auction for cheap.
Yes it is a bit noisy, it has a "pre and post printing noise", but that does not bother me since it does a good Job and saves me money.
Great printer, great buyCompared with my old HP inkjet, this printer is just as easy to set up, the quality of the output is just as good, the noise when preparing to print is no greater, and the speed is a huge improvement. The same might be true of a new HP of course, but I'm amazed at how quickly text prints in draft mode. It fits nicely in the small space I have available, where the output tray can be hidden away when I'm not printing, allowing me to fully open a door next to my desk. If I wanted, I could fit this nicely on the computer tower also, not the case for the HP I would have chosen otherwise.
My only difficulty was a moment of confusion installing the printer. After installing the print driver (no problem), the installer for optional printer software said to uninstall any previous versions. I had software installed to import images from my Canon digital camera, and it wasn't clear whether that needed to be removed and replaced based on the onscreen messages. Since I simply wanted to use this printer to print text, didn't need the optional software, and didn't really feel like spending time with tech support, I simply skipped the optional software. If you have other Canon hardware and don't want to skip this step, you may have to do a little research first.

Great, except for the clunking sounds! One other thing - after you press print, there is a (longer than I'm used to) delay before it actually prints. This can be annoying if you need to print a bunch of different documents in a hurry.
I do think the picture quality is right up there with the Epson Photo printers. If only HP would make their inks last as long as Epson! Overall, nice printer except for the clunking.
The true work horse with minor bugs & great performancethe printer 4 1/2**** and am in the process of buying a second.
The construction is sturdier than the 5650 and even 960.
The printer memory is amazing. I will print 40 pages. Nothing will come out at first and then they start flying. The quality,
especially for text letters at Best is like laser. Color
quality: I have a picture of my feline and it is superb.
Bugs that may be related to my CPU include having the printer go off line. This is easily fixed. I just delete the pages
in the que, reboot, reenter the pages being printed and off
we go. I have XP Home. The 6122 is quite at home with it.
Generic cartridges work fine. Have a box in front for when the printer gets going, pages fly out.
The 6122 eliminated slight negatism re: HP old laser jamming.
While not as easy to find in stores or on sale much, the
6122 is worth list price plus. I am mystified over some
of the criticisms. The 6122 is not the most space age
stylish model. It is a Clydesdale. Now I will get a new HP Amdahl or Intel CPU to go along with it. Buy the 6122
and use your worries elsewhere. This is almost as reliable as my Honda Accord.

Depends on CD or DVD you are printing on.
Fine If You Seek A No-Frills CD Printing ExperienceGraphics tend to look particularly rotten, no matter how high the dpi of the image is. I am non-amazed at how an outline of a rectangle, made in bold, thick lines and saved at 1200 dpi, comes out looking like mud. This printer is best at simpler jobs.
The printer does its work quickly, which is good. I've had to bat out 50 or 60 CDs in an afternoon, and the printer is faster than I am with the discs!
THE SINGLE BIGGEST DRAWBACK to this and to other Casio CD printers are those @$(^@_^_@!~ ribbons. The ribbons hold exactly 40 prints. If you use 2 per CD, that means a fresh ribbon after every 20 discs. The ribbons are not sold in office supply stores. CompUSA carried them for a brief time, then moronically deleted them. And don't even think about OfficeMax, -Depot or Staples. The cheapest I've found the ribbons is here, at $7.00 apiece, or sometimes on eBay for less. I am always "counting bullets" with these infernal ribbons. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING GETTING ONE OF THESE, TAKE THIS TO HEED: the ribbons are a supreme pain in the ass. They are hard to locate, expensive, and wastefully manufactured. The greedy souls at Casio could easily get another 20-50 prints' worth of ribbon on the cartridges.
As well, the ribbons often have flaws in their manufacture, making for fuzzy half-coverage of some prints.
I am probably making this printer sound worse than it really is. As said, if your ambitions are simply to have a title printed in regular type, without much ado, this will do the trick. If you seek anything more complex, you'll need a bigger and better machine.
