Great Value!! Good job Epson!!
Epson CX5400 Rocks! This badboy copies, prints and scans just like the older CX5200 model that was discontinued by Epson but it also does borderless printing and its quiet!!!
See http://www.epson.com/ for full specs.
SETUP - a breeze, open up the box, remove all that funky tape, plug it in, insert the 4 cartridges, flip that scanner lock switch, install the software, plug in the usb port. Took me 5 minutes, no problems at all.
NOISE - Only noise this unit makes is when its first turned on, it initalizes and does all kinds of stuff, takes 2 mins, when its idle, its whisper quiet. When it prints, there is only the humm of paper being printed, not loud at all, the CX5200 made a horrible sound when it printed, they fixed it in this unit.
SPEED - print speed is very fast, b&w or color - no waiting for it to catch up. i printed 20 pages that came out before my coffee was even cold. Best photo printing is the slowest mode as expected, so be patient.
OUTPUT - paper comes out dry, text is rich and clean, looks like a laser printer. color is very sharp and crisp, no problems here. this unit does 8 1/2x11 borderless printing too, amazing. 5700x1440 dpi is very nice and durabrite ink comes out dry.
SCANNING - it scans 1200x2400 dpi @ 48bit which in english means your color or b&w scans will come out exactly as the original, i scanned a magazine page and my keys, no blurs or distortion at all, job well done epson.
COPYING - you dont need the pc to do copying, it does color and b&w copying just like a real copier would, enlargments/reductions/lighten or darken the image and zoom and # of copies, its all there. the scanning are is too small to handle legal size paper, but i dont think any of the multifunction printers can.
CONCLUSION - i give it a 5 stars, the CX5200 had paper loading problems-fixed here, it also had slow photo printing-fixed here. This unit also displays the ink levels in printer config or control panel and ink is a **lot** cheaper and lasts longer than any of the HP mfc's.
DISLIKES - only things for epson to work on, makes the power cord removeable to the unit so its easier to feed under a desk, put the usb port in back of the unit so the cable doesn't get bent, make the control panel on the printer a little bigger, and maybe add a sleep mode so it will use less electricity when idle for 10 mins or more.
There are tons of options to set in printer config, too many to explain here. Epson came out with this CX5400 model and the CX6400 model, personally, the CX6400 looked huge to me, 23" wide and wouldn't fit on my desk.
Still waiting for a review from zdnet or pcworld, wonder whats taking them so long ?
CX5200 and CX5400 uses the same ink carts...epson says black will last 1000 pages, and color around 300 pages give or take a few. I can tell you from experience, the HP2210 lasted 35 color pages and about 70 black.
Good job Epson... HP should be ashamed for charging twice the price for the same features and way overcharging for ink cartridges.
I dont work for Epson, Amazon or HP, so you know this review is honest!!
Great printer for a MacPrint quality is excellent. When I print color documents, the colors are even truer than the ones I print on the expensive fiery machine at the office. (Haven't tried photo printing yet, as I'd rather do that online or at Costco.) Photocopying is easy. And I just tried the scanner today and it was so easy it was scary. I have Photoshop, so I import the document from there and save it to my hard drive.
I'm sorry that a few other people have had negative experiences, but I'm extremely happy with this all-in-one.

Ink Sucking Box on my Desk20 8"x10" prints = $100+ in ink. Epson would give this printer away for free, but they're smart enough to know that buyers would suspect a catch. I know - charge the buyer for the printer AND continually drain there wallets in ink expenses.
Epson doesn't make money on printers- they make money on repeat sales of ink. To make more money on ink they make a printer that blows through it. A WIN-WIN for Epson! Hoo-ray Epson!
Oh....but like I said, it does print nice...but should't it anyway?
Has its good points but the bad points outweight them.1) excellent print quality on both paper and CD/DVD media.
2) Has card readers built in and ability to capture directly from it's own USB port from devices such as a digital camera.
3) card port can be used in passthrough so it acts just like a normal card reader.
4) fairly quiet overall.
5) not a bad price for the printer itself and you can get the R200, same printer without card reader basically for about $100.
But the Cons:
1) Ink costs a fortune for it and I have yet to find a generic ink that will work all that well in it. Carts are very difficult to refill.
2) Sucks up ink like cheap wine. It prints light compared to some printers so you have to set it to darken the print, using more ink in the process, if you want a true to color picture and the ink drops rapidly.
3) When you replace a cart it drops the others by about 1/10 of the meter for no reason at all. Once more way for epson to milk more ink money out of you.
4) reports ink is out far before its really gone, forcing you to use a third party utility to trick it into letting you use all your ink, and that utility can damage the printer if you aren't careful with it.
5) I've noticed some streaking from the black head on almost every cover I've printed.
6) It likes to catch the front corners of the paper and ink them black by accident. I guess because it doesn't secure the front edge before printing. This may be why I'm getting streaking too. its possible the black head is screwed up from the corners of paper poking into it.
7) takes forever to power on when you want to use it.
8) Draft printing is horrible. It comes out very light, unlike the HPs which still look good in draft mode.
Overall it gives good prints but has too many drawbacks for me. I've gotten to just using it for DVD/CD and some photo work. I'll get an HP for text and other photo work and save the fortune I'm spending in overpriced short lived ink.

solid performerWeaknesses:
Hard to see display in bright outdoors. Batteries go fast. slightly confusing access to Image Display and Capture Menu. The Capture Mode more confusing than handy. Limited shots at high resolution
Summary:
I have enjoyed using this camera, my first digital. I find it easiest to use this camera as a basic "point and shoot" I hardly use the Live Image Display although tempted to. It's fun to play cinematographer, but It burns out the batteries too fast.
I don't mess around too much with the Capture Mode option's offered; shoot Micro, Landscapes, Portraits, or Action. My technique is too spontainious for me to set the mode every time I want a shot.
More functional is the capture menu, not the easiest to locate and manipulate when you want to modify a shooting mode, but helpful when an artistic effect is desired. Items from the Capture Settings Menu that I use; The White Balance feature is good to be aware of, for example, If I shoot in the shade mode, even in bright daylight,I don't worry about backlighting. I also like the Saturation feature, nature can be Psychidelic. I leave all the other options to the default (auto) mode. I skip things like EV Compensation, although well laid out in the manual, it is too much to recall on the verge of a picture, the default (auto) mode will take a good picture.
Another Menu, the Playback Menu allows you to review your thumbnails, delete or rotate your images.
I guess I have to buy a memory card if I wish to shoot in only the 3.2MP mode. I only get 8 shots in the highest quality mode. The lowest setting is most memory efficient at 80+ pictures. 14-18 pictures in middle setting is respectable. Next stop? 5MP maybe a digital SLR
1800 photos in 3 monthsIf you invest in this camera buy rechargable batteries and extra memory. Plan on this with ANY digital or you will be unhappy with the result. I have used three other digital cameras of different MB capabilities and by different makers...the same is true with them.
This camera has a top display that is not on any other camera in this price range. Very easy to change flash/mode/quality settings without turning on back screen. A definate plus. Saves battery and time.
This camera is a little slow but it is not anything a little patience can not handle. It just takes a little getting used to. There is a setting to take several pictures quickly. I have not had the need to use this feature, but, it may help with those hard to catch quick moments if the need arrises.
The camera is also quicker if the flash is not on. Pictures do turn out better without flash and when not applicable I advise turning it off.
The colors on this camera are GORGEOUS. They are very vibrant and bright. I advise having a photoediting program however with any digital for even BETTER pictures. A small adjustment may be all the difference you need to make a picture that's too dark and useless to the best picture you took all day. Get the best out of your digital!
There are better cameras, but be prepared to pay. This is a great camera for what it is and for the money. Take it from someone whose in the visual field. Some reviewers seem very biased about this camera. Again be prepared to buy rechargable batteries and additional memory with ANY digital camera.

look out!!!!!!!!!!
It is a great printer than scans and copiesMost of the complaints I see here seem to be a problem of unrealistic expectations. This unit is NOT a fax machine. You can scan something into your computer and fax it using a modem but that's another story. This unit is NOT a laser printer nor is it a high end photo printer. It is also NOT a stand alone copying machine. It is printer that scans and copies.
I found the installation to be simple - follow the instructions that come with it and you'll be fine - be careful aligning the print cartridges (its easy but just don't blow it off) and the print quality will be significantly better. I installed the software and was a little worried when I went to print the first time and the familiar print setup page was replaced with a huge assortment of options. My worry was quickly replaced with excitement - you can store your printing preferences! If you are like me you don't need to print every webpage in beautiful color, its a waste of time and ink, so I have a setting for Black & White Draft, works like a charm.
Now I must admit that the black and white printing is not any better than my old Lexmark - inkjets are inkjets. The color and picture quality though is significantly better. Using the best printing option on photo paper it was hard to tell it came from an inkjet. I have found the photocopying and scanning to be nice and clear as well.
Overall I'm very pleased with this space saving printer.

Good printer but note the consThe printer is fast when actually printing (there is periodic cycling time for print head cleaning). It is noisier than other printers, but although I am very sensitive to noise I don't find it as annoying as other reviewers have observed. But I wouldn't want to be in a room with more than one C62.
When placing envelopes care must be taken that the slide is tight against the left side of the envelope or the address might come out slightly crooked. For placing sheets, I find the C62 slightly more inconvenient than it was in my old Epson 740. Since I use several different letterheads and qualities of paper, I am constantly putting 8.5 x 11 sheets on and off the machine. My 740 was a snap, but on the C62 I sometimes have to fiddle a bit more to get the paper to lay properly. That is no problem for someone who uses the same paper most of the time.
Overall, I am satisfied with this printer even though ink usage appears higher than I would like. I don't know how other printers stack up against the price figures of my estimate.

Great product! For this price, this printer is a dream. I do admit though it is quite noisy and it takes a minute or so to print a 4 x 6 glossy photograph but these are not issues for me.

7350 Highs and LowsWe get fast prints on lower resolutions. Very fast. Occasional printing gives good, vibrant colours on affordable photos. Under Windows XP Professional, printing, and the software control options, have been generally reliable, though not cheap. We had problems with earlier Windows and USB versions. If the 7350 went offline, we couldn't get it back without a hard reset. It's all fine until you use it every day, and, a lot. Running costs are high. And now, it's started printing in pink. So it's OK for the occasional home user. Don't rely on any ink-jet printer for business. Running costs, and hassle, have consigned our 7350 to the kids' room. It just proves that pre-printed documents are better, cheaper, and more reliable than using ink-jets. Any time. Our 7350 is a smart, occasional, photo-printer, excellent for fast text prints. That's all.
Great for photos, easy to setup and useThe prints I have made from my digital camera are fantastic. I have printed out both 4x6 and 8x10. Many of the people who have seen my prints from the 7350 couldn't tell that they were from a digital camera.
The setup is very easy. I had it connected to my PC and running in less than 5 minutes. The photo software that comes with the printer is very good. It is easy to use but also has a lot of more advanced features.
The printer isn't perfect. The 7350 holds 2 print cartridges, one for the tricolor cartridge and one for the photo or black cartridge. The printer comes with a tricolor and photo, but no black. I print out non-photo documents as much as photos, so it is a bit of a hassle to have to switch the black and photo cartridges.
Another issue is the size of the printer. The 7350 is considerably larger than my previous HP color inkjets and takes up a lot of desk space. If you have a crowded desk, I'd measure first to be sure you have the space.
Overall I am very happy with my purchase and the photo prints look great.
Quiet, easy to use - and the photos look fantastic! The unit comes with 57(color) and 58(photo) cartridges that are about 1/3 full. If you want to use this as a regular ink jet as well, you'll have to buy a #56 black ink cartridge. It also comes with a few sheets of glossy photo paper to get you started.
The photos that come out of this printer look as though they were professional printed, with high resolution (of course, the resolution of your digital camera has a lot to do with this) and a clean look. The printing itself is rather slow, especially if you are used to a laser printer as I am, but the results are well worth it.
I highly recommend this printer to anyone with a digital camera. You won't regret it.

100% Dislike it . . .
sudden deathI have been searching and searching for another 740 in a resonable price range and hope to find a new or refurbished one from a reputable source. I have not found one, only the new c40, c60 etc. which are compatible with comuters with usb and parellel while my mac performa has printer port and scsi.
I am totally dissalusioned with Epson for not standing behind their 740 which appears to be obsolete by 2 yrs. I think their color is superb. If they would change their design of the print heads or whatever we would most likely have no problem for many years. It appears to me that this 740's sudden death was meant to be. Just think of the new Epson printers that will be sold to take their place. I will think long and hard and investigate Epson's design of stylus color printers before I purchase one of their new ones... Jewel B
New it's great, Ill followup when the warranty expires
