Great machine with a serious feature omission - Beware
The K60 is a great machine in many ways but, and this is a big BUT... HP purposely left out a very important feature that the machine is entirely capable of. Black and White copying! That's right... if you put in ANYTHING with color on it and press copy, you will get a much more expensive and slower color copy. This works out great for HP because it uses lot's more of their expensive color ink, but not for the user. Try copying a sheet of yellow note paper with a few handwritten notes and prepare for a rather slow copy that uses a lot of the yellow ink in your color cartridge!

This is completely inexcusable considering the less expensive T45 does both color and B&W copies. It has a B&W copy button and a color copy button. You wouldn't think that moving up to one of HP's more expensive multifunction models would mean the loss of an important feature would you?

If you're going to be doing a lot of copying, think twice about this machine. Of course, the K80 has the same B&W Copy button that the T45 does, but do you really want to spend another $100 for a feature that any reasonable person would assume should already be in the K60? In case you're wondering, there is no menu option to enable B&W copying in the K60, it just isn't there. I have verified this with HP's tech support who find this missing feature equally baffling.

For this reason, I can't give it more than a three. I'd give it a 2.5 if I could.

K60 or K80?
I have seen previous reports on K60, and decided to buy a K80, with TWO COPY BUTTONS, black and colour copy.
The machine is not intuitive to use, but it does what you would expect, with two advantages against K60: modem speed, and black copy key.
It has a major problem wich most users will not detect!
It works well when driven by HP suplied software, but if we try to scan from MS Office XP "image scanning" and some other aplications, the machine scans only the first page, ejecting all the others, forcing us to feed the document page by page by hand.
Quite frustrating for a machine with a 20 page feeder.
It will became a great machine with a new modem and a driver patch, unfortunately not available for the moment.

Great machine at the right price.
The K60 is an excellent printer, fast, clean and quiet. Its fax features are excellent, with the 14.4 kbs fax-modem allowing for 6 seconds per page faxing. The scanning clarity and speed is among the best of any sheetfed unit I've seen, and copying with and without enlargement is also pretty darned amazing at this price. However, what really makes the whole pkg so nice is the software that runs quietly in the background and only pops up when needed. When it makes its appearance, it really simplifies whatever task you're working on and obviates the need for any kind of manual. (A slightly faster printer with 3 seconds per page faxing is available as the model K80)

yuck, yuck, yuck!
i guess you get what you pay for. i bought this printer when i was in a bind with little money to spend. i wish i had spent the extra 40 bucks or so to get a decent epson. actually, nowadays, you can get a great epson for a comparable price to this class of lexmarks!

this printer had no internal memory and it's like a turtle on downers when it comes to print speed, despite what it claims. i NEVER got it to print text at over 2 pages per minute. NEVERMIND high quality. printing at high quality from adobe illustrator or photoshop took an average of 20 minutes per page! this was maddening! as a freelance graphic artist, i have worked with and recommended many printers to my clients. at <$150, i love the epson color 880. fast and accurate and cheap. the printer software for lexmark is SO AWFUL that it alone should convince you to go with another manufacturer, like epson or HP.

i now use an HP 990cxi, purchased from amazon. it is close to $300 and is excellent. if you must stay in the lower price range though, check out HP and epson instead. the only reason i even gave this 2 stars is because i am giving it to my mother-in-law and i am sure it will be fine for printing her emails and word documents. anything more, choose another company!

It is cheap for a reason!
The ink cost more than the printer! Although it is rather fast for the price and was pleased with it initially, we now have problems with it. It locks up the computer and often won't even print. This may be a problem somewhere else in the system, but either way, the cartridges for this thing are so [] expensive you might as well save the money and buy a more expensive printer with cheaper cartridges. i would not recommend this to anybody! it is a stupid buy. ... With that amount of money, we could have bought a brand new photo printer. As a matter of fact, when it came to buy ink for the second time in a few months, we said forget and bought a whole new printer, a canon...

Good medium duty home printer
My ageing Canon printer finally "bit the dust" several months ago, and I was anxious to replace. Having worked with the more commercial "laser" versions of HP and Lexmark printers, I reviewed price / performance, making sure to consider consumable costs, ability to print on multiple paper types and sizes, etc. The Lexmark Z42 won hands-down. Easy to use, easy to change cartridges, good support and reliability are all attributes that this little workhorse brings to the table.

My first "cartridge change" exposed me to Lexmark's support via their "chat client". I had a defective cartridge, contacted Lexmark, who walked me through problem determination and then resolved the problem, and sent a replacement cartridge. Good experience.

The printer seems to handle most all paper types, and easily prints labels and envelopes. I've also used the printer to produce high-quality images on photo paper.

Perhaps the only down side are the printer drivers. When I first installed, I used Win98, and was happy with the driver. When I converted to WinXP, I had a few problems, which required download of additional drivers (which have been updated since then). There is some loss of functionality from Win98 to WinXP drivers.

Overall, the printer is a good value and recommended!

Instant portable photo fun!
After a day of taking digital photos, I always have to rush home and print them. Now that slight problem is being solved with instant printers! With Polaroid's brand name and cheap price on this printer, I had to get it and try it.

And wow, I'm impressed. This package comes with everything you need to get started! Even an extra adapter and film so you can print right out of the box. The setup is easy and the instructions are made so you can stick it on the printer if you forget. What's great is that the printer accepts BOTH CF and SM cards. Now you can give photos away to people and they will be surprised at how you printed them so fast and because the picture source is from a digital camera you can select what photos you wanted printed and how many times.

The quality of the photos are superb just like those instant Polaroids everyone used to have, this prints a smaller rectangular verison with the photo about the size of a credit card; great wallet prints! The coloring of the film however seems to be a bit more on the magenta side if you dont have long-distance flash. Other than that, the printer itself requires no batteries and has a convenient strap so you can carry it everywhere you go. The printer is shaped nicely you can hold in your hand and the weight is light enough to carry with your digital camera.

I would definitely recommend getting this product! You can't find a better deal with the rebate offer!

Neat little unit
For the price, size and quality its more novelty than serious printer, but its a good sort of novelty.

Pictures are small, but are on par with any other polaroid style camera. Good for scrapbooking, or checking images off LCD for digicams etc.

I bought mine in the hope it'd work with my P800 cell phones infrared, it didn't. Works fine with my nikon coolpix though.

The manual in mine says shoulderstrap included, however on the box it says it isn't,and it wasn't, not really a big deal though.

Haven't had a chance to see how easy it is to pickup film yet, but given its compatible with the joycam it should be reasonable easy.

The interface is ok, its a little terse but once you see where they were going its perfectly acceptable.

Prints come out fast, take a little while to appear.

What a gadget!
The P-500IR is a stand-alone printer that outputs digital images onto P-500 Joycam instant film. It's "stand-alone" in that it doesn't have any direct connectivity to a computer, and it takes images from CompactFlash or SmartMedia cards (the latter requiring an included adapter). Since there is no preview screen on the unit (the thing runs on the embedded P500 film pack battery, so you only need to feed the thing film), you have to kinda guess which photo you're about to print. I've been taking the somewhat roundabout route of dumping the files from my digital camera onto the hard drive, tweaking and cropping with Photoshop, and then copying select files onto a CF card, which then is inserted into the P-500IR to be printed.

Output quality is pretty good, considering that it's instant film. The image size is pretty small, but it does create some unique "hard" artefacts of digital images. I think this printer would have been a questionable investment at its original price; however, with the discount, I suspect the folks at Polaroid are going to get their money back (and then some) on the film! The five stars are given specifically for the discounted price. This printer is a "must have" gadget at that price!

Tweaking with the Mac
I am using this with a Mac G4 successfully....I guess I give it only three stars because the photo quality printing isn't great, it uses a lot of ink, and I had to call customer service 3 times to get info about troubleshooting. BUT... text printing is very nice, and the machine functions beautifully as a copy machine and adequately as a scanner. If you put the quality on draft it will print text much quicker, with no obvious quality sacrifice.

So... the advice you read about these machines is right on: if you have room, buy a scanner, printer and copy machine seperately. They will cost about the same. But, if you are willing to trade compactness for a little quality, I would recommend the G55.

...

Awesome! Beyond Expectations. Superb Value.
This machine far exceeded what I thought its very reasonable purchase price would deliver. (And as the co-author of "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Great Customer Service," I'm not easily impressed!)

The quality of printing is excellent--even on the draft setting for many jobs. The ink cartridges lasted far longer than I anticipated.

The well-designed, intelligent software that comes with this machine makes scanning and exporting to your favorite application a breeze and a joy. The scanning quality is excellent, and very fast, too.

Usually, the more I use a machine, the more flaws I find, the less satisfied I become with it, the more impatient I am to upgrade to the next gizmo iteration. With the OfficeJet G55, it's just the opposite. I keep muttering, "That's amazing!" "Cool." And other non-curmudgeonly phrases endangering a hard-won reputation.

I rarely rave about a computer peripheral, but the HP engineers behind this well-designed, value-priced marvel deserve a hearty round of applause for a job very well done.

I recommend it without one shred of reservation (and, believe me, that's high praise from a finnicky fellow whose friends call him, The Grumpy Gadget Guy).

great
i used it with my g4 osX. now i use it as a stand alone unit. the pictures were so nice i went out and got a 6 color printer just to see if thew were better. they are, but not that much. It is fast and quite. I am sorry they quite making it. the only think it needs is fax. HP, if you read this ( you won't ) bring it back.

What a hunk of crap
Sucked. Clunky piece of junk. Though it only cost me potatos to buy... but it cost me a forture to operate. If you own one do yourself a favor and through it out with the empty ink and buy something economical. $35 for black and it prints... no it bleed ink onto the paper at a rate of 500 pages per tank... AHHHHHH! That's scary. 7 cents a page. Canon please bend me over and take my money.

pretty cool and not expensive
The picture quality is very good for such a budget printer. I purchased mine primarily for text printing and am using the BC-20 black print head which has a very large tank (good for aprox. 900 pages of text) compared to the much smaller tank of black ink (good for aprox. 225 pages of text) that is on the BC-21e color print head that is included with the printer. The BC-20 prints black text faster than the color head as it has 128 nozzles for black compared to 64 black nozzles on the BC-21e. The color head has replacable color and black tanks which are cheaper to replace than buying the entire print head. The print head is very easy to replace. It just drops into a slot and a lever is pulled forward to lock it into the holder.

Fine little printer for the price
Loading the software couldn't have been made any easier. User's manual user friendly too. The print quality in black is excellent and fast enough. Color is quite slow with good quality. Very quiet too. A good way to begin color printing.

HP 970Cse prints SLOW
We have an HP 970Cse for the last few years and have tried everything under the sun to get it to printer more clearly and faster, and nothing has worked, including this cartridge. We replaced the 970Cse with an Epson Stylus C84 and are 100% happier.

This IS NOT a bargain price
The cartridge is just fine, I use it for printing cards and like the quality of my prints, but Amazon is acting like they are giving us such a bargain. I'm disappointed by this. You can buy this same cartridge at regular price directly from the folks who make the printer for a whole whopping 70 cents more than this supposedly 20% mark down sale price. That is not a sale, it's highway robbery. Now the price for the regular sized cartridge IS a sale, it's cheaper than you can get it directly from the people who make the printer for this cartridge or any other place I've seen so far.

GOOD Ink -- and probably a better value !
This is the ink I use in my HP Photosmart P1100 color printer. The results are super -- especially when used with HP paper. HP makes another cartridge that contains less ink and costs less: model# (SKU) C6578AN. The cartridges are the same physical size, but the amount of ink inside differs. Whatever you buy, be sure to store it UPRIGHT. That helps prevent bubbles or air pockets that can form inside which can cause imperfections on the printed page.

hard to find paper, paper jams all the time
Although the images are great, when you finally get it to work, the paper is always getting stuck. The paper was very difficult to find. Drivers are near impossible to find... Get the HP photosmart printer (the small one) and you will be thrilled, as I am

Best Photo Printer I've Worked With
I have the Kodak DX3500 digital camera and it's great to work with. I also have several printers, all HP. The problem with printing 4x6 pictures is that the paper doesn't always feed correctly. I have several friends who have HP inkjet printers and they all have the same problem. Can't tell you how much paper and how many cartridges I've gone through trying to get scanned photos or direct download from the Kodak to print on my wide bed HP. When I saw this I decided to give it a try, and I love it! It's very compact, very quiet and prints beautiful pictures that are photo processing quality. The greatest thing is that it is a thermal print so the pictures never fade as they do with regular inkjet. This printer uses a specialty ribbon and paper and yes the print packs are a little pricey ($15 - $20 each for 25 prints), but considering the quality of the pictures and what you save in premium photo paper it's well worth the price (and remember your memories will never fade). And if you balance the cost against the price of film and film processing, this is one of the best bargains you'll ever find!

Reed
The printer itself is great, if you have a digital camera, this printer justifies your decision to go digital. The pictures are great! The set up was okay, had to update the drivers and reinstall a few times to get the USB connection to work. I had a time finding support on line from sony because the web site is hard to navigate. I am having a time finding the paper and ribbon ... All in all, I enjoy having the printer, I can even make copies of other pictures with my scanner taken by a film camera. Do the reseach and find a few sources for the paper.

Couldn't ask for Better
This server is simple to setup and get running. I works well with both my Linux and Windows systems, and can be setup by either. The best part about this print server is that it allows me to place my printer where it is convient for me, instead of right next to the computer (Which is inconvient). (LPT cables have a limit on the cable length.) I can print files from either my laptop or desk top system regardless of operating system. I would recommend this server to anyone who needs cross platform printing capability. I wonder what I ever did without it. Keep up the good work Netgear !!.

Best print server available
I have tried numerous other print servers including HP JetDirect and the Linksys network print servers. My experience with NetGear has been the best.

Great Product! No Problems!
I purchased this product about 1 month ago and abused the heck out of it. Print from detailed photo's to charts and displays to photosmart 1218 and a hp color lazer print. I don't have any back logs or transfer problems. Great product and highly recommended!

Noisy, sub-average print quality
Maybe this printer was good in 1999 when we bought it, but our experience was very unsatisfactory. The photo print quality was poor; it is very noisy; and it often was printing garbled nonsense. The color photo printing often has obvious lines in it. I would not reommend this printer ...

Best in price point, but I still love my HP 832C much more
I had a Epson model 440 for about a year and a half, and when I bought it, it was about a $150 machine. Now where I definately would know that this printer is not worth nearly that in todays ever advanceing photo printing market I will tell you that its a fairly good value for its current price.

The Epson 440 always produced nice images for me. The color photo printouts I would make on photo stock paper were very nice. The features on this printer are nice too, the software is very easy to use and helps a great deal with many projects. I also like the feature that lets you know when the ink is about to run out, that is a big help.

Here is the bad news though, first of all the Epson 440 is pretty slow compaired to many of the HP printers I have used. Even the HP printers near the same price point are faster. My Epson 440 sometimes apeared to be tempermental too, not running some more complex print jobs. I do not think this was my main computer because I have been running an AMD athlon 800 MGHZ with 256 MB of ram on the motherboard, so I am sure the printer was limited. I run some of the same jobs without a hitch on my HP 832C which I find to be a fantastic printer. Last but not least is the Epson 440 is the loudest thing on mother earth, the thing rattles hums and shakes every time it squezes a print out which makes it difficult to get along with. On contrast most HP printers are very Quiet.

So here is my final scoop, if you are short on cash and need a decent printer to get you by, try the Epson 440, but if you have the money spend it on a higher model HP printer.

Epson Workhorse
I paid [purchased] this printer over 5 years ago. We have never had a problem with it. Prints nice pictures, but is more suited for school or work projects. We throw away HP's @ work every 6 months. I'll stick with Epson.

Works, but not easy to set up
I bought this printer because of its wireless potential. And it works great, once it is set up. I run OS X, and I always argue that things works so well on the Mac, and they typically do. This printer set up, however, seems to have been written for Windows users. There are several steps, installing this, plugging in that, restarting the computer. This is insane for OS X, which is why it appears to me to be a Windows port.

Apple uses the incredibly easy to use networking protocol Rendezvous, which in theory doesn't need any driver installed (or perhaps the driver is installed by Apple in the OS, and this one is not, yet.) At least that's my limited knowledge and experience with Rendezvous using an HP 4600 Color Laser at my work location. Just plug the ethernet cable into the printer and there it is in the Add Printer box. However, this printer required me not only to install a driver, but then follow a complicated set up procedure, plugging in a network cable, turning on/off the printer. When that didn't work, I had to restart the computer; finally, I reinstallled the software, and then it worked. This is rediculous. This is exactly the reason I do not use the Windows OS. Perhaps I do not know enough about wireless connectivity, and this may be the only way to set up a wireless printer to work with an 802 network. If true, then I appologize to Windows users and HP. If this is as easy as it gets, then there needs to be more thought put into the install process, because it sure wasn't easy at all.

Second, the printer is pretty loud. It runs like an Epson inkjet that this is replacing. When you go to print, there is an inordinate amount of clacking, and the paper feed is part of the problem.

Fortunately, the printer does work wirelessly, which is the only reason I will keep this. And I like the paper feed in front of the printer, as opposed to on top like Epson made in the past.

Perhaps after working with this printer for a few weeks I will up my rating, but for now, this gets 3 stars.

Makes print servers obsolete
I bought this printer for my home network of 3 computers. Two are old desktops, running windows 98 and one is a wifi laptop running xp. The wifi laptop connected wirelessly with the printer with no problem, but I had trouble getting the printer software to run on the old desktops. When I tried to load the software on the desktops, I got this major error message saying I had to reset the printer to factory settings (whatever that means?!). The solution was that I had to hard wire the printer to the wireless router. That's not a problem, though since I don't need to move the printer around anyway. The beauty of this setup now is that all 3 computers can print off the same printer independently of each other, just as if you had a print server. And the laptop can be moved to anywhere in the house and still be print ready. I would highly recommend this product if you seek this kind of functionality. The only downside is the software is a little quirky, especially on old computers

Great network printer with WiFi
I was looking for a new printer to replace the Epson that died on me after a short period of usage and decided to go back to HP. When browsing their mid-range printers I saw this wireless model. Having set up my wireless network this year and having my father on the same network and the chance of friends stopping by who might want to use the printer I thought that it would be perfect. This printer works as a plain USB printer (cable not included), or as a network printer. Using it as a network printer you have 2 choices. The first is to use the included ethernet cable and hook the printer up to your local network. The second is to turn the thing on and have it automatically detect your wireless network and jump on the network. I set it up with my powerbook and I have to say it was the easiest setup EVER. This printer is rendezvous enabled which is great for Mac OSX users. You just select the printer from the list when you go to print and you are DONE. There is nothing else to do, everything is ready to start printing! You can also set up the included software on the CD which installs HPs own custom drivers and autodetects the printer on the network for you. This probably works the same way on windows. Another cool thing is that the printer has web configuration. You can either figure out the IP and put it in the browser (and change it there too if you like) or on your Rendezvous enabled mac you can select it from the Rendezvous menu in safari where it shows up.

As for the the hardware side, this is an above average quality ink jet printer. The DPI (dots per inch, how much detail goes into what you print) on it is pretty good compared to some other printers in the same range, and the printing speed is also pretty good.

The paper feed is much better than top feed printers I have in the past which had trouble getting the paper aligned. You can also get an extra tray if you want to hold more paper. I think this would be a nice printer for a small office, or home network where you have several people with computers and/or notebooks.

So overall this is an low end network printer with wifi or a high end deskjet with wifi. Either way, I think this printer is a really great product
