I use XP Pro and it does not recognize the X63 each time I reboot. Most of the time I have to reinstall to print. Great printer but compatibility problem with XP.

Not much more than a paper holder
I got this for free when it came with something else i purchased. It really hasn't proved to be of much use. The storage drawers really can't hold much more than paper and other very small items such as cd's or floppy disks. There are many other much better storage solutions out there, I wouldn't really recommend this.

NEC 100C Superscript Color Inkjet Cartridges
Although it is incredibly easy to install
- - as are most inkjet cartridges - -
even brand new NEC 100C Superscript cartridges
have a tendency to "dry out" and become useless
after a very short time, unless they are used frequently.

It seems that once "started",
the ink either evaporates or solidifies
at the cartridge's output/printhead/nozzle
(or whatever you call it!)

I use my color printer only once a month or so,
and only a few pages (with relatively little ink used),
so it is a VERY expensive proposition to buy cartridges
at that same frequency!

After the first such "dry out" problem,
I tried storing subsequent cartridges in the little receptacle
that came with the printer, but it didn't help.
I even tried wrapping it in wax paper and plastic wrap,
but all those did was create a messy blob of ink on the wrapping!

I also tried cleaning the cartridge's print heads
with isopropyl alcohol and/or water,
but that wasn't any help, either
(n.b., cleaning the heads in such a manner is not recommended
by the mfr, but since the cartridge was pretty much useless
at that point, I felt that I had to try SOMETHING!).

And, since no chain store carries NEC Superscript 100C
cartridges, I am forced to buy them online or via mail order,
which means having to spend extra money on shipping and handling,
and having to wait for the product to be shipped,
assuming it's not on backorder!

I'd also like to know why someone hasn't come up with a way
to put the "smarts" (i.e., the electronic strip)
of most manufacturer's cartridges
onto the printer rather than the cartridge.
That would, at least, reduce the cost significantly.

The drying-out problem needs to be fixed!
(NEC isn't alone with this problem)

So, if you use your NEC Superscript 100C color printer often,
you probably won't have the problem described, above
(but, then again, even if you don't have any problems,
you'll probably go through the cartridge very quickly,
so you'll wind-up spending as much as *I* did!)

not bad... for the price
I wasn't sure how the Nectron would work in my Stylus 1200, but I gave it a try for the low price. after being happy it fit in the slot, I worked with it for a few weeks. It works ok. The print quality is fair, slightly lighter than the original Epson. I felt like cleaning the head more often because of occational streaks though... overall not bad for[the price]0

Great copier, so-so printer
If you can handle the toner costs, this units works well as a copier and it's very impressive at copying photographs. Sharp puts the same workings into a slightly different case and sells it to Xerox where it is retagged as a workcentre. We've had this Xerox unit at work and it has been great as a copier but we had to remove it from printer duty because it was always locking up and printing solid black pages whenever we asked it to print documents over about 3 pages long. I bought the Sharp for my home hoping the problem was fixed. Long story made short: It wasn't. I took it back and got a Brother that produces quality that is about the same but it prints faster and doesn't lock up.

Excellent Print Quality, But Way Pricey
Hopefully, the price will come WAY down on this paper, real soon. 50 cents per sheet for 3.5x5 is just off the charts in my opinion. But, I have to admit that this is excellent paper for its intended usage. The coating appears to work very well to protect the print surface and it's nice to get the print cartridge along with the paper. If the prices comes down by 30%, I'll be much happier.

Slow/Noisey Printer
This printer messes up all the time. I do not recommend it.

Great photos but uses alot of ink
The picture quality of the Epson 820 is pretty good even using the 720 DPI quality. I set my default to print at 720 DPI to save ink. I found the 2880 DPI quality is useless since at that DPI, my Epson Photo Paper curled due to over saturation of ink. 1440 DPI produced the best quality on standard Photo Paper, but the difference vs 720 DPI is marginal. I think if you purchase Epson's super expensive ColorLife paper, then 2880 DPI would work. The PIM (print image matching) is just marketing. PIM doesn't print the pictures any better. I found that PIM actually made my pictures (taken from my Sony Cybershot P-50) more dull. The Epson 820 drinks ink. I don't know why Epson (other than to make more $$$) makes their color ink cartridge so thin and thus carrying less ink.

The Film Factory software that comes with the printer is exactly what I've been looking for in regards to printing common photo sizes such as 3x5, 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, or wallets. I can fit 4 3x5 or 2 4x6 into one sheet of photo paper which minimizes the cost of each photo sheet when calculated by per picture.

Overall, I rate this a 3.5 rounded up to 4.0 for Amazon's scale. Picture quality is very good...rivals a real photo. In fact a friend of mine thought the Epson print was the real photo when comparing the same exact picture processed by Ofoto.com (an online Kodak processing company). Again, the Film Factory software is very good for printing common photo sizes. However, because of the rapid ink usage, I didn't rate this a 5.0, which is the main draw back of this printer. ...

Great printer for the price!
Sure it clogs a lot, but all you have to do to unclog it is click a button. I've had no problems.

Excellent Piece Of JUNK!!
I was a satisfied HP customer since the old times of deskjet 550. I bought this unit a little over a year, used it sparingly, until the well famous "small cog" broke. I remember this happened while the 2nd black cartridge was half full ( HP, are you intentionally making this junk fail so I spend another $100 in another one of your printers in less than a year??). I called HP parts service and of course, NO FAIR SOLUTION - THE COG IS NOT SOLD. Their only "offer" was to send the printer back to HP, PLUS $59, and they would ship a "refurbished" one. So, are they keeping the cogs to make a final price of $159 for the printer? Since I REFUSE to buy a new printer, I wanted to make this junk at least pay off the ink cartridges until they empty themselves, so I found the website http://www.fixmybrokenprinter.co.uk/ where Mr. G will fix the broken cog for a very fair price. I'll make this machine sweat its price until it dies, and believe me, no more cheap HP printers after this one!! I'm done with HP!!

Piece of CRAP
I think the HP 3820 is the worst printer I have ever owned. It is noisy, slow, and I have had endless driver problems. Don't buy one, you can do a LOT better!

Piece of Crap.
Lasted for two black printer cartriges. Now it is a paper weight. Back door fell off long ago because the tabs broke, after the warranty expired of course, so I rebuilt the tabs myself using super glue and it worked fine again until it just decided it wouldn't accept new printer cartriges anymore. DO NOT BUY. This is a shoddily made product. Welcome to the new era at HPQ.
